Superhuman Speed. Tyra is capable of moving at incredible superhuman speeds; While running at full speed, she can only be perceived as a blur. She's so fast in fact, time seems to slow down around her, making her appear to be invisible to others within their relative time frame.
BACKGROUND
Tyra Washington has been running her whole life, but in her eyes, she could never run fast enough. She was a foster child... always temporary, always on the move; "A runner" was what they called her since she never could stay in a home for more than five months without packing her things and attempting to run away. The police would always catch her before she could get too far, but that never stopped her from trying again. And again. And again.
Although being born in Staten Island, Tyra spent the majority of her life in Brooklyn, New York. She was the fourth born of five children, all of whom ended up in foster care when their single mother decided that she loved drugs more than she did her own kids. Tyra was five years old when she was placed into her very first foster home, and six when she decided that she'd try to find her way back to her mother while everyone else was sleeping. By the time she turned fourteen, she'd stayed in over twelve different homes, none of them wanting to deal with such a "troublesome" child. Tyra finally ceased her antics when she was fifteen years old; her mother had been found dead in the apartment of one of her dealers.
As she grew older and began to transition into high school, Tyra decided to take on a new hobby and try out for the track team. It didn't really come as much of a surprise to anyone when she made Varsity. It also didn't come as a surprise when the young woman received a full ride scholarship to a university in Atlanta four years following. Although hesitant to leave her siblings behind, Tyra was eager to spend some time out of New York for the very first time and chase her dreams.
Tyra spent her first three years of college training and pushing herself harder than ever before, her main goal being to eventually compete in the Olympics, but she could never run fast enough. No matter how hard her coaches pushed her, she knew that her finishing times wouldn't be quick enough to win her a medal. She knew that she'd never be able to provide for her family in the way that she'd envisioned. This realization eventually pushed the young woman into a state of depression. She was actually about to call her coach and quit when, along with seven million people across the world, she vanished into thin air.
When she returned, Tyra suddenly found herself becoming faster and faster as time went on. Not only did she manage to beat her own previous times, but she also ended up setting a new record at her first meet since re-appearing. But it didn't take much longer after that for the young woman's powers to fully manifest, and for her to realize just how fast she'd become.
