AppearanceBruised, battered and bandaged, that is how Kaz has chosen to live his life. As such it is difficult to say whether Kaz can be called beautiful or handsome. Perhaps the famed androgyny of his father was passed on to the Japanese youth, but such an assertion is made with little empirical evidence. After all swelling in one’s cheek is not a great determinant of beauty. All that being said, a few obvious conclusions can of course be drawn without the follies of personal biases and wishes. First and foremost is his height, at 190 cm, he stands tall especially for a Japanese male. This height is accompanied by well toned muscles that can be seen whenever Kaz’s skin deems fit to expose itself to the air. A feat that has a history of occurring whenever the Dionysian youth finds himself locked in particular prolonged and heightened battles. Meanwhile his black hair remains casually and perpetually swept back with but a lone strand dyed red. This same shade of red occasionally seems to flash in his normally brown eyes.
The man known as Kaz walks with his head held high, and an almost savage stance illustrating his boisterous nature. His eyes are constantly scanning others as he seeks to either dismiss them as too weak to fight, or appraise them as a potential target. Indeed, the resting half scowl on his face and overall demeanour grants him quite an intimidating aura that scares away most would be conversationalists. Not that the Kaz is one to take note of such a fact. However while this swagger is normally the side of him at the forefront of his standard interactions, it has been known to become quite a bit more relaxed when dealing with puppies, kittens and children.
As for clothes, red and black are the predominant colors in Kaz’s wardrobe. The youth can be called a fan of open jackets, particularly the red one that constantly adorns his body, but that is as far as Kaz’s tastes in apparel goes. The man cares more for keeping his skills sharp, than looking sharp. Indeed the rest of his apparel most often consists of simple black shirts and jeans or pants. His shoes on the other hand are typically just a random pair of sneakers. The only real concern Kaz has for clothing is finding replacements after a battle.
Personality♦ Aggressive ♦ Passionate ♦ Irritable ♦ Honourable ♦ Gentle-Hearted
Kaz is a man burning with passion. A passion that threatens to ignite all who come near him. Indeed, Kaz can be quite aggressive and is rather quick to come to blows at even the slightest insult. As such, and especially thanks to a lack of tact, Kaz is often seen as rude. Often biting back at others with sharp insults borne of his dry humour. The madness of Dionysus flows through Kaz’s blood, filling him with a passion unequalled by ordinary mortals. This hotblooded determination drives Kaz to succeed in whatever catches his fancy, unfortunately most of the time this just entails punching people.
Repeatedly.
That said, while he may be irritable, aggressive, and quick to pound the face in of anyone that doesn’t show him the proper respect, he does have a few redeeming qualities. In particular he possesses a keen sense of honour towards both those that are under his care and those who have conquered him battle. For the the thrill of the fight deserves his full focus and no underhanded tactics shall be permitted. In addition, for his friends and family, Kaz possesses a strong degree of loyalty and will always fight for the really little guys, namely puppies, kittens and children that aren’t brats.
If there is one thing to be said about Kaz, it’s that wherever he goes a storm is sure to follow. Much like his father, Kaz’s passion brings chaos wherever he walks. Although thankfully, no queens have torn their children limb from limb for him. Yet. However while he is perpetually one to pick fights and upset the status quo, Kaz can be remarkably introspective at times. The man may revel in the dramatics, but he also appears to have an affinity for the small and powerless. Perhaps it’s a protective instinct, or maybe just a result of having once felt so weak and powerless himself, but Kaz seems to be most at ease around the tiniest forms of life. Whether it be enjoying the dawn with a small blue bird, or playing catch with a young child, it is around the weak that, for at least a brief moment, all of Kaz’s boisterous blister fades away.
Just don’t bring up this fact around the young man. Not if you value keeping an unblemished face that is.
HistoryFrom the moment he was born, Kaz has been fighting against fate. On a cool March evening the divine winds of a typhoon knocked out the power in his mother’s small, rural hometown and the resulting rainfall flooded the streets. Normally, this would have been just a minor inconvenience and an excuse for students to miss school, but this was also the day the great Kaz decided to arrive. As one can imagine, the lack of transportation prevented Kaz’s mother from making it to a hospital, and the chances of a natural birth seemed slim.
However Kaz, even as a small, infantile creature, was never one to give up so easily. And thus, in what some of the villagers described as a miracle, Kaz made sure that his birth would not be intruded upon. Nor would Kaz allow the death of his mother over such trivial matters, and so despite the lack of a hospital’s facilities, the child was born without complication. This was the beginning of the great Kaz’s journey through life.
A few months later, Kaz’s mother decided to take up a job in Odaiba in the venerable position of the Japanese office worker. As a result, the young boy found himself raised in an urban city quite unlike the peaceful village his mother called home. Not that it made much difference to the child, who quickly took towards amassing large gatherings of followers. As a young child, Kaz could often be seen with a posse behind him, ready to follow their young leader into any battle.
However, Kaz was not yet battleworthy, and in his first clash, a small street brawl over the possession of a cup of noodles, Kaz found himself beaten to the ground. Just as suddenly, Kaz’s posse abandoned him for this new harbinger of goods. So it was that Kaz found himself alone in the city, but he would not be deterred so easily. Indeed, the abandonment by his followers had little effect on young Kaz, but rather the thrill of combat filled him with a burning passion. A passion he had not yet felt ignited in his whimsical life.
From that day forth, Kaz could be seen picking fights with every delinquent taller and stronger than him. Yet despite the numerous setbacks and bruises, Kaz persevered to seize his own faith. If others had been gifted with strength, than Kaz felt that it would be only natural for him to purchase it through hard work and dedication. Something that his mother would no doubt prefer he apply to his studies instead.
