How locked into a specific class would we be locked into?
Like would a character who was going through the Pathfinder training who was set to go to Andromeda, but stayed behind for family, or because there was an accident that made him medically unable to participate in the Andromeda Initiative.

Well it depends what aspects of a "Pathfinder" you're looking to move over. Pathfinder, to me, is more of a position rather than a class, like a first into the fray type of ground team leader/type. Like as background stuff I could see that being a proper thing, it'd just depend on what specifically from the 'Pathfinder' you're thinking of bringing over.

@LetMeDoStuffSo the cat is approved then. Sweet.

It's approved but if anything goes super wrong on the ship, collector or ME2 opening style, chances for the cat aren't high lmao.

But a single pet on the ship is a cool choice for me

An Infiltrator/Explorer type character. Maybe pick up some Vanguard levels down the track. Not sure I want to step up and lead groups of people. Seems like a lot of responsibility, but definitely among the first boots on the ground. A recon officer.

A recon officer makes more sense, the bit I was slightly worried about was how the pathfinder can switch between "classes" essentially, but as long as you have yourself a more concrete footing on their role and what that would allow them to do, then I'm all game.

I don't want to gamify the RP too much, so progression of like abilities is probably gonna be slow if at all. Point of it is to obviously have the sort of emotional story driven RP with the action being a part and vessel for those things to happen, rather than the standout focus, if that makes sense?

For the pathfinder role, what I think would work better would be to separate Recon Officer as your characters' on-ship job, and role, and then select like the three sort of abilities from the class that you think best represents how they do that job, then you sort of hit the nail on both of them without gamifying that role

Can I make an argument for Human Biotics in this RP? Because this has been something bugging since playing the games and sleuthing the lore.

What about human biotics is it that you're thinking of specifically? I mean if it's if we can feature them then I should say so because they are a part of the lore, but what do you have in mind?

I'm very interested in this! Been a while since I wrote anything but this is the perfect opportunity to get back into the swing of things if I can come up with a compelling character.

Can we drop them needing implants? I had this gigantic rant with a group of ME fans yesterday about the same issue. In ME's own lore it makes no sense why they would need implants to harness their abilities. I am about go on the most nerdy rant ever hold a moment:

-First off Asari are supposedly the Genetic Equivalent of every Species, and despite the child of an Asari being Asari. Let's a The child of a Krogan and Asari would look like an Asari and have the DNA of a Krogan too. So by that logic than an Asari and Human Asari child would need implants if the Human Biotic is not innate to their biology.

-Okay, but here is the thing, if Biotic abilities are some kind of mutation in Human DNA, then it makes no sense why it's not actually nature. For, how smart ME is, that's not how genetics work:

-After a series of starship accidents in the 2150s that dispersed element zero over populated areas, the first human biotics were born, though their abilities were not recognized right away.

Mutations are naturally occurring. Even if it is something unnatural that caused the mutation. We see this happening with frogs born with multiple legs due to chemicals in the water.

Personally my theory has always been:

-All biotics seeking to wield their abilities on a usable level are fitted with an electronic brain implant during puberty.

This was something they were told, but not something they actually needed. And the Space Alliance pretty mach gaslit an entire group of Human Biotics to experiment on them. We know that the L2s were seeking asylum after social prejudice. Health conditions. And rampant abuse. If the Implants were something a Human Biotic needed, then the Implants shouldn't be causing Health Problems.

Sorry this is something I have been thinking about for a long time since I have played this game, sleuthed the lore, and read the expanded universe.

Edit: This is just more or less a retcon and maybe something we can explore in the RP. Obvious Rigel would have Implants because the Space Alliance just takes children to "train them".

Hmm, oddly enough I thought that the sort of natural "Non-implants needed" thing was once addressed but I might be inventing a memory for that. It's certainly an interesting thought for food and I'd be happy to potentially experiment with it, obviously so long as we don't open a keg to make biotics insanely overpowered to the point it negates other characters, however so long as other people are fine with it in this RP I'd be interested to explore that route of the genetics being as they actually work, cause that's how I assumed they did work lmao.

I'll open the floor to discussion on the matter though personally I'd think this sort of late on in the human involvement with the galaxy at least a good chunk of the biotic humans born were there with genetic mutations over just a need to use implants on them. I'd say it'd probably in actuality it'd be similar to how the Asari need at least Amps (not implants) in order to harness the powers effectively. Hopefully I'm following this correctly though, at least, so correct me if I'm misunderstanding this at 1:45am lmao

I don't think having no implants would make them insanely overpowered, then again there have been extremely powerful Biotics we have seen in the lore i.e. I am thinking about Jack. Who likely had implants due to the experiments. The implants from what I understood were so they could actually use their powers, which seems really silly, imo.

Also the Asari thing is confusing because nowhere in the information does it say they need implants:

All asari are naturally biotic to some degree, though not all choose to develop their abilities. Those who do pursue training usually display formidable ability. They do not require implants to use biotics effectively, nor do they need to undergo special training to acquire conscious neural control; their reproductive physiology grants them this ability from birth.

Amps are also not Implants. Amps, are just Amplifiers meant to Amplify their power. Implants, from what I am understanding and reading from the lore was:

Humans needed Implants to use their ability because it was for some reason weaker and for some reason it was the only way they could harness their abilities.

Which I call bullshit, because:

human biotics were born, though their abilities were not recognized right away. The first known human biotic was female, dubbed "Subject White".

Like you kind of have to naturally be able to use an ability to be discovered or else it wouldn't be discovered.

Looking at Real World context, 99% of the world's population is born with Teflon Poisoning:

According to a 2007 study, C8 is in the blood of 99.7% of Americans. It's called a "forever chemical" because it never fully degrades.

So. Even if something is originally unnatural. If it's been introduced and they were born with the genetic mutation, then it is at that point natural.

Sorry this is some really weird nerdy shit, it's 6:55 pm for me.

Nah nerdy shit can be fun, don't worry. I wasn't saying without implants would make them powerful, just wanted to make an assured line for everyone that I hope things don't become about creeping power, which I don't think you're doing, you're talking about something that's generally quite interesting. Whilst I don't think we should try to fix every discrepancy within Mass Effect, I think this point we're talking about is most certainly an interesting one worth taking a look at

I agree that perhaps the implants as per experimentation are an interesting thing but they shouldn't be the only thing that lets these powers "come into fruition". I will say in this RP's context, that will be something we can look at with more intrigue within, but it being a natural genetic mutation that's now within their genetic code is something I'll accept.

Tl;dr - Yeah I think the implants being the only thing allowing humans to be biotic shouldn't be the only answer and I'd be chill with seeing how it goes on a more genetic pov in storytelling too, and the idea you mentioned about the gaslighting do be cool and makes sense, considering it's very much a new thing to humanity and the insane caution and ambition for experimenting would absolutely be there

@LetMeDoStuffAwesome. I mean if you're accepting that then, I will scrap the implant idea with Rigel entirely. You perfectly understood what I was saying about implants being the only way for these powers to come fruition and I personally think its an interesting lore thing to explore.

Honestly, to me the implant idea always appealed more as a sort of "experimentation to try and get more out of biotics", which could be when the dangers start to arise in their entirety. That idea I'll leave in the back of my mind for maybe another time if it doesn't fly, but yeah, the genetics side of it seems to make more sense, provided they were born with those genes
