Astera

Built from the frames of the First Fleet ships that landed at this rocky shoreline, Astera has stood tall against the threats and challenges of the New World.

The bustling settlement-headquarters hybrid of Astera was, like on any other hot summer day, alive with activity. Hunters, citizens, and merchants gathered at the city's lowest level, where the voices of commerce blended with the soft crashing of waves below the scaffolding. Above them, workshops on the eastern cliffsides worked tirelessly to keep this well-oiled machine in motion, especially to build more homes within the Waterfall District, in accommodation to the newly arrived Sixth Fleet. Further reaching towards the sky sat the Commission's Gathering Hall, a colossal sea vessel perched upon the top of the cliffs. There, hunters and guild officials met with each other and clientele to maintain the Research Commission's modus operandi: to research and protect the ecosystem of the New World.

High above Astera, sailing across the blue was a shining star, bright enough to see even on this sunny cloudless day. Known as Prismata's Comet, the rainbow-colored beacon of light soared majestically across the sky. The great dome of blue above was decorated with tiny streaks of light, all different colors cascading down towards the earth. Truly it was a beautiful sight, one that the people across the Old World celebrated once every one hundred years, and that tradition lived on with vigor here in the New World. All of Astera was adorned with prismatic lanterns, ribbons, confetti, and music in reverence of the comet's arrival. It was a once-in-a-lifetime event and nightly stargazing parties were the normal for the past two weeks. Not being immune to such jubilation, the Gathering Hall granted the best view of the Starfall in all of Astera, and as such was outfitted to accommodate larger occupancies.

It is here in the Gathering Hall that our story begins, hunters both new and old eating, conversing, celebrating, and last but not least, registering for missions. Today, one such urgent quest has been found occupying the center of the main board, ensuring it wouldn't be missed:

Urgent: Prismatic Meteor Investigation!

It has been a century since the comet's last visit, and this time, the Prismatic Starfall has left us with more than a light show. Reports from our field scouts verify that a meteor has crashed somewhere north of the Everstream, deeper into the New World than we've dared to travel...
Until now, get out there hunters!

Calling a small reconnaissance group of hunters to head to the suspected landing site of the meteor. Triangulation has placed it somewhere far north, beyond the Elder's Recess and the Guiding Lands. We know there is more to the New World than we have explored thus far: and you will also be tasked with mapping any previously uncharted land.

Speak to Dr. Paeris Daelen of the Geological Research Department for a mission briefing before departure.

-New World Research Commission

At the bottom of the parchment, was the listings of the standard legal jargon, as well as the written promise of a handsome sum of zenny. Beneath that laid a few blank spaces upon which for hunters to sign themselves up.

Squall & Trygve

Astera Gathering Hall
Interactions:

"This festival is Gnarly-cuga!"

The Gathering Hall was packed for the festivities. Squall managed to push his way through his fellow hunters, his fellow palico companion, Trygve, hanging off his shoulder as to not get lost or stepped on with how crowded it was. Squall and Trygve arrived to the New World a year prior, looking for new adventures and fearsome monsters to hunt. Most of the work they had done had been the fairly routine of what the Guild had given back in the Old World, though it was more for research purposes then protecting a village from a dangerous monster. It was satisfying work but he iched for something more and hearing of the newest request that had found itself to the main request board, he was all but eager and willing to show his worth. Who knows maybe he could be as good as the legendary Sapphire Star from long time back. Doubtful but one could have lofty ambitious and Squall at times had some pretty lofty ones. Thus why Trygve was his companion, to balance out the ambitious hunter. Where Squall was a man of action, Trygve was more tactical and observant. They had learned to be a good team together even if they butted heads from time to time.

The duo reached the board reading what it said and who to talk to before leaving the crowded gathering hall. While tempting to join the festivities, he didn't want to miss out on his chance on such a rare opportunity.

"Need potions," Trygve stated while they made their way to Dr. Paeris Daelen.

"Yes I know," Squall replied with a slight sigh. He was thankful the palico was methodical but every adventure out was a chore with such a checklist. Of course the one time he didn't listen had him ending up on a cart back to Astera so it was better to listen then to object his companions advice. The sigh however earned a light thump to the back of his head.

"You know I could just leave you hear right," Squall responded, placing the palico down.

"Ha! You be lost without me. Die within ten seconds," Trygve responded while walking back on the ground, now that the crowds were slightly thinner, expertly dodging and weaving between other people's feet with ease.

