So, you call yourself a writer. Whether you spend time thinking about ideas without putting pen to paper, have won several Nanowrimos in a row, or are published, even, you might consider yourself a crafty person who enjoys showing everyone your ideas. What I've noticed from my time on RPG is that there's no one "writer's support group" or whatnot; I think it's necessary for writers to talk to writers about their writing, whether it's just their RP threads or even books that they're writing. I also think that this could open up connections between writers-- for instance, published authors or writers that have a completed work might even be able to mentor or guide aspiring authors!

This thread serves as kind of an introductory post for a writer's club. It also serves as a sign up thread for the club! Most of our conversations will be held through Discord, which I think is more personal and easier to communicate with. Hell, if people really want, we can hold club meetings or contests and even post guides and videos!

Of course, with every club comes a couple of rules. These rules are to protect the club's members and make sure that everyone has fun and remains comfortable. That's what the club is all about!

We hope you enjoy your stay at the RPGWC!

I would at the very least appreciate an invite to the Discord server, once such a thing exists and has been taken into use.

I'd like to suggest a bit of an ongoing contest. I imagine it like this.

Someone, probably Ambra, provides an Initial Short Story Prompt or Starter within the first week (preferably first few days) of the first week of a month.

Everyone who wants to participate has until the end of that month to post a short story and, if they want, ideas for the next Story Prompt/Starter. It would be best to indicate your intent to write that month, maybe by Liking the Post with the Story Prompt

At the end of the month everyone who submitted a Short Story votes for Best Story (can't vote for yourself) and if they want they can vote for Best Story Prompt. Whoever wins gets a little acknowledgment in the OP like...

Best Short Story - January 2021 - BangoSkank : On Being Bango

And then can choose between the most popular Story Prompt/Starter and one of their own devising. They, the winner posting the next prompt, would probably be disqualified from winning that contest based on their prompt just to keep things interesting.

Maybe.

We did something like this in the old Bethesda forums and it was a lot of fun. I still have most if not all of those winners saved somewhere.

Prompts could be several different things. A mood. A setting. A plot.

Desperation.
Wild West.
Someone has hacked the mainframe.
Unrequited Love.
There's a snake in my boot.
Someone just pickpocketed you.
You missed your train.
Memory.

Or maybe something like a strange phrase or character you have to work in to the story.

Anyway this idea is giving me a writing boner so use it for the Writing Club if you want but if you don't I'm probably gonna use it.

Great idea @Ambra

Great minds think alike because I've had a few wee things in the background similar to your idea for the RPGO Discord/site for a little while. If you ever want to collaborate, put heads together on things, or need some behind-the-scenes help, I would be honoured!
