Would anyone be interested in playing a game of Urban Shadows?

Urban Shadows is a PbtA game meant to simulate urban fantasy, think The Dresden Files, Iron Druid, Vampire the Masquerade.

I'd be looking for maybe 4 players.

@Penny I'm in.

EDIT: How steep is the learning curve? I'm extremely intuitive with tabletop systems and fantasy is a weakness of mine.

I will throw my hat into the ring, though no pressure if you find someone more suitable.

@Penny I'm genuinely intrigued to see how the game works, how similar is it to VtM?

@Dark Cloud It is thematically similar, but the rules are much much easier and players have a great deal more narrative control

I'm personally interested in urban fantasy theme, but depends on how the things on my side go, I might participate or merely subscribe to the thread.

Interested. Trying to get into PBtA games in general, and I've heard good things about Urban Shadows. I'd love to play urban fantasy, as long as it doesn't cross that invisible line into paranormal romance. Don't really have the chops for that anymore.

@Humble1 Urban shadows has an intimacy mechanic but it doesn't do romance. Intimacy doesn't need romantic and tends to be a double edged sword at best.

PBtA translates to "Powered by the Apocalypse." They're a loose family of tabletop games inspired by the game Apocalypse World. They're about a zillion of them right now, but in general, each tries to create a certain type of story. So "Monster of the Week" creates a game that feels like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Masks" create a teenage superhero story, "The Warren" simulates Watership Down, "Brindlewood Bay" is Murder, She Wrote with a hit of Lovecraft, etc.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powered_by_the_…

"Urban Shadows" is one of the more popular games in the family: magpiegames.com/urban-shadows

"Urban Shadows is a game about cities, the people who live in them, and the machines that make them run. It’s a political game, one that challenges preconceptions about conflicts between communities, and asks players to navigate complex identities in a demanding social structure. It is personal and political for mortals and monsters alike."

@Humble1 Oh, I do love this concept; I want to play some kind of up-and-coming mobster or small-time gang leader. It's kinda a personal power fantasy I have. I just love the idea of climbing the rungs of the criminal underworld and try my best reaching it's top.

No the rules the players have to care about are very short. They are referred to as the playbooks. The are available freely but it is tough to search with my current internet.

Chapter 4 starting at page 80 is all players really need to be concerned about. When/if we get started I will post move summaries, but it is extremely simple compared to most TTRPGs. There really is no way to game the system mechanically so I suggest just doing what sounds cool. Good advice for life really.
