"Troll!"

Mist didn't have time to comment on the girl's plight before the tavern was returned to the throws of chaos once again. Just as Nei finished explaining why she had braved her way inside, a monstrosity clambered out of the hole leading to the dungeons below. Everyone fell into a panic, save for the adventurers to which there were plenty and, to Mist's surprise, Nei herself. She moved forward, her every step one of confidence and poise and of an energy that seemed entirely opposite of the girl he'd witnessed diving under the tables just a moment ago. Then, in complete defiance of the grotesque thing before her, she spoke.

"Insolence!"

"Faaaascinating." He cooed as he moved away from her and into the shadows she'd been so kind to provide earlier. "What shaaall youu do... sorrrrceress." Where previously there was her hand, in his palm was now a bow.

What to do... what to do...

There wasn't much she could do, in all honesty. She was standing on the other side of the pit, with no ranged weapons at her disposal. She had never fought before - and so the spells she knew were also not intended for combat. She could run up to the troll and strike it with her rapier, but that sounded nothing short of suicidal. Then there were the flying creatures...

She patted around her person, and realized she did have a dagger. But just one.

It was worth a try, she supposed.

Drawing in a breath, Leanna closed some of the distance between her and the monsters. The flying ones seemed smaller, and therefore hopefully weaker. If she could at least thin their numbers, perhaps she could be of use that way. With that thought in mind, she aimed her dagger - and threw it straight at the closest one.

Without waiting to see whether it had hit its mark, she backtracked to the closest table and dug behind it. Once there, she picked up her instrument - and begun to play. She'd seen two men close to the troll, and hoped that perhaps, just perhaps, her playing could inspire some sort of fighting spirit in them. The closest one should've been within hearing distance, at least.

Baldrick looked over at his foes. The troll was the more obvious threat, but he wasn't sure he could do much against it. The flying creatures seemed less dangerous, but did that mean they could be ignored? Which did he target? What was the right choice?

Music seemed to cut through Baldrick's thoughts and calmed his nerves. Perhaps there was a an alternative to directly fighting. Extending his hand, Baldrick began to mutter an incantation and bathed the area the creatures were in, in bright green light. After casting his spell he retreated back a few paces and drew his scimitar, readying himself for the fight.

Both the troll and flying guys save from Faerie Fire with a 17 and 20.

Durnan

HP: 134/144
AC: 16
SPEED: 30

Durnan watches one of the flying creatures drop after a dagger was thrown. Objects around the troll start to cast light while the creatures stay uneffected. Durnan hops over the bar with his great sword and charges at the troll. Not having the time to hit, but giving him enough time to be hit. "Focus on the Stirges!" Durnan points to the flying creatures as commands the room of heroes. "And douse the troll in lamp oil and set it on fire when it falls."

Troll

The troll's wounds that had been there before now look like they have healed slightly. It roars in Durnan's face and goes in for the attack. The troll tries to bite and claw at Durnan. missing the first two times, it goes in for a third and manages to hit.

A lack of fear from the human shouldn't have been a surprise to the Tabaxi. The man did own an establishment built atop a dungeon after all. Days bereft of such chaos had to be so few as to be nonexistent. He watched in mild admiration as the proprietor, with no hesitation, jumped head first into danger just as the troll moved to meet him. In that moment however, as the large beast swung at the would be assailant, Mist saw an opportunity.

There was an order hanging in the thick of the air. One given by someone of authority he was sure. Something about hitting the other flying creatures but whatever it was, the whistle of fletching by his ear drowned it out. He fired at the troll.

HP: 10/10
AC: 14
SPEED: 30ft

Prepped Spells:

And so the battle commenced. Many of the patrons were clearing out or cowering. A few others decided to join the barkeep in repelling the troll beast. However while the troll is no doubt the biggest threat in this room, the barkeep was right to suggest that the others first eliminate the stirges. It made sense; the barkeep would be able to hold off the troll for now, but he cannot disengage to chase down any of the flying beasts that might escape and harm others. Though Yoh doubts that the ones attached to the troll itself is are going anywhere, the ones flying above it might. And so Yoh began approaching the troll, raising his hand towards the stirges above. A faint light began to glow in the palm of his hand as he charged his magic, and once he was certain he would strike his target his closed his hand into a fist.

