Delta Green: An organisation which encourages middle-aged accountants and bureaucrats to drive vans filled with dynamite into the homes of white supremacists who worship the risen spirit of Hitler.

tl;dr - Delta Green was a government program born of the US government's raid on the degenerate coastal town of Innsmouth, Massachusetts. Dissolved during the Vietnam War in 1969 following a disastrous and unsanctioned raid in Cambodia, Delta Green post-1970 is an illegal, unsanctioned conspiracy of military personnel, federal agents, and capable and exceptional civilians that investigate and dispose of preternatural threats to the US and the world as a whole. Officially reinstated in late 2001 as 'The Program' and tasked to investigate, recover, and/or destroy preternatural threats to the US, Delta Green often achieves these high ideals with low methods.

Education: Were you a straight-edge, motivated college-boy riding a scholarship through West Point straight into a Lieutenant rank or did you learn everything you know during your time in the military/law enforcement/criminal life?

Background: This is where you flex how good your writing and research into your character goes. Are they a scientist or scholar? A career criminal? A federal agent? A state detective? You are the cowboy, the idealist, the unfettered, grizzled veteran with one last op in him, or the person not knowing what he's getting himself into. You are motivated and believe in what you're doing, half the reason you were picked.

The other half is that you've brushed shoulders with the unknown in some way but have yet to go mad; come across some weird stuff in the Afghan mountains, seized some weird artifacts on a raid, busted a small-time religious cult while undercover. Cognitive dissonance worked wonders, it seems, because instead of a gibberish mess you’re pretty alright.

Personality: Try to get detailed with this. You'll want to know how they'll react if they ever come across a drug-fueled sacrificial blood orgy to Nyarlathotep.

Family, Friends, and Associates: Wife? Kids? Ma and Pa? Best Friend? any and all go here. These count as Bonds and can be invoked when failing a WP roll. Each Bond has points equal to your character’s WP and invoking the specific bond lowers their score by -1 point.

Dice Rules -

Rolls made that do not pertain to skills but instead attributes themselves are rolled as 1d20(+attribute points), i.e. “Roll to lift the log out of the road and drive past.”

Rolls for Bureaucracy are made when requesting resources from your character’s home agency. These are rolled the same way as any other attribute, but the item requested will possibly lead to inquiry depending on how big the expense is. A request for information on a suspect is going to raise less questions for a federal agent than requesting an FBI HRT team be called in.

Likewise, sanity rolls will have to be made when doing violent acts on helpless or innocent individuals, feelings of helplessness due to unforeseen mistakes and the like, and brushes with the supernatural. These sanity checks are rolled just like any other attribute-specific roll, with the option of making a saving roll using your willpower as a modifier. Should your PC fail a SAN roll even after a saving roll using Willpower, deduct one point from your character’s Willpower. Willpower can be recharged to completely full by a successful Home Scene.

Combat-
*In combat engagements where your character is taken off guard, the modifier of your awareness skill is rolled on 1d20+[modifier]-5. 6-9 keeps your character from being overpowered and only lightly wounded, 10-20 lets your character successfully repel and counter with the weapon they are using.

*Just as well, in situations where your character gets the drop on a character, as in breaching and clearing a room, you get an automatic +5 on your initial combat roll against your first two targets. Successful stealth attacks get the same modifier, but only against the first target if attacking at hand-to-hand range, regardless if using a knife or a gun.

1-10 is a failure, your character will be injured and brought down, where a second roll of the dice will determine if the enemy will continue to focus on this character to finish the job or take on another target (less than 5, continue the attack, 5 and up, move on unless there’s no other characters to fight). Depending on the circumstances, GM will decide if the situation will be fatal. Close characters may elect to intervene, where if a player says they wish to intercept, will have to do another combat roll to see if they both make it to the character in time and receive injury in the process.

11-15 is a success, but with minor injury. Your character receives a minor wound that will have to be treated and will hinder their ability to fight somewhat, but it won’t take them out of the fight. Each subsequent roll with an injury will have a -1 penalty on the roll, and each injury added increases the penalty.

16-20 is a success where the best possible outcome for that engagement occurs.

Stealth-
1-10, Rolls in stealth that fall within this range are considered a failure. Your character is spotted.

11-15 rolls mean a soft success. Enemies may know you are there but they don’t know where you are.

16-20 is a resounding success.

Forensics-
1-10 is a failure, you may elect to make a saving roll but only if the initial roll resulted in a 6 or higher. The saving roll is a 1d5.

