It's more the issue that, consistently, almost every post Enkryption has made for Chuuni has received a comment like this. It's hard not to get the impression that its mean-spirited.
I really don't see what you see in this context.
If a Chuunitrix post impacts people that way... doesn't that mean Enkryption is doing a good job writing the character? Everyone loved to hate on Prince Geoffrey from GoT too when it started airing, but the actor that portrayed him nailed it imo.
I get a similar vibe from Chuuni, where she's a flawed, self-centered, and sometimes awful character that I like reading about precisely because Enkryption does a good job of making Chuuni believable and interesting.
I should probably chime in. I don't, honestly, know what I can and cannot say. But, I'll try...
TL;DR: Show, not tell. It's not an easy task as a writer, but there's a reason, if you remember that there should be one.
Let's just try to balance the focus of Chuunitrixx's posts, because I can see where everyone is coming from, but focusing on only the negative aspects and not the reasons behind them is only going to make them stand out negatively.
And, that, will only lead to infighting and dropouts.
Chuunitrixx is a not a character that is meant to be easy to get along with. That was always the intention, due to her character arc and the underlying reason she is so hyper-aggressive with certain character traits; like her ego, her place, and her purpose are all feed by her Hivequeen Racial, a Royal Insect that stands at the Apex of the Insectoid Hierarchy. Her unstable emotional range is a victimization of her emotions from her 10 Levels in Doppelganger and 5 Levels in Greater Doppelganger; that's 15 individual mindsets, added one her single Levels in Automaton, Homunculus, and Mimic for a total of 19 minds all working in unison, but capable of individual thoughts, emotions, and feelings.
But, Chuunitrixx is about showing, not telling; all writing is. So, Chuunitrixx shows her emotions to that which has befallen her.
She was prideful, deflective, in the introduction, when she realized, they weren't NPC Ruled; she was embarrassed, and she deflected that to telling everyone her first free thoughts -- no longer bound to repeated dialogues.
I'll address the three events that Chuunitrixx does:
In Flan's Kitchen, she was exhausted, offended, and didn't want to deal with Flan or Mamoru. In her mind, she was just eating in a communal area, and Mamoru instigated Flan into threatening Chuunitrixx, whereas Flan could have asked if Chuunitrixx was hungry, and offered her food, instead of following Mamoru up, and pulling a knife on a Chapter Keeper. Should Chuunitrixx not be offended by that, let that slide, and smile? No. Not really. It was an insult to her and her position, her power, and common sense that she would be denied a meal, because Mamoru riled up Flan, instead of Flan acting on her own senses as the Chef.
Graft is a complex issue of Chuunitrixx coming into terms of her own power with her Reproductive Capability skill, and how much effort it takes to create life on her own terms, whereas, someone like Graft just does it as an impersonal, clinical science and discards the failures. To learn that he had knowledge of her Ascendants meant he had something else to run through that same mindset and impersonality... and, potentially discard carelessly as a failure. That isn't someone her pride and maternal instincts could handle, and she went to the farest end of protecting the eggs. It's irrational, yes, but, at the same time, she's not completely rational, either; she's instinct and impulse, because this isn't "combat" she understands. Could she have handled it differently, of course, but she panicked, and acted.
Kaldorna was Chuunitrixx attempting to put herself out there, and create an alliance with one of those that is supposedly supposed to be her ally. Instead of Kaldorna attempting to meet her halfway, she turned her down outright with needless chastising; Chuunitrixx would have accepted the denial, base, but Kaldorna went the extra mile to paint Chuunitrixx as someone to attempt to jockey for secret police, when she was seeking an open peacekeeping force. Simply wanting bodies to go around the area and make sure everyone was alright, being nice, and keeping general safety. They can't live under the idea that Rodias will protect them from everything that is, and having a mobilized police force would greatly help their future. Kaldorna dismissed her, a Chapter Keeper, as a mere Facility Manager, and came off high and mighty. Just what else should she feel but anger, as she attempted to be more than reasonable, open, and was slapped in the face for her efforts?
And, as a bonus, Chuunitrixx makes mentions of seeming insignificant with her minions.
Let's just list everyone that has "minions": Chuunitrixx, Graft, Mamoru (through Clone and Butlers), Bone Daddy, Gromgard, Lord Chompy Bits, Ashara, Kaldorna, Salem, Isolde, and Flan (on technicality of fetcher blobs)
And, those that don't: Kath, Violet, Talim, Charme, Zouyu, and Light.
11 vs 6..
So, is it really a crime for her to feel insignificant after coming to sentience, feeling herself special, her minions special, and her station special, only to realize, after a few days, there nine others that can replace you, because you're one of eleven with the same minion-controlling build/skill? To feel angry that your significance is easy to find one every floor and all over the grounds?
It's jealousy that she isn't as special as she was, when she was an NPC, and, in her world, there was no other like her, because that's how special she was. Like I said, Chuunitrixx was a different person before an event long before the isekai even occurred. We'll get there. I hope.
Unrelated note: I have some good news and bad news.
Bad news: Just got a late night text from my boss that I've been promoted! And I will be managing an active dumpster fire a new department. Workload in the next few weeks is going to be really fucking intense, and I may need to drop from this RP. .-. ....need a drink too
Congrats on the promotion! I doubt you’ll need to drop though, the RP has a fairly chill pace, but even if you do I’m sure something can be worked out. Regardless, I’ll pour one out for our homie moving up in the world.
