Shannon Greene & James Feryana - Walking the Streets
Shannon saw it before James pointed it out to her. She had been on high alert, her eyes fixating rapidly on the slightest movement in the area. A torn piece of paper, a plastic bag, and now a monster. She kept her eyes on the slow-moving creature, her right hand reaching behind her. With a grace benefited by practice, Shannon smoothly pulled out her knife from its backpack pocket. "Don't be scared," she whispered, handing James the police baton. Shannon wouldn't need it for just one guy. "Just keep your voice down."
She walked toward the monster, her stride quick and confident. Her eyes darted from side to side to check if there were more around, but the coast appeared to be clear. As the 'walker' realized she was there, it turned on her, its glassy-eyed gaze staring right through her. When she was steps away from the creature, it made a sort of hissing noise and lunged toward her. Gritting her teeth, Shannon's arm plunged upward, the knife she was holding sliding smoothly into the walker's head. It died quickly, its body going limp. With a grunt, Shannon pulled out her knife and wiped it on her jacket. The walker fell at her feet.
Turning around, Shannon gave James a grin. See? She could do this. "Wait, James..." Shannon's grin died on her face as she saw more monsters appear behind James, coming from the road they had just turned off of. One, two, three... Shit! Shannon started running toward James. "Get back," she said, running up to him and grabbing her police baton back. "Get back!" She started pulling on James' arm, wanting to put as much difference between her and them. Her face grim, Shannon watched as the monsters continued to pour out on to the street. "This is a time to run."
