Ascot's response as he ate his food was, "As you said, you're on the edge of Federal Space. Once I rescue my parents, I'll flee with them to beyond the edge, find a nice little neutral world not touched by either Feds or Vyexul Coalition, and then live out the rest of our lives in relative safety among a community of farmers or townsfolk. Or rather, they will - I plan to rejoin the Vyexul counteroffensive once I've rescued my parents and settled them, then defend against the inevitable Federation counterattack. After that, if I'm still alive, I'll join my parents in their hopefully peaceful life."

A wistful smile, "And I don't intend on compromising your people's safety, Ms. Serenity - You can believe me on that." Finishing his meal quickly, the young man said, "As for peaceful, boring jobs, I won't lie, I can use those too. But if you ever need additional security and it won't endanger my and your secrecy, well... I'm good at that too."

In essence, he was offering himself as his host's personal bodyguard and soldier, or even someone who would do any dirty work she might need done. A sign that while Ascot was a kid, he was one who had seen much, done much, and been permanently marked by it.

"But for now," Ascot said as he was finishing his meal, "I'd be happy to help with maintenance and such, even cargo hauling. There's also salvaging derelict wrecks if there are any. But yeah, I'd be happy to work."

The Elucidora jumped, making it's way toward the destination that it had been set, which was Frost's location. It wasn't too far away, and so would only be a short hop. Once there, Molly would be able to find somewhere to set down, and leave it to be refueled. The problem with leaving a ship on the ground like that is that if Molly had to do something that required her to ditch the ship, such as smuggle herself aboard a different ship, the Elucidora would be left on it's own. Thankfully, autopilot contributed to that, and Molly could remotely set a destination for it. Failing that, she could put in a request for retrieval, and there were multiple ways of which that could play out.

A chime through her headset let Molly know that the call had been accepted by that of whom Molly was calling - Frost. Technically, there were not two individuals on the line, but three - as she was not in deep cover, Harpy would likely be having it's ear in on the conversation. Upon Frost speaking, asking who was calling, Molly nodded her head in acknowledgement. She recognised the voice - of course, it was easy enough to spoof a voice, but the contact was being made very long after Frost had contacted the White Ashes, likely faster than Frost expected. Whichever Contact Handler had picked up the call had spun it off to it's needed places, a brief report being dumped into the Library and a quick quip with Molly's latest Handler, who had passed it down to her.

"The Wicked Falcon, she who sows chaos where she soars," Molly responds. She could easily have just replied that it was the Wicked Falcon and left it at that, but she had to amuse herself somehow. "Anyone peeking into this conversation that shouldn't be?"

So, the kid had some kind of plan. It wasn't necessarily much, but she couldn't blame him. Sometimes, that was all you could do. Team up with the Vyexul, huh? Well, yeah, that was a better bet than trying to do it alone. And if he didn't plan on endangering her people or station, that must mean, "so once you go to take care of your business, you won't be back." That wasn't exactly her favorite kind of farewell, but it was what he'd have to do.

"Well, Ascot, we do have a job board that Vortex manages. She basically runs the whole station, I just tell her what to do when she needs instruction. I'll have her set your home terminal up with access. Merchants who want to take shortcuts often want for an escort."

A holoprojector sprang to life in the middle of the table, displaying a recent job posting. As escort request, with a picture of the ship in question. They wanted to go past the planet nearby, but we're nervous to run into the pirates that liked to hang out on the near side of the planet.

"Ah, looks like she's got something for you. How's the maintenance, Vortex?" The display moved, another screen coming up and going over a summary of repairs. Serenity gazed through it as the list scrolled past, picking out a few items and pushing them aside to look at later.

"Looks like she's just about done. Aaah~, she's quick." She was as much satisfied with Vortex's work as she was with herself for building her. "We'll pick up your mech from my hangar."

She had also not taken long to finish her meal. Since she was the station master, the diner would be paid automatically, as Vortex always watches her. "We can pick up your mech from my hangar. Let's go."

Serenity would lead the lad through residential to a security door in a secluded area, "it took years to build all this. Once I got a system set up for ordering my drones to build based on my blueprints, things got moving a lot faster." The door to her private section of the station. She'd made it luxurious, and it was where her private workshop and hangar were. They stepped through the door and onto a scenic bridge crossing over to the manufacturing block. They'd exit the bridge into a small lobby, where she led him to an elevator and called it to go down.