11-15 is a soft success. Investigating a crime scene means you may or may not find all clues. Cleaning a crime scene means that there may still be evidence left behind by the cleaner and law enforcement may be able to latch onto their trail.

16-20 is a resounding success.

Interrogation-
This isn’t always waterboarding and threats. Players may make use of the good ol’ good cop-bad cop dynamic to squeeze a suspect. Carrying out torture calls for a Sanity roll for Sanity - Violence, 1d20(-WP). Don’t expect wholly accurate answers from this method.

1-10 failure. You may opt to use torture, and if you do then 1d20(+interrogation modifier). Whether a failure or success after that, make the San roll for Violence.

11-15 Soft success, the detainee gives away a tidbit of information that might be worth looking into.

16-20 resounding success.

Home scenes are vignettes that take place between missions and story-beats to outline the PCs' daily lives. This is a stretch of time that usually takes place a week in-game before they're contacted to get back to work. Players are in control of these scenes with me, the GM, possibly playing NPCs if asked.

What Changed?
During a Home Scene, take stock of anything and everything that's changed for a character after an operation.

Bonds Damaged or Broken
Describe how the relationships in your life have deteriorated. Colleagues, friends, spouse, children, anything and everything in their interpersonal relationships outside of Delta Green. You want to open up, but you know you can't, or else.

Permanent Injuries
What injuries did they get, how do they hinder them? What do they look like?

Disorders Gained/Worsened
If your character has chosen to turn to drugs and alcohol to quiet the memories. If they already have unhealthy coping mechanisms, do they worsen? Has their PTSD gotten worse, or are they (not) noticing the warning signs of it beginning to take hold?

Work
If the PC misused any of their contacts or resources within their home agency, how does it effect their relationships with the higher-ups? The Contact themselves?

Home Scenes can be any of the following-

Fulfill Responsibilities
If your character focuses on day-to-day obligations and relationships, describe something the character is doing at work or at home to support one Non-Delta Green bond. Roll for a sanity test. Success strengthens the Bond, a soft-failure strains it, and failure means a disastrous conflict; a bad argument, your kid is in the hospital, you find your wife/husband with another wo/man, etc. Get creative. And depressing if a failure occurs.

Back to Nature/Alone Time
Your character can spend time in seclusion, in nature or otherwise. Keep in mind this isn't a day out with the family, this is your character wanting to be alone. Either way, if they choose this, this strains Bonds if they have any outside of Delta Green. Roll for a sanity test. Success means that the time spent alone doesn't damage any bonds, soft-success that the time spent alone does fuck-all for their mind-state, and a failure means that a Bond gets strained. Your choice when the argument with this Bond happens.

Establish a New Bond
Your character attempts to create a new Bond. This means that the person or group is becoming a very important part of your characters' lives. Roll a sanity test. Success gives you a new Bond, soft-failure has your character fail to hit it off, and failure means your character could've spent time alone wallowing, or the attempt at gaining friendship went horribly wrong somehow, or perhaps they betrayed some trust by going out and drunkenly hooking up with someone. Who knows, get creative.

Go to Therapy
Therapy is a systematic deconstruction of mental trauma. It is an ongoing process requiring honesty and commitment. Your character must decide whether to truthfully tell the therapist what caused them to sign up. If they do, roll for persuasion. If you succeed, the therapist believes everything you say, good and bad. Soft success means anything you tell her about the Unnatural is passed off as delusions. Failure may lead to her canceling the session after the confession.

Mentioning inflicting violence on another person deserves a persuasion roll. Success means she listens to everything you say, good and bad, with no concerns that there will be continuing violence after you leave their office. Soft-failure deserves a sanity roll for the therapist. Failure has her call the authorities either to the office or to your place of residence if it is known to them or you are staying there during the Home Scene.

Personal Motivation
Your character indulges in the things that they find most meaningful. This strains relationships with bonds the same way Back to Nature/Alone Time does.

Stay on the Case
Your character spends nights and weekends poring over evidence and case files from the past operation. This reduces bonds in the same way Personal Motivation and Back to Nature/Alone Time does. This gives the chance of finding some pertinent clue, maybe a particularly valuable one. Perhaps whatever hunch you get turns out to be dangerously wrong, or perhaps you find nothing and instead endlessly obsess into a spiral of self-destruction...

Your character’s sanity is based on their WP stat. The higher the WP the more solid your character’s sanity. Your WP Stat determines the outcomes of WP rolls. WP rolls are made when your character is faced with three different types of scenarios-

Violence both inflicted and witnessed, second- or first-hand.