"Γ‰lettelΓ«a."

Suddenly from his lone eye, a single beam of light flashed faster than an arrow, striking the stirge. Lowering his hand Yoh continued to walk towards the troll. As he walked he reached into his pocket, taking out what appeared to be a small petrified eye of a newt. Yoh raised his hand up to his head as he crushed this eye, causing his own eye to flash for a moment and cause the troll to feel a profane sense of weakness.

"PoldorΓ« Umbar."

Falling Mist's hit misses the troll. Yoh manages to take out one of the stirges. Four of the Stirges break from the others and attempt to attach themselves and drink the blood of Atone, Baldrick, Leanna, and Durnan. They all manage to attach themselves to the four targets and you can feel these things taking more blood from you.

Now I'd said it didn't I? The cat person seemed interested in what I was going to do too, ah what could I do? I couldn't cast any great magic like the actual sorceress, in fact I couldn't cast any at all without Lord. Was I really supposed to hit that big burly thing all the way across the well? What was the farthest I had cast again?

The orders to shoot at the bat creatures brought some relief at least. They seemed like a weaker target and better yet, they got the cat person's attention! I cleared my throat, fixed my posture, and gaze upon this miniature battlefield with my arms crossed and forcing a scoff.

"Hmph, I suppose it can't be helped then. Can't say I've encountered these things before, so I'll differ to the expert's advice. Either way, it seems like a waste to expend my most powerful, grandiose magics upon such filth, but I suppose I have some spare sparks I don't have another use for." Having said that, I swiftly moved forward a bit (still making sure to stay a good 5 feet away from the well so I didn't fall), fixed my hair and pulled my backpack to my front, then held it tightly close to my chest with one arm, while holding out the other in the direction of the creature attacking the blond-haired bard.

The faint traces of hair in my forearm raised as a chill blew with the wind that seemed to be starting to swirl around it. Droplets of what appeared to be glowing snow rained down (and some up) to my arm and gloves, covering them in a whitish blue light, gathering especially in my palm.

"Ray of Frost!" I trusted my arm forward, causing shooting out that light toward my target.

Atone

HP: 5/11
AC: 18

Atone was unable to enter the fight as soon as he would have liked. He had gotten caught up in the panic-stricken crowd that was fleeing the tavern and only now was he free to move. Before he could make his way towards the troll, however, one of the flying creatures swooped down to make a meal out of him. Atone cried out in pain and then swung his longsword at the creature in retaliation. Once the creature was dealt with Atone stepped forward to engage the flying creature attacking Durnan.

Even through the music, Leanna could hear something approach. It was a buzzing sound, reminiscent of a large insect - and it didn't take her long to deduce its source. She stopped playing, hugging the lute to her chest. Perhaps, just perhaps, its wooden frame would help muffle the vehement beat of her heart.

It did not. An instant later, one of the flying creatures she'd seen earlier emerged from behind the table. It thrust towards her, and Leanna could do little but raise an arm to try and protect her face and neck.

She felt it puncture her arm, attaching itself firmly to her flesh. Leanna screamed, adrenaline gushing through her bleeding body as newfound fear seeped into her conscience. She could feel her strength draining, a sudden dizziness clouding her vision. She'd never been hurt before - not to this extent, not so suddenly. Would she... die? Already? No, no she could not let that--

From the corner of her eye, she saw someone move. It was the woman she'd seen earlier, though the feline that had accompanied her was nowhere to be found. Leanna caught a glimpse of an icy glow. A cool breeze brushed past her, pulling at all the little hairs on her arm. And then suddenly, she felt a huge weight fall off her arm. Something hit the floor. The creature was dead.

