Hey everyone,

I've looking for 1-3 other ladies to play 'cops and robbers' with. I'm a huge fan of the Batmans vs. Joker kind of aesthetic, and would really enjoy making a fun game with you revolving around our own superheroes and supervillains. There is also a loose plot I have in mind, but I definitely want to focus more on character interaction and what your character is willing to do to meet their goals, and what they will do with a barrier blocking them from that goal.

Game Ratio - Heroes vs. Villains:
1 v 1
2 v 1
3 v 2 (always slightly more heroes than villains)

Setting:
A large metropolitan city with a Chicago-feel.

Background:
Our world is essentially normal... except for them. Exceedingly rare, 1 in 100,000 people either born with or came to have from strange circumstances, inhuman abilities such as flight, moving objects with their mind, or speaking without saying a word. The general public has become more fearful over the years with metahumans using their powers for evil, terrorizing the streets until the government was forced to make meta abilities strictly illegal.

However, enforcing the law has become something else entirely.

The gap between those with power, and those without has never been so wide, and both the metahumans and the police force know it. They struggle to keep up with the lesser criminal metahumans and are scrambling for new tactics to capture stronger criminals. This has only empowered the criminal metahumans, and some have gone so far as to earn themselves titles and dubbing themselves as supervillains.

Most metahumans fall into obscurity, neither using their abilities in the open nor attracting attention to themselves. It's a dangerous world for them, now that society is freakishly on edge with anything regarding meta abilities. When they are eventually discovered, it is rare they live peaceful lives, and the disappearances are more and more common.

Other metahumans have taken justice into their own hands, tired of seeing innocent people suffer at the hands of the tyrannous. Having to hide their identities while attempting to sabotage the supervillains has sparked a glimmer of hope in the youth of the city. The heroes and villains have become the object of hate, greed, and love in the city as families clamour around their sets, watching the late-night news give poorly captured footage of battles with masked foes, the villains, and the superheros.

Closing notes:
The aim is to have a fun game. Cheesy one-liners, flashy entrances, running around and causing a mess - and then running from the cops together. And then dealing with society's backlash, as the police utilize more and more effective capturing techniques. And there will only be so much time until the mega supervillain shows itself, and it's game over.

I'm interested but I'm wondering, is this mostly focused on combat encounters and some cheesy superhero fun or is this more of serious kind of endeavour with lots of focus on roleplaying.

I guess what I'm asking is from a scale of 60s Adam West Batman to the dreary cynical attitude of something like Watchman what kind of tone are we going for?

I gotta ask why ladies only... Other than that, can we only play female characters? I tend to prefer playing male characters, but I could play a girl.

Comfort I would imagine. Same reason a lot of D&D games are female only. Those involved want to feel safe and have too many experiences with male roleplayers being extremely creepy and/or otherwise not fun to work with.

@Lady Seraphina Leaning more toward Watchman, but enjoyable for the player piloting their OC in a plot with increasingly higher stakes. I would like the Us vs. Them preface to be the undercurrent while each player is petitioned by the supporting cast to do something right or wrong. And that causes the players to cross paths repeatedly through the plot while their goals are in direct conflict. It would make for some good fight scenes, right?

Does that answer your question? I will be making an OOC that goes into deeper detail.

@Shu Thanks!

@WolfredWolf I have no issue with ladies and guys roleplaying together. But aren’t there times when you like having just guys around? It goes both ways.

The characters can be any gender, yes.

Further question, on a scale between Watchman and the DC Animated Universe (Batman Animated, Superman Animated Justice League and Justice League Unlimited etc) where are we in terms of tone?

Does that mean the game is designed to facilitate a fair amount of PvP?

@Estylwen I’m going to start brainstorming. Would a martial artist ninja chicc with a whimsical sense of humor work?

What power level are we looking at? Are we doing like a Superman Vs Zod, gods among men type powersets. Or are we more Batman Vs Mr Freeze where their powers are destructive but they aren't bringing a building down in a single punch.

I have an idea for a ghost themed heroine with phase shifting powers, I'm wondering if that would be underwhelming.

@Lady Seraphina

This clip from The Dark Knight gives an idea of the tone envisioned. Definitely going for a Gotham with gas-slicked, dark streets.

I am envisioning a fair amount of PvP, but I think it'll enrich the plot. Characters who lose always have the best growth, so I want to make the results rewarding, no matter who wins or loses.

@Shu +10 points for style. Let's go for it, I'll PM you a CS. :)

You have the right idea, Batman Vs. Mr. Freeze. A lot can be done with a low-mid level skill, and I find the willpower behind the actual superpower shines more when the power level is a bit lower. The character shines more.

+10 points for atmosphere. I'll send you the CS. :)

1x Thank Thank