In cases of your character inflicting violence, this is in cases where they are faced with inflicting violence in cold blood or towards individuals usually deemed as harmless, I.e. assassination, hurting an Eldritch Abomination-tainted child, or elderly persons.

Helplessness comes into play when situations that get out of hand in which your character can not possibly foresee or influence the outcome. I.e. Oops, the cultist we decided to let live went on a murder spree a week later.

Unnatural is where your character comes into direct contact with the forces that lurk beyond and beneath our reality, I.e. witnessing first-hand a cultist transform into some quivering, slimy, betentacled abomination.

SAN rolls, particularly resisting SAN loss, can be done by invoking one of your Bonds. A successful SAN Roll will still inflict 1 point of WP lost. Don’t want to lose that WP point? Invoking a Bond will have your character find strength in that other person, place, or thing. Add back 1 point to your WP score, but take 1 point from that Bond. Next interaction with that particular bond will be negative in some way, whether it be an argument, that special place being tainted in some way, or that special object being broken or otherwise sullied. During the next interaction with that specific Bond, you can attempt to fix that Bond and add back 1 point to the Bond, but that requires a resounding success with a WP roll. A failure at repairing the Bond does not effect the point count positively or negatively.

Now, it is possible for your character to become adapted to these SAN rolls, in which they always succeed. Sounds rad, right? Well, not entirely. Unnatural can not be Adapted against, but Helplessness and Violence can be.

Adaptation to Violence happens when your character succeeds a SAN Roll to Violence-Inflicted three times, or five times succeeds a SAN Roll to Violence-Witnessed in a single span of time between Home Scenes. Now, your character Joe Schmo always succeeds SAN Rolls for Violence and is cold-blooded death machine. The trade-off is that Joe Schmo now has to make SAN Rolls to avoid inflicting violence on others in times of extreme stress(A hard fail WP roll of any kind) and has trouble not resorting to violence as the first option. Fail a WP roll on something? Now Joe Schmo is breaking everything in his house because his wife threw something important of his away. Reaching 0 WP while Adapted to Violence sees Joe Schmo going insane and seeing everyone as an enemy until restrained or otherwise incapacitated.

Adaptation to Helplessness happens when your character succeeds five times to a SAN Roll to that type of trauma. Joe Schmo is now used to being helpless and always succeeds by default to WP Rolls concerning that specific type of trauma. The trade-off? In times where Joe Schmo fails at getting closer to his goal, he must make a WP roll to not become an apathetic mess of a person. Reaching 0 WP while Adapted to Helplessness will render your character an unresponsive, lethargic dummy of a person.

Fatima Joined the Navy as a Corpsman fresh out of West Point in 2012. Naturally having a background in languages being a first generation Syrian-American, she was destined to find herself deployed to Syria in 2014 during Operation Inherent Resolve, and spent the next 2 years there. She has spent time in several areas including time in Aleppo. She spent a lot of time tending wounds and training the local forces already in place during the beginning.

She was later reassigned to Timber Sycamore, a program ran under the CIA. In 2017 she was injured in the line of duty while deployed with a regiment of the 11th Marines Expeditionary Unit, and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart as well as an Honorable discharge, ending her military Career.

Her merits under extreme conditions in combat were weighed and she was soon drafted as an operative for the CIA since March 23rd, 2018, and only after she had recovered enough from her wounds to begin training again. She is still a fledgling operative, and has a long way to go but she shows a lot of potential. She excels in several areas, language being an obvious given, but she is extremely resourceful, cool headed, and can be persuasive, a trait most likely acquired by trying to chat up the wounded under fire.

Personality: Sarcastic, witty, and generally a glowing joy.. at least pre-injury. Now days she still sarcastic and witty, but a bit more cynical. She is seasoned and strong willed, with a cat's curiosity and just a touch of wisdom from her years.

Fatima has a gunshot wound in her right shoulder which still bothers her at times. An enemy fired a shot that hit Fatima's rifle before the round and a bit of shrapnel tore through her shoulder and doing a bit of damage to her shoulder blade before exiting. Most of the shrapnel was recovered and she has made a near full recovery, but it will most likely bother her for the rest of her life.

This also leads to her nonphysical weakness which is to say that she is often on pain medication, and has been prone to self medication via vehement amounts of hard liquor and opioids, and the occasional bit of marijuana. She usually does well as long as she stays busy, but the wagon has always been a rickety rig. Something she has maintained fairly well since her being drafted by the CIA. She is determined and extremely strong willed, so much so that it could be considered to be detrimental at times.