"I'll take it," Ascot said, noticing the fact that Serenity might actually miss him. "Thank you for the job - I'll be taking it." Pressing the button needed to signal agreement, Ascot muttered, "Formalis... That's a real backwater, but I can see why there might be trade goods there."

Going down to the hangar where Ashbringer was, Ascot found himself in a surprisingly good mood as everything seemed to be going well for him. Serenity was a gracious, somewhat caring host and an honest woman - One rare in this region of space. Either way, once back in the hangar, with his mech in close proximity, Ascot said, "So, can I purchase extra rations and supplies for the escort mission?"

A pause, "Wait, the merchant probably has enough space in his ship for the Ashbringer. Does he? And when can I meet this merchant? Also, do give him forewarning that I'm a kid - He might think that's a breach of contract if he finds that his protector is one..."

In the following week...

The cold of Formalis had seeped into the crashed, rimed ships on its surface. Skala wandered about them thinking them to be something curious, but ultimately they were nothing but wonders that served no purpose to the wandering people. As quickly as they appeared, they were lost to the snow. The metal and plasteel that composed their twisted and mangled frames froze and warped as rocks and permafrost pressed further down on them. It would take some considerable effort to dig the snow away from the ships, but all that salvaged material could put a team of scrappers up for months if they got everything they could. This was the break Frost and Vorra had been needing for a while now, low on credits, bad luck, and running from heat. Not good for their type. Vorra found them and all was smooth, though recently the radio chatter on the less well known sides of the airwaves were talking about some white-knight-complex-having federal toady calling himself the "Ivory Flash." Some guy in a huge robot running around clearing places out for the Feds or something. Apparently his robot was packing major heat, wouldn't be good to run into that even if they had a Vrexul communist running with them.

Vorra had picked Frost up after a mildly long explanation explaining their new...arachnoid accomplice as well as carpooling for Molly who they had all met up with. Molly was her usual chill-vibed self around Frost, they hadn't spoken in a while. Frost and Varzyrin worked on getting everyone caught up to speed on the job and what Formalis actually was. It was a little awkward trying to get a Vrexul and two fugitives out of orbit, but then again, it wasn't something any of them weren't used to. once they were all aboard Vorra's ship, Frost got in front of everyone who was gathered around, for the sake of a briefing. She had a glock visible at her hip with a knife and magazines for said glock put up in her coat. While Vorra soared the lot of them through the less regulated pieces of the Federation's skies to get out from under their watch, she spoke to get everyone up to speed. It wouldn't be long before they got there.

Alright, listen up for a second, if I ain't told you already, we're going to a place out of Federal space called Formalis. Vorra says it's colder than hell there but we're going to loot a bunch of federal ships that crashed there. Big ones. They hit lower orbit at a sharp curve and the clouds threw 'em off their game. Pilots'r probably on ice by now but we dunno how much time we'll have until someone sends a rescue team out there or something. The plan is we get down there and take everything that ain't nailed down, haul ass to Kastrack or some other black market where the Feds won't look, split the cash, and go one about life like normal afterwards."

They had all spent a week's worth of time together so everyone by now was well acquainted, on a first name basis and background. Varzyrin was an anti-fed war hero, Molly was an anti-fed spy of a sort and Frost just a straight up criminal with good contacts. Since they were all familiar with one another, they knew everyone was here for the money, and more people meant smaller shares but more ease of shares at all. If anyone wanted to stab someone else in the back, that could put everything in a messy state. Formalis was coming into view on the horizon.

Formalis

A dreary, foggy atmosphere of grays and whites which could barely be seen by the snow clouds. Of far behind the planet was an orange, mopey glow that could debatably be called a sun. This was it. "Okay, we're here, everyone. Get ready fer'a landing." As Vorra hit the landing protocol on her dash, the planet slowly began to grow bigger off the windshield, which was progressively getting foggier and foggier. They emerged from the sky near a valley with the sun high in the clouds, the wind blowing hard against the ship, but unnoticeably so; their targeted place wasn't very far. Formalis was a very quiet place, herds of oryx-esque mammals big enough to mount as steeds lept away over hills into peace as they descended. Off in the distance stood high, stoic mountains that broke the pale background with their dark, gleaming colors. There wasn't much in terms of civilization, but humanoid figures could be seen in small groups, off far away with staves to walk through the snow with. Once they made contact with the ground, roughly 30 feet of space between them and the two ships that had crashed, it was time for work. One of the ships was an aerial APC designed for transporting workers, everyone inside being dead with missing bodies. The other was much bigger and bulkier, it was for cargo. One could assume that they were going to set up shop here and take the place over for the government.

