You may have already guessed by the title and the above, but this is a Digimon RP that uses the Digivice and Partner system from Digimon Frontier, the D-Tector and Spirits. However, this RP isn’t aiming to be a remake or ‘fix’ for that series; rather, it'll take elements from it and use them in a setting with a science fiction and horror focus more akin to Digimon Tamers and Digimon Ghost Game. Accordingly, the D-Tectors in this RP’s universe don’t use physical artifacts like the Spirits of the Warrior Ten to transform humans into Digimon, but rather the lingering spirits of Digimon who have formed a contract with a chosen human. Through unfettered exposure to the volatility and transformative power of the human psyche, the full potential of these Digimon is released; and through achieving mutual understanding and purpose, heights of power seldom seen in either world since antiquity may yet be reached.

This RP is looking for a relatively small group size - perhaps 4 to 6 people - to participate in what will be an RP that goes to some dark places, including cults, death, and human experimentation. This is not to say there will not be any light-hearted or comedic bits, but simply that the RP draws a lot of its inspiration from horror sources and there will be times where such light-hearted/comedic bits won’t work. This RP is intended to last for quite some time as, much like the series itself, it will have story arcs and may include player-suggested arcs as well.

Frontier was really the series that introduced me to Digimon, so I'm kind of interested. As far as Spirits go, are we sticking to the canon ones (The Legendary Warriors)?

@JDubs I can confirm we are not. If you wanted to contract with, say, a Leomon's spirit, you'd be free to do so!

Huh... kinda surprised this hasn't gotten more attention, my experience has been these digimon threads usually fill up fast.

@JDubs If you wanted to use a line based off of the Spirits, you're quite welcome to, but as RBY said it's absolutely not required; all you need for a basic line is three Digimon who form an aesthetically and/or thematically convincing Human, Beast and Double Spirit set? To piggyback on their example, Leomon -> LoaderLeomon -> HeavyLeomon would be a perfectly valid line!

So, I'm a little fuzzy on how this works? I'm going to keep rereading the OP if that's what it takes, but I'm uncertain how the horror fits into this? Are the spirits treated more like ghosts, and if so, what does that mean for regular digimon? I'm having a hard time painting a clear image of the setting and themes presented...

That's fair- we held off on giving out too much information ahead of the OOC, but a little extra clarity never hurts!

Outside of the Digimon who have entered a contract with a human to become the Spirit component of a D-Tector partnership, Digimon are more or less the same as they are in canon; a colourful, varied bunch of creatures with different dispositions, moral alignments and desires. For the most part, humans only know them as cryptids and urban legends, but the way we've had things planned, player characters would have the option of joining one of the organizations that works with the Powers That Be in the Digital World to keeps the peace between Analog and Digital? Not all Digimon are malicious, but besides the fact that even an ordinarily friendly Digimon can be dangerous if pushed by circumstances, there's a masquerade to maintain and no shortage of humans who pose a threat to them through greed or ignorance; not to mention, not all Tamers or D-Tector users are on the level, so to speak.

In terms of setting, we'll be moving around according to the needs of the plot, but I would say at first we'll mainly be set in the Analog World with occasional forays into the Digital World? It'll honestly depend on what people want to do, but that feels like a good overview of current plans.

In terms of digivolving, frontier was the inevitable destination for a logical progression taking place; in 1, the kids help them digivolve, in two, they briefly bring back an unnatural digivolving process with the armor and also help the digimon evolve by fusing two. In three, the kids themselves would fuse with their digimon to get them to mega level, and finally, frontier; kids find "spirits" initially represented by small idols, not unlike the eggs necessary to armor digivolving. Using the spirits, the kids would employ "spirit evolution", skipping the digimon partner angle and having the kids just turn into digimon themselves from day one.

@Duthguy I do want to add one thing - Ben's right that Frontier sort of did away with the partner relationship, which wasviewed as a weak point for the show. We are reintroducing that in a limited capacity - the spirit will still hang around and is capable of talking to the human if the player so desires. We do recommend taking advantage of that.
