Here's my character who's trying too hard to be cool but at the same time is actually competent at his job.
Henry Thompson
Race: Human Gender: Male Age: 27 Psychological Profile Thompson seems to enjoy putting on the facade of a hardened man of few words. He dislikes small talk and is mostly focused on his work. In most conversations he is curt and to the point, often rudely so, and will attempt to steer conversations away from his personal life should the conversation seem to be heading that way. Occasionally, cracks in his facade appear when dispatching enemies, where he will occasionally let loose a joke or one liner. Most of his colleagues have referred to him as having a quote "stick up his ass". This is, as previously stated, simply a facade. Thompson was questioned by his superiors about his behavior, where he revealed his true nature.
The Thompson beneath the facade is in fact just an average man trapped in a bit of a fantasy. He wishes to be like the heroes of the action movies he grew up on: tough, fearless, and no nonsense. In fact, when not taking on this persona, Thompson is rather awkward and stumbles upon his words, indicating the stoic part of his facade may be a "cool" way of covering up that part of himself. Officials have allowed him to continue maintaining this facade, but have asked him to tune it down and at least attempt to get to know his colleagues better. Thompson has been improving in that regard.
Background Thompson was born in New York City to a lower middle class family in Queens. As a child he grew up watching his father's assortment of movies, predominantly action films from the 80s and 90s. This caused a spark in the young Thompson, who wished to become an action hero as well and save lives. He originally planned on joining the military, but at 18 was only able to make it to the army reserves. There, he learned the majority of his training, but Thompson, hoping to go into combat, was disappointed when he served three years without seeing combat.
Rather than reenlist, Thompson returned to New York and became a SWAT officer, where he would occasionally see combat. His former peers noted how odd he was in his mannerisms, but did not act on it because of his efficiency. Thompson was dissatisfied with his work as a police officer, finding it "boring", and sought out any potentially new careers where he could do the same things on a more dangerous scale.
That was how he found the OIA, and without hesitation he resigned from the department and moved to New Carcosa to join them. He has worked at the Agency for a year as an Occult Tactics Operative. He has few friends in the Agency, most finding the persona he takes on creepy or annoying, and has (as said) been spoken to about it a week prior to this latest revision of his file. Thompson has been doing his best to improve and socialize with his colleagues.
Assigned Division: Occult Tactics Operative (Officer) Specialization Firearms Special Operations Crowd Control
Training Advanced Firearms Training Standard Close Combat Training Standard Athletic Training Basic Medical Training
Relevant Experience Three years in army reserves, five as a police and SWAT officer
Notes Thompson wears his tactical gear at all times when in the precinct, rarely taking it off. Colleagues express concern over his hygiene because of this. Without his helmet on, one would see that Thompson is an average looking Caucasian man with pale skin, brown eyes, and blonde hair in a crew cut. Thompson has taken to calling himself "Reaper" and attempts to get his colleagues to call him by this nickname. Most ignore him and simply call him by his actual name.
Admin note: Character language isn't actually Icelandic, but due to its germanic origin, is used as a standin for the character's actual tongue, since I don't know proto-germanic well enough to do it justice.
The Keyholder("Serene")
"Subject shows aggressive behavior, possibly linked to time spent in suspended animation. Caution is heavily advised when engaging with Subject."
Race: European Dragon, Unknown Type, possible Hybrid Gender: Female Age: At least 3,500 years old Psychological Profile(Personality) Incredibly aggressive due to language barrier, subject, dubbed "Serene" as an inside joke by other agents, is usually calm when given certain materials, such as TV shows, picture books, or movies. Capable of understanding basic gestures and picture responses, patient should not be spoken to aggressively, and appears best tempered when referred to in a respectful manner. They appear to be very interested in modern science, and when sedate, follow researchers around, in almost "child-like" wonder. However, subject is incredibly intelligent, possibly on par with modern geniuses, and is not be allowed out of sight, due to past prior escape attempts. While uncleared for field activities due to nature, they have been allowed to study crime scene photos, and has shown some degree of helpfulness in regards to magitech and certain organizations.
