G M (s): HenryJonesJr & Houd55 C O N S U L T I N G G M: Lord Wraith G E N R E: Fandom T Y P E: Sandbox with linear and Collaborative Arcs

I N T R O D U C T I O N:

Welcome fans of Marvel, DC and all comics alike. Absolute Comics is a sandbox based RP that seeks to merge and mix the lore of your favourite characters into one living cohesive world. The idea behind this RP is not to embody our favorite heroes to simply retell iconic stories and origins but to take these characters and make them our own. In fact, the goal of the RP is for players to take their favorite characters and re-imagine them to tell their own stories. We only ask that the 'heart' of the character remains the same. Players will take the roles of their characters and tell stories either alone or in collaboration with other players in order to develop and grow the world.

T H E C O N T I N U I N G S T O R Y:

The Age of Heroes has begun! Across the world, masked men and women have emerged from the shadows to protect peace and justice across the globe. But for every hero that emerges, a multitude of villains rise to challenge them.

In the first year of the new age, heroes began to test their abilities and fought against the rising darkness, culminating in a terrorist attack on multiple cities in the United States. Stryfe and the so-called Mutant Liberation Front released insanity-inducing nanobots. Normal citizens, driven mad by the malicious machines, began tearing one another apart. At the conclusion of the horrible event, Wonder Woman was framed by Stryfe, and Captain America executed the villain, forcing him into retirement.

In the time since, without Wonder Woman and Captain America to inspire the new generation of heroes, the world has become more dangerous. Nefarious forces have began to take the controls of power across the world, capitalizing on the fear of the unknown metahumans represent. SHIELD has become distrustful and has begun policing metahumans with more vigor. Young heroes such as Supergirl, Spider-Man, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have tried to gain a foothold in this dangerous new world, however. And heroes such as Blue Beetle and the Fantastic Four have tried to rehabilitate the superhero reputation across the world. Steve Rogers has also reappeared under the guise of Nomad, bringing the fight directly to the secret cabal attempting to manipulate world events.

Now, the world stands on the edge of the knife, and it is up to you to save it.

C O M M U N I C A T I O N:

All official discussion and announcements will happen through the OOC, however, for those who prefer a faster-paced place of discussion, or just enjoy getting to know your peers, the game also has a Discord Channel.

The Discord link can be found here.

