Appearance: Lani is a tall girl, standing at 5'8 even without her heeled boots. She has dark skin and narrow, dark eyes. Her bright blue hair is in short twists, with longer loose strands hanging down her face. She likes to wear wide clothes and scarves - as she's from Alola, every temperature that isn't very high gets her cold immediately. She's often found disregarding dress code because of this. Lani also likes to wear heavy, heeled boots that get her up to a solid 6 foot in height.
Personality: Lani is a stubborn, headstrong girl that won't take no for an answer easily. If you first meet her, you might think of her as arrogant - truthfully, she's very insecure, but hides that behind an ice cold facade. Despite her stubbornness, she doesn't like it when people give in too quickly, and will often encourage others to do things that might not be good for them. If you do break through her shell, you'll find a loyal friend that will gladly face down an irate Charizard for you - though she'll be cursing at you for it the entire time.
Backstory: Lani was born on Akala Island in Alola. Her family were both trainers in their youth, and she was quickly raised with that same goal in mind. As such, she got her starter at 11, a fiery Litten that matched her temper. She traveled around Alola, taking on island challenges, though she never quite managed to do a full run. Instead, she started collecting Pokemon. Lani aimed to find every single Pokemon in Alola, but her plans came to an end rather violently when she was 16 and she got the call in that her father died in an overseas accident, the details of which were never fully revealed to her.
She went home to comfort her mother and take on some responsibilities in the house. For a long time, nothing happened in regards to her goals, and she ended up releasing most of her Pokemon because she felt bad for them. Finally, in desperation at seeing her daughter just mope about in the house, her mom sent Lani off to Paldea, enlisting her into the Academy. Lani resisted for a long time, but eventually gave in, under the condition that she be allowed to catch her own new starter Pokemon. After her Incineroar helped her catch a Jangmo-o, she left her previous friend behind to keep her mother company, and set sail for new lands.
Before heading for Papas Academy, Lani went off to add more members to her team. She decided to stick with a theme and ended up catching a Dreepy and a Cyclizar. Now with a Pokemon to ride, she headed for the Academy and got officially enrolled.
Pokémon:
Name: Lewis Species: Jangmo-o Personality: A proud little guy, Lewis likes to walk at the front of the pack, and always overestimates his own capabilities. This means he has lost more than one fight, but it just drives him to try harder.
Name: Mizza Species: Dreepy Personality: A bit more drawn back and shy, she usually hangs around draped across Lani's neck if she's out of her ball.
Name: Braze Species: Cyclizar Personality: Braze is a jolly little guy who likes to pull pranks on Lani by going the opposite direction of where she points him to. He loves adventure.
Quirks: - She has a tendency to start pulling at her hair when she gets nervous. - She has three holes in each ear. - She hasn't allowed Lewis out of his ball without strict supervision since the Murkrow incident. Essentially any 'extra' information you have about your character to make them more interesting. This can be a bulleted list of personal
Full Name: Jean Renard Age: 19 Favorite Color: White Favorite Subject: Home Ec Favorite Teacher: Mr. Saguaro
Appearance: Jean is what could be described as a Tall glass of water. He stands at around 6’0” although he often appears taller due to his poised posture. He has a lean physique from a lifestyle of healthy eating and the occasional workout. His skin is relatively pale, although he is prone to sunburns if he’s not careful. His face has certain sharp features such as his defined jawline and cheekbones. His friendly eyes are deep blue in color. He’s quite expressive in general and isn’t too difficult to read. Accessory-wise, Jean has pierced ears, and wear a pair of black hairclips. His hair is medium short and naturally blonde. It’s also naturally wavy, although he usually straightens it out.
For clothing, Jean is usually one to prefer quality over practicality, even though he’s found ways to mix the two in preparation to his journey. Due to his familys status in Kalos, he has had access to a wide variety of quality brand clothing from the different boutiques scattered around the region, which has helped forming his personal style during his upbringing. His go-to attire is normally a mellow formal-casual style, with elements such as buttoned shirts and reasonable light-colored sweaters to more practical jeans and footwear. One of his go-to outfits is a white V-necked long sleeved shirt with a pair of dark blue jeans. He also wears a pair of dark brown loafers, as well as a dark brown shoulderbag for all his necessities. At school, however, he naturally wear the school uniform, of which he has made no customizations to, preferring it to be on point at all time.