"Knew I should of got one of those palamutes instead. Less talking back from them," Squall joked, while Trygve swatted his leg as the made their way to a new adventure that was just beginning for them.

The smell of herbs and moisture was strong this morning. This was one of the few times Domic was lucky enough to be alone at the communal baths while his tub was smaller than most, and lacked a heater, the quiet was something he could only find in his dreams. It was hard for him to connect with his fellow hunters. They seemed so… Jolly. So eager. Most were aces as well. It made Domic feel lesser. Weaker. He couldn’t drag them down to his level.

As he dunked his head into the ice cold water Domic felt his body engulfed once more, and his skin felt like it was burning despite bathing. When he got out his stomach growled and as usual, Domic began chewing on his tongue. The metallic taste teased his hunger. ”Lets eat.” after drying off Domic donned his clothes, followed by his armor, and head to the cantina.

It was loud and bustling. Hunters, handlers, researchers, and Palicos were out and about doing their business. Domic did his best to stay out of the way as he made his way to his table. But as he did, he saw that there were no seats. From all the noise and hubbub, it seemed like everyone was at the gathering hall. All good and seats were there due to the comet. ”Right. Forgot about that.” Domic never much liked the gathering hall. Too far from his gardens. Too many people. But he’ll deal with it. He had to.

Sure enough there were large crowds at the Gathering Hall. So many people coursing, singing, and feasting. Domic ordered some food and went to find a table, though he had to eat with a group of strangers. He minded his business as he ate his meal; a big hunk of roasted wyvern tail, with buttered bread, served with a side of rice with Mosswine brain curry, and a large mug of wyverian brandy. Domic ate heartily as he passively listened to others chat and talk. Apparently there was some big mission going to happen soon. Domic was considering it.

Money’s been a bit tight since Domic commissioned his Super Scattergun. He’s been able to pay his living expanses easy enough via gathering and his garden, but he wouldn’t be able to pay for any equipment upgrades unless he can find a real good bounty. This could be his lucky break. Of course, he might end up having to work with others but… He’ll just have to deal with it. He had to.

At the notice board Domic simply wrote his name in the biggest, newest request. Hearing that something fell from the meteor does sound interesting, though Domic doubts it’s anything too big. Otherwise the older hunters would’ve already been sent out. Domic knew how this usually goes down: eager boobies go out thinking they’ve found a big haul, and fueled by youth they lay down the ground works for a new settlement or research base, but it’ll be years before it yields any results. In the mean time the youth will just clear out the local threats and await further orders. That’s how it usually goes.

”And if it doesn’t… That’s when things get messy.”

After signing up for the job Domic turned to head back to his room. He’ll need to stick up on supplies. Potions, rations, bombs, ammo. They’re heading north so that could also mean cold weather. Fortunately his armor was quite adapt at dealing with the cold, but some hot drinks would be helpful nonetheless. There was also the possibility that once he’s up there, he won’t be coming back to Astera for a while. He’ll need to make arrangements for someone to tend to hos garden and ferry supplies to wherever he’ll be going. A bunch of logistical stuff.

”Work’s never done.”

Jaden

"How did I have overslept???," a confused Jaden exclaimed while in his bed as he realized that it was around noon. Quickly getting out of bed and into clothes. Normally a certain kinsect named Arania would wake him up before it got too late in the day. But, as Jaden was halfway putting on his clothes. He spotted the still sleeping Arania in her bed on a desk. Jaden only sighed as he finished putting on his clothes. "Maybe we should stop staying up so late." Talking to himself as he walked over to Arania. Jaden had been staying up with others as they watched Prismata's Comet. Amazed by the sight of the colorful comet and perhaps stayed up too late last night. Now he and Arania are finally paying for it.

Now standing next to Arania, Jaden started to coax her to consciousness. Speaking softly, "Wake up, Arania, time to wake up." Repeating himself. It felt kinda weird to Jaden since it is Arania that normally wakes him up, and now the tables have turned. Soon enough, Arania's eyes started to open and made a pleasant, almost chirping sound upon seeing Jaden. They say that kinsects do not really form bonds with their owners but with Arania. Jaden feels that that is simply not true. As he gently petted her and as he was done. Arania flew up and landed on his right shoulder. "Good girl Arania," Jaden said happily. Arania replied with an affectionate chirp. "Sorry to wake you up but, we are running late, and I do not want to miss out on that quest."