"Well, here we are."

Ivory Flash, we have orders for you.

It has come to our attention that various criminals guilty of high treason against our glorious Federation have been spotted orbiting a planet we aim to colonize. Recently the colony we sent there was taken out upon arrival. Whether the vagrants did it themselves or otherwise, we know where they are. Your orders are to pursue them, and get rid of them immediately. Coordinates and information will be sent to your exo-suit's network shortly.

Michael sighed as he saw the message on his omni-tool, and went over to change to his pilot suit before entering his Mech, from where he reviewed the information promised to him. The dossiers shown on the mech's screen gave details of the criminals in question, an Android, a Vyexul, and a few Human subversives - These would not be easy pickings, especially as he was only going to bring one transport and resupply ship with him, one instructed not to try and help him when the combat started. Once said supply ship was safely requisitioned, he would ask its captain to speed all course for Formalis, where he planned to engage a few criminals in a firefight.

After asking them who really killed the colonists on the planet, of course - He had a sneaking suspicion that those specific criminals were innocent of that particular crime. And who knows, maybe Ascot would be there too...

"We're making this quick. The Federation do not lose that much personnel and hardware without raising alarms. There may be other vultures looking to cash in on this as well. Someone stays on lookout duty." The rust-scraping voice of the crew's largest companion grated away warningly. This mission was simple but so was every battle he had been in at heart. Everything else that would happen rarely was.

As Vazyrin finished talking, a series of loud clicks, clacks, and cocking cha-chunks responded as his arsenal (that anyewhere else would be a crew-served weapon) prepared themselves for their task. The huge arthropod stepped forward as his various firearms folded up into compact modular forms and seemingly vanished into his armour. It was dizzying to watch the plethora of alien limbs, each one guided by a single consciousness but working in an interconected series of prodding, shoving, twitching motions while his enormous primary arms and legs moved in some rough approximation of a common biped. At his enormous height, he looked almost to be guarding the landing chute if not for the fact his back was turned.

"The cargo ship will be the main priority. Once we make it in main threat will be security automata; this isn't the first ship I've raided and where humans will break, they do not. That leaves the potential for flesh and blood survivors on board and if so..."

He turned his long, mandibled skull to face Vorra and Frost.

"Rules of engagement, if you please. For surviving crew and unwelcome visitors. I'll leave it to you to decide who stays on watch duty."

It was not an expected sight if you were to see it, but on a distant ridge connecting to a small plateau lay a transport, landed and fully functional. Though it looked like it wasn't used to support long term organic flight, meaning it had already been stripped or something entirely different. The somewhat free floating spherical thruster at the back rotated itself downwards and fired just for a few seconds, melting away any snow that covered the ground around it. This seemed to happen periodically, every time snow crept into a certain radius of the ship. Though it was odd to see that nothing was entering or exiting it. It was most certainly something that had not been left there. So who, or what was it? That was certainly the question.

It was unpainted, and looked like it had not touched a planet, in a long time. The blade like model giving it a sleeker and flat look. The engine sphere had full range of motion through some kind of technological wizardry, and the ship was big enough to house at least four people to orbit and back at a time. It didn't appear armed from that distance, but it was most likely retractable hardpoints for EM cannons, slow but pack a punch against smaller targets. It's behavior seemed more automated and robotic than it did organic and human, activating at specific and exact distances the snow seemed to creep in at instead of time based, suggesting that it's sensors were wired to a program firing the thrusters on a low power to keep components from freezing.

Formalis - Touchdown | Local Time Unknown | Aboard the Pegasus

"Alright, Victor. You know the drill. Get us in there safely, and make sure you land the ship as close as you can, but on a safe place."