Yet Kaz was persistent, and once seized by this passion, Kaz could not stop. It wasn’t too long, before Kaz started winning. And it wasn’t much longer after that, that Kaz became renowned for being the undefeatable lord of combat. Unfortunately, all this focus on fighting, left Kaz ill-prepared for Japan’s most powerful foe: University Entrance Exams. After flunking, time and time again, Kaz’s mother had finally had enough.
She sat down with her young delinquent, and explained, or at least tried to explain, his divine birth. However Kaz, never the brightest student when it came to the classics, or indeed any class outside of Theatre, had difficulty understanding this mumbo jumbo about Greeks and their philandering. Although he did get the part about Greece’s economy tanking, where that tied into the whole speech, he wasn’t sure, but he understood how the rest of Europe was properly performing in its duties as loansharks. It was a duty he had some experience in.
Oh and she mentioned something about him being shipped off to some school in America.
Wait what?
His English was pretty weak.
Since then Kaz has continued to revel in dramatics, bursting onto the scene and picking fights with any and all challengers. As expected this has resulted in a lot ass kicking, and getting his ass kicked. However when blows are not being exchanged, Kaz can often be seen either on stage engaged in literal dramatics, or simply relaxing in the Mythic Forest. So far Olympus Academy has done an excellent job in molding the son of Dionysus into an even deadlier fighter, but has also, slowly, refined some of his softer traits.
His English however is still quite weak. That one’s a work in progress.
"The men of this age have forgotten who I am, but my son’s blood remembers. I left the wealthy lands of the East to bring madness and dance to the Hellenes. My son merely follows in that tradition. Don’t worry, I’m sure Olympus will fare better than Thebes, the Gods always have everything under control. Right?" —
Dionysus
Godly ParentDionysus, the Foreigner, God of Madness, Wine, Theatre, and Ecstasy.
Relationship With Godly ParentKaz was never quite sure what his mother was talking about when she first brought up Dionysus. Indeed, the young man has somehow acquired the warped conception that his father is simply some rich, western wine salesman he has yet to meet. The whole idea of Godly relations escapes Kaz’s understanding.
Demigod AbilitiesThe Ecstasy of Life - The greatest blessing from his father lies at the heart of Kaz’s being: his overwhelming and extraordinary passion. Whenever Kaz possesses a strong degree of passion for something he accomplishes it far faster than the average mortal. This is of course proportional to the level of his passion and is the reason why he has achieved such a remarkably strong body and become a deadly combatant. Indeed when it comes to combat, perhaps the realm where most of Kaz’s passion is directed, Kaz not only seems to grow with every battle, but even during them. It’s not unusual for his opponents to feel as if Kaz’s movements are getting just a bit faster, just a bit stronger, just a bit more refined as their battle wages on. However while these spikes in ability during combat, or whatever situation has Kaz’s soul burning, are not uncommon, they are merely that: temporary spikes. In order for Kaz to continuously grow he has to constantly be putting in the work. These spikes will last throughout the fight sure, but they possess no real permanence. That relies on Kaz himself, for his ability is but an accelerant for his natural growth, and not a shortcut by any means. The one real boon is that as long as Kaz maintains his passion for something, it appears there are no real limits to the heights he might reach. As long as he puts in the effort and time of course, for once again this ability is no shortcut and never will be.
Mirror, Mirror - Perhaps the most utilitarian of his godly gifts is the one that comes from his father’s domain over the dramatic arts. Kaz has been blessed with the ability to perfectly copy the mannerisms and voice of another being. The only real limit is that this ability does not provide Kaz with any knowledge he doesn’t otherwise possess. As such he can put on a perfect Morgan Freeman impression, it’s just that his Morgan Freeman will be speaking Japanese.
The Blood of Christ - Rather than drink alcohol, Kaz can absorb it to greatly strengthen his physical abilities. His skin will quite literally sponge up any alcohol splashed on it, and the more alcoholic the substance, the more Kaz’s physical traits will increase. However this power is only temporary, and the more he takes this shortcut the faster he’ll burn out. As a result Kaz rarely resorts to this trick, as it runs counter to his normal strength in being able to prolong a battle. Not to mention the man prefers a long drawn out fight, over one where he falls flat before the finish line. That said, a more useful aspect of this trick is that absorbing alcohol also increases his regenerative properties, but once again healing himself will tire him out fast. As such this ability is better served towards healing up post combat than during. There’s also only so much this ability can do, as it only increases his natural healing rate. Mortal blows or dismemberments will not be affected. A quick douse to deal with some cuts and scratches is one thing, but serious wounds are oft better left in the hands of time. Granted, with some medicinal and limited application of alcohol to make the process a little faster.
Unfettered Madness - As fitting of a descendent of Dionysus, Kaz’s has inherited traits oft seen in the Dionysian cults of old. He can not be bound by chains, and when his anger is pushed to its limit he’ll enter a berserker state. On the one hand this dramatically increases his already remarkable physical abilities and they will continue to grow until Kaz either snaps out of this state, collapses from exhaustion, or just plain drops dead. As the name implies this remarkable power comes at the cost of all semblance of rational thought, and indeed more often than not Kaz actually fights better when not in this state. For while in this state, Kaz is little more than an enraged beast, and a beast can only go off of instinct. However the real danger is perhaps the sheer ability for this mental state to simply charge headfirst and fight through mortal dangers. As a result, it is highly likely for Kaz to endure a mortal blow and only realize when he’s staring face to face with Cerberus himself. It is probably for the best that Kaz’s anger does not often reach this point.