With that done with Jaden headed to the Gathering Hall. Ready to take in the festivities. It was quite the sight when he arrived to see everyone busy having fun and celebrating. Jaden had half a mind to join them but, he was on a mission. Pushing through the crowd the best he could without disturbing Arania. But she simply flew up and watched Jaden move through the crowd. Until finally, he was at the main mission board. Arania flying down and landing again on his right shoulder.

It did not take long for him to locate the mission he was looking for. He was glad that there was still room for him. When he heard that a big mission was coming and that it was related to Prismata's Comet, Jaden knew that he wanted in and chance as it despite his concern for sleeping in. He can still join, and Jaden wrote his on one of the blank spaces. Letting out a sigh of relief as he finished and thought about visiting the doctor before a rumble came from his stomach. "Ahhh... I did forget to eat breakfast or lunch, rather." Jaden said under his breath as he put a hand on his stomach. Maybe I should eat something before I see Dr. Daelen, he thought. Can't go on a mission to find something in uncharted territory without some food.

So turning around, Jaden went to get some lunch. He is going to need a full stomach on this new adventure, and he can't wait for it to begin.

Purrcival

The morning was busier than usual. The Gathering Hall was a hub of activity- moreso than usual. With Prismata's Comet high in the sky, Astera had been turned into a multi-week festival ground- missions were still ongoing, but for the most part, people were taking it easy and viewing the comet during the day and night. Not for nothing, it was a breathtaking sight to say the least, Purrcival had enjoyed many a night carousing with his fellow felynes, enjoying the merry atmosphere and the lights and colors.

Today was shaking up to be a bit different. The atmosphere was different, there was buzzing about a big mission to investigate a nearby crash site. Probably nothing, but it was a chance for the Research Commission to get information on locations previously undiscovered by the Research Commission. That fact alone had most of Astera interested- not just the hunters, but the Tailraiders as well.

Purrcival and a small group of his fellow Tailraiders were already making their way through the crowded Gathering Hall, the smaller felynes deftly weaving their way inbetween the legs of the human occupants, while the larger Purrcival made a small wake for himself in the crowd. The smallest one was carrying a clipboard with notes, while another two were carrying large packs above their heads.

"Tailraider support is going to be difficult to purrvide for this one," the smaller palico commented idly, her paws scratching something off on the clipboard, "We have no idea about the layout, the possible meownsters, nothing!"

Purrcival let out a low growl, it always felt like the Tailraiders were given the short end of the stick. At least the hunters had the ability to sign up for the missions they wanted to go on- if some hunter and their partners wanted to risk life and paw venturing into unknown lands, that was their purrogative. The Tailraiders didn't have that luxury though, like most of the support staff in the Research Commission, they were meant to make the lives of the hunters easier- even at cost to themselves.

"How are we supposed to respond to SOS flares if we don't know what we're jumping into?" The smaller palico continued, as the group took a seat at a smaller table, closer towards the kitchen. Purrcival nodded as a small group of cooks dropped off palico sized portions of food for them. While not particularly cliquish, the kitchen palicos were always quick to get food out to their fellow felynes, so the Tailraiders never had to wait too long to be fed.

"We should tell the Commission to postpone the mission until we've had a chance to send a scouting party to map the area." the clipboard wielding palico continued between bits of wyvern-sausage and jumbo sized fish.

"This mission is the scouting party," Purrcival reminded her, "Scouting parties always hold the most risk in that regard- that's probably why the reward is so high."

"Mrowr, if the mission is so risky why do we never get hazard pay?" one of the other palicos grumbled. "We're the ones stuck cleaning up the mess if things go wrong."

"Its just business as usual," Purrcival replied, waving a paw dismissively "That's what we signed up for anyway."

Purrcival wiped his mouth with a white paw as he finished his quick and hearty meal. "Anyway, we cant afford to pawddle too long. Get the gear and wingdrakes set, I'm going to go meet with Dr. Paeris"

"Huh? Why are you meeting with the doc?" one of the palicos questioned him, his eyes narrowing suspiciously.

"The good doctor wants me to provide direct suppurrrt for this meowsion" Purrcival replied with a shrug as he got up from the table, stuffing a sausage into his pocket.

"What? How come you get the easy job?" the clipboard wielding palico complained.

"Benefits of being the boss," Purrcival replied with an easy wave as he exited the Gathering Hall. A quick trip to his quarters, to equip his weapons and armor, and Purrcival was on his way to see Dr. Paeris to prepare for the mission briefing.