RULES

  • All players will initially be allotted one Character Concept, to begin with. This concept may be any character from a main stream comic book. If applying as a 'Team Concept', a combination roster may be allowed at the scrutiny of the GM Team. Characters originally appearing in Manga or Anime are heavily discouraged because of their incompatibility with western superhero comics. We will judge all properties from outside of the Marvel and DC Universes on a case-by-case basis provided they fit the themes and tones of the game, but the above limitations are definitive.
  • We will grant a second character concept to players who demonstrate a commitment to the game and a consistent posting schedule.
  • Players can compete for characters if an application for your desired character is posted ahead of yours and has not yet been accepted. To compete for a character, you have a twenty-four-hour window to state your intent to compete. The GM Team will then judge the two competing applications.
  • In terms of character creation, you are free to overhaul and redesign any canon character from one of the aforementioned publishers. This means you can tell the story of the character how you believe it should be told. However, there is one major limitation, the heart and soul of the character must stay intact. The character should not be changed so much that they're unrecognizable. This means that Batman can't be a cold-blooded killer any more than Spider-Man can be a rich, well off playboy. Every aspect of the character that isn't a key to their major identity is malleable, this can even include sex and abilities if so desired.
  • Player characters are claimed on a first-come, first-serve basis. If the parent character (i.e. Batman to Robin), hasn’t been claimed, the legacy is just as available. If another player comes along and asks about playing the parent, it’s requested that both players be as accommodating as possible to allow the other to express their vision. It is understandable that sometimes two visions will not mesh, and in this case, we will give the player who came first precedence. If a GM needs to step in as a mediator or an arbiter, we can arrange this in a group PM.
  • The 'parent character' or 'acting parent characters' have a say in any further legacies being applied for. For instance, if you were playing Spider-Gwen, and another player applied as Ben Reilly, as the established 'parent' character, you could are able to voice if the concept compliments your own, or if you would rather the character not be accepted. The GMs will take this into consideration before moving further ahead with any legacy application.
  • Absolutely no 'OOC' chatter in the In Character Thread. If you have a question or anything to explain there is an Out Of Character Thread provided. You have no excuse to make an 'OOC' comment in the IC and if done it will be heavily frowned upon. If you require a more immediate answer, don't hesitate to directly ask the GM Team or relevant player in the Discord.
  • Writing expectations for this roleplay are at least two (2) well-developed paragraphs as a minimum per post. Three (3) to five (5) paragraph posts, however, would be awesome so long as you're not simply chewing the scenery. Proper spelling and grammar is also expected but small mistakes here and there are understandable. Blatant offences will be called out.
  • You are required to post at least once per character within a fourteen (14) day period. There will be a post-check-in, once per week performed by the GMs in order to ensure the IC is moving consistently. Extensions will be given in extenuating circumstances. Please recognize your limitations before joining the RP, if you are unable to post once every ten days, then it's highly likely that you do not have enough time to keep up with the RP. In the event that you do miss the deadline, your character will be listed as 'inactive'. After a further week of inactivity, your character will be expelled, and dealt with as necessary in the IC, whether killed or used as needed and then discarded. This whole process is simply easier if you just let the GM know if you're unable to keep up or simply have lost interest in the RP. If you find yourself in a plot with another player and they disappear, do your best to move on without them and quickly finish the arc to the best of your ability, or ask for the help of a GM.
  • This is a Character-Driven RP, and as such you are encouraged and expected to take charge of your character's sub-plots and storylines. There will be a heavy emphasis on collaborative activities and team building as well. The GMs will be leading the RP in the traditional sense with a driving plot and will ensure the RP keeps moving however we do want to see you develop your characters and produce your own plots. However, we don't want to see you lock your character out of interaction and focus solely on your character and their 'world'. No one enjoys watching you play with yourself, it's always better to let someone else join in on the fun.

"This isn't freedom. It's fear."

Steve Rogers is a man on the run. After being convinced to go back into action by fellow former-SHIELD agent Roy Harper, Steve found a young mutant girl being experimented on by a radical militia in Montana. The paper trail lead to a US Senator, with the possibility of more involved in the mysterious experiments. Now with the young girl named Rogue in tow, the former Captain America searches for how deep the conspiracy goes, and what the experiment was meant to achieve. But he will not be able to do it alone, and a group of old and new allies will rally around Steve Rogers in order to safe guard freedom and justice for all.

C H A R A C T E R M O T I V A T I O N S & G O A L S:

Steve Rogers is one of my favorite fictional characters, and has always been one of my favorite characters to play. But I've never played him as Nomad on the run from a corrupt SHIELD and trying to protect his new charge in Rogue. Steve will be torn by trying to unseat the corrupt and trying to be a good surrogate father for the girl. Plus, he will realize that the superheroes of the world need to come together or risk being picked off one-by-one.

C H A R A C T E R N O T E S:

The Outsiders

Anna Marie/Rogue - The teen girl that Steve rescued from the Church of Humanity, she now travels along with him. She is independent and can have a temper, but is often more reserved, preferring to spend time with Steve's dog Scout.
Sam Wilson/The Falcon - Grandson of one of Cap's original Howling Commandos.
Natasha Romanoff/The Black Widow - Another former member of Steve's team, Widow is torn on whether to stay with SHIELD or desert the one legitimate organization she has ever been a part of.
Rex Mason/Metamorpho - Coming soon

