Character-wise, I'm looking at an eccentric, maybe a little paranoid, but quite cocky and witty 'magical engineer'. Basically he incorporates magic into equipment and machineries, or the other way around, creating all sorts of weird but practical stuffs like magic sensors or magic-powered automations. Power-wise, he's nowhere near the magic power of the strongest witch/wizard/magician of the world, but his pragmatism can bridge that gap. I'm considering between him being a native or a computer-programmer isekaied, but just throwing it out there for now.
@Conscripts Hm. Yeah, I'm liking the concept, but I can see why fleshing it out would be a challenge. I think your signature is relevant here - he needs to have some burning desire in life, I think, in order to be a more compelling character.
Oh! I just had an idea. What if he discovered a technologically advanced, ancient, organic battle-golem, and his life's work is to restore it to full power so he can marry it? It would give him a reason to learn both magic and technology, and love can be a powerful driver.

I feel like Newt would be your characters A) Best Friend or B) Biggest Pain in the Ass, because your magical and he would constantly be "O great wizzy magiker, how cast boom magic?"
@Enkryption Your character need not be a "villain," just an "antagonist." The antagonist should always be the hero of their own story. My character, the Witch, is actually trying to do the world a favor, but everyone opposes her because they don't understand what she's trying to accomplish and aren't on board with her methods. I'm perfectly happy to play such a character because I feel like she's "heroic" in her own way.
"Antagonist" and "Villain" are two sides of the same coin, but I feel you. I suppose, that judgment will be made with the character submission.
@Conejitoooo I was wondering, instead of Dexter being a reincarnated human turned demon or native to the Isekai could he be a Demon being punished and sent to the world because he was a demonic failure?
Original World: Used to live and work in Tokyo, Japan
Appearance: When he was still a 'normal human' living in Tokyo he was tall and lean, with short but messy dark hair. Dark brown eyes that always look tired and a friendly smile on his lips. Feeling most comfortable wearing shirts with all kinds of prints, baggy pants and sneakers. In this New world he is a bit shorter, standing at 5'3 with long brown hair in a ponytail, yellow-green eyes and even though the tired look is gone from his gaze, the friendly smile did stay. He wears now a gray blueish tunic, linen pants with leather shin boots, a red battered and weathered cloak. On his shoulders are steel spaulders, his arms and hands leather gauntlets reinforced with steel, 2 leather belts with pouches on his waist and hard leather shin guards.
Personality: In the old world, he was not as heroic as the character he had created, rather walking away from fights or trying to talk his way out of it. Often careful who to agitate or not to agitate. Though kind-hearted and willing to help others was a trait he shared with Yakeru. Being Yakeru in this new world however gave him more confidence and his know-how of the adventures his character used to be in and the fighting abilities made that he became more brave. Still his carefulness is ever present, not truly grasping what he is capable of in his new form, his new identity. His self doubt often standing in the way of his deeds.
Backstory: He used to a mangaka of a fantasy web/light novel called: 'Yakeru, kanpai!' or 'Cheers Yakeru!' , which was fairly popular and got him some internet fame. It told the tale of sixteen year old Yakeru, mercenary and adventurer whose base of operations is a rundown tavern. Along the way Yakeru meets several people who decide to join him on his adventures. You know. Saving the world, kissing the princess. The works. After several years however Hakaru decides to end the tale of Yakeru and starts to focus on another project. Even though fans are pleading, asking, if not demanding to continue, he kindly refuses, believing that 'Yakeru, kanpai!' had a long enough run and that the story was simply told.
One day however he gets shot and killed by a disappointed(read: crazy) fan, outside a store after shopping. He wakes up in a world not his own same as the body he is in, instead he looks exactly like the character of his creation: Yakeru. Confused about what had happened to him, he decides to make the best of the situation and it sure beats dying. Or is he dead? His head filled with questions, yet no one to answer them.
This was not the world he had created and it was not his story. But perhaps it could become HIS story. A new life as the hero. He kinda liked that idea.
But a troubling thought crossed his mind and kept lingering: What if, when he dies in this world, he stays dead?
Skills/Talents: Some knowledge of fantasy worlds, races, etc. from his years of writing. Since he arrived in this New World, he got granted the skill of swordsmanship. The same as the hero of his creation.
Powers/Abilities: Quick/short distance teleport, not perfected yet but for now he can use it to dodge out of the way of attacks.
Items: Simple sword, which he carries on his back, with a dark red hilt, the crossguard shaped to slightly cover his hand on both sides and engravings on the blade. His armor. Cloak. Whetstone.
Other: Burning desire: To live the life of a hero with all the trials and benefits that comes with it.

The Horde is bent on consuming as many living souls as possible; if you're too weak, or take the mortals' side, they'll devour you so as not to waste mana. So Dexter may be a weak Voidspawn who escaped his gruesome fate and took a fallen body on his way out.

Oh that ones cool. I like the idea of being obsessed over this thing, but not gonna lie it sounds a bit creepy when put that way. Not to worry though, I do have similar backstory ideas to justify this obsession. I can go into PMs if you guys wanna know. Thanks though! Brainstorm I shall continue.

^ I like that suggestion a lot, it feels more cohesive than my original plan. Plus my inspiration for Dex was character archetypes like Zim and Moxie voiced by the same guy who voiced Zim.

Emotion Manipulation:Dexter can sense pride and happiness in people and animals, and can instill positive emotions within people by increasing their brains dopamine. However he can only really use his ability for focusing on one individual at a time.

Before he was brought to this world Dexter was a being from a place known as the Void where his kind lived, but it wasn't an easy way of life for most of it's inhabitants. If you were weak, you were consumed for your mana and the only escape from such brutality was a fate worse than death. The only way of leaving this way of life is by giving up one form for that of a fallen body, and in the end Dexter decided to sacrifice everything to escape being consumed for his mana...
