Introduction

For centuries, the bottom of the Abyss has been shrouded in mystery, fear, and superstition. Built on the ancient bones of the once fledgling start of man, the Abyss is said to house the strangest and most vile creatures. Long has legend passed of its murky depths to the unknown, when now the darkness below serves as a prison for beings small and large who dare to commit heinous crimes against man. Ages passed, the great kingdom of man expanded, and soon it was the continent of Altfare that saw host to reside above the Abyss’ deep cages of imprisonment.

Even now the people go about their days in the light, happy and ignorant, as they waged their blood wars amongst each other. But the Abyss has waited in patience, welcoming those cast down and locked up to damnation with soothing arms only the darkness can provide. There is no law, no jurisdiction in the Abyss. None are innocent, but all seek a way to escape, be it by power, schemes, or debauchery. Long have the denizens in the deep depths plotted, and long have they lived.

Their long exile would not go unanswered. Something is stirring on the surface. A great power or perhaps war has shaken the very earth above the Abyss. Less and less prisoners are brought in and whatever guards dared to safeguard these ports of hellish intent have all but fled or been disposed of. The prisons are opening. The inmates are escaping. And the nightmares are festering back to the surface in a strange new world rocked by the Catastrophe. Revenge is infectious.

All those cursed for eternity within the Abyss seek nothing less than to conquer the world above. Factions are forming, allies, cutthroat as they may be, are gathering, and the promise of becoming Alfare’s new overlord is enough to entice and seduce those who’ve suffered far enough. To what ends will revenge and hatred for the kingdom of man carry? To what shall be conquered before they reach the top? Questions abound in the coming days but one indistinguishable truth is known both to the Abyss and to the hapless victims above.

It’s a long climb up from the deep, dark depths.

Setting
A great Catastrophe has struck the land of Altfare, leaving in its wake chaos and destruction among the proud domain of humans. Out of sight and sound lays the Abyss, the great prison said to hold beasts and monsters who would finer feast on the flesh of their captors; or worse. Unbeknownst to the world of man, the prisons of the Abyss are shattering one by one in the Catastrophe’s wake. The time to escape and enact revenge is now, for none could be more perfect for your onslaught of despair above the surface.

Within the RP, players will be in control of such foul nightmares as they journey from the depths of the Abyss to the top and reach the land of Altfare. There are many trials to overcome, monsters to face, and legions to take command over as the very Abyss itself becomes your grounds for conquering. These depths attract all sorts of personalities, but all share the simple hatred of those who imprisoned them, and it is this darkness that drives them toward the surface.

As each segment of the Abyss falls to your gathering forces, your number will grow into a new force, a singular faction based upon the human concept of guilds in mockery; one unseen by the world waiting to be unleashed. Will you breech the surface ready to take what is rightfully yours? Or are you destined to be slain as you stand, body and soul cast back into the Abyss that desires to claim you again? Whatever may befall you, whatever faction you build in your rise to power, there is no doubt only mayhem lies in your presence.

You are the monsters who go bump in the night.

TL:DR: It's basically Overlord+Fire Emblem.

Characters

CHARACTER SHEET TEMPLATE
• Appearance: Self-explanatory. Please use relatively anime/art images since this is still a weeby RP. As ex-prisoners to the Abyss, you are monsters that come in all shapes and forms. You may have a true appearance and a casual one if you intend to disguise yourself in interaction among humans.
• Title: Self-explanatory. What title do the humans use as they curse and fear you?
• True Name: Self-explanatory. What name do you reveal only to your closest associates and allies?
• Age: Self-explanatory. The Abyss has remained for eons and so too has some of its inhabits.
• Species: Only monsters are cast into the pits of the Abyss; the range of which to be is endless, but the rule is no humans for obvious reasons.
• Weapons: What weaponry adorns your form? What do you use to strike your enemies?
• Species Traits: As different species reside within the Abyss, so too do they have special powers inherited only by their species. Two each are allowed to each player for now.
• Special Abilities: Magic has existed in the world just as long as the Abyss. If you've learned the arcane arts over the years, then this is where to make it known. One brand of magic is allowed to each player for now with two special abilities to them if you so choose.
• Inventory: Any items that's aren't mentioned prior you may be carrying. They may come in handy at any time.
• Background: A quick summary of your character thus far. Why were they imprisoned in the Abyss? What drives them towards revenge? What plans do they have for future conquering? These are points that should be addressed in your background.
• Other: Optional. Anything else not mentioned above that you may wish to add goes here.

• Appearance:

• Title: The White Rider, The Conqueror

• True Name: The Pretender

• Age: As old as humanity

• Species: Fallen Angel/Horseman of the Apocalypse

• Weapons: Bow

• Species Traits: The Horseman speak with a thunderous voice that will make the weak-willed tremble. In addition, the horseman are able to bless those faithful and loyal. Currently, his blessings are rather weak and minor, imparting only a bit of luck and health upon the blessed. However, as his number of believers and followers grow, his blessings and powers as a whole will rise as well.