Background(Character Bio) 1910, Iceland A team of reseachers discover a set of ruins inside of the dormant volcanoes, dating back roughly 3,000 years, based on carbon dating. Icongraphy inside shows information on an unknown civilianization, that appeared to be originally native to Europe, but fled to the island. Further research is halted by the First World War. However, files are later recovered by German Occultists, pointing towards a being of immense magical power residing in the Amazon. The language, pictographical in nature, remains untranslated until the 2000s, following Operation: Feathered Serpent
1950, the Amazon Rainforest Five years after the fall of Nazi Germany, a group of survivors who escaped to Brazil are captured by the government after the survivors are found badly wounded. Military report indicates that they entered the jungle in search of occult power to try and build a Fourth Reich and possibly resurrect Adolf Hitler. However, something drove them mad, and resulted in the death of both several top Nazi officials and their guides. Local tribes refer to a site deep within the Amazon as the "cursed temple," and when asked to depict why, an entity similar to the Feathered Serpent is found. Files are redacted and remain buried until an information breach by a whistlerblower alerts the OIC to a situation in the 90s
1996, the Amazon Rainforest, Operation: Feathered Serpent Following the discovery of files from before the First World War and the Brazil incident, an OIC team is dispatched to the Amazon Rainforest in search of the "Cursed Temple," which is believed to be some sort of Eldritch summoning system. Local screened civilians are used as guides. OIC task force known as "Serpent's Fangs" arrive at the location, and find human remains, both of the Nazi party from 1950, and far older remains which are later carbon dated to range from around 1300 B.C.E. to as late as 1900 C.E. Site is a temple carved from limestone, and appears to be sealed. Examination reveals canisters akin to chemical weapons hidden. Team equips gas masks and suits, and proceed to attempt to undo the seal. Sigils carved into the door are later discovered to be of a Proto-Germanic origin, mixed with an unknown tongue similar to that found in Iceland. Later translation indicates that they are "curses" meant to keep whatever is inside dormant and to keep people out. Door refuses to budge, explosives are used, resulting in a successful breach. Team enters "Cursed Temple," while locals refuse to enter. An antechamber is found inside, containing what appears to strangely resemble a sort of "stone computer," a carved map on the wall shows several other chambers, as well as a shaft leading down at a safe angle. Rooms on main level are cleared, and appear to contain the bodies of a previously unknown cult, as well as European remains that appear to have been torn apart. Markings match talons found on an ancient skeleton in Poland believed to be a type of dragon. Carvings located throughout appear to depict an ancient civilianization that may have ruled over parts of the world, but this cannot be confirmed. The Team advances to the shaft leading further, and one agent triggers a pressure plate by mistake, triggering a spike trap, but which fails due to advanced age. Team descends through shaft, and discover a vault like door, made of stainless steel, suggesting that the temple may have been built atop some sort of previously unknown super advanced civilization, possibly the one previously depicted.
