<Sheets>
A very young resistance fighter, circa 1944.
TL;DR List
- World War II, occupied Vichy France, late 1943
- Épernay, a railroad town between Paris and Strasbourg (which is currently German)
- Characters will be teenaged (14-17) members of a resistance cell
- Why kids? Because the Germans are less likely to suspect.
- Advanced standards
- Characters do not start with guns and ammo. C'mon.
In Character Info
In 1940, France is defeated by Germany and brought under the rule of a puppet government of Philippe Petain. Despite the swift and overwhelming victory of the Wehrmacht, many French people resolve to fight out of their homes, in their own back yards, against a foe that seems invulnerable to defeat. Meanwhile, the German occupation forces, the Vichy Milice (armed militia) and the dreaded Gestapo hunt them down. They don't have the power to fight the Germans in a toe to toe battle, but they can gather intelligence, perform the odd bit of sabotage and provide aid and succor, and escape, to downed Allied airmen. It is a desperate time that calls for desperate measures; the members of the French resistance can't even be sure of themselves, ever wary for a betrayal from within. Despite this, men, women and even children aid the resistance, knowing the penalty, knowing that someone could inform on them and turn them over to the Germans -- to be interrogated, tortured, sent to the camps, perhaps even shot on the spot. The odds are very uncertain, the goal itself is desperate, but despite these seemingly insurmountable obstacles, some choose to do what they can.

In this RP, we're focusing on the kids -- teenagers that are school aged. Their cell, the basic unit of the resistance wherein all the people know each other, is headed by an adult, perhaps a schoolmaster or a priest, and are primarily tasked with gathering intelligence. They count heads, they learn information, they watch the Germans and Vichy come and go. They don't know where the information goes and who it goes to, but they gather it because someone says its important. They relay messages, they bring weapons to people. They are part of the backbone of a movement, and more will eventually be demanded of them as the odds get more desperate...
This won't be a violence free RP, since it is a dark and gritty subject matter. The reason to do kids is simple -- someone of my acquaintance mentioned the Churchill Club, Danish teenagers that did the same thing we're describing here. This happened in France, and it happened often; by 1944, there were French teenagers of the age group we're talking about ambushing German troops in parts of France. So this is not some 'oh, you're putting too much on teenagers here' situation -- this happened. This is history.