Personality: Jean has a generally friendly disposition towards everyone he meets, and tries to be open-minded towards everyone. Coming from a prestigious family in the Kalos region, he quickly developed a snobby personality growing up, which he is now painfully aware of, and actively tries to steer away from. Somewhat self-centered, Jean often struggles with seeing things from others perspectives, which makes him come across as rude and inconsiderate at times. When he’s confronted over such behavior though, Jean is quick to apologize. He carries himself with both poise and confidence, and while he’s a bit socially awkward sometimes, Jean is genuinely a good guy. He’s always ready to offer a helping hand if he feels like he can contribute, and he would always stand up for his friends if they were to be in any sort of trouble.
A studious guy, Jean would much rather choose to stay home and go to school rather than run around in the region on a pokemon journey to collect gym badges or whatever the kids are doing nowdays. As such, he’s not a great battler himself, which doesn’t bother him too much.
Jean has always loved cooking, which isn’t too weird considering how close to home the culinary arts really hit. Having looked up to his father as a chef all his life, it was a no-brainer that Jean would eventually dabble in the culinary arts himself, which he has shown great promise in, even going so far as to attend different schools specifically catering to the craft. He’s very knowledgeable about food, different types of ingredients and where to find them.
Backstory: Jean was born in the Kalos region as the only son to none other than the Elite four masterchef himself: Siebold. Jean’s mother is pretty much the perfect stereotype of a trophy wife: She’s young, she doesn’t work and she just spends way too much money. To Jean though, she was always a loving mother who was there with him growing up when his fathers businesses took him elsewhere. As such, he now has a very strong bond with his mother, who often calls to check up on him.
As Jeans father was often busy with his duties either as a chef or as an Elite four, Jean didn’t see as much of him growing up as he would have wanted. He did see him on Tv though, a lot. While pokemon battles were cool and all, Jean truly got inspired when watching his father cook. This applied to the occasions where he was at home cooking for them as well. Jean would always run around in the kitchen like a little sock puppet, helping his father out while being almost cartoonishly clumsy. These memories are some of his fondest memories of his childhood.
When Jean was 10 years old, he was given a Froakie by the regions Pokemon professor as a starter for his pokemon journey. While he wasn’t really ecstatic about the idea of going on a pokemon journey, he decided to give it a shot. Being the son of an Elite Four member placed some expectations on your shoulder, after all. He managed to get one gym badge from the Santalune Gym, but also decided at that point that he didn’t want to continue a pokemon journey. He instead moved back home and pursued education, giving him the opportunity to pursue his true passion: cooking.
Now 19 years old, Jean is already a very talented cook, having worked and learned alongside his father at various restaurants around the Kalos region. Despite this, he still has a lot to learn. His culinary journey has now taken him to the Paldea region where he has lived at, and attended the Papas Academy for some time now. Now awaiting news regarding the years big Treasure Hunt, Jean is set on discovering new recipes and combination to make even more excellent food that he can bring with him back to Kalos once his education is concluded.
Quirks: - He loves swimming as a secondary hobby to cooking. - He originates from Kalos and has a faint Kalosian (French) accent. - Said accent, along with his general posture, has made him quite popular with many of the girls at the academy. - He’s not very good at pokemon battles.
Pokémon:
Pokémon: Frogadier Nickname: Ribbit Personality: Ribbit is often nicknamed the Lone Ribbit Ranger by Jean due to his standoffish edgy loner wannabe attitude. Despite his attempts though, Ribbit greatly enjoy the company of others. He’s also very polite to both trainers and pokemon alike. Ability: Protean Moves: - Water Pulse - Double Team - Quick Attack - Smokescreen
Pokémon: Tatsugiri (Curly Form) Nickname: Giri Personality: Giri is a cunning and evil little fish to face in battle. She tends to play the meek timid weak little fish to get opponents to lower their guard, then fire off with powerful Dragon, or Water-Type moves. She’s not above taunting other enemies despite their potential size difference either. This comes back to bite her though. Often. Outside of battle she’s a lot more relaxed and sociable. Ability: Storm Drain Moves: - Chilling Water - Dragon Pulse - Nasty Plot - Soak
I'm interested in joining as well! Caveat, I haven't finished the game yet but don't mind if anything involves spoilers. Would I be able to reserve Flying type? Thank you!
"Hey, everyone has bad days sometimes, right Luna? Want to go for a walk with us and talk or something? It'll clear your head.”
Full Name: Pete Johnson
Age: 17
Favorite Color: “Whatever color Luna is - that's my favorite” (Tan)
Favorite Subject: Health [*I'm assuming we start the semester after MC, so this would be available – but if this is not the case I can edit!]