On the ground-level of Astera, the Research Commission's many departments of sciences and logistics operated in tandem just north of the market plaza. While the Commander's helm overlooked the sea, the rest of the Commission worked against and underneath the waterfall cliffsides. Facing the plaza were the main life-science departments in charge of research into wildlife behavior and the many kinds of fauna and fungi- where hunters and scouts would frequently stop by after quests to report their findings and deliver samples. Faculties that needed less interaction from the hunters and the public as a whole were relegated to scaffolding between the two cliffs that made the waterfall, as well as dug-in tunnels and rooms within the cliffs themselves. In one such series of halls carved into the earth was the office our adventurers would need to make a stop at- the Geological Research Department.

Despite being built from digging out laboratory-sized spaces underground, the series of tunnels and rooms were surprisingly well-lit by way of oil lanterns that hung from the walls and ceiling. The area wasn't very cramped either, as scientists and the few hunters who had business here passed each other comfortably. One by one, those who planned to take on this urgent quest found themselves in front of a door, either pointed there by other scientists, or just stumbling upon it as they searched around. Either way, the door had but a few simple words etched onto a wooden plate that hung from it:

Ashe has only been in the New World for a few months, but she had to admit it was fairly interesting. She thought she's seen it all back where she came from but almost every outing here proved to Ashe there was still more to see. Whether it be hunting some new monster she's never seen or reading up about some endemic life she's never realized existed. Not to mention learning how to use all these new tools and weapons, like the Slinger. "Sure beats throwing rocks by hand." Aside from work, Ashe simply has been spending most of her time making herself comfortable in Astera. She was able to afford her own room and has been working with some palicos to furnish it, as well as move some old belongings from back at home. She's also gotten to know her Handler, the various leaders of the community, and getting a lay of the land.

Finally, everything was settled. Her room was tidy, her accounting was in order, and her gear was in top shape. But Ashe wasn't here to look pretty. She's a hunter first and foremost, and a hunter must hunt. Though with all the celebrations going on, Ashe of course took the time to enjoy herself too. Prismata's Comet wasn't something Ashe was going to miss, and the festival was fun even if she went by herself. Fortunately fun and work could go together, because after Ashe had her fill of booze and food she noticed that there was an urgent quest in the gathering hall. "Exploring unknown lands? Sounds exciting! I can't pass this opportunity up." Writing her name down in the blank spaces, Ashe went back to her room to gather her gear and armor up. She wanted to be ready for this job as soon as possible.

Heading over to the Geological Research Department, Ashe dodged workers and researchers as she made sure her hunting horn didn't bump into anything. Even as spacious as these halls were, these huge weapons can sometimes be a bit cumbersome. It wasn't long before Ashe found Dr. Paeris office, making Ashe wonder if he was okay with being called Dr. Paeris or Daelen. Either way Ashe knocked on the door to make her presence known. "Excuse me, is the Doctor in? My name is Ashe, I'm one of the hunters who's here for the Prismatic Meteor Investigation!"

Squall & Trygve

Geological Research Department - Dr. Paeris Daelen Office
Interactions:

After a minor delay of gathering a few simple supplies, Squall and Trygve proceeded to the Geological Research Department, weaving between the continuous crowded of hunters, workers and researchers. Upon finding the the building, he carefully made his way down the various halls as to not mistakenly poke someone with the giant greatsword currently on his back while Trygve had returned to being on his shoulder as to avoid getting his tail stepped on by any of the busy researchers going to and fro. Upon finding the office he found at least one hunter who probably was there for a similar reason as he.

Whoa! Pretty busy here today. I'm assuming this is the place to meet Dr. Paeris Daelen about that request on the board," Squall stated while Trygve gave a wave from Squall's shoulder before dropping down standing in front of him.

Jaden

"That sure quite a meal if I say so myself." Speaking to no one in particular as he left Gathering Hall with Arania on his right shoulder. She getting some food for herself as well. It sure was good eating, and nice to see people having fun. But, he has to be somewhere, and so Jaden headed straight away to his quarters to get his gear. It did not take long for him to gather his things and made his way down Geological Research Department. Making his way through the busy crowd and Arania took the opportunity to fly above him as not to bump into anyone. Once he arrived and Arania land on his right shoulder. To find that two hunters were already here. Must be his future teammates, he thought.

"Hey, everyone," he said with a big smile. "I take it that you two are here for the same reason I am. The request from Dr. Paeris Daelen."