Door is forced open, and team enters, discovering a large vault, containing machinery similar to modern times, but clearly abandoned. Team leader reports a faint layer of dust and an odor akin to a decaying body. In the middle of the room, on a raised panel, behind some sort of "barrier," is a stone chest, akin to that of a Egyptian mummy case. Inside is a sealed metallic container, roughly shaped like that of a humanoid, but what lies inside is unknown. The Team is ordered to remove the casket like object, which is found to weigh less than expected. Post mission examination reveals that the coffin like device is made from an unknown metallic alloy which while lightweight, is incredibly durable. Removal of object triggers defenses, toxic gases(later revealed to be cyanide) flood the chamber, team is unable to leave via entrance, vault doors have sealed shut. Tremors are felt, suggestive of explosive charges being detonated, and an unknown chemical begins to flood in from hidden hatches located ten meters below ground level. A hidden escape route is found in the back of the chamber, and team escapes with cargo, exiting into a metal chamber that slopes slightly down. Shortly after entering, another trap is triggered, a large iron sphere lined with razor sharp spikes is released, chasing the team down the corridor. Sawblades are observed to emerge ahead of the team, killing one Agent, a John Denver, and cutting off the nose of Agent Smith Evans. Team Leader and survivors manage to escape the corridor, which is lined with still more traps, including a floor spike trap and flamethrowers, and find themselves inside of what seems to be a mine shaft leading to the surface. Below them is believed to be a passage that leads to unknown treasures, perhaps even a source of the city of gold myth. Team ascends with package, and is able to safely escape the rising levels of gas. Team is located roughly 200 meters beyond tomb entrance, return to extraction point, and are flown back to a forward base. "Coffin" is transported to the States, and placed into storage at headquarters. Recovery teams are deployed to the site, and recover much of the technology and material remains. Combined with the inscriptions from the Icelandic Ruins, research into the language begins.
1997, OIC Headquarters During routine examination of all files, coffin from Cursed Temple is brought out for tests to be run. Upon exposure to x-rays, researchers are astounded to discover that there is a life form within. Efforts are made to open capsule, but result in death of two researchers due to [REDACTED]. Object is put into high security storage and research into lost civilization is placed on the backburner while research into other projects go ahead.
2015, OIC Headquarters; High Security Storage. Members of a cult believed to be descended from the one discovered at the Cursed Temple attempt to raid OIC HQ, and breach HSS, only to be dispatched by object, which apparently opened upon a word spoken by the cultist leader, who had [REDACTED] occur. Security footage is modified to avoid problems. Security teams secure storage facility, and find the capsule open, the entity detected within now free, huddled within a corner of storage space. Covered in blood, subject wears a skintight outfit made of an unknown bio-organic material, akin to a "environmental" or "pilot" suit. Entity does not respond to attempts to communicate, and turns aggressive when attempted to be removed for study. Two agents are killed, and four more are put into critical care. Tranquilizer gas canisters are forced to be used when attempts to dart reveal subject has skin resistant to such. Once target is subdued, they are collared and moved to research, where a full body scan reveals them to be of "reptilian" origin, bearing scales under the skin, and growths that may be a form of wings, which are now ragged stumps on subject's back, emerging from the suit. Suit resists attempts to remove, and patient is moved to a high security cell until further tests can be run. Multiple escape attempts occur over a period of the next year, and further testing confirms that subject is of "dragonic" origin, after an attempt to capture resulted in the subject breathing fire and producing electrical shocks from hands.
By this time, attempts at translating subject's "tongue" have begun to bear fruit. Files indicate that a formerly hyper advanced reptilian civilization, based in various parts of the globe, existed prior to earliest known historical records. Subject is the currently only known survivor, and appeared to hold onto a relic that was meant to protect Earth. Information indicates that a precursor to the OIC destroyed the civilization around 5000 years ago, and that the presumed parents of "Serene" dubbed so by agents as a joke, were killed around 1,500 B.C.E., and "Serene" fled to the Americas, where they were worshipped as a goddess by the locals, which later became the Feathered Serpent of Olmec, Mayan, and Aztec myth. Around 1,300 B.C.E., ancestors of the cult that attacked Headquarters were able to separate the subject from their relic and using stolen technology, imprisoned entity inside of the Temple, and carved the sigils in a mistaken effort at keeping "Serene" imprisoned, and intruders out. Cult is believed to be behind the ruins in Iceland, perhaps leaving them as a warning to trick others into thinking that the subject was a demonic entity, and thus a threat to the world.