Favorite Teacher: Mr. Jacq, for never giving up on him
Appearance: Clocking in at 6'2” and about 215lbs, Pete's hulking frame is the first thing people notice about him. A result of both an insatiable love of protein and a ton of daily heavy lifting, his weight is entirely muscle. His intimidating size is usually offset by a friendly grin, however he's pretty awful at hiding emotions, so if he's upset, you will know it. He is very expressive in general with his movements and vocal inflection, with excitement and sorrow alike conveyed unmistakably through his chocolatey brown eyes.
Pete doesn't have much of a fashion sense, preferring either plaid or solid-colored t-shirts paired with blue or black jeans and sneakers or work boots outside of school. For class, he usually opts for the summer uniform but sometimes chooses the spring or autumn uniform (the winter one is too warm for his liking). He always wears a string of wooden beads on his left wrist. It was made by his grandfather and used to belong to his grandmother, who wore it as a necklace. Their initials are carved into the clasp, encircled by a heart.
Personality: Pete's brother would describe him as a sensitive, overemotional dumbass. His sister would describe him as a friend to everyone, but with a disclaimer that his big heart and endless loyalty will be the death of him one day. Pete would shrug and agree with both reviews. He has a naturally friendly and easygoing disposition to everybody, being very non-judgmental of people different than him but slow to recognize when his presence is not desired. He cares deeply for those he considers friends and would listen without complaint for hours about their interests or about something that was bothering them. Though empathetic, he's not the best at detecting emotion, which leads to him asking “are you okay?” a lot, and accepting it at face value if told the affirmative. He also loves to joke around and tease people he's close to. There's no better example of Pete's large heart than his relationship with his rockruff, Luna, who is his little princess and does everything with him, including sharing his bed and all of his meals.
Although Pete doesn't offend easily over things like quips on his appearance, appetite, or opinions, his grades are a particular sore spot, and any insinuation that he isn't smart enough to be in the health track will upset him. His many failed midterms have made him aware that he's not the brightest student at Papas Academy, and he can sometimes be slow to understand something explained to him, especially if the words used are large or plentiful. Similarly, he's quite bad with nuance and can't take a hint. Your best bet to get a point across is to be as direct as possible - though at the same time he can be sensitive and easily stung by social rejection, making handling him a difficult affair at times. His opinion on most things can be very easily swayed, and he's quite easy to bribe (especially with food). He tends to jump to conclusions very quickly, which has led to him initiating fights over misunderstandings.
If you didn't know any better, you would think Pete lived in a constant state of hunger. He will eat just about anything at any time and is known to complain about being hungry even after he's just eaten. Food is a definite way into his heart. He uses the extra calories to exercise whenever he's given the opportunity. He claims it grounds him and makes him focus better, perhaps outside of the dopamine boost because it's something he's confident he's good at, which is why he's often found at the gym instead of the library before a big test.
Backstory: Pete was born and raised in a large farmhouse on the outskirts of Cortondo, Paldea, and grew up with his parents, older brother (Jack), younger sister (Mila), and his paternal grandparents. His siblings were both two years apart from him. His grandfather, who passed away when Pete was six, had built the house himself fifty years before Pete was born, and despite the creaking doors and patchwork repairs, Pete wouldn't have his childhood any other way. As far back as he can remember, he started chores at 6am every day, stopped for breakfast, more chores, lunch, homeschooling, more chores, and then after dinner he was free to do whatever he wanted. There was pretty much no task that was off limits, whether it be feeding the pokemon, plowing the fields, sheering the mareep, harvesting olives, clearing out pest nacli, or repairing fences. His grandmother, “Granny”, was a retired schoolteacher, so she was Pete's teacher his entire childhood. Of the three children, Pete always caught on the fastest and was also the only one to enjoy reading and learning in his spare time. In hindsight, it really wasn't much of a contest – he once found his brother caught halfway over the tauros fence by his pants after locking himself in and then failing to climb out, and his sister once asked him if the moon and the sun were the same thing... and also if they were behind or in front of the clouds. As a kid though, Pete assumed he must be a genius.
Pete's older brother Jack heckled him continuously growing up, picking up quickly on Pete's sensitivity and mocking him when he'd fuss over an injured mareep in the flock or shared his dinner with a sad lechonk to make it feel better. His parents mostly ignored this behavior, figuring they may as well let their older son toughen their younger one up a bit. Granny was the only one who showed him any sympathy, so she was always the one to dry his tears and reassure him that empathy was an admirable quality. The pokemon also responded more favorably to Pete, so as the years went on, he slowly took over more of those duties.
This is likely why the family's herding midday lycanroc, Stella, chose Pete to present with an egg when he was fourteen. The imminent new life took everyone by surprise, and they were more careful about letting Stella roam outside alone after that, but Pete took his responsibility as surrogate mother extremely seriously. Stella happily followed him around for weeks as he toted the egg with him through his daily chores-food-school ritual. One fateful day, the egg hatched into a little female rockruff which Pete named Luna, and the two were inseparable from that moment on.