" Understand, Vorra. You can leave it to me. "

Vorra stood up from her seat and walked to her personal cabin. The last week was difficult for her, to say the least. The Pegasus was rarely packed this full of persons. And to say that their crew was diverse was the understatement of the year. At first, their quirks annoyed Vorra to no end, but after the week's journey, she got used to them. Upon entering her own cabin, she opened her personal locker, containing her Guardian armor and gear. It took her a few minutes to adorn her white gear with streaks of golden fabric interwoven in them, topped by her purple sashes. She left the hood down for now, attached her sidearm to her hip, her main armament onto her back. She attached her utility belts containing ammo clips just as the ship touched down, with an audible thud, and slight recoil as the landing legs overtook the weight of the ship. Vorra reached for her mask and closed the locker, than went back to the cockpit.

She looked out of the window and saw they were right next to the wreckages they mapped a week ago."Well done, Victor. I want you to use the sensor suite of the ship to be on the look out. You can patch into our comms any time you find something. Also. Victor, initiate mainframe lockdown. Full bionic verification required to override - fingerprints, retinal scan, voice ID. I don't want anyone to mess around with the Pegasus while I'm gone." There was a brief silence before Victor replied. "Understand, Vorra. Mainframe locked down. Initiating surveillance. " Vorra looked out of the window once again before stepping out from the bridge of the ship and managed to intercept Frost announcing their arrival. Then Vazyrin spoke and changed shape in the weirdest way Vorra ever saw. She instinctively placed her hand on her sidearm, despite doubting it would do much against the walking weapon platform. Vorra gave Frost a who the hell did you find look before stepping down.

"Victor stays on the lookout. He'll see more through the Pegasus's sensor suite than all of us combined. We all need to hustle up, it won't be long until the Feds come swarming to Formalis." Vorra than turned to the rest of the crew and placed her right hand on her hip."Vazyrin is right. We should focus on the big one. Use caution in there, even the wrecks can be deathtraps. As for rules of engagement." A pause as she looked at Frost, once again annoyed she could not read her face for what she thinks about. "Security automata are expandable, and salvageable. As for any Federation personal, I'd allow them to surrender. If they refuse to, well, we have no choice." She locked eyes with Frost."But I'm not the boss here. What will it be, Frost"

Xavier crushed another can of energy drink. The crumpled can was bank shot from the wall and into the trash bin whereupon landing Xavier would crack open another one. The fruity scent of the spicy, mango-lime drink filled the air around him. He would sip it slowly as he stood around thinking what to do. Formalis, that was the boonies-ass planet he was heading to. It was rather unfortunate for him, that after already being in a remote sector, that he ended up wrecking his ship on a field of spacejunk flotsam.

Xavier had already preformed maintenance on his blade, cleaned his clothes, and outside of some reorganization and cleaning of his ship he had no intention of doing, he had nothing else to do. He'd exit his ship and pass the airlock into the merchant ship it was attached to. Dressed in sweatpants, sandals, and a faded graphic tee, he wander around. From the corner of his eyes he'd spot one the crewmates that picked up on the distress beacon. "Thanks for picking me up man. I already sent some credits as thanks."

"No problem. You're awfully far from most places, but once we land you should be able to get your repairs done and be back to civilization." The crewmember replied.

Xavier wandered around some more and sat by a window. A large blue and white ball stood amidst the stars and darkness. So this was the planet they were heading to. He'd just sit back and wait for the ship to enter orbit. Minutes would pass and then the ship would rumble as they entered the planet's atmosphere. He'd get ready to go back and change clothing once they landed.

Frost checked her gun's mag near the door as Vorra's ship touched down, her emotionless face told nothing of her instinct to stick to an in-and-out plan. This was unknown territory, even for a neutral planet. "If the crew's still kicking, leave 'em. They're feds anyway, no skin off our backs if they freeze to death while we're here. If we run into somethin' sentient like a human or a Spryzen, keep 'em at a distance- don't shoot unless they're reachin' for a gun. Varzyrin, you're packing the most heat out of all of us, so you're best watching our backs. Rest of us'll set to scrapping things. If it's breathin' leave it. If it's shooting us, light it up." That was the plan. Reactionary self defense only. Frost's tone was clear and concise, she was clearly used to leading operations like this before. As the door opened up to fill the ship with cold, dry mist, Frost took a step out onto the fresh-fallen snow. The dead mass of ships in front of them.