Present Day Subject has seemed to grow less physically aggressive with time. While prone to outbursts and occasional "tantrums" when not given "proper" treatment, there has been no deaths. Two further raids by the cult were made, and subject was allowed to perform [REDACTED], which has proven effective. Subject remains in high profile security cell, but is allowed one hour of movement around the eating area. A diet high in red meats are required to sustain subject's metabolism, and subject, after watching an "anime" has requested that an outfit be made of a character from the show. Research is ongoing to determine if the show was somehow influenced by subject, due to the anime character's 1:1 resemblance. Subject has shown complete control over biomechanical suit, removing it to clean itself, and has begun using cotton clothing to sleep in, and based on rudimentary communication, the subject finds cotton to be comfortable. Due to repeated use of a word when presented with pictures of various meat animals, it is presumed that said word is subject's version of "food" or of "meat." Translation efforts have advanced enough that language is confirmed to be similiar to proto-german tongues, and an intreperator has been assigned to help, a one Doctor Wolfenstein, who is proficient in ancient European languages. Subject is now allowed to act as an "intern," due to their knowledge of ancient times, and may prove essential in understanding ongoing efforts to combat magical and extra-planar threats.
Assigned Division: R&D(Research Subject/"Intern" Specialization Pre-Historic Culture Knowledge Ancient Elemental Magic Knowledge Magitech Understanding Hunting and Tracking
Training(if applicable) Modern Language Studies(Seems able to understand modern germanic based langauges) Modern Cooking Methods
Relevant Experience(if applicable) "Operation: Feathered Serpent, 1996" Hand of [REDACTED] Invasion Attempts of 2015 and [REDACTED]
Notes After [REDACTED], subject is not allowed to watch any Nightmare on Elm Street films, due to subject seeming to believe that Freddy Kruger is real. Research is ongoing into possibility that Dream Demons exist, and that some supernatural horrors may be more grounded in reality than previously believed. Subject is also forbidden to watch John Carpenter's The Thing, due to concerns that subject may mistake fictional events for real. However, subject is allowed to watch any horror films that do not deal with supernatural concepts, though all Friday XIII films are considered an exception, due to [REDACTED]. And for gods sake, whoever thought it was a good idea to let her watch Corpse Party is going to be demoted, subject repeatedly expressed fear. For the future, don't show her Japanese Horror, unless we're positive it contains no supernatural entities. Even animated horror is a risk.
However, all Dragonball Series are permitted. Yes, even the parts with demons. Subject appears to understand that the series is "fake" and thus will not attempt to identify supernatural elements. However, don't let her watch Harry Potter.
On second thought, keep all supernatural live action programs away from her, no matter if horror or not. Unless cleared with superiors.
Race: Human - [Ability] Detachable: Nova was born with a peculiar ability to remove her limbs, which then become a somewhat hardened material when detached. There have been numerous incidents in the past, notably when she first discovered her ability, where her limbs have fallen off on their own as she doesn’t have a firm control of when they do. Nova also isn’t sure if her head is detachable as well, but isn’t too keen on finding out.
Gender: Female Age: 22
Psychological Profile(Personality) Nova expects people to be caught off-guard when she tells them about what she plans to do for a living. Usually optimistic, cheerful, and a bit of a daydreamer in day-to-day life, Nova isn’t exactly the poster child for violent crime investigation. She has yet to experience and become desensitised by the horrors that come with the job, so she luckily remains her bubbly self, for now. Consequently, her traits may lead many to view her as naive or immature, which isn’t helped by her age and inexperience. Nova doesn’t see herself to be particularly witty or confident either, but tries to appear that way as she’s rather self-conscious about being perceived as incompetent.
While on the job, Nova takes her work seriously and strives to overcome her shortcomings. Making mistakes, however, seems to be in her nature, and being scrutinized for them is becoming a dull routine. She believes her airheadedness is to blame, and often catches herself spacing out in the middle of completing tasks. Her mind has a tendency to wander, but Nova has seen an improvement with her habits and it happens less often now.
Background(Character Bio) There’s not much outstanding about Nova’s background; she was born into a basic, nuclear family with a set of parents and a younger brother, and spent most of her life in the education system. Her parents were human and performed very human jobs - the father, an accountant, and the mother, a high school maths teacher. Nova was very prepared to head down a similar path - perhaps she’d take up dentistry, or marketing, or something as equally mundane.
