Just wanted to let you know that applications are being accepted again. Right now we're mainly looking for Violent Crimes or OTO Characters.
@webboysurf Your character is with R&D and if that's still what you want then I'll accept it as you've had a reservation made.
If you're looking for Violent Crimes and OTO characters, I could try to rework Lucius to fit into either units (or at least help fill in one of those slots by working with either of those teams, as needed). Just let me know what you need for certain.
Also, I tried the discord link, but it wasn't working for me. Could probably use another invite if that is the best way to coordinate things out. In the meantime, I'll read through and catch up on the IC.
Reworked for use in the OTO. Let me know if any other adjustments need to be made.
Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis
Race: Human Gender: Male Age: 1,901 (Appears Middle-Aged, if not older) Psychological Profile(Personality)
Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis is a sarcastic, pretentious older man with a love for the finer things of life and the sciences. It is rare to find him without a book within arm's reach. He isn't a focused worker, instead dividing his attention among various projects at once. This division of attention comes across in his conversations as well, as Lucius rarely makes eye contact and instead insists on doing something else while speaking to his co-workers. That being said, when he needs to put the effort in, he has a wickedly sharp silver tongue used only in dire circumstances.
Lucius believes he is the smartest person in the room, which is sometimes true. He is an expert in metaphysics, and was one of the most influential figures in the development of alchemy. In regards to his research and areas of study, Lucius focuses on the understanding of past events rather than with the future. He is a firm believer that everything that happens has a cause that can be understood, especially the supernatural.
Background(Character Bio) Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis was a man of privilege in the Roman Empire in the 2nd Century of the Common Era. He was a politician, rhetorician, poet, philosopher, physicist, and small time practitioner of the occult. He used some minor charms and hexes for some time, a common practice among those on the outskirts of the Roman Empire. Shortly after being accused of the use of magic by his step-son and a rival of his, Apuleius (as he was called then) was approached by what was later learned to be a demon. A deal was made: eternal in the pursuit of the sciences and knowledge would be granted to Apuleius in that he would never age further, if he would do whatever the demon asked of him when necessary. Apuleius agreed, but to this day regrets that choice.
For nearly a thousand years, Apuleius had the chance to learn and study under the greatest practitioners of magic at the time to unlock the secrets of the universe. He lived a life of pleasure, using his increasing magical aptitude to get anything he wanted when he wanted it. While he refuses to talk about it, a study of occult history hint that he was certainly involved in the deaths of powerful Roman individuals and inadvertently aided in the fall of the Roman Empire.
During the "Dark Ages," Apuleius was discontent with the state of the world. The world was changing, and not for the better. So he isolated himself and experimented. He began unlocking the secret of eternal life, and learned how to slow his aging on his own rather than having to rely on a demon. He then dedicated his time to learning how to get himself out of his contract and banish the demon to Hell for eternity. In the meantime, Apuleius did his best to push magic and physics in the right direction during the Renaissance and the age of Enlightenment, always hiding in the shadows.
Apuleius was actually one of the first cases covered by the Occult Investigations Agency. His efforts to banish his demon led to unnecessary casualties, but he was ultimately successful. Following the chaos, he was given a choice: join the OIA, or spend time in prison. While not ideal, Apuleius chose the first option. He has taken on the name Lucius, and joined the OTO due to his experience of dealing with high level threats. He shares his expertise with R&D as necessary, but prefers the "thrill" of risking his life on assignment.
Training(if applicable) No Practical Combat Experience Trained in the art of magical item and ritual identification Trained Forensic Scientist
Relevant Experience(if applicable) Nearly two millennium's worth of research on supernatural and occult practices P.H.D.'s in Physics, Philosophy, and Biology
Notes The character is based off of the historical figure, Apuleius, but with obvious changes. His background is kept somewhat vague to allow for weird allusions to historical events as needed in conversation. Apuleius is not immortal in the sense that he can't be killed: he actually tries to not go in the field due to a fear of getting killed. He is only unable to age naturally.