Appearance:



Standing at an average 5’4”, Parinaaz carries a confidence about her that she never had growing up. In fact, as a teenager she had always chosen to hide her face and body underneath ill fitting clothing, her face buried behind her hair, and the rest of it hidden behind glasses. Now, she wears a calming smile at all times, she usually appears happy and approachable - despite her serious personality. While she has worked her way out of darkness, there are still echoes of it in her rich mahogany brown eyes if one looks hard enough. It is usually those who have also experienced pain and grief that can pick it up from within her. After all, birds of a feather flock together... There is only so much smiling that can hide pain on the outside. She is quite delicate and soft spoken, but will go through moments of passion where her aura will change and she becomes much more serious - her voice authoritative. Her voice carries a light touch of the accent of Mumbai after her time spent there, and having listened to it her whole life.

Years of frequent Yoga have given her curvaceous body a toned and strong physique that still has a feminine softness about it in the right places. She is always impeccably groomed - never a hair out of place. When working at a computer or other electronic device she will wear her glasses. Her hair is long, and naturally curly - she will usually wear it out of her face in a simple ponytail or plait. She loves the intricate and traditional jewellery of her culture and so will often wear large earrings, necklaces, and bangles. She has a nose piercing but will rarely wear a stud.

Background: Born and raised in Seattle, Parinaaz is the daughter of two immigrants from Mumbai who are both very skilled in the medical profession, her father an acclaimed neurosurgeon, and her mother an equally acclaimed maternal/fetal surgeon and practitioner. Having such affluent parents meant that throughout her childhood, she had security and wealth. Having been the only child of the two incredibly successful surgeons it was as though her life was already decided - she would study medicine too. Her parents pushed her during her formative years in school to study hard, and they drilled it into her that anything less than perfect would not do.

Such a strict upbringing took a toll on her social life, and she was ridiculed terribly by her peers for her culture, skin colour, and quiet, timid personality. Of course, the bullying only made her sink deeper into her shell and become more introverted and her confidence was shattered. She rejected her culture, and instead became very Americanised in her ways, stopped practicing Hinduism, and tried to blend in as best as she could. When it came time to decide on her college - Pari had her sights on Stanford (much to her parents delight), however it was Philosophy and Religion that took her interest above all else, ironically enough - she had such a love and passion for culture around the world - despite being so ashamed of her own. She had an increasing interest in forensic sciences too. As if by some miracle, her parents eventually accepted that medicine wasn’t her passion - but were still so proud of her ambition to attend the incredibly prestigious Stanford University that they reluctantly supported it. They had left Mumbai to pursue the American dream, and this was Pari’s own version of that same dream.

During University, Pari thrived. Her natural intelligence shone through and she was able to achieve incredible grades consistently. Her social life thrived as she naturally exuded confidence which attracted like-minded people. She joined several alternative clubs and societies - like the movie society, a DnD club, and an astronomy club. She found her tribe of introverts and having them around her helped her develop her social skills.

During her Postgraduate study of Forensics, Pari was able to take part in more field experience - and was invited to local crime scenes on more than one occasion. Something that was quite different about her, was her ability to look at scenes without being emotionally affected. It was a strange cold distance that she was able to keep. There was a particularly gruesome scene that she attended where a child had been murdered that made a fellow student vomit and walk away, Pari remained stoic and this level of distance allowed her to investigate fully - noticing details that even the senior investigators did not. Truthfully, the things she saw did affect her, she was just good at burying it until she could get home. Her emotions would spill out behind closed doors and she would drown them with alcohol, sometimes drugs. It was a cliche and completely unhealthy habit - but cliche for a reason. It was a hard task - it was scarring, but somebody had to do it - and she was so damn good at it. It had to be her. She began to have an unhealthy obsession with crime, as if the burden of solving them was solely on her shoulders.

After completing her second degree, she was approached by an FBI recruiter who had been given her thesis on Religious Iconography in Crime. After a single meeting, she was flown out to Montana to assist in the investigative analysis of a religious cult that were growing larger and more powerful within a smaller county. It took the team 8 months of undercover work, investigation, interrogation, and analysis to finally bring the cult down. The 8 months had taken a massive toll on Pari, and she was drinking more than ever, smoking marijuana, and dabbling in other drugs - mostly Oxycontin.