SHIELD

Nick Fury - One of the highest ranking members of SHIELD, and someone who still believes in Steve Rogers. After the death of his superior, however, Fury was passed over for leadership. Fury now is disillusioned by the shifting morals of SHIELD.
Alexander Pierce - The new head of SHIELD with a distrust of metahumans. Pierce believes that superheroes are more dangerous than they are helpful, and desires to restore a normal order to the world, with humans at the top of it.
Amanda "The Wall" Waller - Pierce's righthand woman in SHIELD.
Taskmaster - A SHIELD agent manipulated by Hydra's machinations

Enemies

Hydra - The former Nazi, and now terrorist, organization that Steve believed he had destroyed at the end of WWII. Hydra has now returned with unknown motivations and leadership, but just as dangerous as ever.
Wolfgang von Strucker - The assumed leader of Hydra
The Winter Soldier - A mysterious assassin that is said to have appeared throughout history to kill Hydra's enemies.
Crossbones - A dangerous mercenary in the employ of Hydra

"We strike hard and fade into the night."

One deep, dark night in Japan, hundreds of years ago, a fearful warrior known as Oroku Saki was defeated. His dream of a shadow empire in Japan, controlled by his Foot Clan behind a puppet regime, was smashed by the emergence of the Tokugawa shogunate. But Saki, known as the Shuredda, was shrewd. He had plans should his plans fail. He disappeared from the world, while the Foot found a new place in the world, where it waited for the perfect time to reemerge.

On another night fifteen years ago in a rainy, busy New York City, a canister of chemicals labelled "TCRI" fell from a truck and shattered on the street. The oozing, glowing liquid inside washed down a sewer grate and into the sewers below. When it did, it came into contact with a rat and four baby turtles. The ooze coated them, and as it did, it began to rewrite their genetic code. It gave them human-like forms and intelligence. The rat, known as Splinter, being much older than the turtles, took on his role as their adoptive father. He named them from a book he found on famous painters. Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo were his world. The rat had memories of his life before the mutation, even if they were faint. From these memories, he trained his children in the ways of ninjutsu, in preparation for a threat he did not recall.

Five years later, the small, weird family was above ground, in the city, scavenging for food. While they did so, a van full of men attempted to take the turtles. Splinter and the boys were able to fight them off, but they were shaken and kept to the sewers unless absolutely necessary from then on. While the family became insular, they did eventually take in a mutated arctic fox named Alopex, who had no idea of her origin.

Eventually, more mutants in the city were located, led by alley cat Old Hob. This group, who called themselves the Mutanimal Liberation Army, was dedicated to protecting mutants from humans. Alopex, swayed by their cause and feeling like an outsider in the family, joined with the Mutanimals.

After failing to stop the return of Oroku Saki, aka the Shredder, and his Foot Clan, the Turtles are now set for their most dangerous altercations ever. Branded as dangerous by the people of the surface, they must stop Saki before he enacts his plan for world domination while also trying to clear their good names!

C H A R A C T E R M O T I V A T I O N S & G O A L S:

I mean, I *always* want to play the TMNT. But basically we seem to (hopefully) have a stable game going, and I want to try it again. I've always wanted to tell the story in a One Universe game, have them interacting with Batman, Spider-Man, etc. I want to tell the definitive Turtles story, melding different parts of their different iterations.

"Oorah!"

Frank Castle remembers clearly the day the Towers fell. The horror and destruction was forever ingrained in his memory.

Frank Castle remembers clearly the day of his eighteenth birthday, the military recruiter's nod of respect as he enlisted. The sense of pride forever ingrained in his memory.

Sixteen years ago, Frank joined the United States Marine Corps to serve his country following the War on Terror. After graduating from a Scout Sniper School in 2006, he briefly served in an intelligence-gathering role before being drawn into the newly established Marine Corps Special Operations Command. After a dozen years of service, Staff Sergeant Castle was not only highly decorated but held the record for most confirmed sniper kills in the entire Corps. As a result, Frank, and subsequently his platoon, were the subject of near legend - myths of his status only enhanced due to his classified missions - earning both the respect of fellow marines as well as the attention of his superiors.

