Welcome Travellers,

Somewhere at this very moment, someone out there in the world, is about to embark on a journey. The same way you and I are right now. Their journey is not much different from yours, not much from mine. It might be decorated with joy and laughter or shadowed by conflict and grief, just like ours.

Regardless of it being similar to our individual journeys or our shared adventure, it is no less important. These journeys we take, these roads we tread, are all important, more than at first sight we might expect. Why? Every journey shapes the Traveller. It changes them and transforms them.

So, if you have ears, open them and hear. Your journey is about to begin...

Introduction

Winter was just about to let it's iron grip go and allow Spring to take over the land. Since it was the year of Ice the winter had been exceptionally harsh for Eana which usually was a temperate land. Snow was starting to melt away and the Sun became warmer with each passing day. The Summer would not be as blazing hot but it would still be warm outside. It was at this time the King sent his messengers to all towns, villages, settlements and cities to bring his word to the people of Eana.

A royal messenger rode in haste wherever people were, calling attention from everyone within the reach of his voice. From his tone and the way he arrived, in a rush, there was no question that whatever he was about to say was important, urgent even. Once there was silence and he had the attention of all, he took a scroll with a royal coat of arms painted on its backside – a seated lion resting its paw on a shield and a crown over its head like a divine halo. He cleared his throat and began to read...

“Hear, all citizens!”, were the words the messenger cried at every square. “King Gonagas, the Lord of this land and the Defender of the people, has sent out a decree to all cities, towns and villages; to all who are now living within the boundaries of the Kingdom. Hear the words of your King!”

Then he began to read.

“From King Mikill Gonagas to all ready and able who are willing to take up arms in defence of the Realm,

'The Kingdom is facing a great threat from the surrounding countries and the lands round about it, which requires immediate action. To protect the freedom of the people and the independence of our beautiful kingdom, I, the King, will send a dispatch of the Royal Guard joined with all the volunteers who are given a rank of a private in the Guard, on a pre-emptive quest to strengthen the position of the Kingdom and our ability to defend it.

Report at the gates of Helsset, the City of the King, before the harvest season begins.

May the hand of The Guardian be over us all.
'”

This was the tidings the messenger came with.

You are a person of remarkable skill and talent in your art be it swordsmanship, controlling the supernatural and the elements, stealth, alchemy or any other craft. Regardless of the questions and doubts the strange and unexpected open call aroused, you answered and left for Helsset. Whether it was glory or adventure, title or rank, revenge or revolution. You had your reasons.

I. Arrival

You met a group of other volunteers in the previous city you traveled through, Giron - the last at least somewhat politically meaningful settlement on this streak before arriving to Helsset. Since Giron, you have been traveling together as a party. That was three days ago.

It is sunny and the day is turning into an afternoon. The sky is nigh void of clouds. You (and your traveling company) have walked tirelessly since sunrise. You had breakfast before packing the camp and lunch on foot while walking. You have a week to be at the gates of Helsset.

As you descend from the Giron Plateau through the Rocky Gate, a beautiful and peaceful view opens before you. Protected by a small mountain range in the West and another in the North, a relatively vast green field expands towards the South-East making a gentle slope eastward, towards the Western shore of Lake Guhkki.

Far away towards the South there is a waterfall raging down from the mountains into a dense mixed tree forest. It gives birth to a river that streams through the forest and the field in a Northeast direction straight into the lake; first coming out from the forest as a minor rapid, then calming down to a shallow river.

A few miles downstream in the distance you see the village of Avveel - a picturesque rural hamlet where you are supposed to stay overnight and restock for the remaining five-day journey to Helsset. The sky is clear and a gentle wind is sweeping over the surrounding fields and farmlands in waves. Far on the other side of Lake Guhkki, mighty rolling hills rise towards the skies, eventually transforming into a majestic mountain range heading South.

The road heading South-East towards Avveel is a well-travelled one. There are small rocks, gravel and tightly pressed sand and dry mud, that doesn’t seem to be far behind the surrounding stones in hardness. The narrow passage through the mountains behind you, is of red-shaded gray-brown granite. Your immediate surroundings is a breaking area where the rock dives into the ground and the cool granite gradually is replaced by sand, soil and eventually a grassy field. The farming fields are further down the road and closer to the river. There are some boulders of various shapes and sizes along the North side of the road. It is obvious they have rolled down from the mountainous slopes long ago.

A gust of wind rushes by you diving into the mountain pass behind you.