During the time in Montana, Pari grew romantically close to a field agent, Simon. The two had a deep connection, he was older than her - 10 years her senior at 36 years old. They would stay up late at night together and talk about many things - literature, movies, art, their ambitions, their lives… Their future plans after they brought down the cult. It didn’t take long for Pari to fall in love with him, and vice versa. But love found in the middle of darkness didn’t last… In the final showdown of the takedown of the cult, while Pari was in the offices compiling reports and data, Simon was gunned down by a cultist. Just like that. He died on the spot - the bullet hit him dead centre between the eyes. He had been trying to help a civilian. The mission was a success, but Pari lost everything.

At 28, she was incredibly accomplished academically, and gifted in her line of work - so gifted that she had been employed by the FBI as an analyst immediately after joining the cult team, and was in her second year of employment with them. Yet, she was so far in a dark spiral - hiding her feelings and pain, in desolate grief over the loss of Simon for two years. It was when she finally hit rock bottom after a cocaine and oxycontin overdose almost took her life that she was forced to make changes to her life.

While unconscious and dying, Pari had a religious out of body experience, which wound up being the start of her spiritual journey back into Hinduism. She recalls looking down at her body from above with a warm light suspending her in midair, and she felt completely at peace. While watching her body, she was visited by the Hindu triumvirate; Bhrama, Vishnu, and Shiva. One by one they explained to her that she had work to do in her life, that this was not her time and she must help those who suffered. All this did, was confirm that her obsession had not been for nothing - it was on her shoulders. After they had delivered their messages, it was Ganesh who pulled Pari back to her body. When she woke, she knew logically that her vision and experience had been the side-effects of the drugs and was nothing more than an drug induced dream - but the messages had resonated with her, and she felt different upon waking. As if she really had been given a second chance by some higher power.

Following the overdose, she was given time off out of the FBI to recover, and so she took the leave as an opportunity to travel, where she ended up in Mumbai - the home of her parents. She spent 3 years there, assimilating herself to the culture, praying, meditating, and practicing yoga. During this time, she also volunteered to help with the struggling communities - raising money, teaching in the local schools, and organising donations from other countries to assist the communities. Still, she yearned to get back into her passion - and almost as soon as she wished for it, her wish was granted when bodies of children started piling up in the slums of Mumbai.

Each body had something in common - they were all young boys dressed in women's clothing, in makeup, and mutilated in horrific ways. Pari was asked to join the local homicide force and they worked for months to track down the killer - her incredible mind and analytical skills were paramount to their success. She was directly responsible for saving the life of a young boy, Rohan, who had been selected by the depraved killer as his next victim. With the killer apprehended, Rohan safe, and her heart mended - she finally felt ready to return to Seattle, and to her old job.

Since returning, for the last 3 years Pari has maintained a lifestyle of complete sobriety, continues to practice Hinduism, and was moved into a specialist homicide department of the FBI. She is frequently called out across the country to investigate anything with religious undertones and symbolism due to her expertise in religious criminology. She continues in her academic pursuits, delivering occasional guest lectures at Stanford University and writing papers.

Personality:
Sarcastic, witty, and generally a glowing joy.. at least that was Serena prior to receiving her injury in Syria. Serena is still sarcastic and witty, but she is a bit more cynical. She is seasoned and strong willed, with a cat's curiosity and just a touch of wisdom from her years. She has lost a lot and often struggles with bouts of excessive guilt, the dirty fingerprints left from traumatic experiences in the field. She is a bit of a lush and likes to "have a good time", perhaps a bit more than is healthy. She has a head built and governed by logic, an equal skeptic for both organized religion and the paranormal.
Serena is a chain-smoker, and heavy coffee drinker, alcoholic. She tends to steer clear of coffee shops and hipster kids finding them to be repulsive, and she is easily annoyed. Perturbed by the mundane and remedial, she often loses focus due to boredom or a lack of sufficient stimuli to keep her adequately occupied. Serena is very independent and in no way tries to leverage her injury, and is highly self sufficient.
She seems to prefer short flings and one night stands over the long winded false adorations and pretenses of a sustainable relationship. She has terrible taste in men, and her decision-making skills in this area of life are less than desirable. Two abortions, one of which occurred when she was 17 that the family still doesn't talk about, and the other more recently only several months ago.
She is a blunt speaker, and more often than not, frank enough to clear a table in remarkable timing. She spends half of her time eating shitty Vietnamese takeout and binge-watching television series on Amazon prime, and the other half in Kickboxing gyms and cheap Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes, but mainly just to keep a taut belly and maintain the shape of her ass. Serena also sees a shrink, whom she talks with on a biweekly basis who also keeps tabs on her and her affinity for hydrocodone medication and alcoholism. Doc can sometimes manage to get her to squeal a bit about her nightmares and some things she had seen in Syria, how often she was having them and that sort of thing. She's been pushing Serena to try some hypnotherapy, but she has been more than reluctant for fear of what might come out in regressions. She has a small townhome in the Brooklyn area. It is rather bare and she lacks in the decorative department, A good thing really because she has grown a bit untidy in the past year or so.
Her refrigerator is also mostly barren, save for an ever-present large jar of pickle spears, mayonnaise, and sixer or twelve pack of domestic beer, and the occasional pack of eggs and no less than two or three takeout containers that she will never eat. Freezer is mostly TV dinners, lots of Marie Calendar's and Bob Evan's, freezer burnt bags of broccoli and tin foil packs of hamburger meat marked with only the best intentions. Usually a half gallon of whiskey in the cabinets, along with saltines and several boxes of Hamburger Helper and a few cans of tuna. She also just started making payments on a black 2018 Dodge Charger with two fat red racing stripes. Figured she'd learn to work on it some, kind of like a side project. She hasn't done much with it yet, and probably wont be messing with it any time soon, but she did buy the extensive owner's manual holding down her cocktail table along with a few spent beer bottles. She does choose to smoke outside however, possibly the only sign of decency she has left.
When she isn't being a total recluse in front of the TV or at the local Kickboxing gym she can usually be found with her friend Cindy, taking full advantage of low effort night life bliss, usually some dive bar shithole dotting a street corner, with cheap drinks, and even cheaper women. Guess it made them both feel better about their selves in some form or other. They both seemed to suffer from the same social afflictions in the relationship department, so you know what they say, "birds of a feather"..

