Warhammer 40k: A New Breed

@Ollumhammersong@Andreyich@Oak7ree@Katthaj@NecroKnight@LeeRoy

When he learned of the Deathwatch, Roboute Guilliman immediately recognised their importance. He also saw how thinly stretched the resources of the Deathwatch were. In some places, the Great Rift had cut watch fortresses off from any support. In others, furious warp storms drove desperate xenos migrations before them, leaving the Deathwatch embattled against waves of displaced enemies that had nothing left to lose.

Foreseeing that Humanity’s shield would soon be sundered without aid, Guilliman issued the Ultimaris Decree.

This order bound every newly founded Primaris Space Marine Chapter to the tithe of the Deathwatch in perpetuity. It also seconded several Chapters’ worth of the newly awakened Primaris battle-brothers and deployed them – along with all their supporting materiel – directly to the watch fortresses scattered across the Imperium. So desperate was the hour that nearly every Watch Master accepted these untested new recruits without question. Soon enough the Primaris Marines’ might was proven, and put to good use.

Greetings and welcome!

I'm going to make this as short and sweet as I can, so here goes.

We are taking the role of a few Unnumbered Sons - Primaris marines who fought with Guilliman in mixed-Chapter squads, before they were broken up and assigned to new permanent Chapters - that have been assigned to the Deathwatch and the vigil therein. I'm happy for your Astartes to be as experienced as it is possible for a Primaris to be thus far in the lore, or for them to be fresh out the wrapping from Mars, as well as anywhere in between. Any loyalist Legion is also fine as a progenitor, you can even have them assigned to a successor Chapter and then assigned to the DW if you so wish.

We shall also be taking the structure of what is called a Fortis Kill Team, essentially meaning that - should you wish to - you can take a different role from that of an Intercessor, although I'd prefer a majority of them; so could be three Intercessors and then two Aggressors and then a Reiver etc...you get the picture.

Two last things.

I'll not be asking for Character Sheets, so it'll be up to your writing to tell everyone everything they need to know.

Lastly, if you wish to hold a special position - Techmarine, Apothecary and so on - then please ask me first.

Apart from that, you've just arrived at Watch Station Nemesianus (or been there for a few hours), probably by a small craft, the entire structure being a small space-borne outpost in the Segmentum Solar orbiting a dead planet. Converse, check weapons, think of your characters past etc.

After an initial round of posts we'll get this show on the road.

P.S.

If anyone wants colour-specific text or anything, just tell me (and everyone else) in the thread.

The Emperor protects.

Hmm. Can I have been assigned to the Salamanders, then turned over to DW, after having learned their ways?

I have a question. Are Primaris Marines completely and newly created from regular humans long ago?

Or had they been once regular Astartes. Taken to Mars and now released?

@NecroKnight

Both actually. The one's from Cawls vaults (he has vaults all over the galaxy not just Mars) have been collected over the millenia. But it is possible for regular marines to be turned into primaris marines, i.e Marneus Calgar

Because Guilliman has been in stasis he hasn't been able to countermand his original order to Cawl, So Cawl has just been building more and more vaults and shoving more and more primaris inside them for the last ten thousand years. Some are from the days following the Horus heresy and others are from various other points in time.

As an addendum, those 'Rubicon Primaris' (minimarines turned into Primaris), go through a process even worse than their original transformation - and even more likely to kill them. Marneus Calgar appears to be the first successful case, or at least the most well known.

@Andreyich

Sounds perfect, and yes you may post.

Custom successor chapters allowed?

I've been building up the background on this one for years, and its reaching maturity.

My custom chapter is the Astral Sables. A successor of an unknown chapter, they are Scions of Mars and were favoured greatly initially. The predominant chapter demeanour is that of fixing, improvising and patching up things. They are incredibly good at fixing things (Trade: Technomat), even if they have never encountered them before and are given minimal time. They can jury-rig almost any equipment and sometimes skirting the boarders of heresy, however they always seem to stay on the right side of things, it seems odd then, that the Priests of Mars would invest in such a chapter. The true reasons for this ability will become clear in time though it is quite different from the artisanry of the Salamanders or the Architecture of the Iron Warriors. It seems to be the ability to make the best of a bad situation.

One of the chapter flaws of the Astral Sables that comes to the fore is that they are quite aware they are more than human. They see a divide between themselves and the rest of humanity. Quizzically though, their nomadic fleet makes wide use of human auxiliaries, more so than other chapters. Their chapter serfs resemble something more like imperial guardsman and are given the duty of carrying ammunition and logistical support supply chains, something which is beneath any of the Emperors Sons. Though failed marine aspirants are not permitted to live. Failing the process of becoming a marine is seen as a bad omen. The chapter typically suffers from a high rate of geneseed impurity, as many as 30% of the marines have inactive organs, though not always the same ones. The reasons for these flaws are under constant investigation by the chapters Genetors and Gene-Crafter cadres, though as soon as a fix is found for one flaw, pushed back into place, it seems as though another comes loose somewhere else. Thus they are constantly chasing the flaws around their system. The chapters leadership is growing more and more cold towards the Mechanicum of Mars and indifferent to their calls for help over time.

The Primaris in question has yet to know any of this, in fact Aiden Hansel knows very little of the fate of the chapter who birthed him as they are trapped on the other side of the Cicatrix Maledictum, their fate remains unknown. When given the option he naturally gravitated towards the role of being a Kill marine and going on a vast sometimes directionless journey vanquishing terrors throughout the galaxy. He first journeyed away from his squad on the Imperial Navy wolfpack under Commodore Henrick Cromwell. The quarters were cramped for the little men, but he nevertheless found an aptitude for confined engagements, becoming adept at the definitive close quarters room to room clearing which his chapter is best known for. He also was trained extensively in observation by the Imperial Navy specialists. Gaining along the way personal tutoring by Henrick in the art of calling in artillery barrages with devastating accuracy. Aiden became well versed in all of the munitions of the naval weapons which he could call down upon the enemy, from the smallest shell to the largest Marcrocannon. He also learnt many languages, local vernaculars and sub cultures as the ships stopped off, seemingly able to preternaturally absorb them all like a sponge.

His chapter makes wide use of combi-weapons almost redefining the term as each marine instantly begins working on a combi-modification of his standard bolter as soon as able. Even making use of specialised and more rarer combi-weapons, such as the bolter-heavy stubber or bolter-lascutter. However their most favoured being the astarties grenade launcher. Aidens standard equipment is that of an Intercessor with auto-boltrifle. However small changes are visible all over the armour, including a few loose wires protruding from beneath panels.

(Hope thats an interesting taster.)

JB has the setting as just after the breaking up of the unnumbered sons, So even if your marine was a part of a formal chapter they wouldn't have been in long enough to absorb any of its culture. Probably would have just found the experience odd if anything.

The greyshields largely identified themselves by their primarch lineage as they didn't have chapters to call home. So your character would also know precisely who they are descended from as that is likely the basis for their identity at least when part of the greyshields.

@Banzai Tracers Short answer is that homebrew is not allowed, no.

@Ollumhammersong@Andreyich

I'll allow either bolter.

We're just former Sons, and I should probably make this more clear, but have likely been with any assigned Chapters for littke time before DW duty...that being said, some may have gone directly to the DW immediately after the Sons were split.

In short, as Ollum rightly said, any experience in another Chapter would be odd and likely feel as such.

That is partially the point of this RP, otherwise I could have just made a standard DW team.

@NecroKnight, probably best to take note of that.

PS

In short, we're not 'just' after the split from the Sons, but there won't have been masses of time for each Astartes to become acclimated.