Droplets of sweat spilled down Allet Schal’s face as she continued trekking toward the small village of Avveel. She could hardly feel her legs after walking such a long distance. Part of her bags were already starting to drag. She'd have to work on getting into shape if she wanted to make this work. Clutching her medicine bag, she reminded herself why she was here.

Allet kept her focus on the familiar view ahead as a smile warmed her face. From the mighty waterfall to her south to the never ending mountains surrounding the village, it always left her speechless. She could still remember the first time her parents brought her here. It had been one of the one more memorable moments in her childhood. She wondered what Tuáhtár was working on at the moment. Perhaps she’d get a chance to visit her, it had been several years since they last saw each other. What would she think of Allet’s sudden choice to assist the King?

Taking a deep breath, Allet turned her attention to the group around her. She still wasn’t quite sure what she thought of them, or what they thought of her. The Elf named Sylvaine was a bit intimidating, but Allet felt strangely safe around her and edged near her as they walked. She seemed the most experienced amongst the group, especially considering the number of weapons she carried. As they walked, she broke the silence and asked, “Do you really need three daggers? And what are those longer swords called?” Allet had little to no experience with swords, she always found it boring as a child.

Alfaru, the Half-Elf, walked behind her and Sylvaine. Allet had no idea what kind of person he was, only that he preferred magic like her. He even had experience in healing magic which Allet hoped to learn more about. All of her healing abilities resulted in herbs and medicine only. The other human, Numair, was an Eldritch knight and Allet couldn’t help but be scared of him. He seemed really stern and it felt like he wouldn’t hesitate to kill her in her sleep. Despite herself, she shivered at the thought.

Sylvaine felt a smile spread on her face as they entered the Anaar Fields. It was a peaceful stretch of land that seemed like the perfect place to retire. Well, if she ever made it to retirement that is. Avveel was on the horizon which meant their day of travel was nearly done. While Sylvaine was more used to being on the road, the idea of a nice bed and warm food excited her. On the other hand, she could see that the journey was taking its toll on one of her new traveling companions. Allet seemed burdened by, in Sylvaine's opinion, an excess of baggage. Sylvaine had offered to carry a bag or two, but had been refused. In general, it seemed as though Allet wasn't much of a fighter. To Sylvaine it seemed odd that someone like her took up the King's call.

Speaking of non-fighters, Alfaru didn't seem like someone who has seen a battle either. As much as taking up the King's call is a personal decision, Sylvaine really didn't want to see people needlessly flinging themselves into a situation that could get them killed. Nonetheless, it's not like Sylvaine knew their whole story either. Numair on the other hand, seemed to be the only other one who knew what he was getting into. Sylvaine had heard of the Order of the Ravens, but didn't know too much about them. She didn't usually work well with others.

Allet seemed drawn to Sylvaine as she asked about her weapons. The tension in the air felt a bit awkward for Sylvaine's taste, but she decided to answer to try and break the silent spell. "The three daggers are for just in case. Sometimes they get wedged in wood or flesh, or I simply lose them in battle. Besides it's better to be over prepared than weaponless." Her fingertips gently hovered over the hilts of her daggers as she remembered with a start that she probably needed to pick up another dagger to hide in her boot. The last one escaped while embedded in a deer that managed to avoid becoming her dinner. "As for the sword-" Sylvaine drew one in a swift manner to admire the design. "It's called a Scimitar." Her fingers ran over the star design briefly before returning it to its place at her hip. Sylvaine returned her gaze back to the road.

Travel days were always the most boring, but normally she didn't have to deal with the maddening ordeal of traveling with others. Normally Sylvaine would get lost in her own thoughts, but with others there was always something pulling her out. Like someone walking too slow or discussing which direction they need to go. While she wishes she could enjoy the company, like she does when settling into a bar for the night, traveling was usually something she did alone. Luckily, though, they were nearly to Avveel. Only a week to go. Sylvaine closed her eyes and heaved a sigh. Guardian Ganda above, she needed a pint or three.

Alfaru had been traveling with the other three for three days and he still hardly knew anything about them. That wasn't too unusual given his naturally reserved nature, but it did make the traveling a bit more lonely. So far, he only knew the professions of his three companions. One was some sort of Eldritch Knight from an independent order that Alfaru had never heard of before (not surprising since nothing ever really happened in his village), another was a freelance mercenary, and the third was a healer like himself, although this one seemed more suited to the job than Alfaru was (not that he was bad at what he did, but his ambitions were much too big for a simple healer). The only other thing he noticed was that none of the others displayed any overt prejudice towards him due to his mixed blood, which was a pleasant surprise. He was well aware of the tendency of some, particularly dwarves and elves, though humans were by no means exempt from the tendency, to dislike mixes, and he had endured some abuse for it, but he had not heard even a muttered slur from his traveling companions in the three days he had been with them.