There’s a particular memory Nova can recall with crystal clear quality, which happened around the start of her third grade. She was in class, sitting at her desk as students do, when a medley of three soft thuds interrupted the teacher’s spelling lesson. It took a moment to process what was going on, from the shocked horror on the faces of those around her, to her limbs, with the exception of her left arm, that landed on the floor like a set of mannequin parts. The thick silence didn’t last long, cut by terrified screams from some of those around her. It seemed that the supernatural denizens of the class were not completely horrified, though shocked, while those who knew Nova to be a normal human were the most perturbed.
Nova picked up a leg with her remaining arm, dazed for a moment at the sight of the cross section of her thigh, before her instincts told her to try to reattach it. It was easier than expected, a feeling similar to the click that the lid for a tube of lip balm makes. She started wearing a full bodysuit under her regular clothes to school the next day.
In her high school years, Nova came to realize how dissatisfied she was with where her life was going. She felt somewhat special after gaining a ‘superpower’, though it was kind of useless in most practical scenarios she could think of. As Nova pondered on about her future, by chance, she walked past a crime scene on her way back home. Police tape barred her from getting close, as forensic specialists and detectives swarmed about. Despite this, she caught a glimpse of the mangled corpse, poorly covered by a white tarp, and reflexively retched at the sight. An officer caught her actions, and promptly ushered her away from the scene.
The event continued to eat at Nova’s mind through the years, even though the first thing she wanted to do upon returning home was to forget about it all. Slowly, she became interested in criminology - she watched crime dramas and researched case studies online as a hobby.
It took Nova awhile to finally make the jump to detective work. She continued on her original plan - going to college - for a couple of years, before finally committing to her passions and applying for police academy. It’s a wonder how she managed to graduate from it, having done little to no physical training prior, but she showed an aptitude for classwork and investigative field exercises. Upon graduation, Nova was placed with a conditional contract with the OIA as a trainee.
Training(if applicable) Standard Firearm Training Standard Athletic Training (not that she’s good at this after training) Partially completed bachelor’s degree in psychology, with a focus on criminology She took some French courses in college Basic first aid
Relevant Experience(if applicable) Fresh out of police academy, so mock investigations, if that counts (probably not).
Notes Despite the police training, at home, Nova is rather lazy and prefers to live the life of a hermit, often shutting herself in on the weekends to catch up with her favourite series, and consuming way too much cup ramen. She absolutely loathes mondays, but will drag her ass out of bed to make a living. Now that she’s a detective, she’s really hoping murderers will take the weekends off as well, to save her from being called to a crime scene during her break.
Nova, having been surrounded by peers her age her whole life through schooling, is rather uncomfortable interacting with those older than her. It doesn’t interfere too much with her daily activities, but in more social contexts, the awkwardness is killing her on the inside.
If you're still accepting. Was a fun writing exercise if not.
Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis
Race: Human Gender: Male Age: 1,901 (Appears Middle-Aged, if not older) Psychological Profile(Personality)
Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis is a sarcastic, pretentious older man with a love for the finer things of life and the sciences. It is rare to find him without a book within arm's reach. He isn't a focused worker, instead dividing his attention among various projects at once. This division of attention comes across in his conversations as well, as Lucius rarely makes eye contact and instead insists on doing something else while speaking to his co-workers. That being said, when he needs to put the effort in, he has a wickedly sharp silver tongue used only in dire circumstances.
Lucius believes he is the smartest person in the room, which is sometimes true. He is an expert in metaphysics, and was one of the most influential figures in the development of alchemy. In regards to his research and areas of study, Lucius focuses on the understanding of past events rather than with the future. He is a firm believer that everything that happens has a cause that can be understood, especially the supernatural.
