Okay, then. Here be my Side Plot character. I I'll write the world in a bit later, but the full discussion about it can still be found in the Discord server.
Name: John William Parker
Appearance
Bio: John was born in the Boston Dome to a family of farmers, but even early on he aspired for more. Unlike the other City Domes, the Boston Dome had limited military presence when it was first established. To mitigate, a militia division named the Minutemen (named for the historical militia of the same name) was created that allowed the recruitment of willing and able-bodied citizens. Those between the ages of 18 and 25 were required by City Law to serve a minimum of 3 years in the Minutemen, after which they were allowed to either discharge or stay on and be promoted to the regulars. John was no exception to this law, and enlisted in the Minutemen as soon as he was eligible, hoping it would lead him to something more than the life of a farmer.
In the Minutemen, there was a clear divide between the Militia and Regulars. The Regulars, being those who stayed on and proven to be reliable, were allowed access to the higher quality weaponry that even included a few Magitek weapons, while Minutemen were only allowed standard ballistic firearms. Still, John kept to his service to the letter. During his final year of required service, the Boston Dome came under attack. It seemed one of the Titans has wandered to the dome and was now trying to break through it. Thankfully the shields were usually able to hold back the Titan's power, and typically the Titan's programming would label it a waste of energy and the mechanical monster would simply move on to search for a new target. But while the shields were able to hold back the Titans, they would often weaken enough to allow smaller undesirables such as mutants to slip into the City Dome. That was what the Minutemen were typically called in for.
This time, they were joined by a few Regulars that happened to be in the area. The Regulars present were of the arrogant sort, however, and refused to stay by the side of the Minutemen. This resulted in them being overwhelmed a killed by surge of incoming mutants. The Minutemen may well have also been killed if not for John doing the unthinkable. He rushed to where the Regulars had fallen and scooped up their more advanced gear. With this, and his barely managing to keep the Minutemen line together they survived the fight and emerged victorious. But the damage had been done. John had used magitek gear that he was not legally allowed to use, and despite his heroic actions, the City Council voted for disciplinary actions to be taken. John was branded and banished from the City Dome, becoming one of the Exiled.
As one of the Exiled, there was little for John to aspire to. He had no choice but stay on the move, to wander the No Man's Land between the Domes for as long as he was able to survive. He learned a few things during this period, that in order to survive in the No Man's Land he would have to keep practicing and even master the use of Magitek and even Magic itself, as it was the only means he had of adequately defending himself against stray mutants or even other Exiled who thought he made for a tempting target. John would frequently explore the ruins of old Olympus or Yggdrasil facilities and scavenge for whatever was leftover that could expand his capabilities.
During one such exploration in a Yggdrasil facility, John discovered a rather intriguing weapon that the company code named "Project Mjolnir. What John found was unlike anything he'd ever encountered. It was some kind of melee weapon, shaped like a key of all things. According to the surviving research logs, Yggdrasil had discovered a Key-shaped weapon that they hypothesized came from another world, and that this facility was dedicated to researching the weapon and attempting to replicate it as much as possible. The weapon John had found was the result of that research, the original weapon was apparently lost time ago. Still, John took the "Keyblade" and claimed it for his own, having learned long ago to never look a gift horse in the mouth.
Age: 23
Skills: His time in the Minuteman provided John with least basic knowledge and training with most standard ballistic firearms. As an Exiled, however, John has since learned to cast a few spells but more importantly how to infuse mystical components into weapons or other equipment in order to "forge" Magitek gear. He's also experimented with the Keyblade and has since discovered how to alter its shape into the form of two revolvers, or again into the form of a shoulder-mounted artillery cannon. His time in the No Man's Land has taught him how to hunt and survive, and how to operate solo.
Spells
Blizzard -> Blizzara -> Blizzaga
Blizzagun (an ice shell that explodes into a hail of icy shrapnel, only usable with the Broadsider Cannon)
Deep Freeze (solidifies low level targets within an AOE, only usable with the Desperado Shooters)
Thunder -> Thundara -> Thundaga
Pulse Storm (an electrical sphere that explodes outward into an electrical EMP blast, only usable with the Broadsider Cannon)
Reflect -> Reflectga
Cure -> Cura
Esuna
Despite its appearance, Mjolnir is not an authentic Keyblade, but a weapon merely designed to mimic one as closely as possible. As such, it cannot be summoned like Keyblade, nor can it open locks or seal Keyholes. The Magitek nature of its design does still allow it channel spells and even achieve one of two prominent Formchanges:
Desperado Shooters: A pair of revolver-like handguns. They fire bullets of magical energy, but can also fire bullets that act as rapid-fire magical spells as well. Spellcasting is far faster and more rapid in this Formchange and some projectile spells can even home in on targets. However melee attacks are nonexistent and blocking incoming attacks is next to impossible without the use of defensive spells such as Reflect.
Broadsider Cannon: A shoulder-mounted artillery cannon. It's size allows it to be used for makeshift melee attacks against foes who get close, but its weight results in a slower swing. It's capable of firing much bigger spells than either the Shooters or Keyblade forms, but as a trade off these spells are often slower to fire. On the upside, the spells themselves end up covering wider areas of effect to mitigate the lack of precision.
Personality: In spite of all he's been through, John's still a nice enough guy. He can be overly cautious in some scenarios, sometimes his trust can be difficult to earn. But once earned, his trust is usually permanent and he becomes much more friendly and open to friends than he may appear to be at first. He's also very unique for an Exiled, as most of his kind are only ever in it for themselves, to keep alive or increase their own personal wealth or power. By complete contrast, John can be quick to offer his aid to others whenever he can. Something he kept with him from his time as one of the Minutemen, perhaps.