"Alright, let's get grabbing." And so they did.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the ridge...

Dozens of footprints added together more and more, a mass of furs and bodies trudging together towards the noises they heard further away. Skala. Scavengers, to be precise. Word began to circulate that something fell from the sky a good few moons ago, yet to be touched. The Skala making their way past the mountains were nomads, hunters who didn't take to civilization that few ever take to. They were not carrying guns, they had spears, and bows made from nature in anyway they could manage, animal sinew and bone, trees, whatever one could scavenge and work with on Formalis, one did. It would still be a while before the two groups of individuals met face to face. They were too far away in the snow and hills to be seen by their lookout, much less the rest of them. Skala were in great many numbers on this planet, but they had a tendency to cling together in groups, so they were difficult to come across. The noise of an intact spacecraft landing on their planet, which was otherwise dead silent, only perked their ears more than the prospect of unclaimed scavenging.

Vazyrin nodded and immediately made his way across the snow, sinking in deep with his immense weight. It barely seemed to dissuade him as he casually sunk his claws digits into the body of his rifle, causing a wet ripping sound that teetered on the edge of completely bisecting the weapon. That's what wone might think if not for the fact that his carbine began to extend with pale, newborn biomass manifesting in the space between its elongating barrel and slimming body while its stock began to mold as if being forced into the shape of some sort of x-shaped cup-like mass, bracing against his shoulder.

"Get going and stay on the coms. Ping me every five or so minutes. If your coms go down and an emergency happens, make noise and light."

With that, the huge creature advanced and settled on some of the elevated ground, partially shoved upwards from the cratering brought about the crashed vessels. His powerful claws stretched out from underneath his raised gun, shovelling away dirt and snow as he began to burrow into ground, soon partially concealed as he shovelled snow onto the rest of his body with smaller rear legs with brush-like claw-digits.

Soon, he looked little more like a rock formation himself, keeping a close eye on the vast plains. Subtly, a group of six or so flat-bodied creatures crept out from the snowy pile. Two skittered off to the crashed ships, climbing atop for a better vantage point and the remaining four split off to form a perimeter around the area.

"I've set up my surveillance. I'll let you know if I detect anything unusual."

"Vortex will take care of arrangements. The merchant will be waiting for you in the spaceport, but you can probably just rendezvous on departure." The elevator door opened and quickly and she let Ascot board with her before taking the elevator to the hangar bay, beneath her workshop. Vortex should have already had the mech ready to go. "If you want to purchase supplies, I suppose Vortex could also load your supplies for you. She'll figure it out."