"Thank you... thank you," Leanna breathed out, still half adaze. She had no idea whether she'd spoken loudly enough for the woman to hear, but the bard gave her a glance that conveyed her relief well enough. Her arm stung, but Leanna refused to look at it. She didn't want to see the damage done. There were others caught in a fight with the monsters still. She'd been saved - the least she could do was return the favour in kind.

Leanna stood shakily, taking in the battlefield behind her. She noted each and every monster in particular, and quickly realized how many of them there were. Three men were caught in the middle of it all, two of them quite injured.

"Be not afraid! You're not alone," she shouted to the tiefling, who seemed quite intent on carrying on the fight. Her words were accompanied with a little tune and a dash of magic. Hopefully, that would rejuvenate him a little.

With that, she balanced her lute against her injured arm and played another note, eyes focused on a spot near the door. It was a somber, slow tune; a lullaby, if you will.

Baldrick hissed in pain as the creature latched on to him and dug into his flesh. He stumbled as he felt his blood drain from his body and he fumbled for for his scimitar, bringing it down onto the creature. His eyes darted around the room, besides the troll, the rest of the flying beasts seemed to be collapsing. That brought him a sense of relief, but the fighting was not over yet. Across the way a young woman with a lute was playing the instrument, despite being injured herself. Realizing that she was most likely the one whose music invigorated him earlier, Baldrick sought to return the favor and called out a word of healing.

Durnan

HP: 110/144
AC: 16
SPEED: 30

Durnan paid no mind to the stirge now attached to him. He decided to deal with the bigger threat, relying on the others to get rid of the stirge. He attacked the troll four times with his sword, Grimvault. The troll managed to dodge and knock the blade away three out of the four times. Leaving only one minor wound on the troll.

Troll

The troll, enraged by the attack from Durnan, used all of his natural weapons available to fight back the barkeep. The troll managed to sink his teeth into Durnan's flesh and a deep scratch in his armor. The while he was getting hit quite a bit, Durnan still looked to be in good health. Though, the troll did as well. The nice wound Durnan had just given the beast was now fully healed.

Mist immediately nocked and loosed a second arrow at the troll, his primary focus remaining unchanged even after he'd witnessed the stirges falling upon those that had joined the fight. The others had made rather quick work of them all on their own with one of the winged creatures now a frozen corpse and a few others suddenly dropping out of the air.

The barkeep however was still locked in combat with the largest beast, effectively keeping it's attention on him.

Thanks to the quick thinking of some of the other patrons, a bulk of the flying horde fell, not dead but asleep. This should make slaying them easy. Emphasis on should. Yaj moved in closer to one of the sleeping striges, the one next to a troll, brandishing his spear with both hands. Hefting his weapon above his head Yaj stabbed his spear downwards, but much to his disappointment realized that he missed a sleeping target, making him unable to not only cast his melee cantrip, but utterly fail to kill an unconscious insect. "... Well this is embarrassing."

Falling Mist hits the troll in the back with his shortbow. The troll roars angrily and looks over to see who did that. Fortunately for Mist, the troll doesn't have great vision and cannot see much. So, he continues the fight with Durnan. The only Stirge that is awake takes more blood from Baldrick and after filling up detaches from him.

While the warmth gradually started to return to my arm, my eyes remained fixed on following the blue beam until I witnessed it clashing into the flying creature's lower back and spreading frost across it. Be it because it reaches the wings and they couldn't remain suspended in the air, or because of the cold, the creature dropped to the floor at once, and there it remained. I squinted my eyes towards where it had fallen, but with the distance and the table in the way, it was hard to tell whether it had stopped moving at all. I gave up on finding out, and rose my gaze to the person who was previously being attacked...

WOAH! What was that look?! It was hard to see from here, but they stared at me for a moment, I was sure of it! They muttered something too... I did just kill the thing attacking them right? I killed it, right? Did I do something wrong?