They had come into the Anaar Fields, and the village of Avveel was in sight. The last stretch of their journey was in view, and it made Alfaru pick up his pace slightly, despite how tired he was. Before setting out on this journey, Alfaru had never traveled so much in a single day. He had never even left his village before he had heard the King's message. And now he had been traveling for just under two weeks, making camp in the wilderness if there were no villages nearby, waking up at the crack of dawn to continue his journey, and walking until sundown to cover as much distance as possible each day. He had been in good shape before beginning this journey, but in the ten days since he left his village, he had slimmed down slightly, and the angles of his face had sharpened just enough that Alfaru noticed it. It made him look more mature, combined with the stubble on his face from not being able to shave during the journey.

Numair al-Din was not a fan of travelling. His feet hurt, and his back ached from not having time to properly pack it at the last stop. That was why for most of the journey, he wore a stern frown. Numair liked to work at extremes. Working hard to overcome a goal, or partying hard in a local inn, but travelling was travelling. It wasn't exciting or fun. It just had to be done.
With the village coming into sight, Numair smirked. The idea of a cold pint and a warm meal was pleasing to his travel-weary soul. Pulling his back further up his back, to retighten a strap that had come loose over the course of the journey. "Ah, finally." He readjusted the way his swords were hanging on his hip. "This town better have a tavern that serves decent beer." He paused as he considered his expectations of decent beer in a rural hamlet such as Avveel. "Or just beer." Numair decided the promise of decent beer that was served cold would be a bit much to ask for. Plus, to be fair, he couldn't give to shits how it tasted as long as it took the edge off. After travelling with this lot for the past three days, he's earned a drink, or three, or five.

With newfound energy, he continued on down the path with his merry band of friends. They were an interesting group. Numair wondered what sort of adventures a Mercenary, two healers and himself would get up to in the days to come. His hand brushed his coin pouch, seeing if he had enough to indeed get drunk in this town. He frowned as it was lighter than he would have liked. Numair sighed, as he remembered he forgot to receive his commission from the Order back in Giron. While it would carry over, and he would be able to collect twice as much next time he was heading that way, he wouldn't have enough to afford a room, and get drunk in this town. Numair just hoped against hope that the Order of the Raven had a satellite office in this hamlet where he could pick up a small commission. However, it was extremely unlikely.

The road to Avveel is like all other roads. It gets shorter only by walking. There is no magic to it. Step by step you leave the Rocky Gate behind and head towards Avveel. The road bends ever so slightly to the right, turning more and more towards the South-East direction of the village. You can see that the way is quite flat. There aren’t many remarkable dents or bumps worth mentioning in the topography of the field. Thus making it very easy to walk, regardless of being a gentle downhill.

Grass begins to take over for the rocks and gravel on both sides of the road. First in tufts of various sizes here and there, but soon covering the whole landscape. There are some farming fields in the distance. As the harvest season is about to begin soon. They are turning or are already different shades of yellow. You spot some fields of greener colours too, but because of the distance you can’t quite yet discern what they are yet.

Allett listened intently to Sylvaine as she described her weapons. A scimitar huh? It sounded more like a cooking spice. She chuckled softly but kept the thought to herself. Still, Sylvaine’s scimitar had bright outlines of stars that practically glowed against the metal. Glancing down at her plain dagger, Allet wondered if she might have displayed more interest in swordplay with a sword like Sylvaine’s. She hardly knew how to even wield the one she owned. Another skill she’d need to learn for this adventure. Part of Allet wanted to ask the elf more questions but she knew better. She muttered a thanks as Sylvaine returned the scimitar to her belt.

Keeping quiet for the remainder of the journey to Aveel, Allet kept her mind focused by thinking of various herbs and mixtures she brought with her. She often did this to help calm herself. A pleasant breeze brushed past her face and she breathed in the clean and familiar air. Even as an adult, she had a sense of excitement rush through her. Visiting Avveel had been her first adventure as a child. They weren’t planning on staying long but it only felt fitting she stopped here before aiding the King in Helsset.