I should also take a moment to clarify my stance on Chuunitrixx:
I, personally, do not like Chnunitrixx, as a person. I don't like her personality and behavior, her "justificaiton" for her actions and her way of thinking and interacting. This is, however, just a matter of personal preference.
I do not think Chuunitrixx is a bad character though. She has many flaws and issues to work through and is most assuredly not a Mary-Sue or a regular run-of-the-mill-perfect-from-the-start-to-finish-character (unlike Ashara...). She has plenty of room to grow and evolve, change and many possible paths that she can possibly take.
Chuunitrixx is a much more well-written and well-thought out character than any of the ones I'm currently playing as myself, and has had a lot more detail, thought and planning gone into her. She's probably one of the more engaged and well-done characters of this roleplay. So please don't ever think that I'm bashing or raving on Chuunitrixx because I think she's a bad character, because she's not - she's actually a very solid character.
The problem is that I just happen to have a lot of pet-peeves when it comes to character-traits, and sadly, Chuunitrixx has very many of those pet-peeves in her. Pride, arrogance, dismissal, selfishness, envy, megalomania, superiority-complex, tsundere-tendencies... The list goes on. Suffice to say, Chuunitrixx just happens to have a lot of characteristics and personality-traits that I don't like. It's not the same as with Joffrey from Game of Thrones, as Burning suggested, because I don't love to hate Chuunitrixx.
And unless severe changes to her personality and demeanor occur, I probably won't like her for most of the RP. BUT TTHAT'S OKAY! Chuunitrixx doesn't exist to be liked by me, she's here because that's the character Enkrypt wanted to play as. Nobody should need to feel like they have to justify or explain their character and their motives - unless they royally fudged up - to others. So I apologize profusely, Enkryption, it wasn't my intention or desire to make you feel like I was shitting all over Chuunitrixx because I didn't understand or get her... Well.. Actually, I don't really get her or understand her, but that's not the reason why I was being a total jerk-wad! D:
So, in the future, if I make snide remarks or seem to be a dick, please don't think it's because I think your character(s) are bad or poorly done. They likely just have traits or personalities that rub me the wrong way, and I happen to have a big mouth which my foot more often than not gets stuck in. And if you ever feel that I'm being unjust or unfair to your character, please, feel free to shoot me a PM or VM or something, and slap my face for being the douche that I am.
..-
Also, FYI; I'm actually suffering form buyer's regret about swapping Silke for Ashara tbh... ;(
@BurningDaisies Congratulations(?) I hope things work out for you so that you won't hafta leave. :<
If you wanna have a PM heart-to-heart, just shoot me PM. Shoot, if you really need, I can summarize the planned revelation; it's mad spoilers for her story, and will lose a lot of its emotional weight, but I don't want you to feel like you have to tolerate Chuunitrixx for the sake of the RP.
Also, as someone that unironically does not like GoT at all, and found grand happiness in its fall from grace, the comparison to Joffery falls flat on me. Sorry. :(
@Enkryption Nah, it's fine. I don't wanna spoil your fun by getting to know future events and plans just because I'm a whiney, narrowminded punk. Though I don't have a problem with spoiling myself on things like anime and other media, it's a different story when it's someone's work who I'm actually directly in contact with. It feels incredibly rude to demand insight into the planned future of another person's work, just because I'm - at the moment - not onboard with the concpt in question. ;(
Also, I forgot to mention, but despite me not being a fan of the current Chuunitrixx, I really liked the first, original version of her. :)
On a different note entirely;
We got news today that the open clinic in our neighbouring area just closed down on account of having had confirmed Corona-victim(s) visit it. Since I work at a grocery store, chances are very high that sick people (knowing or otherwise) will come and shop at my workplace. We've taken the precautions that can be taken, but we can't exactly stop people from buying food...
So, yeah, my days are filled with sunshine and rainbows right now. Hopefully people wise up to the seriousness of this virus and stop going outside on their own... But, hey, it's humans we're talking about, so... Yeah... Guess we're screwed. T~T
@Xaltwind How old are you? Corona causes lung scarring, which is why its 'deadly', but if your not immune compromised or elderly you should be fine. I don't know any proper treatments for the disease itself though, might need to ask a doctor about that. but yeah.
BTW, I like how you guys are discussing Chuunitrixx and Light knows very little about all of whats going on with her. Shes kind of in her own little world right now, which is kind of funny and sad at the same time.
I work at Starbucks and they told us we need to step off the bar to wash our hands every thirty minutes now and the only thing we can take from customers now is money. Want to use your refillable cup for your drink? Nope, going to have to pour it in yourself. We also aren't letting anyone use the condiment bar. You want any milk, cream, or sugar in your drink? We have to stop whatever it is we're doing to pour it in for you. It's really impacting the speed at which we're able to work, but let me tell you the customers have not decided to stop coming or come less often.
God the end of that video reminds me when I overheard a bunch of girls talking about getting water at Starbucks just so they could have the Starbucks cups to drink from, even though there were a bunch of other stores nearby that they could get a free cup of water from.