• Special Abilities:

Pestilence: The White Rider is able to imbue its attacks with the disease, Consumption. It is particularly harmful to human and human like beings though less so for more distant species of beings.

Whispers: The Pretender is able to directly speak into the mind of a mortal and amplify their fears, anxiety, and doubts like a mental parasite, making the weak willed or the mentally unstable quite vulnerable to his suggestions while the resolute are likely be able to resist though find themselves questioning things a bit more often.

• Inventory: White Horse, Quiver of Arrows N/A

• Background: The Pretender, at one point in time, was worshiped among mankind. Yet, he was not a blindly generous god, angel or spirit who only bestowed blessings upon his followers. Mankind was and still is full of avarice, hate, gluttony, and many sins that could not be overlooked. The folly of mankind had to be punished so that they may learn and grow. Thus, in its divine wisdom, the Pretender made mankind know fear. He whispered terrible thoughts into the minds of Kings so that they would continue to hoard their material wealth within the safety of their castles while the people starved and were ravaged by plague. The Pretender was disgusted at how easily man fell for the most deepest, unreasonable fears that lurked in their heads. He never planted these thoughts into their heads... and for acting on them, the Pretender had to punish them so that they would see the error in their ways. The Kingdom would often tear itself apart to the brink, but in its ashes... a more balanced harmony would take hold. The Pretender was a strict and harsh mentor and guide of mankind, but never one to wantonly cause destruction, pain, and misery. He always had a purpose.

Yet, there were others, some call them gods, or heroes who worked to remove all "evil" in the world. To the Pretender, they were nothing more than diabolical snakes that promised mankind a false paradise as long as they worshiped the correct idols who would guide them to an eternal paradise on Altfare. Yet, the children of mankind fell for those honeyed lies. Thus, the Pretender was driven off to the abyss.

The Pretender now rides forward to reclaim his rightful place as a stern guiding figure for man... They had missed centuries of lessons during which they had forgotten the taste of their bitter medicine. Now, he planned to restart his lessons, not with mere war, but conquest.

Just to clarify, but does her Blood Calling Charm extend to all creatures with blood or just humans?

@Heyitsjiwon

I would like more detail provided for his Special Abilities. For example, does his Pestilence affect all mortals or just humans?

In any case, the question of roles and who will do what should be considered for everyone. Seeing as your characters are all lumped in the same place and guild now, the question of who's the leader is one to consider among yourselves.

Your character is ok with me as soon as you adress @TheWindel's question.

@Heyitsjiwon

In addition to @TheWindel's questions, explaining what kinds of blessings he gives to those who follow him would be good. It doesn't need to be exceedingly detailed just the gist of what it does like: "Bless them with good luck, or bless their skill at arms, etc."

Heyo, for the special abilities, I was thinking along the lines of being able to eventually make different illnesses depending on the race after getting stronger/later in the RP, but for the beginning I was thinking of an illness that can affect everyone, but affects humans/human like beings the most. The analogy that I have in mind is cowpox, a pretty bad disease for certain animals, but pretty mild for humans and other creatures like birds. But in this case, the illness would be more harmful for humans and be less harmful the less human-like the being is.

For the whispers ability, it's more of a mind virus kind of concept where the Pretender attempts to spread doubt, fear, and anxiety in the mind of a sentient being. Course, some people are more resistant/prone to this.

As for the blessing, I intended on making it very simple and weak early on. As you mentioned, its essentially a make them a little bit more lucky and a little bit healthier kind of deal. Later on, it could be more powerful like making them amazing at archery, but not in the beginning.

Personally, I was thinking about making the Pretender's power scale with the number of believers/followers he has.

Let me know if there's anything else that I can clarify/change!

The intent was all blood; with reasoning any blood is still blood. I have no problem with just humans, as that would be the intended target; if you prefer it that way.

Seeing as she's a vampire and their correlation to humans, let's say it works only for them for now; it has possibility of being upgraded later down the line. Aside from that, she's accepted by me. You're good to place her into the Character Tab after the edit to her blood ability.

This is fine. Were you thinking of an actual named disease for humans or just something generic with the symptoms?

This is also fine; just be sure to mark it down in his CS.

In other news, a poll should be made what the name of your dark guild will be. Among roles and whatnot.

With how you have Beguiling Light described, is it more of an illusion-based ability or is it more offensive? You make mention of his spear attacking with it so just making sure to clarify if it can do both. As for his background, the gods cast him down, yes?

Might make a fallen angel of death. That or an eldritch horror, although the Pretender seems to cover that somewhat with it's causation of fear and whatnot.

We do currently have a Fallen Angel already, if that helps narrow things down.

It does somewhat, although not knowing which god specifically cast down beings like the Pretender into the Abyss makes writing lore a bit tricky. I mean I assume the gods were the one's who threw all of our characters down there to begin with.

Not necessarily. Most of the time it's humans who cast people into the Abyss. As for the Pretender, I read it as implication that it was heroes/humans who did the actual casting instead of gods. Was that actually the case, @Heyitsjiwon?