Sylvaine felt the numbness of her legs that came with a long day's walk. It felt as though all the blood in her body were in her legs. Her mind idly wandered towards random thoughts. Maybe she should send a letter to her parents. It had been awhile and now that she was going to be working for the King there was something to write home about. Sylvaine very rarely received letters from her parents since she was always traveling, but there were times when she had stayed in a location for a while. Either because the job was taking time or simply because she liked it there. It was those times that Sylvaine would receive a letter from her parents. Usually, it was just about whatever new project they had taken on or about the village gossip, but it was still nice to hear from them every once in a while.

Sylvaine adjusted the leather sack over her shoulder and winced at the jangling of the few coins she had. She might have to strike a deal with the innkeeper if she wanted a bed tonight. If not, well, then it wouldn’t be the first time she’s made do in a stable or just outside the town. Besides, once she got to Helsset there were a few places she remembered that offered a nice place to stay for a night’s work. The city always had jobs to be done and people to help. It had been years since she’d been to Helsset, but surely there had to be someone she remembered there.

As Alfaru and his companions made their way along the road to Avveel, the albmot took stock of his surroundings. They were passing through a relatively empty stretch of land just past the Rocky Gate. Further down the road, the field became greener, but here the foliage was a bit thinner due to the shallow bedrock. As he was looking around, he noticed a skinny young boy just a stone's throw away near the foot of the mountains that the group had just left behind. Alfaru couldn't tell what the boy was up to, but it seemed none of his companions had taken notice, or if they had they paid the child no mind. Alfaru, however, couldn't help but be curious. What exactly was the boy doing? And where were his parents - there was no sign of anyone else anywhere nearby save Alfaru, his companions, and the boy.

Letting his curiosity get the better of him, Alfaru slowed his pace to drop to the back of the group, then stepped off the path in the direction of the boy. He stayed a short way from the boy to avoid attracting the child's attention, but did try to at least get close enough to find out what it is he was doing poking around under the rocks like that. Alfaru stepped lightly and carefully on the sparse vegetation that marked the margin of the field as he kept his eye on the boy, taking care to stay out of the child's line of sight if at all possible, while still making an effort to get close enough to see what the child was up to.

Numair brought himself back to the present. Glancing around at the party that had assembled, he did a mental count. The one healer and Elf. He could have sworn there was another healer. His left hand slowly moved to the hilt of his short sword. His right hand flicking his hood off his head. His pace slowed slightly as he looked around for his missing comrade.

Numair spied Alfaru sneaking. Not tying remain hidden from the group made it fairly easy to spot him. Had the Halfbreed seen a threat that the others had missed? Numair moved across the path, so he could keep his traveling companion in sight. Keeping his left hand resting on the hilt of the shirt sword. Ready to back up his compatriot should the need arise.

LOCATION: Road to Avveel / Heading East - South-East / a few miles to go before reaching the village.

The boy among the boulders to the North from the group either didn’t see Alfaru’s approach, or didn’t pay any attention to the fact that someone had seen him. He continued as if nothing was going on around him, wandering from boulder to boulder, moving some of the rocks on the ground he had the strength to move, while keeping his eyes on the ground almost without blinking. The movement of the boy-child was somewhat out of balance or otherwise off-beat. He was not trying to hide, on the contrary, he seemed completely oblivious to the idea that there could be someone, or something, else in vicinity. So focused he seemed to be on whatever the task at hand was.

Another, a slightly stronger gust passed by and lifted dust and sand in the air, throwing the dry and free soil around. The whole North side where grass was more sparse, and was completely nonexistent closer to the foot of the mountain, got covered in a thin light brown cloud for a moment. As the heavier corns fell back to the ground or were pushed by the wind here and there, a faint rustle could be heard echoing from the surroundings. The freely growing grass and occasional taller flower or random sprig swayed back and forth in the moving air. The wind brought with it a vague mixed scent of a big lake, framland and wild fields.

In the distance a single ring of a bell-tower can barely be heard. The soft metallic boom fills the whole plateau with its sound, signalling the approaching end of the working day. A near-by flock of gray doves lift their heads from the field as they hear the bell. They lock their eyes towards Avveel for a few seconds before taking flight and heading towards the village.

As a strong gust of wind flung dirt into her face, Allet covered her mouth and coughed. “Goodness, that wind,” She mumbled before wiping her face with a piece of cloth. She hoped they would make their way into the town soon. Allet’s arms and legs couldn’t handle much more of this. Maybe she should have just let Sylvaine help with her bags. That was a much better alternative to collapsing from exhaustion.