Alongside his military career, Castle was a family man. Having met his future-wife in 2009, marrying two years later, and extending their family in both 2013 and 2016 with a girl and boy respectively. By late 2018, as far as Frank was concerned, he had it all, and he was happy. He was even considering retiring after a few more years to spend more time with his family.

Then, Major G.W. Bridge entered Frank's life. Approaching him while stationed overseas, the major offered Castle a chance to apply for a new, highly classified and elite position in the U.S. military. Although Frank didn't know what this entailed, after being informed it would involve him stateside more often than not, he accepted.

The U.S. government, frustrated by the United Nations' SHIELD and its control over an American patriot and asset, put forth a new program to find a replacement. Castle, alongside several other candidates from various military branches and intelligence agencies, spent a year in this program undergoing special training and tests. Finally, just two months ago, Frank was accepted into the role and immediately promoted to the rank of captain.

And, not a moment too soon as recent events have thrust operational plans forward, Frank's predecessor having relinquished the role after a televised and brutal battle that resulted in the so-called murder of a domestic terrorist. Just several months later, Frank Castle would make his debut as the latest U.S. agent of patriotism:

Captain America.

C H A R A C T E R M O T I V A T I O N S & G O A L S:

I think it was five years ago that I first joked about the idea of Captain Castle/Punisher America. I remember being told it was stupid and made no sense. The more I joked about it, the more I saw value in the concept. And, more importantly, the more it annoyed Mike. So I guess you could say I'm doing this to continue that tradition. Also, because Byrd dared me to. There can be no better reasons to roleplay than this.

For this RP, I do plan on changing how I go about things somewhat. Shorter adventures that, while linked together through a shared narrative, will keep me from playing with myself in an isolated corner instead of participating in the world as a whole. I'm going to be open to collabs and crossovers more than ever before, and plan to incorporate at least one after every two or so of my shorter, self-contained adventures. I want to fully integrate into the game this go-around, and what better character to do that with than Captain America.

C H A R A C T E R N O T E S:

The following is a list of the various characters I intend to use and incorporate, to some degree, in my story.

The rogues/antagonists section is to express my claim on certain characters important to my narrative. Be aware, reading it will spoil some future plots to an extent. It'll be updated with info on the characters once they are introduced. Unless you're trying to use some Cap/Punisher foes, I'd recommend avoiding reading that portion so you can enjoy things more, but your choice.

To be updated as needed.

I’ll have a revamped version of Kara up soon, presuming there is no one contesting it nor a person who is returning to the character.

C H A R A C T E R C O N C E P T P R O P O S A L

C H A R A C T E R C O N C E P T:

“I'm here to help. You can count on me.”

The planet Linda Lee-Anne Danvers was originally born on was known as Krypton, a planet that was on the verge of collapse. Her name was Kara.

Her father, Zor-El, was a scientist who had been attempting to prepare a route to safely save his species but even through his support by his brother, Jor-El, they found themselves at an impassable point as the ruling government of Krypton continued to deny that their planet was dying. When the final days finally reared their head, Krypton was in chaos, but the two brothers found themselves realizing the dark reality of the situation – they may have been able to procure enough illegal resources to build their escape but as the planet was caving in around them they only found enough time to save their children and not themselves.

Unfortunately, Kara and her cousin’s journey to their destination was not as idyllic as their parents would’ve hoped. A large interstellar anomaly interfered with the accuracy of the spacecraft’s navigation systems – though it could’ve been much, much worse. Avoiding being trapped in the storm for several light years, Kara’s pod soon approached the planet Earth, though she wouldn’t be awake to witness her abrupt, violent landing. When she came to she found herself in a room she did not recognize with a bandage on her head. The words her father spoke to her on Krypton became clouded and hard to remember; she didn’t even remember her name. Despite an immense language barrier between her and the woman who found her, she found herself less alone. She was eight years old.