Background(Character Bio) Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis was a man of privilege in the Roman Empire in the 2nd Century of the Common Era. He was a politician, rhetorician, poet, philosopher, physicist, and small time practitioner of the occult. He used some minor charms and hexes for some time, a common practice among those on the outskirts of the Roman Empire. Shortly after being accused of the use of magic by his step-son and a rival of his, Apuleius (as he was called then) was approached by what was later learned to be a demon. A deal was made: eternal in the pursuit of the sciences and knowledge would be granted to Apuleius in that he would never age further, if he would do whatever the demon asked of him when necessary. Apuleius agreed, but to this day regrets that choice.
For nearly a thousand years, Apuleius had the chance to learn and study under the greatest practitioners of magic at the time to unlock the secrets of the universe. He lived a life of pleasure, using his increasing magical aptitude to get anything he wanted when he wanted it. While he refuses to talk about it, a study of occult history hint that he was certainly involved in the deaths of powerful Roman individuals and inadvertently aided in the fall of the Roman Empire.
During the "Dark Ages," Apuleius was discontent with the state of the world. The world was changing, and not for the better. So he isolated himself and experimented. He began unlocking some secrets of necromancy, and learned how to slow his aging on his own rather than having to rely on a demon. He then dedicated his time to learning how to get himself out of his contract and banish the demon to Hell for eternity. In the meantime, Apuleius did his best to push magic and physics in the right direction during the Renaissance and the age of Enlightenment, always hiding in the shadows.
Apuleius was actually one of the first cases covered by the Occult Investigations Agency. His efforts to banish his demon led to unnecessary casualties, but he was ultimately successful. Following the chaos, he was given a choice: join the OIA, or spend time in prison. While not ideal, Apuleius chose the first option. He has taken on the name Lucius, and joined the Research and Development Division as a consultant at first. He now works full time, and spends almost all of his time in the lab (to the point he has actually placed a cot in one of the storage closets for longer shifts). He doesn't specialize in forensic sciences in any regards, but does provide his expertise to cases as needed.
Assigned Division: Research and Development Specialization Alchemy Minor Necromancy Physics (and Metaphysics) Charms and Hexes
Training(if applicable) No Practical Combat Experience Trained in the art of magical item and ritual identification
Relevant Experience(if applicable) Nearly two millennium's worth of research on supernatural and occult practices
Notes The character is based off of the historical figure, Apuleius, but with obvious changes. His background is kept somewhat vague to allow for weird allusions to historical events as needed in conversation. Apuleius is not immortal in the sense that he can't be killed: he actually tries to not go in the field due to a fear of getting killed. He is only unable to age naturally.
Race: Human Gender: Male Age: 53 Psychological Profile(Personality) Dr. Caldwell is a man who lives for his work, his devotion to the occult and esoteric straining the relationship between himself and what family he has left. For him the search for truth and understanding is never-ending, every discovery providing further questions into the nature of all things. This obsessive behavior often compels the good doctor to lock himself away for hours or days on end within his office, attempting to decipher the messages hidden between the lines of ancient texts. His work with the OIA has only exasperated this behavior, as now it is not only his personal development, but the lives of innocents which lie within the secrets of these tomes and artifacts. As such, Dr. Caldwell views his work with a degree of seriousness bordering on the sacred. He has no time for fools, incompetents, or folks who expect him to do all the thinking for them.
This often leads him to become frustrated with coworkers, as the divide between himself and those outside his chosen field and department becomes ever greater with each tome he processes. What's more, he has become rather protective of the various volumes and manuscripts which fill the archives of the OIA, acting as steward and administrator over each precious scrap of information. More than once he has chewed out some greenhorn or investigator for mishandling the materials which he has dedicated his life to. In one particularly heated incident, the poor officer found himself with a concussion, after the ripping of a bound book caused Dr. Caldwell to launch a paper-weight at his head.
