Hello! I've been working on a Battletech-based RP for a long-ass time now. It has literally been over two years since I started writing out all of the details that I had hoped to incorporate into the setting, as well as (hopefully enough) backstory for the uninitiated to get an idea of what the Battletech universe is all about. Obviously, a large part of that two years was a very long hiatus from RPG in general, unfortunately. Work, hobbies, and alcoholism kind of got in the way.
That being said, I have felt the urge to return to this project. I've collected some more information that I felt was necessary to competently remain true to the lore of Battletech whilst also creating my own sort of AU based around the Jihad time period. There are many critical events that I have in mind that are already established in the lore, but the Jihad isn't a super well-documented time period within the canonical universe, as far as I can tell. I wanted to try to flesh it out a bit more. Also, anyone who is more familiar with Battletech lore is invited to co-GM with me, mostly to keep shit kind of canon. I'm not as well-versed in Battletech lore as I wish I were, and there's too many books for me to do a deep dive on without a significant time committment.
Anyhow, enough bulshitting. Here's the official blurb. Subject to edits.
Humanity has expanded to the stars, colonizing over 2000 worlds since the 21st century, taking up an area around Terra which would come to be known as the Inner Sphere. It is currently September 3067. Almost 40 years since the end of the Fourth and final Succession War. Scientific progress and development have spiked in the last thirty years, spurred on by the finding of advanced technology thought lost from the destruction of the three prior Succession Wars. After more than two centuries of technological decline and widespread destruction, the trend has reversed and civilization is finally starting to regain lost time.
In 3049, after over two centuries of near-constant warfare between the powers that be, outside invaders calling themselves The Clans launched a full-scale invasion on the Inner Sphere. The Federated Commonwealth, Draconis Combine, and the newly formed Free Rasalhague Republic took the brunt of the attack, but it was known that these invaders would attack anyone who stood in their way. The frightening skill and efficiency of The Clans made it abundantly clear that none of the Successor States could stand against them alone, and they formed an alliance in the spirit of the Star League to stand against the invaders. Only then were they able to halt The Clans' advance on Terra.
When the Clan invasion was brought to a halt, the newly christened Star League was destroyed as quickly as it was created with the Fed-Com Civil War and the resultant split of the Federated Commonwealth back into the Federated Suns and the Lyran Commonwealth. The Fed-Com Civil War was one of the bloodiest in decades, wreaking destruction and havoc upon countless worlds within Fed-Com space. The destruction was not as severe as with the Succession Wars, but it was very widespread, and crippled many, many critical worlds. In the end, the Successor States split apart once more. There have been border skirmishes ever since then, and the core worlds were thrown into utter chaos.
One thing hasn't changed. Com-Star, as it always has been, firmly controls and protects Terra, as well as the Inner Sphere's network of HPGs. Unbeknownst to the population at large, tensions and infighting have been brewing within this organisation for decades. Ever-secretive, not much is known about Com-Star other than their primary duties and a general idea of how they operate. The inner workings and politics of Com-Star have long been a mystery to others. However, some have begun to take notice of a hostile breakaway group from Com-Star. Those who have payed close enough attention to them can easily spot the sinister workings of fanaticism, zealousy, and brutality, and the drive, means, and motivation to quickly rise to be the biggest existential threat to the Inner Sphere since the early Succession Wars.