Filo looked over the nearly endless amount of green bottles all neatly lined up on racks. It was the product of him and some other volunteers taking hours to go through heaps of herbs, mushrooms, and gallons of honey. All to produce both the basic healing potion and it's more potent brother, the mega potion. Despite these being something a novice learns to concoct on the field, the Astera general supplies store was there for a reason. And with its existence came the people who labored to create its inventory of supplies.

"Alright I got my share of the potions done. Standard at the top racks and the megas on the lower ones." He'd say to the supervising Felyne.

"Purr-fect! Don't forget you're entitled for a couple of these yourself on top of the meal vouchers for volunteering to this. And thank you for your coopurration" The Felyne replied.

"No, but thank you. Honestly I just need to give more honey samples to the farm, starting to run low on it." He said with a smile. Filo definitely burned through it on making higher end consumable, but really he was burning through it to make gallons of mead he kept in pots to ferment in the heat. The next batch would be done at the end of the month and he was looking forward to tasting it.

As Filo passed through the storehouse built into the rock, he'd pass by an elderly wyverian. "Hey sonny, the geological department is looking for volunteers to do some sort of scouting mission. Seems like a better use of your talent than doing some gruntowork for greenhorns." Se'd say with a smile.

"Anything for a free meal or three, but I'll take a look. Been a while since I've had some fun in the field." Filo replied fanning himself with the tickets.

The wyverian would chuckle as he left her and headed to the geological department. It wouldn't take too long for him to find it. Filo had gained a intimate knowledge of the more background operations of Astera given he had many tasks involving taking things or talking to the various people on behalf of others. Dr. Paeris Daelen the sign would say, and he'd push the door and see there three other hunters. They seemed younger and were also ready to deploy from the likes of it. Unlike him, who was dressed casually and without any weapon.

"Hello there, I'm here for this mission? I also assume you three will be my future teammates?" He'd say.

Rolling his shoulders in his armor, Puurcival quickly made his way down to the geological research department to find Dr. Paeris Daelen. There wasn't a whole lot of people down here- most were busy eating and viewing the comet. Only a precious few were still stuck down here doing real work. Not that Purrcival could blame the others for wanting to take it easy- the comet came around once in a lifetime, for Felynes typically once in a few lifetimes, so it was expected that people would be excited.

Still, excitement didn't mean that he could shrug off work- in his paws, Purrcival was going over a supplies checklist for the Tailraiders, and what they'd need in order to support a blind foray past the Guiding Lands: Provisions, supplies, materials for field repairs, plenty of vigorwasp spray, materials to set up Tailraider survey points and forward bases, stuff like that. Most of the materials had already been located and pulled aside, they mainly just needed the good doctor to sign off on. Not to mention Dr. Paeris also wanted direct support from the Tailraiders for this one too- having one on the mission instead of just having a team on standby.

Purrcival pushed past the door into the Doctor's office, almost knocking into what appeared to be a small throng of hunters already gathered. "Woah, busy." Purrcival noted, as he pushed his way past the hunters, and towards where Dr. Paeris' desk sat.

"Right. Of course they're not here yet." Purrcival said with a sigh.

Looking behind and up for the first time since he'd entered the room, he found that the good doctor's office had filled with its fair share of hunters. It seemed at least four of them had registered for the mission. That meant at least four people he'd have to keep an eye on. Purrcival shrugged, shouldn't be too bad, at least a few of them looked like they could handle themselves.

As the second chairman of the department, Doctor Daelen's office was spacious and quite ornate. Almost a combination of a private office and public waiting room, there were chairs enough for the whole party lining the walls to either side. In the center of the room, two more chairs were poised on either side of a cozy coffee table made from half of a tree log cut longways, turned flat side up, and supported by wedges of stone. The back half of the room was dominated by a large dark oak desk, polished to an almost obnoxious shine in contrast to the mess of papers that littered it, and a single fine leather chair behind it. On the back of the wall rested an array of certificates in the center, proudly declaring the various scholarly degrees and scientific accomplishments of their owner. Banners marking the First Fleet flanked these markings of prestige, and beyond those were decorative pieces of art, paintings of various landscapes on the left side, and a large graphite sketching of a rathalos in flight on the right. Sconces lined the walls above the chairs, giving the room the same earthly cozy mood as the rest of the stone-cut halls here.