Background(Character Bio) Born and bred in Arkham Massachusetts, Martin Caldwell's early life was largely uneventful. Good schooling, financially secure and loving household, several siblings and good friends. A typical American childhood with all manner of mundane trials and tribulations which in retrospect would not be worth mention. Martin's life would not really become anything of note till his enrollment in the famed Miskatonic University of his own Arkham. A boyhood love of history, mysteries, and religious studies would eventually grow into a prospective career for young Martin. While studying those subjects dearest to him, Martin met the man who would change his life forever: Dr. Wallace Shale, Professor of American History and an avid student of the Occult. Attending a lecture on the witch trials and folklore of the surrounding areas during the colonial era, Martin found a kindred spirit in his professor. To the young man's credit, he proved to be a quick witted and delightfully eager student for Dr. Shale to take under his wing.
So it went for over a decade, Martin being inducted into the mysteries of the occult by his newfound master while still studying those more mundane subjects of life. In time he received multiple degrees, using the knowledge he had gained to the benefit of his esoteric teachings by translating and documenting rare and powerful tomes of arcane and religious lore. When the time was right, Dr. Caldwell was introduced by his friend and mentor to the Hermetic Order of the Silver Twilight; an esoteric society dedicated to the understanding and subjugation of the occult for the betterment of its members and (to a lesser degree) mankind. It was here that he truly began to thrive, working tirelessly as agent and broker for the Silver Twilight. With the aid of his brothers and their many agents, he faced the horrors of the world, and thanks to the dedication of his mentor, walked back largely unscathed from these encounters. Contacting cryptids and spirits, brokering goods and knowledge, bribing and stealing from competitors, and a mile long list of other sordid business.
When their long hidden world of monsters and sorcerers was at last revealed to the modern public, many of the Silver Twilight saw both disaster and opportunity. Martin of course was of the latter demeanor, using his years of experience to become a more public authority on those subjects occult, while keeping his business with the Silver Twilight close to his chest. In time he would join a fledgling OIA, capitalizing on their need to understand the forces they now needed to fight and defend. Decades of experience and hands on field work made Dr. Caldwell invaluable to the agency's early days, providing all manner of artifacts, fonts of lore, contacts, and a rather large pool of resources courtesy of private individuals who have a vested interest in keeping the OIA as informed as they should be (and no more). Over the past decade, Dr. Caldwell has risen to the position of Senior Archivist, one which carries some degree of administrative power within Research and Development. In addition to curating their collection of esoteric knowledge, budgetting and interdepartmental affairs now cross his desk as well. There is little that goes on within the department that he does not know of, and that which falls between the cracks is never lost forever. Assigned Division: Research and Development (Senior Archivist)
Specialization Research and information gathering Translation Acquisitions Occult philosophy and theory
Training PhD of Religious Philosophy A Masters Degree of Library Science A Masters Degree of Linguistics Training in the practice of ritual magick
Relevant Experience Decades of work in the care, procurement, and sale of rare books. Long-standing member of the Hermetic Order of the Silver Twilight. Archivist of lore and artifacts for the OIA since its early days.
Notes Dr. Caldwell has taken great lengths to tattoo and ritually scar his bare flesh with all manner of protective and powerful symbols, a measure which he thought necessary for his work with the Silver Twilight.
Martin has his own personal grimoire, which has slowly but surely grown thicker after years of access to the OIA archives and become an invaluable tool for his development and defense against forces of the dark and shadowed places of the universe.
@webboysurfSorry mate but all the R&D positions are filled and we've gotta get the show on the road. If enough people express interest while we're full I'll reopen and reserve a spot for you if you're still interested.

Holly
Race: Unknown Gender: Female; no biological sex Age: Officially 20; real age unknown
Psychological Profile (Personality):
In contrast to her ghastly appearance, Holly is friendly and speaks like the average human. She greets others with a big smile, though whether or not that offsets the bottomless pits of her eyes is up to the individual. Don’t be mistaken by her outward behaviour; her inner workings are entirely different.
