I used to date someone that I met on this site. We don't talk anymore, but it illustrates that roleplay can lead to friendship or more.

When I was younger, like 13-18, I roleplayed constantly. I had my own forum with around 20 active members and we were pretty close. But then I had to work full time.. and then two jobs.. and I had to quit. I lost contact. Ahh.. I really miss the old crew. :(

Yes. I've met three of my online partners IRL, went to college with one of them (she actually chose to study there with me, and is still one of my best friends to this day), currently live with one (met IRL first through a friend group), dated two (the aforementioned IRL friend and a different IRL friend. We're all still friends), and mourned one who passed away recently.

Basically, if you end up as a long-term RP partner, you're kind of stuck with me for life. XD Even if we drift, I'll still pop in now and again to say hi on whichever social media platform we've moved to.

Not necessarily family, but a few good friends.

@Rapid Reader is not my best friend and has blackmailed me into being a GM to them during my tenure on this website. I dunno what my experiences over the last year or so roleplaying would be without them.

This question is a complicated one as it's different from making friends IRL, it is easy to be someone you aren't IRL on the Internet which is a little scary. I see everyone as a kind of friend, we all share a community and interact with each other in different ways.

Yeah I've made a few friends here. A few have left the Discord and forum but we stay in touch. It's a very interaction heavy hobby, forming bonds is pretty natural.

Hmm. I think most people I've met on here are... acquaintances. Sure I've had a small group of friends, but we don't really communicate at all anymore on the server we used. Other than that the only real friend I have I didn't even meet on this site, but FANDOM.

So yeah, acquaintances, not friends and definitely not family.

@Severance once sent me ten dollars to get off my ass and post in one of our RPs. I'd like to think we go beyond accquaintances. Man bought me [a cheap] dinner for a RP post, lmao.

Actually, the reason I showed up here was because someone I dated RPed here, and then I stayed and she didn't...after the breakup of course.

Of course! I dragged a friend over here from the other site where we used to forum RP (since ughh, idk 2010 ish??) on. We lost contact for a couple years in between then, but got back in touch a couple years ago and I'd still consider her one of my best friends <3

And I've made a couple other friends on here, even if we're not currently RPing (curse my lack of inspiration for original settings atm >__>) I still consider them my friends :D

So I used to have a very large group of IRL friends that used this site, or well, the old site at least. It started with me, then I got my best friend to join, and we ended up with about five of us? All friends IRL, all roleplaying on the Guild. It didn't last super long though, after a few RPs together most people dropped away apart from my original friend Danimal who hung around for a few years - RPing with him are honestly some of my fondest memories of the old site. By 2013 I think I was the last one really using the site on a regular basis, still friends with a few of them offline though.

I had a pretty tight group of online friends on oldguild too, some from people who often played with my IRL friends, others from a super long running roleplay I was in that had a pretty active OOC. I still check in with some of them when they appear online, though sadly most of them aren't active anymore.

I like to think I still have a couple of friends on the site now, probably not as many as I once did though.

In a hobby such as this where you are constant collaborating and bouncing ideas off one another, you are bound to form bonds like you do when you are at work, or go to hobby clubs etc. And just like those activities, some bond become stronger than others. I think with the advent of discord and the fact that RPs are alot more connected than the old days of mailing lists and only OOC threads for communication, forming those bonds has been alot easier.

I am quite lucky in one regard, RPG is my kind of fortress where I can retreat from. Without cracking out the violin, alot of people in my RL life have taken advantage of me, and as a result I have moved to a place where there is few people around. While I enjoy this, I still at time pine for some sort of friendship. So I get this from the Guild. I m lucky that alot of people here seem to at the very least tolerate my presence and some even enjoy it.

It was this site that introduced me to one of my best friends who I won't embarrass by tagging into the post. But suffice to say, this site has saved me a couple of times.

Sadly, all of my closest friends from the previous forum either now avoid me like the plague (Through nobodies fault except my own) or haven't logged in for at last 18 months.

I met my friend a couple days ago, it's funny how similar we are. She's helped me realize that I will not be alone for the rest of my life. She told me much about her life and told me that you can't always be loved and that I'll get hurt but that someday I will find someone who truly cares about me.

And now I can say for once in my life that I am truly happy, and I haven't been for a very long time. If your reading this, thank you for helping me.
