when everyday is like a war between the will to go on
and a wish that the world would spiral into the sun
turn your head toward the storm that's surely coming along

Sexuality: Bisexual, leans towards men. But isn't open about it
Personality: Haireth often gives the impression of being slightly standoffish or stoic upon first meeting him. He tends to keep quiet in group conversations and keeps most of his opinions to himself. Once he strikes a common cord with someone however, he will faithfully help them with anything they need assistance with and share good, earthy humor. He is very calm and even-headed, though he does hold a grudge against liars, cheats, and the like. He views himself as a simple, working man and nothing more. He keeps himself humble and dislikes folks who cast themselves as being 'mightier' such as any illegitimate authority.
The veteran is quite selfless. He doesn't hold his life above anyone else's. They all have a story to tell. He feels like he is morally obligated to help anyone suffering, no matter who or what they are. He follows orders, but will resist commands that order him to open fire on civilians or innocents. He thinks of himself as a part of a whole, and without the whole, he is incomplete. He will be loyal to his ship and his captain. Though respect is earned, not given. He is easy going around friends and patient with others when they make mistakes.
Haireth isn't the first to react when new situations arise. He likes to take the time to make the most logical, utilitarian decision before making any rash decisions. He relies more on his past experiences and tried-and-true methods of protocol over his own intuition or coming up with any non standard way of doing things. However, once he has reached his verdict on a decision, it's very difficult to persuade him to change his mind about something. He isn't stubborn, but his mind is rigid in set beliefs and he's not always the most open to new ideas or change.
Haireth would surrender for the good of the crew, but he considers cowardice a worse fate than death. He doesn't view himself as having much to lose. He takes the most practical and direct approach to situations, and doesn't easily loose his head in a fight or when under pressure.
Haireth can come up with practical solutions, but he lacks in the department of creativity. He's not necessarily hidebound, but he was never taught to think in a way that required using craft or any imagination. He is focused on the concrete, not the abstract. He wastes little time in pondering inconsequential situations that have no use to him at the moment.
Haireth doesn't usually go out of his way to "make friends" if the captain accepts someone as part of the crew, then so does he. He is plain and direct in his communication and doesn't try to be anything he isn't. He is friendly to everyone on board, but not overly so. He does have a soft spot for younger members of the crew though and likes to mentor anyone having trouble. He has an earthly sense of humor, and rustic charm, but otherwise that's it. He is worn from all his days at sea, but unbroken. He is as steady as a tide, and while he might be exhausted, has incredible stamina for someone his age.
While he finds thinking over improbable solutions to be a waste of his time, he does spend a majority of the time alone to reflect on past events. He is very sentimental and thinks often about people who have impacted his life. He enjoys unwinding to a good glass of liquor on the deck and gazing out at the stars on a calm night.

Current and Past Lover(s):Haireth has fancied a lot of people, but can count how many people he's seriously dated on one hand. He's always found himself more attracted to men, but has never told anyone outside of his brother about this.
History:Haireth was born in a quaint coastal town off of Glasston. His mother, Chahe and father, Eiben met during army occupation of the town due to increasing pirate activity off the coast. Soon after Haireth was born, his father, a navy officer, was called back to service elsewhere. Eiben promised to keep in touch while he was away but as months drew on, letters became less frequent, and eventually he wasn't returning Chahe's letters at all. Fearing the worst, Chahe mourned that he might have been killed during service.
Months passed and Chahe got involved with a talented witch, Daymienne’s sire. He was a merchant who sold the clothes that Chahe and the other cloth weavers made. However, once he found out that she was pregnant with his son, he quickly cast her out of the business to protect his reputation.
Soon after Daymienne was born, a half witch, Eiben returned from service. However, seeing that his young lover birthed a child to another man, he too, left. Chahe was left to take care of both the boys alone.
Haireth took on more responsibilities around the house to help his mother. The world raised him to be mature, serious. There was no room for naivety and childhood wonder. Even though they were four years apart, Haireth and Daymienne got along well. At least when they were younger. As Haireth shouldered the burden of being tasked with an early adulthood, he wanted to preserve his younger brother’s childhood as best he could. Sometimes the brothers viewed each other as entirely alien; they were as different as night and day. Especially as he found that Daymienne was departing from an honest way of living that Haireth upheld; he wondered where he had gone wrong.
Despite his father’s absence, or perhaps because of it, Haireth grew up idolizing navy service. He took the scraps of details about his father that his mother allowed to him and conjured stories about his missing parental figure. He was a war hero, a daring adventurer, a defender of the weak. Even when Haireth grew older and learned the truth about the situation that lead to his parent’s breakup, it only made Haireth more determined to join the navy. To him, it was the only way to restore honor to his broken family.
While the first few months of service and being out on the water were intense, Haireth was amazed at how fast his body adapted to the grueling conditions he was enduring. He transformed into an athletic, striking young man. And while his comrades were pinning after the fair maidens on different islands, Haireth found his admiration for his crewmates to be...a little more intense. He kept this to himself and did his job dutifully and modestly. He was nameless boy forged by the tempest winds and the roaring waves into a masterful soldier.
Even as friends and captains fell dead before him, he pushed on. Even if no one else knew of their struggles, of their lives, Haireth was determined to keep his crewmate’s stories with him. And when his time came, he too, hoped someone else would carry his life on their breath. Eternal in memory.
Originally, he didn’t think that he would serve for as long as he did. Haireth found that he was alienated from civilian life upon his return. He could never again be carefree or as oblivious as the townsfolk he used to live with. The sea and the ship were his home, and he longed to return to it.