The elevator opened to reveal the hangar, and there it was, the Ashbringer. "Alright, kid. I think that merchant is ready to leave when you are. Be careful out there." She'd stay by the elevator, letting the kid walk to his mech and waiting until he got in before she'd get back in the elevator. She needed to review Vortex's report and get to work on her designs.

~~~
The coming week was enough time for her to finish designing an upgrade to one of her builders. Nothing major, just some performance optimizations. She'd started construction on the new residential section, and had plans to convert the existing one into dedicated food productions once work on the new one was complete and everyone moved over. That'd also put her personal quarters behind tighter security, something she wasn't opposed to.
For the moment, she was taking a break from things. A nice stroll through the park in residential was what the mind needed. For all the trees, though, there wasn't any wildlife... She missed the sound of birds and forest critters. Maybe she'd have to arrange for some. Would they live happily here, though? If she wanted to bring animals here, they should be able to live well. Sounded like she'd have to balance an ecosystem, and that sounded like a nightmare.
Ascot
Ascot knew how to seem to be calm and professional, especially when encountering a merchant who was skeptical of his ability to guard his craft and his wares - He knew that everyone would not have heard of the infamous 'Ashbringer'. So he took advantage of the fact that his mech was only 4.51 meters tall to pilot the mech directly to where the merchant's ship was, and only then reveal his true identity as a child mech pilot. That plan worked, and so the boy spent the following week acting professional, being professional, and yes, spending his time eating his vegetables, calorie bars, and some candy (he was still a kid, after all).
Apparently, the Merchant was transporting supplies to a colony/settlement on Formalis, a colony they found out had already disappeared just as they arrived on the planet. Much frustration was there to be had, and Ascot found himself collecting early pay, sending news back to Serenity through FTL comms that he was all right (he felt he owed it to her), and then rejecting the Merchant's offer to transport him back to Serenity's station - He didn't feel like he should put the lady in any more danger. And by 'any more danger', he was planning to investigate what had caused the colony to disappear ans try and see if it can help in his quest to rescue his parents from the Federation...
Or if it was a threat to that quest as well as the Federation's own 'endaevors'.
Michael
Michael had spent the week travelling to Formalis as well on the ship the Admiral lent him, his plan still being to go to the criminals, threaten them into telling him who actually caused the colonists to vanish, and then offer a truce to find out whoever made the colonists vanish and start a firefight when the truce was over or if they do not agree to it. If the latter, he was going to have to target the Vyexul first, as the heavily-armed alien criminal was almost as big as Light's Wrath. Then perhaps the androids or whichever subversive brought a rocket launcher. But more on that later - Right now, he was planning to stay out of surviellance range of the estimated landing spot of the criminals and wait for them to get complacent with whatever they are doing before swooping in...
The ship on a distant plateau, having landed and not fallen like the wreckage and was clearing snow out from under it occasionally, opened its hard points as a small life sign crept towards it. The cannons waited for it to come close enough then fired, vaporizing the furry rodent on contact. It wasn't loud, but it echoed, very softly. Not loud enough at a distance for a human to hear without assistance, anything more sensitive would definitely pick it up though. That and a small burst of non-harming EM radiation from the heated air around it, probably causing a dim flash. Most certainly odd for a planet that was supposed to be deserted of advanced life, although it could certainly be a misfire from a wreckage, but it was still too early to know.
Now that Var had set up sentry detail around the place, they were ready for grabbing. "Alright, get t'snagging whatever ain't nailed down, let's start with that carrier first. And keep a gun handy, might be someone clinging to stuff inside still." "With that, the crew fell upon the downed vessels, taking every valuable thing they could from arms to goods. Frost went to the carrier’s cockpit first, it seems it came into orbit at a narrow angle, so it skidded across the ground very smoothly, but the winds knocked the glass out as it tumbled through the upper atmosphere. The cargo ship actually had a pretty good shot at survival, but the weather made the force of the crash too much to bear. If anything wasn’t taken out from the original shockwave of smacking the ground in a ship, the cold and something else would.
Frost ducked under some shards of glass to dive into the cockpit, the whole ship was turned somewhat on its side, enough to walk, but awkwardly so. The pilots were gone, literally and figuratively, and all the electronics were blown out, the heat from electrical shortages melted some of the snow, and water damage salted the wounds. Wires were hanging from the mangled thing. There wasn’t much to see here. Overall, the entire thing looked to be roughly a size and a half bigger than the Pegasus. What they needed to get to was the heart of the derelict vessel, where crates upon crates of supplies would be stashed. ”Headin’ in deep from the front, nothin so far. Who’s got the APC?” She asked over the comms they brought (did they?) just for this. The whole thing was dark and chilly, every now and then the overhead lights would flicker, but the scarring along the hull let in enough light to see. After a bit of trudging through wreck and snow, she found the cargo bay, the lower half of the ship, where dozens of dozens of crates were stored. ”Found the goods.”
