the second one sounds simpler but fleshing out tiers of magic is a lot of work and can be a game killer, wouldnt bother with it too much fr fr

If we want to make it really simple, we just say:

Every 10 levels you gain access to a new tier.
There are a total of 12 tiers of magic.

Lvl 1-10 = 1st Tier
Lvl 11-20 = 2nd Tier
Lvl 21-30 = 3rd Tier
Lvl 31-40 = 4th Tier
Lvl 41-50 = 5th Tier
Lvl 51-60 = 6th Tier
Lvl 61-70 = 7th Tier
Lvl 71-80 = 8th Tier
Lvl 81-90 = 9th Tier
Lvl 91-100 = 10th Tier
Lvl 101-110 = 11th Tier
Lvl 111-120 = 12 Tier

And use the various spells and stuff from D&D as a reference. Like, something on par with Magic Missile being 1st tier, while Lightning Bolt is 3rd Tier and Finger of Death is 7th~8th Tier.
That way, people can easily check themselves and see if their spells are appropriate for their current level.

I wanted to double check on the magic / skills thing, since it's coming up...

So, magic either comes from Intellect or from Will, right?

Fluffwise, what count as skills? Are we talking about general things a person is good at (leadership, negotiation, thievery, etc) or are we talking about special abilities / attacks with a name?

As an example, let's say I wanted my character to have special anime sword attacks. Is that just represented by a higher sword skill, or does my character get specific skills akin to how a mage gets specific spells?

Finally, would you be averse to some sort of "leadership magic" effects? Like a bard's music, or some sort of heroic shouts that inspire people around them?

do we write a backstory for both the native body and the actual character pre isekai?

Pretty sure we're playing as natives to the isekai world rather than the isekai'd.

@Reia
Skills, in this setting, refer to special attacks, moves or abilities that one can use. It primarily refers to thigs like big, anim-esque named attacks or D&D related activated abilities, but there are also passive skills like swordplay, diplomacy, intimidation, etc. So, when you list skills, if the skill is a passive one, please specify that.

Bards, Clerics, Priests, Paladins, all of them can cast "buff" magic, which can have multiple effects on those around them. So yes, things like inspiring others, removing fear, raising focus or concentration, they're all there and available to anyone who wants them.

@OwO
You're filthy natives, brah. You only write the backstory for how things were for you while growing up in the fantasy world.

@PigeonOfAstora
This is correct. You lot are playing as the dirty, unwashed natives of the fantasy world, you're not people who got isekai'd from the VRMMO.

EDIT:

I will try to have the finished OOC up by this Friday (21st), but if not, then it should be ready sometikme during the weekend.

Hah, nice to see some characters popping up.
Just a pointer though, Afro.

The 'Profession' section refers more to a second-hand or alternatuve set of skills that are more focused on support, production or manufacturing.

If we use World of Warcraft as an example, you have the main Classes like Warrior, Rogue, Mage and so on, but each player can also choose two professions or talents in addition to their class.

These include things like Blacksmithing, Mining, Herbalism, Alchemy, Tailoring, Enchanting, Leatherworking and even Cooking and First Aid. Basically, the Profession-part in the CS isn't meant to state what your character's actual "job" is in the world, like if you're a Royal Guard or Military Commander or Skullery Maid, it's meant to denote any additional and useful vocation or craft you practice alongside your main RPG Class/Job.

Of course, I guess an Assassin could be a sort of Profession, in the sense of maybe an alchemist-blacksmith hybrid who fcouses on making poisons and/or concealed weaponry and such... Iunno. Just thought I'd bring it up to clarify, in case there were any misconceptions.

I'd be interested in applying as a Sniper-in-training (imagine Hawkeye Gough) who's so dedicated to mastering Archery to such a degree, she's a literal klutz at everything unrelated, and a bit of an airhead when not in combat.

I'm curious, are we bound to a "Humanoid" Race? I saw something about Goblins being poorly received for obvious reason, which got be wondering if I could be a Tengu or a Drider or some non-conventional Monster Race?

No, you cannot. Explicitly monster-like monster races would get attacked as soon as they apporached any humanoid settlement. Driders, Lamia, Cyclopi, Hapries and so on are not eligible races to play as.

Stick to humanoid and two legs, thank you. ^^