"Yes, yes, I'll see to it as soon as I'm done briefing the scouting party!" A nasally and somewhat bothered voice echoed down the hall and poured into the office through the open door behind the group of hunters. Immediately following this, footsteps hurried through the hallway, getting louder and louder until a shorter-than-average wyverian appeared in the doorway, wearing a lab coat and holding a stack of papers. "Ugh, secretaries leaving my door open again-" He paused, cutting himself off as he looked inside and met the gaze of four hunters and two lynians staring back at him. In a small fluster, he brushed his moppy chocolate colored hair away from his blue-grey eyes, which were guarded by large round glasses. "Ah- I see you're already here. You must be the Prismatic Metor scouting party, I assume," he half asked, half assumed as he pushed past the lot and let himself fall into his chair with an exhausted flop. He didn't bother waiting for confirmation before continuing. "I am Doctor Daelen. The Commission has put our department in charge of investigating the meteor that has fallen from Prismata's Comet, and I am spear-heading that research. If you're all here to participate, then I'll speak frankly; your first assignment is to locate the meteor itself, and establish a forward base in the vicinity so that I can safely move a team from the G-R-D up north. Any questions so far?" He spoke a bit faster than one might like, and after allowing the papers he was holding to join the mess on the desk, he looked up at the party quizzically.

It was still news to him that a meteor had crashed somewhere in the wilderness during the comet's appearance. Filo felt himself getting excited, as it sounded like the beginning of an adventure. More so, it would be one that he would be actively participating in front and center. The task was deceptively simple, go to the direction where the meteor fell, find the rock, and set up a base for the geology people to study it there. The challenge would lie in the gaps between and during those steps.

"Name's Filo. Anyway, what's the area we're entering like? Will we be needing to pack hot or cold drinks? Is there anything to the terrain that will require care or perhaps some tools for traversing it? Also what's the timeframe for this and how often do you want updates on our progress? Will we be hauling the base construction materials from here or will it be something we take care of when we find that meteor?" It was a slight barrage of questions, but Filo knew they had to be thorough before marching in there.

Jaden
Arania

They are going to track and find that meteor. Jaden had heard about that meteor that broke off from Prismata's Comet, and the fact that they were going to find it made him excited. Going into uncharted territory to find this meteor, who knows what they will find on their journey. To see what else the New World has to offer, he could not help but make a small smile. It sounds like the beginnings of an adventure, and Jaden just hoped that the lands they will find are not as cold as Hoarfrost Reach. Jaden liked the cold sure but, he likes not having to pack hot drinks every time he ventures out into the cold.

As Filo spoke up and asked what to expect and what to bring, Jaden added his own questions to the mix. "Yeah, do we know what kind of terrain or climate we will be dealing with, or is it unknown?" Jaden would like to have some idea of what they will be traversing and not be totally blind if possible. "Oh yeah, I am Jaden, and nice to meet you all." Almost forgetting to introduce himself to his new teammates and to Doctor Daelen. Jaden waited to see what questions his new teammates would ask and took the time to pet Arania while he waited for their questions to be answered.

Squall & Trygve

Geological Research Department - Dr. Paeris Daelen Office
Interactions:

When Dr. Paeris Dalen finally appeared and gave a brief overview of what their first assignment would be for, Squall was quite excited to hear about it. While the surrounding locales had been a nice scenery change from the Old World, after awhile it was a bit repetitious. Being able to see what waited beyond what previously the Commission had explored was just what Squall had desired to see. Fight new wyvern species, see new lands. Definitely a worthy venture for his curiosity.
One hunter seem to bombard the good doctor with questions. Filo as he had called himself, seem to go over most of the basic questions for whatever the overall commitment to the whole assignment. Important factors to consider since no doubt they would be away from Astrea for some time.

The doctor's tired face lit up a bit when Filo and Jaden contributed so many questions to the conversation. He nodded and smiled a bit as he replied. "Ah, I'm glad to see that you lot care enough to look into this further. And here I'd thought the Commission was going to give me a group of brutes who just wanted to get paid." He adjusted his glasses and dug through the mess of documents on his desk, fishing one sheet out and looking it over. "I will have a team move all of the building and research materials up north once you secure the area, I won't expect you to bring anything you wouldn't bring on a normal expedition. But as for that, we're unsure of the climate north of the Elder's Recess. We do know that the crystalline structures at the Recess's edge do extend north for quite a while. But we have no evidence to suggest that it gets significantly colder or hotter beyond that. Our best topographical data suggests that climate changes here in the New World gradient in a west-to-east formation rather than north and south."

Daelen set the paper he was reading from back down, and looked up at the group. "I'd like a report daily, as you establish a route to the meteor and once you secure the area."
