Dean nodded at the words that Mika wouldn’t want him to give up on her, another tear slipping down his face as he leaned back, “I know…”
He took a drink of his beer and let out another small sob at he images crossing behind his eyes. Pulling himself together, he listened carefully to her words. Then she said something that caused his tears to stop and his eyes to raise from the table, “What did you just say?”
He waited for a response, as the same memories she was sifting through came flooding back through his memory. His eyes were almost on fire as he thought through them, and realized that she shouldn’t even know about these things, unless she and Mika were closer than she had stated.
“What did you say about our time together? I’ve never told you about that…”, he muttered, not looking her in the eyes, “I’ve never told anyone about that, not even Sammy.”
——
Anna was taken aback by the sudden hug, as she wasn’t an affectionate person. She slowly allowed her arms to slide up his back, under his arms. She rested her chin on his shoulder, and took a deep breath, instantly relaxed in his arms.
“Dammit. You just had to hug me.”, she whispered in his ear with a smile, “I just can’t imagine another world, where I’m not sucked into my mom’s crazy. Where I don’t have to deal with her creepy friends, always staring at me like meat.”
She then saw an opportunity, “Let’s leave. Right now…I have a hundred bucks socked away. We can go…”
She pulled away and looked into his eyes, her own scanning his for validation.