Her appearance in the woods of western Delaware, as weird as it was, ended up being what saved her from a lifetime of scientific experimentation, military ownership, and indoctrination. The woman who she had locked eyes with upon waking had been a retired physician. Despite not knowing English, she began her recovery with her and her husband. These two people ended up becoming who she would come to call her parents. Eventually, the two came up with a name for Kara until she could remember her own. From the age of eight onward, Kara’s life became a topic of confusion for her. The memories of her old life, her birth parents, and her mission was clouded, only ever coming to her in her dreams and nightmares. For the longest time she could not remember Krypton, though she never had any long-lasting allusions that she was normal. By nine years old she was climbing the tallest tree in the Redden State Forest; by twelve she was running faster than any automobile or train she had ever seen. She could feel her powers growing and at first she thought she was a “mutant”. Her father refused to let the notion scare her and told her while there was nothing wrong with being a metahuman that she wasn’t one. It was a strange conversation hearing about her “pod” and how she came down from outer space, but as she heard it the more it made sense.

It made more sense as she visited the “pod” that her father had kept hidden away in an abandoned silo near his property. Slowly, in her senior year at Midvale High School, she began piecing things together. Eventually, her name came back to her and found herself traveling across the world to find more answers. Perhaps in the process she would find a way to balance college and protecting people with her abilities.

Which is sort of how she got involved in a variety of things since she started college at the University of Metropolis. The Press has taken to calling her Superwoman (or Supergirl if you’re a critic), and ultimately Kara is juggling a lot. There’s a lot more to come her way.

C H A R A C T E R M O T I V A T I O N S & G O A L S:

In Season One of Absolute Comics I said that I wanted to work out the Supergirl stories I have had in my head for a few years now, but for one reason or another I failed to be either active or find the right opportunity to do so. Despite certain setbacks, I'm back again to continue where I left off. Roughly with some changes.

THE GREEN LANTERN CORPS

HAL JORDAN JESSICA CRUZ KILOWOG SINESTRO
C H A R A C T E R C O N C E P T:

Billions of years ago the universe was a dark, violent place. The New Gods, the Eternals, the Kree, and the Kryptonians and a dozen other worlds were engaged in a murky multi-sided war that never ended. Whole planets were destroyed for the purposes of strategy, whole races wiped out in the name of peace.

After nearly a million years of war, an armistice finally arrived. Both sides met on the planet Oa, center of the known universe, and began peace talks mediated by the native Oans, a race well-regarded for their neutrality during the great war. A century of negotiations finally led to peace on all sides and the creation of a peacekeeping organization. This force, independent of any planet or intergalactic government, would be responsible for enforcing both the peace of the universe and the terms of the war treaty. The Oans were proclaimed the guardians and overseers of this force. With the harnessing of a simple ring dependent upon the user’s force of will and ability to deal with fear, the Green Lantern Corps was born.

In the present day, the Corps operates throughout the universe with thousands of “Lanterns” in thousands of sectors of space. They are equal parts warrior, law enforcement, and diplomat. From dismantling slave rings to conducting high-stakes mediation, the Corps continues to uphold the peace and security of the universe independent of the great universal powers. But being independent does not mean that they are without their own agenda and their own goals.

C H A R A C T E R M O T I V A T I O N S & G O A L S:

I want to turn the GLC into a more hardcore organization, more martial than it's been in the past. Instead of the waves and waves of redshirts that the GLC is in the comics, I want each Lantern to be a potential force of destruction on their own. I've been reading a history on the Texas Rangers recently and I am really seeking inspiration in the idea of doing the GLC as a space western. They'll act as a combo of Texas Rangers and space marines. Peacekeepers who are trained to handle countless functions and scenarios, but they serve nobody's agenda but their own. They are powerful enough that they are essentially a political force unto themselves. They're going to be scarier and more aloof, and more powerful. In this version of space, you got guys like Thanos and Galactus and Annihilus running around so they need to be beefed up to keep them in check.