She glanced back to see how her companions were fairing, only to find an empty road behind her. Looking around the area, she finally caught sight of Alfaru creeping up on a little boy and Numair right behind him. Huh? “Sylvaine.. What are they doing?” She asked and raised both of her eyebrows. What was so interesting of a child? Squinting her eyes, Allet wasn’t sure what exactly he was doing. He seemed to be moving things. They were so close to a warm meal and rest, Allet couldn’t help but groan in annoyance.

Dropping most of her bags, she let her curiosity get the best of her and approached Numair. “What’s going on?” She whispered to him, trying her best to stay calm in his presence. The sudden clang of a bell echoing across the fields startled Allet. She let out a squeak and dropped her remaining medicine bag. Red blossomed across Allet’s cheeks and she looked down in embarrassment. Some kind of soldier she was.

Sylvaine had to close her eyes as a brief gust of wind blew sand and soil into her face. However, after shielding her eyes and coughing some of the sand out of her lungs, she noticed a lack of half her traveling companions. Seriously? They were nearly to the village and they decide to drag them off course now? "I have no idea what those two are up to. Probably a waste of time if you ask me." Sylvaine let some bitterness into her tone. It had been a long day of travel and all she wanted was some rest. Was that really so much to ask?

Sylvaine followed Allet making no effort to stay hidden when she noticed the boy everyone seemed to be focused on. Were they seriously stopping to harass some young boy playing with rocks? He was acting a bit odd, but kids are kids and always tend to be on the odd side. "I hope you all have a good reason for this. Cause right now you just look suspicious." She mumbled to no one in particular.

Alfaru continued to watch the boy, trying to figure out what he was up to. Something about the child's actions seemed off, and the more Alfaru watched him, the more curious he became. A gust of wind came up, and Alfaru bent his head down and lifted his arm to shield his face, but not before he got hit with a large amount of dust, causing him to release a few hacking coughs and one very loud sneeze to relieve his body of the unwanted particles.

The noise of his coughing and sneezing was so loud, Alfaru was sure the boy had heard, and he glanced back toward the child to see if the boy had taken notice of his spy. He then noticed something in the opposite direction out of the corner of his eye, and he looked back to see all three of his traveling companions had decided to follow him. He made no attempt to hide the look of exasperation on his face, but he did bite back his response to the mountain elf's charge of them looking suspicious, not wishing to give the child any further opportunities to find out that he was being watched.

Speaking of the child, Alfaru turned his attention back toward the mountains to see if the child had indeed taken notice of them, or if he had left while Alfaru's back was turned, or if something else entirely had transpired while Alfaru had been otherwise occupied.

"Hey, I didn't know what we were looking at." Upon seeing it was just a child. "Thought it might have been a wolf or something. Maybe bandits. That's just some kid." He said continuing down the road, leaving Alfaru and the others. Kids weren't really his thing. He was quite content to leave, and meet them later at the bar. He figured the other two would make sure Alfaru didn't do anything untoward with the kid. Well, maybe just the Elf. She seemed the most cable of the group. Probably the most moral too.

Tired from the long journey, he didn't have the energy to follow after just a random kid. Taking his waterskin from his belt he took a swig, and wet his face to cool himself down a bit. Not so much that the weather was hot, just walking was boring and he wanted to break it up a bit and keep him awake. Hearing the bell he sighed. It was getting later than he would have liked. At least the tavern will be bustling by the time they get there. He kept an eye out. Scanning the fields ahead. Only a few miles to go. The bar was so close, yet so far.

As the oddly sneaking group of adventurers carefully approached the young boy who now had his back towards them. The boy kept his eyes keenly on the ground as he lifted a stone with his childishly skinny arms. He could be heard mumbling something to himself. "Not here either, no... maybe under there instead.", the boy uttered below his breath. He dropped the stone he had just lifted. As the stone fell, it sent a minor puff of dust and gravel flying. The boy moved a bit to the right and crouched next to a small round slab that was leaning on one of the bigger boulders that were slightly taller than an average man. The bigger ones surely weighed hundreds if not thousands of pounds. The boy peeked into the gap between the slab and the boulder it was leaning on. "Hmmmmm...", he thought aloud before standing up. Then he grabbed the slab and began to pull, trying to move it. It was obvious it was not going to work, not with his scrawny arms.