Serena's parents (names undisclosed) both still live in a quaint suburb in upstate New York. Her father was a Syrian immigrant who came to the US in the mid seventies, picking up trade work as a jeweler, and went on to own his own store by the mid eighties. He soon married to an attractive American girl from the Bronx. No other immediate family to speak of in America, or Syria.
She doesn't have a lot in the way of friends, and her relationships are sporadic, and are usually tragically detrimental. She keeps in contact with a handful of friends from West Point, but usually only by phone or social media. Cindy Grimes, and local Brooklyn girl would be her only face to face friend. She lived in the same neighborhood and they met at the local kickboxing gym. She is not married and doesn't seem to wish to be, nor does she have any desire for children.

Fears: Not being "good enough", obsolescence. Serena has always felt like that if she fails it's because she didn't try hard enough, or do enough, and that all fault is always on her shoulders. An unrelenting tug in the back of her mind about what she witnessed in 2017, and an inner fear that it might have been real and not some fraudulent fog conjured from her imagination as a result of being in shock.



Weaknesses:
Serena has a gunshot wound in her right shoulder which still bothers her at times. An enemy fired a shot that hit Fatima's rifle before the round and a bit of shrapnel tore through her shoulder and doing a bit of damage to her shoulder blade before exiting through her back. Most of the shrapnel was recovered and she has made a near full recovery, but it will most likely bother her for the rest of her life.

This also leads to her nonphysical weakness which is to say that she is often on pain medication, and has been prone to self medication via vehement amounts of hard liquor and opioids, and the occasional bit of marijuana. She usually does well as long as she stays busy, but the wagon has always been a rickety rig. Something she has maintained fairly well since her being drafted by the CIA. She is determined and extremely strong willed, so much so that it could be considered to be detrimental at times.

Appearance: About 192 cenimetres in height, Laurie has dark hair on the border of black and brown, swamp green eyes and peach skin near-permanently tinted rose by the sun. He has a wiry frame, insuring he has only somewhat more muscle than ordinary in his lean build, his feet and hands covered in scars and calluses. His right thigh has a quite nasty scar from an alligator bite and a somewhat deformed navel from a gunshot that landed in it. His hair will generally be in a mess with a vague attempt to comb it down and cropped but noticeable sideburns going down either side. The Ranger has somewhat shapely ears and an ever so slight cleft chin.

Background:

Laurence was born to a fairly affluent family of Louisiana French, his Father a lawyer with a firm that did well caring for the many local hillbillies with law problems and his mother an accountant helping her husband and the very same hillbillies.

Throughout early school years Laurie did okay, but often found his mind wandering, more interested in whatever was happening outside or with his siblings than what was in class. He progressed in that "okay" in a fairly uneventful youth just about managing his bachelor's degree. He had taken a course in data science as it satisfied his father's hopes that the lad go work in his firm later, while also satisfying the young man particularly when his environmental technologies minor was added.