C H A R A C T E R N O T E S:

Hal Jordan -- "Mad, bad, and dangerous to know."
Sinestro -- "Whatever exists without my knowledge, exists without my consent."
Jessica Cruz -- "I just don't want to be killed for lack of shooting back."
Guy Gardner -- "Go west, young man."
Kilowog -- "You gotta hit 'em to hurt 'em."
Salaak -- "In the hands of politicians, grand designs achieve nothing but new forms of the old misery."

Scylla
Sector 2814

Quarra rubbed his insectoid hands together, all three of his eyes glancing towards the sky. He chirped nervously and checked the time once more. The Lanterns were due to arrive any moment now. He stood on the mesa that overlooked the Maw, a vast chasm that went nearly forty miles below the planet’s surface. Down at the bottom of the Maw was Scylla’s worst penal institution, the Madn N. Zondar Memorial Learning & Rehabilitation Center. No learning or actual rehabilitation took place at the bottom of the Maw. In Scylla’s native language, words would occasionally have the opposite meaning of their true purpose. It’s why Remul Sewage Water was the name of the best selling soda on the planet, and the name brand Healthy Water was the finest toilet declogger this side of the galaxy. It was also why The Zondar was not a place for growth and change, but instead of beatings and confinements.

The worst of the worst Scylla and her neighboring planets had to offer were down at the bottom of that chasm. Rapist and murderers along with political radicals and enemies of the state. The Zondar was a powderkeg of violence and anarchy. And now some dumb son of a bitch had lit the fuse.

Quarra shielded his eyes when he saw the light. It was a tiny dot of emerald at first, but then it began to rapidly expand and expand, glowing so brightly that he had to turn away lest he be blinded by it. There was a hum of energy to accompany the light, loud enough that Quarr now had to cover his ears. The hum vibrated his exoskeleton as it built to a crescendo. Finally, a small pop echoed across the mesa and the light and hum disappeared.

“You the guy I’m supposed to meet?”

When he looked towards where the light had been, he found a Lantern. He was tall, taller than Quarra by nearly six inches, and an alien type he couldn’t quite place. Mammal-like with two arms and two legs and dark hair on the top of his head. He wore some kind of uniform, metal body armor that was painted black and emerald. Prominently on his chest plate was the logo known across the universe as the Corps’ brand.

“I am,” Quarra finally said. “You’re a Lantern?”

“Hal Jordan of Earth, Sector 2814.”

His eyes drifted down towards the Earthlings right hand. He saw the ring there and swallowed hard. The thing seemed to smolder with energy, a smoldering that could turn into an inferno if the Lantern so desired. Quarra looked away from it and back towards the Earthling’s eyes.

“It’s down in the Maw,” he finally said. “There’s a prison down there at the bottom. For the past three days a riot has been consuming the place. There’s nearly a million criminals inside the building and they’ve taken control of it, taken the nearly one hundred thousand staff members hostage. Our peacekeepers and military are too worried about the hostages to go in there, so the planetary government requested help from your people to put the riot down before they can get to the surface and attempt a revolution.”

Jordan nodded and looked across the mesa towards the pit. His eyes seemed to glaze over before a green glow began to shimmer in them. Quarra took an instinctive step back when he saw a film of emerald energy cover the man’s body. He began to levitate from the ground before flying across the surface of the mesa towards the Maw.

“Wait!” he cried. “Didn’t you hear what I said? There’s over a million men down there. Men with weapons and bombs. You’re only one Lantern.”

“And there's only one riot,” said Jordan without stopping.

Quarra watched in stunned silence as he flew across the mesa and down into the darkness of the Maw, a green tail of energy following in his wake.

This just makes me think of Man-At-Arms. And makes me want to do a He-Man/Thundercats crossover.

Quick! Someone apply as Sonic for this universe's Flash!

Also, don't feel like you need to use DC characters if you're not familiar with them. You can stick to Marvel properties if that's where your comfort is.

Yea, and if you're more comfortable with an Indy character you were interested in, don't be too intimidated by me saying I'll give them more scrutiny. As long as the application is written well and you show a grasp of where you want to take that character