I looked around the battlefield. My body felt stiff, my feet were urging to move while my throat seemed suspended my arms glued in place. A tiefling was attacking one of the flying creatures like I did, with a blade instead. That cat person attacked as well, but they attacked the big ugly thing instead.

Maybe we were supposed to focus our attacks on that big one then? And the other things were just, like, in the way? Or was the stare because I stole their kill? Were they saying they totally had that handled and I shouldn't have gotten in the way?

Well, after I we were done with this mess I'd just group up with whoever I was supposed to meet and disappear before I had to deal with that girl. I nodded to myself as if to reinforce my commitment to that plan.

The brute thing kept slashing at the barkeep, even after getting an arrow on its shoulder though. I gulped, squeezed my backpack again and took a few steps forward, closer to the well.

"Indeed, a poultry task!" The lady who hired me liked to experiment things, right? Perhaps I could use that now. "I shall see whether it will have a similar effect on a larger target. Ray of frost!"

The cold light once again formed around my arm and was shot out of it, this time propelled over the well.

Atone

HP: 11/11
AC: 18
SPEED: 30 ft

As Atone pressed forward despite his injury to engage his next opponent he heard an enchanting voice call out to him over the sounds of battle.

"Be not afraid! You're not alone!"

Immediately after he heard those words a sensation of warmth washed over his body as he felt the pain from his wound fade and then vanish completely. His first thought after such an occurrence was that of divine intervention. Surely such a beautiful voice would belong to an angel and as a servant of the gods he was never truly alone. Spurred on by the belief that he had received direct assistance from the gods he rushed forward with renewed vigor.

Just as Atone closed in on the sleeping stirge another man beat him to it. With a single mighty thrust from his spear the stranger missed the creature entirely. However, this failed attack did give Atone pause and he remembered that there had been someone else near him before. He turned around and saw the man that had also intervened in the bar fight from earlier lying on the floor and mortally wounded. Atone's initial plan had been to finish off this other flying creature and then head for the troll, but his duty was the defense of the innocent, not seeking glory. The troll would have to wait.

Leaving the sleeping creature to the fellow with the spear, Atone charged the stirge that had incapacitated the druid with vengeful intent and swung his blade.

It worked. All but one of the stirges succumbed to Leanna's music and fell from the air, fast asleep. It was unfortunate that she hadn't managed to get them all, but she believed the others could slay the remaining one easily enough. She managed a pained smile, slowly lowering her lute. Its weight was starting to hurt.

That was, until someone called out to her. Leanna couldn't catch the meaning of his words, but she felt their impact quick and true. A wave of relief washed over her, allowing her to stand up properly and take another look at the battlefield. There, she saw who'd helped her; the very man she'd played a tune to earlier. The remaining stirge was still attached to his flesh, and he seemed unable to pry it off. A moment later, he was down. The stirge, having had its fill, detached from his unconscious body.

If only she had the energy to cast spells still, she could've done something to help. As things were, all she could do was hope the others tended to the unconscious man and killed the stirge before it hurt anyone else. As for her, she had but a rapier to use - and no skill with it to speak of. She had not found herself in many battles before. Her spells reflected that; sleep, healing, and-- ah, yes. She did have that, didn't she?

Leanna had done what she could to aid in the effort against the stirges. Perhaps it was time she redirected her attention to the troll instead. They'd been told to use fire to deal with it, yet no one seemed capable of producing any. If that was the case...

Her gaze darted around the chaotic tavern, desperate for a familiar flicker. Luckily enough, she did not need to search for long; oil lamps sat idly atop many a table to her left, some within a comfortable reach. A hand's reach, some might say - though not her own.

Leanna emerged from her hiding spot once more. With a flourish of her hand, another hand wiggled into existence above the closest table. With it, Leanna reached for the oil lamp, seizing it in a phantom grasp. Even after so many times of doing it, holding something yet not feeling it upon your skin was... strange, yet she refused to be distracted.

With practiced aim, she moved the hand as close to the troll as she could, flinging the lamp towards its head.