Race: Cambion Gender: Male Age: 427 Psychological Evaluation: Sylox is an interesting person. Son of a Demon, raised by a witch, has led to Sylox having an odd disposition to other supernaturals. He doesn’t fear death, and isn’t afraid to risk other people’s lives to get results, often to the dismay of his colleagues. One thing that most people notice, is that he doesn’t seem to take anything seriously. Believing the sole purpose of life is to have a good time. A trait he seemingly got from his father. He also developed a penchant for magic. He got this from the woman who raised him. Now he uses Magic to solve nearly any problem he comes across. Using for the most menial of tasks, just show it off.
Background The story of Sylox, like most stories starts with his birth. Actually, it started about nine months before his birth. His mother, Lois King, made a deal with the Devil. Well, not the real devil, but rather a greater Demon known as Graz’zt. The deal was she would give him a son, if he gave her eternal life. The deal was struck, and Sylox was conceived. Then, the next week, she made a deal with a Witch offering up her first born Son. Sylox was never told what his birth mother got from the deal, but she never had to work a day in her life after that.
Then along cake little baby Sylox. The look on the Witch’s face was priceless when she realised the baby was of demon blood. What ensued was a custody battle, the likes of which hadn’t been seen before. A greater Demon vs a Witch fighting over who gets to keep the child. Meanwhile Lois had left. Leaving the two supernatural forces to fight it out.
An agreement was reached. The child would be raised on Earth, by the Witch, as was promised. Since the Demon’s deal didn’t mention custody. However, Graz’zt managed to get the kid every second weekend. Was it fair? No. But life wasn’t. At least the Witch prevented Graz’zt using Sylox as a gate to allow him up to earth.
Thus, Sylox was raised, being taught the Mystic Arts by the Witch who raised him. What was interesting was spending every second weekend in Hell. Mainly because it wasn’t terrible. Graz’zt looked out for his Son during his time in Hell, which led to Sylox actually enjoying his time there.
Combining Demonic and Arcane magic was a task in of itself. An interesting ordeal. He studied it in his own time starting back when he was around sixteen. The first couple times it got a little messy. Letting more than a few lesser demons up onto Earth. He learned though. Four hundred years had given him time to practice.
Training(if applicable): Trained in Witchcraft by his mother Trained in Demonic Magic by his father Trained in the use of Blades by Demons in Hell Taught the art of Gunslinging from Doc Holiday Military Training
Relevant Experience(if applicable): Spent every Second Weekend in Hell Served in both World Wars Served as an Exorcist for several years Is responsible for keeping his Dad in Hell
Notes:
Greater Demons cannot pass onto Earth without a bridge. At least not on any meaningful way. While there are many theories about how to allow a Greater Demon full access to Earth, only one remains tried and test. A child of said demon. Hence why greater Demons are so willing to make deals for birthing them a son. The combination of a Demons own ‘Font’ and a human soul creates the perfect bridge for summoning a Greater Demon. This isn’t to say that through elaborate sacrifices it can’t be done, just a child of a demon is easier. However, there is a way to prevent the Cambion from becoming a bridge, and that is with a Demon Mark. Developed by Witches and Fae working together, the mark branded on Sylox’s back, and prevents Graz’zt from crossing over to the mortal world.
Sylox’s Weapons of Choice are dual sub machine guns.
@Sanity43217 For plot and lore reasons your character wont work. There isn't any traveling between worlds or realities. Such a thing can only be done by certain individuals and with a great deal of preparation and effort.
His father's benevolent behavior seems to contradict the nature of demons but I'll allow it as "it's part of his more nefarious plan"
Sylax's skills need to be explained better, as "magic"and "shields" are too vague to allow. His interactions with Hell and his father cant be allowed as it breaks the lore.
To be honest, a lot of it needs to be changed for Sylax to work. A suggestion I have, would be to instead have him be the product of an incubus and a human both living on earth. As he's half human he would have mortality and so placing his birth 400 years ago would be a bit much.