Another bell rang in the distance and swept across the plateau with its calm tone. This time the young boy reacted. As the bell rang, he seemed to awaken and realise what time it was. He straightened his posture slightly and turned his head slightly towards the village. He paused for a second, sighed, and returned his focus to trying to move the slab. "Not yet", the boy muttered. "Not yet..."

Allet’s stomach growled in protest as she continued watching the child move rocks and mumble under his breath. Where were his parents? It didn’t seem right that the child was out here alone. Numair clearly had enough and abandoned the group to continue on the path to town. She couldn’t tell if she was more annoyed or relieved. But he did have a point.. While the boy did seem distressed, was it appropriate for them to even intervene? He didn't appear to be hurt or have any wounds. Allet couldn't find a reason to stay watching him for much longer.

“Should we just move along? I think we’ve all earned some rest. We might make the situation worse if we bother him too. Did you see anything Alfaru to suggest otherwise?”

Sylvaine waited a moment to observe anything that Alfaru saw that she didn't. To be honest, the kid was...odd, but you can't judge a book by it's cover. Besides kids will be kids and most kids are odd in some way or another.

"I'm heading to town. You can stay if you want Allet, but I'm just saying if I don't see Alfaru in the inn later tonight, I might just have to mention something to the local authorities." Sylvaine turned back to the road. She had spoken loud enough for their companion and maybe even the kid to hear.

Alfaru shook his head in response to Allet's question. "No, just a feeling I have that something's a bit off with this," he said. "You go on ahead. I'll catch up with you later." With that, he returned his attention to the boy, who was now trying to move a slab of rock that he clearly wasn't strong enough to move. What was he looking for? And where were his parents? The child was all alone, looking for something, and he seemed desperate to find it soon.

Alfaru considered what he should do. He could just walk away and leave the boy to his business. That might be the smart thing to do, but was it the right thing? He could help the child in his search, but he had no idea how the child would react to a stranger approaching and offering his help. Of course, he could try to help the child without directly intervening. He was sure the book in his pack had a blessing that would temporarily increase the boy's strength, which should allow him to move the rock he was trying to move. But then that opened a whole new series of problems. What if the rock was propping the boulder up, and once it was removed the boulder would topple? If that happened, it would surely crush the boy, enhanced strength or not, not to mention what might happen if the boulder chose to roll downhill and into the fields. But then again, the boulder looked to be fairly stable on that side, and the slab seemed to be leaning on the boulder more than the boulder was leaning on the slab.

After a minute of internal debate, Alfaru made up his mind. He set his pack down on the ground beside him and began leafing through the book he had brought with him until he found the blessing he was looking for. He stretched his right hand out toward the boy and read the words from the page. If the spell worked the way it should, it would double the boy's strength for approximately 30 minutes, which should be long enough for him to move anything else he needed to move until he found what he was looking for, whatever that happened to be. As he muttered the blessing, he was hit with a wave of doubt. What was the child looking for? And was it wise to enable him to find whatever it was? However, by now it was too late to change course. The spell had been set in motion, the power had been released, and now the spell would either succeed or fail and Alfaru could do no more the change the outcome.

A few miles to go before reaching the village.

The boy put all the feeble effort his fragile body could muster into moving the slab. He closed his eyes and pulled. He pulled hard. So hard, that it seemed he would pull his arms right off from their sockets before the slab would move. Such was his determination.

A faint glow of warm light radiated briefly from the boy’s body when the blessing of strength landed. The light swirled around like flowing water enveloping the boy’s small, nigh non-existent muscles and was absorbed into them. One might say the sight was beautiful. A young soul giving all of his effort and then suddenly receiving an increase in ability in an almost divine manner. Blessings were the hopes and dreams of Ganda and his stars after all. Once the light was gone, the slab started suddenly moving. It moved slowly, but it moved.

The ringing of the after-noon bells had made the child more aware of his surroundings. Sylvaine's voice reached his attention and broke his focus. Startled, the boy let go of the large slab by accident.

Because of the sudden increase in strength, he is unable to control his body properly and loses his grip and balance. He takes a couple of false steps backwards when his heel grabs hold of a big rock on the ground and he falls, his head barely missing another. Unfortunately, the slab had already reached the point of no return. Without anyone holding it, the large – compared to the boy – slab kept tilting. In a second or two, the only thing the fragile boy could do was scream, covering his head with his thin arms. Then the slab came down with its full might on the boy's legs.