But as he afterwards went to law school, both he and his father gradually came to terms with the realization he wouldn't become a lawyer along with his dad, even if his father was disappointed with the fact he dropped out just as he was about to finish.

After that he went straight to the Park Rangers, more than happy with the barely minimum wage he started with. But, he took to his job and progressed in the first year from Range I to Ranger II, and so on and so forth.

Though his first year was uneventful, that was because he was given the easier trails to cross. It was not much time before he was given worse routes and he saw strange things. He got accustomed to having to chase away moonshiners, but he could never get used to the doll candled shrines, odd voices, and dark figures he saw at times. Usually he chalked it up to the amount of time he spent alone in the swamps and woods, but at a certain point it got weird. He wasn't particularly frightened of them, but he felt it disturbed his work.

Laurie decided to be a ranger in a different state, and moved to Utah. Sure, the place had them Mormons who were pretty creepy but he could at least escape all the big-foot and cult style shit he saw back home. But his visions didn't escape him, in fact they only got more frequent. Particularly annoyed, he moved to New England and then to California, both of which still annoyed him with this shit, shit that was more annoying than getting into shootouts with drug cooks and getting attacked by animals.

Yet recently he got a bit of relief it seemed, for he got contacted by some odd fellers in suits. Now he apparently works for some higher-ups in the government, pretending he knows what the fuck is going on.

Personality: Laurence is a funnily little individual. Periods of perfect calm will be interspersed with rambunctious spots of feeling adventure and mischief. He's generally suspicious of his fellow man, but to those he befriends he'll value as a mother her babe. He isn't particularly comfortable in big cities, but as with his other dissatisfactions he has over time learned to mask this. Laurie will also generally behave to others as they to him, only being erudite and polite with the good old Southern hospitality to those who show him some. If he doesn't get it, then he will show them the nasty redneck he could be stereotyped as.

Family, Friends, and Associates: Laurence has a quite large family. Both grandparents on both sides are alive and kicking, as is his mother father. He also has two brothers and a sister, but he only maintains much contact with his grandparents, all of whom he makes sure to visit at least bi-monthly on absolute minimum. Still, his father is friends with big figures, important judges, a senator, and other folks he meets in country clubs.

Fears: Laurence is not a little pussy, he'll state that to anyone and he'll have much to verify this claim. There isn't really anything one could think of off the top of their head that would get him to be frightened. But that's because most people couldn't think outside the box for his case. What frightens Laurie is that which is unknown, and that which cannot be understood. The idea of something that there are no words to describe, the possibility that something one cannot wrap their heads around exists gives him the chills at any time of the day.

Tools/Equipment: His phone, a radio, first aid kit, several water bottles and granola bars, a watch, a compass, a map, head-flashlight, a heavy flashlight, stationery, a swiss army knife and a heftier knife. Background:
Born in Little Havana, Miami, Florida, Alvarez is the son of Doctor Miguel Alvarez, a 3rd generation Mexican American family doctor with a practice in Little Havana, and Isabella Alvarez, a Cuban refugee who fled the Castro regime in 1975 when she was 22-years-old by bribing a smuggler to bring her and 13 other refugee hopefuls to Miami, Florida, where she claimed refugee status after her parents were prosecuted by G2, the Cuban secret police, for accusations of espionage when her father was apprehended taking photographs near a military installation. Despite his protests that he was simply a nature photographer Isabella’s father was apprehended and her mother shortly after according to Isabella’s testimony. Fearing for her safety, Isabella petitioned extended family for help, and she was soon on a boat towards the United States. She would never learn of her parents’ fate.
Soon after her refugee claim was accepted, Isabella became a custodian at a Little Havana fitness center where she met Miguel, an American with deep ties to family on both sides of the American and Mexican border, who was at the time working towards his medical doctorate at the University of Miami. The two remained friends for a few years until they began dating and eventually married in 1981, where Jaime was born on October 17th, 1983.
Jaime’s childhood was unremarkable, unlike his mother’s journey; he attended Citrus Grove Elementary School as a straight A student who was likeable, if shy and reserved. Later, he would attend Green Springs High School where he excelled at the sciences and mathematics, and it seemed all but certain that he would follow in his father’s footsteps in the field of medicine. He was in grade 10 when news of his uncle Hernandez Alvarez passing away from cocaine overdose, striking Jaime with grief and a sense of injustice as he witnessed his father openly sob for the first time in his life; Hernandez had been close with his brother and was a large part of the family, but debt and a rocky marriage had made him make regrettable decisions that would ultimately cost him his life.
Jaime then decided that he needed to take matters into his own hands and pursue a career in law enforcement or criminal justice; he began to focus on psychology and criminology, and well as anthropology for insights into addictions and the drug trade that had claimed his uncle.

