The Campaign

Skuberrima, a fallen pirate colony, sat amidst the howling insanity of the Screaming Vortex. Home to warring bands of hungry corsairs, and bloodthirsty raiders, Skuberrima is a world of battle and carnage, held in the dark clutches of the ruinous powers.

To most, Skuberrima is just another damned world, amidst a sea of corruption, but the devious merchant Euromulus Krynne knows of the dark and terrible secrets which lurk beneath the planet’s surface.

Krynne came to Skuberrima in search of the Gauntlet of Myreena, the once pirate queen. During its prime, the planet was at the heart of a cataclysmic feud between Myreena, and the pirate king, Eliphayne.

This battle of egos reduced Skuberrima to a charred husk of its former glory, as the planet drowned beneath an ocean of fire and blood. The gauntlet was thought lost, but Krynne believes he knows how to retrieve it.

However, the wily merchant cannot do so alone…

OOC

Storms and Shadows is a Role Play adventure, heavily inspired by the 40k tabletop RPG Black Crusade. It will follow a band of up-and-coming heretics, devoted to the various dark gods, on their quest for power and glory.

With a small, closely-knit group of players, we will play out an unholy adventure, focusing on servants of the dark gods, and their shadowy exploits.

Rules

I’d like to keep this part fairly light.

Obviously, standard guild rules apply. Additionally, I’ll make the point that we’re all here to have fun, so please conduct yourself pleasantly, and with the appropriate level of maturity.

If a player leaves, or drops off of the face of the earth, I reserve the right to decide what their character’s in-game fate is.

Whilst this adventure was inspired by Black Crusade, we won't be getting bogged down with character stats, and tabletop mechanics. Combat, and other altercations, will have their outcome decided by whatever makes the most sense, narratively speaking.

As the game's master, my word is final.

Beyond that, just don’t be a wank-muffin, and we should all have a merry old time!

Character Creation

At least at the start of this adventure, our heretics are up-and-coming villains, who will have something of an infamous reputation, but are not fully-fledged “super villains”, for lack of a better term. We will advance, and grow in notoriety, as the adventure progresses.

Beyond that, aim to create a character that could feasibly be a part of this rag-tag warband of deviants. If you’re unfamiliar with the setting, the various 40k wikis offer extensive recounts of the warhammer 4000 universe, and id4chan also hosts a more brief and humorous, yet still ultimately informative, look at everything warhammer.

Applications for character sheets go in the OOC thread. Once a character has been approved, it can then be posted in the CS tab.

“I swear to make war on the Imperium and its people, and I will
go to my grave attempting to tear down the walls of that benighted,
decadent, and foolish empire. It is not I, at long last, who have
betrayed the Imperium, it is the Imperium who has betrayed me. It is
the Imperium who has betrayed us all.”

The profile does seem a bit 'blunt' to me, and I'll likely edit it a wee bit later, but here's the initial entry for your perusal.

I'm really enjoying whats there. Big fan of Gak'Tar! You can add more, if you wish, but I will accept the CS as it is. Feel free to add our friendly xenos flayer to the CS tab.

@Bloodrose working with the other Astartes player to get our CS coordinated. He is going Alpha Legion and I'll be playing a Nightlord.

If there is anyone with ideas for integrating their history with us just let me know. Should have the first pass of the CS done today without the character ties. Then I'll edit in how he ended up entangled with everyone

Interesting that you guys have gone for two of the least chaos-worshipping legions, but I'll wait to reserve judgement for now.

Looking forward to the CSs!

Any chance we'll get a discord for quick communication?

Can I make a tzeentchian sorcerer/magister type? Possibly with his own ship (just an iconoclast destroyer or something small) and a cult/crew where he can carry out his experiments and rituals with impunity?

If there is enough interest in a discord, I can set something up.

A sorcerer is absolutely fine. As for the ship and cult, that would need to be handled particularly well. I'd have to see how it was all described in the character sheet.

This is a group of up-and-coming heretics, after all.

Judging by the sheets im seeing we don't seem to be too far down the Power org chart. Pirate captains, ex inquisitors, a couple of space marines.

I'm afraid, as a humanoid terror bird, that I have to agree with Hammer Time - we are anything but up-and-coming heretics; the Marines alone take us from a small-time outfit to a far more dangerous force. That, and due to our Inquisitor retaining his rosette, means we can quite literally requisition anything in Imperial space.

In other news... cheep-cheep, I'm a bird-man.

That is all.

Happy to get rid of the rosette. Thought it'd be off-set by the declaration of excommunicate traitoris- so he can requisition stuff, but anything too ambitious would bring the entire ordos down on his head.

@Flagg While true, simply flicking it in someones face is usually enough to get what you like - after all, no one outside the Ordos really knows anything about an Inquisitor.

I'm not saying you need to get rid of it, I'm not the GM on this one (for once), just pointing it out.

well tbh two space marines and a dude with their own ship wont matter much when say, a Strike Cruiser of Paladins rolls up and starts teleporting shipt to ship kicking ass and taking names

@Andreyich If that happens, sure. If the Imperium decides to dedicate an entire strike force of grey knights temrinators to a specific problem, than anything short of a daemon prince is fucked. And even then it's debatable. So I don't really suspect that will happen all too often.

My point was more, this collection of characters is anything but bottom of the barrel up & comers looking to make names for themselves. We have space marines, two chaos infused ogryns, one of which is also a daemonhost, someone with their own ship and crew (numbering in the tens of thousands at minimum) and another with a rosette that gives cart-blanche to literally do whatever the F*** they want. He might be an excommunicated inquisitor, but it's not as if grey knights will teleport to him instantly the moment he uses his rosette, not that anyone would be able to track such usage anyway. By the time anyone suspected it was really him in the region he could easily get whatever he needed and GTFO. Possibly even condemn a world to exterminatus while doing so.

Now, i'm not saying any of this is bad, that anyone's character concepts are bad or that things needs to change. Far from it, I'm just pointing out that all things considered, an aspiring sorcerer putt-putting around in his own little escort ship with some thralls at his command wont be what tips this group over the cliff's edge of absurdity.

The Ogryns are just muscle (though I wouldn't be surprised to see Daemonhost tomfoolery). I can assure you that Gharl is so simple-minded that he could never be a significant heretical force by himself.

@Ollumhammersong I'll second what hank is saying the ogryns are badass but just dumb muscle. Mine mas more room for nonsense but mostly he was going to be a bruiser... who can give you hyper-Ebola and super-bubonic plague when he cuts off your arm with his big ass axe. Scary as hell and hard to kill but not as if he was a plague marine or great unclean one.