While everyone was smashing and grabbing, the Skala had rounded the mountain and crossed the openings, there were roughly 10 to 12 in an on-foot convoy coming into view as a blur to anyone without any kind of scope or camera. Maybe Varzyrin had some sort of telescopic tech in his broody, fleshy circuits he was yet to inform the group about. They were coming closer and closer, one could give them maybe another half hour before they came into the immediate vicinity of the downed ships. They appeared to outnumber the scavenging criminals a good deal, but none of them were very well armed. Not even half of them had a spear, or some manner of walking stick in hand, and the rest carried a sack or something to contain something over their shoulders. One stood a few feet in front, a large and bulky one with a stout spear in hand. The rest of the Skala appeared to be following the front one. They were heading for the crash to observe the area. Perhaps they could snag something to, you tend to take what you can find on Formalis.
Meanwhile, there was no one inside the ship to ping the radar, so they could not notice that a large, electromechanical signal was being emitted from a particularly high wavelength machine of federal design hovering only a mile outside of Formalis’ upper atmosphere. The Ivory Flash was on the trail of the group. From where he was above the skies of the planet, Micheal was unable to see anything whatsoever through the vast and snowy clouds that churned throughout the air of the planet. There was no way to discern ground from sea, as it was all a solid, hazy white. The federal agent would only be able to get a clear view of the place upon entry, which could run the risk of Varzyrin’s sentries picking up on something in the sky.
Ascot
The ship on a distant plateau, having landed and not fallen like the wreckage and was clearing snow out from under it occasionally, opened its hard points as a small life sign crept towards it. The cannons waited for it to come close enough then fired, vaporizing the furry rodent on contact. It wasn't loud, but it echoed, very softly. Not loud enough at a distance for a human to hear without assistance, anything more sensitive would definitely pick it up though. That and a small burst of non-harming EM radiation from the heated air around it, probably causing a dim flash. Most certainly odd for a planet that was supposed to be deserted of advanced life, although it could certainly be a misfire from a wreckage, but it was still too early to know.
Ashbringer's sensors picked up the burst of radiation and Ascot, making a decision, flew the Mech to the source of the strange signal. As the mech moved closer, the young man sensed another mind drawing near, one clearly not human, but similar enough. As for A-150 Shikishima, he'd see the approach of Ashbringer and if he cross-referenced it with various mech models, he can find out that this was a machine like no other, a machine which was powered by raw psionic force and not just natural heat and electricity.
Then Ascot, realizing that his apprroach could be taken as hostile, said through the comms, "Hey, mind if we talk? A colony here just went missing and I am trying to find out what caused it. Can I ask if you know anything about it? If not, would you mind if I search the area near you?"
A pause, "And finally, you have a ship - Can I pay for passage on it later?"
Michael
Michael the Ivory Flash, seeing the clouds block him, decided to have Light's Wrath enter the area, taking his chances that he can threaten the criminals to talk with him in exchange for not being obliterated right away. As he broke through the lower atmosphere, finally coming into sight range, Michael tried to land some ways away from the criminals' expected position in order to keep himself hidden a few seconds longer. But if that attempt failed, he'd wait for them to hail him - They should realize the folly of shooting at him right way, after all...
The hard point's were automated somewhat it looked like. The ship itself, was humming very very softly. Slowly the hydraulics hissed, and a ramp lowered, a suited android walked out, looking very hesitant, hiding behind the weapons of the ship and its armor. He had vague data on the mech abilities, and it was obviously out of his ability to damage so his only option was diplomacy.
"Colony? I don't have any information on a colony... Who are you, what do you want? I am armed and I won't hesitate to use everything at my disposal, even if that means launching a neutron beam from orbit, which believe me I'll do." The android was obviously scared, voice wasn't damaged, but it sounded heavily synthetic with an odd feeling like it was being forced to stay on a certain pitch occasionally.
"What's the deal with coming here... When I scanned this planet there was nothing like your technology within its sphere of influence, especially after throwing myself free of a comet. What a crappy place, I'm not sure where I am, or how long I've got before that stupid junction works."
Ascot
Ascot decided not to contest the Android's absurd-seeming claim about a neutron beam, and said instead, "This is the planet Formalis - It's normally primitive but people tried to colonize it and vanished. Not just that, but there are a lot of crashed ships here and salvagers sometimes come here for scrap metal and other supplies."
A pause, "I and my mech can help repair your ship if it's damaged, sir - I've had to do a lot of my own repair work during my days wandering alone." He sounded just like a child, which he was. "Either way, if you want me to leave you alone, I will as well!"
"No, no, its not damaged, I'm just resetting the phase buffers. My shielding is off by a few terahertz and it sucks because one thing that can damage it will, and this transport ship isn't exactly the most maneuverable."
The android stepped out and pulled the helmet off.
"Of course I wasn't kidding when I said I'd use a neutron beam from orbit. I've got Another ship in orbit. No crew. I'm the only one who can control that ship right now. Every single aspect is linked here to me. Just come out here and get out of the mech. It's scary. Even for someone like me."