Jaime graduated from High School and was immediately enrolled in the University of Miami under scholarship for a major in criminology in 1996, where he spent the next four years applying himself with a sense of drive that eluded many of his fellow students, even going so far as keeping a framed portrait of Hernandez in his dormitory desk to remind him of what he had set out to do.

Not everything was all strictly business during his university years. Jaime had informally introduced himself to other students as James, going so far as to use that name when submitting reports to avoid frequent corrections of people mispronouncing his name, a habit that would carry onto his future employment. He was a prolific reader, made a pair of girlfriends, one of whom, Gabby Clifford, remained with him well into his employment with the ATF, going so far as to rent a high rise condo after his employment.
Jaime kept close with his father and mother, who at this time had left her custodial job to focus on her love of music, where she got her start playing guitar in bars and street festivals. Both helped Jaime financially as he expressed interest in joining a sailing club and a college baseball team, of which he would remain a lifetime Miami Marlins fan. Through this clubs he became close friends with Nick Clemons, a grandson of Haitian immigrants who had legally changed their surname within a year of arrival Stateside. The two were largely inseparable, despite a distinctly different career path; Jaime was determined to join the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Nick had his sights on the coastguard if his promising talents in baseball didn’t get him scouted first.
He graduated in 2000 with honors and applied to the ATF almost immediately, getting hired on several months after his application was submitted, his physical and background check conducted, and his references cleared. Early 2001, he began his career by starting in the Criminal Investigators Training Program up in Glynco, Georgia where he studied everything ranging from tactical driving, firearms handling (something his father was not too keen on, despite Jaime purchasing a personal Glock 17 after graduation), crime scene management, and other aspects of police investigations and forensics. Due to much of this program being quite a departure from his academic background, he struggled with the more confrontational aspects such as interviewing and handcuffing procedures, as well as his firearms proficiency given his inexperience with them, but his hard work ethic paid off and he graduated in the top third of the 12 week program, moving onto the Special Agent Basic Training program.
SABT made the difficulties Jaime experienced in CITP exasperated given its much more physically rigorous training process, which involved hand-to-hand fighting techniques, hard physical training, and advanced firearms and tactical training. While he worked at becoming passable in those fields, and eventually quite competent, he excelled at writing reports and identifying illicit substances, firearms, and the other academic fields. Thanks to his own personal handgun and practicing on his own time at the range, Jaime became a very proficient shot with a handgun and other weapons, such as pump-action shotguns and M4 carbines, came much easier afterwards and he was able to begin to excel at the tactical training and shooting training, reaching the peak physical condition of his life and finding a degree of confidence he’d been lacking in the more dangerous and demanding aspects of his career.

Upon graduation, Jaime was posted in Tampa, Florida, where he broke off the relationship with Gabby due to her not being able to relocate because of her own educational and career aspirations, although Nick came with him to Tampa to find work after his own graduation and the two young men split costs to make the fairly pricy gulf city more affordable. For this reason, Alvarez is much more at ease in remote locations and quiet areas that haven’t been the location of mass death and violence; many dark spirits and ghosts linger in such places and the likelihood of encountering one that wishes you harm increases exponentially. Bullets cannot harm the intangible, and talismans only do so much to ward off malice.

Alvarez isn’t exactly in peak physical condition; years of methodically scouring crime scenes, analyzing evidence in a lab, communing with the dead, and writing up reports along with the inability to resist great smelling food have left him with a physique that can generously be described as just above average; he works out every other day for an hour to an hour and a half and he drinks a lot of water, but most of the team on Delta Green can literally run laps around him. However, he exceeds the bare minimum for the fitness tests and has passible strength and endurance; he just has more cerebral pursuits in mind.

Sleep isn’t something that comes easily to Alvarez, especially if he’s put up in a hotel in a city; the dead are everywhere and they have a habit of having a presence that can pull even the deepest sleeper wide awake. Energy drinks and coffee do the bare minimum to keep him alert at the worst of times, and if an area is particularly heavy in spectral presence, it becomes increasingly difficult to differentiate what’s real and what’s the spirits; it affects his judgement and mental acuity. To compensate for this, he often takes quick naps when things are calm and has been found with his head down on his desk from time to time; it’s not often he gets more than 5 or 6 hours of sleep on a good night, and the others know he often uses the times he is forced awake to work.