Her origins and a lack of strong relationships with any other being since her awakening has kept her mentality alien and detached from the rest of civilized society. She has an equally enthusiastic and apathetic perception of the world. She’s capable of having emotions and could understand abstract concepts like love and morality but not on a personal level which may make her seem psychopathic. However, she’s far from malicious. In fact, Holly is fascinated by the world and the people around her and spent a lot of her years in this reality interacting with others, studying their behaviour and learning about their lives out of pure curiosity and passion. These interactions were always short-lived and her poor ability to empathize has made it difficult to genuinely connect with anyone she spoke to.
Holly is also quite proud of her biological strengths [see Notes below] partly due to having developed some of them herself. Though to the uninitiated, these abilities can be seen as strange and horrific, a reaction that tends to amuse her. Condolences to the OIA agents that had to witness her engulf a corpse to give it an autopsy before spitting it back out.
Background (Character Bio)
Holly was once an incomprehensible entity - not unlike Lovecraft’s monsters - that existed in another reality. She has very little memory of her life in her original form due to barely having had a consciousness and had nothing on her mind other than to consume anything in her path. When she was thrown into the human world, the reality of her being clashed with the reality of her new environment, causing her to break down and reconstruct into a living creature.
She spent the next few years learning about the new world and slowly making changes to her body in order to adapt. Soon she grew curious about civilized society and gradually integrated herself into the city of New Carcosa. She taught herself how to read and write, spending much of her earlier years in libraries, often indulging in fiction, psychology, and the occult. Holly quickly realized she had a stronger affinity for learning through social interactions and having real-life experiences so she took to exploring the city more and more. She was most fond of talking to strangers and was particularly attracted to anyone who looked especially peculiar.
One specific string of conversations led Holly to a case the OIA were investigating. She became a valuable informant due to all the personal information she has on the individuals involved. Holly was deeply intrigued by OIA’s work and further helped with the investigation at opportune moments in order to unobtrusively demonstrate her unique abilities. While she lacked experience and formal education, the agency saw value in her and offered to train her and bring her in as a Violent Occult Crimes intern.

Notes: Biological Profile
Eating Habits Eats to sustain herself as a human does but unlike humans, what she is capable of eating is far more extensive as her digestive fluids can dissolve a wide variety of materials. This can range from poisonous animals to chunks of metal and it won’t negatively affect her unless there are supernatural properties to it. This is not to be confused with her analyze ability because the process itself occurs in a different part of her body.
Greatest Strength Durability. She can withstand a lot of force and tear and when she’s damaged, her body can heal itself at a rate that is visible to the human eye. Torn off appendages and pieces of flesh can be grown back as well but it will require a lot of energy (i.e. eating and sleeping). She’s also capable of neutralizing poisons.
Greatest Weakness Heat. Her body becomes more sluggish and her senses dull past 40°C/104°F and her flesh will slowly melt and turn into a liquid at 50°C/122°F.
Physical Ability Is not much stronger than a man of average build and is incapable of naturally increasing her strength as a human would through building muscle. The greatest asset she possesses in this category is grip and jaw strength.
Analysis Ability Can analyze tangible material by engulfing it into her body. This can be used to identify the biological makeup of organisms - the smaller she has the go the longer it will take (i.e. cellular processes would take much longer to analyze than the organ system of an organism). [Warning: Live specimens die after analysis.]
Special Liquids Possesses a unique set of glands that synthesizes chemicals that convert the fluid in her body into different special liquids. These were mainly developed for survival. If needed, she can cultivate more: - A toxic, and corrosive liquid similar to sulfuric acid. - A liquid that solidifies into a sturdy, translucent mould around an object; it forms a chilled environment protected from the elements for preservation purposes. - A colourless liquid that can mimic the smell of anything she consumes of which is emitted through the pores of her skin. She keeps a batch of jasmine scented liquid internally stored.
Metamorphisis Can make small changes cannot but requires a lot of energy. She can't return to her original form or change to a new form at will. This won’t be a problem as she prefers staying in her current form.