In Pete's mid-teen years, Granny started to slow down tremendously. She could barely leave bed anymore, and Pete and Luna spent much of their free time talking to her, or helping her up to the dinner table or bathroom. One night when they were talking, Granny mentioned that he should consider going to the Papas Academy. Pete laughed at this notion at first – Granny was the only one in the family who had any sort of formal education, and he'd made peace with being a farmer for the rest of his life. But she insisted – he was different from his siblings – he had a special spark – he and Luna could do it together.
He began to look more seriously into education. It wasn't impossible, especially as his sister had taken over most of his chores when he shifted to looking after their grandmother, but he would never leave Granny, so he figured it would be far in his future when he finally got to go. One quiet night, he excitedly told his grandmother his decision that he would attend the academy in the future, just like she wanted him to. He vividly remembers her smiling softly and telling him how proud of him she was.
The next morning, they'd found Granny had quietly slipped away in her sleep. Pete was devastated but determined to follow through on his promise, and though his application to Papas Academy was littered with tear stains, he was accepted. Nobody else in his family really cared aside from being annoyed that his chores would be shifted onto them, but he knew his Granny was out there somewhere, watching with pride. He started wearing her necklace to keep a part of her with him at the academy, as it was small enough to fit onto his large wrist.
As excited as Pete was to attend the academy, he quickly realized his lack of prior formal education was going to come as a massive hurdle. Studying? Tests? He had no experience or strategies for such things. Luna was highly offended when the school officials insisted she needed to be in a ball during class, so Pete had to go and buy one for her (a luxury ball, of course). He fell behind in the curriculum very quickly, finding the pace impossible to keep up with, and failed every midterm he wrote. He also refused to use Luna in battle studies, which was basically an automatic fail since he didn't have any other pokemon. By the time he'd gotten over his embarrassment and sought help from Mr. Jacq, there wasn't enough time in the school year to make up the credits and was advised that he would need to retake all of his courses next year.
Maybe his grandmother was wrong about him. He was good at farmwork, he knew how to do it, and he'd certainly never failed a dozen tests on it – home was where he was meant to be. He and Luna stopped at the graveyard on the way home, but Pete froze at the entrance. He remembered the last words she ever said to him, and broke into a sobbing mess at the cemetery gate.
He couldn't tell Granny he was dropping out; she was the only one who ever believed in him. Luna gently tapped his leg and pointed her nose back to Mesagoza with a smile. He engulfed the little rockruff in a hug. Luna believed in him, too.
He consulted with Mr. Jacq, who worked with him over the summer to help get a kickstart on some concepts he was struggling with, and also advised that this year there would be new health classes offered. Pete even went so far as to go catch a nacli to use in battle studies instead of Luna. They were pest pokemon on the farm, as they were attracted to the crop fertilizer but left behind salt that would damage roots. Pete figured he'd never get attached to one of those little buggers, and even left the nacli without a nickname... but inevitably he grew attached, and even caught himself calling him “Nackles”.
Now Pete feels fully ready for the upcoming year and is prepared for the challenge this time. He's even honed in on a new Treasure Hunt goal. He'd heard rumors from Arven about the mythical herbs that were said to cure all ailments, and when confronted, informed Pete of their previous locations, but that the last of them were gone now. If Pete could even discover seeds of those herbs, he had the farming ability to grow them, and the health classes could give him the knowledge to use them. This was his chance to make a huge impact on the world, and he was going to take it!
Pokémon: Rockruff Nickname: Luna Personality: Full of energy and spirit, Luna could brighten a room in an instant with her bubbly, contagious happiness. Pete has spoiled her and she is used to being treated like a human – she will turn her nose up at pokemon treats and dislikes going in her pokeball. She loves to battle, but Pete still hates to use her to fight. Ability: Vital Spirit
Pokémon: Nacli Nickname: Nackles Personality: Nackles is quiet and very low maintenance, not even being able to eat, and much more content with his pokeball than Luna is. His favorite thing to do is sit in the dirt and sunbathe. Ability: Purifying Salt
Quirks:
• Pete has a standard 45lb barbell in his dorm room • During his last year at the academy, he dated a few different students, though none of the relationships lasted long. He's tried to stave off it this year to avoid more distractions and heartache • He is pretty new to using a rotom phone, only getting one a year ago, and still just has it in a standard case • He has never been outside of Paldea, or has even traveled much within Paldea • This is his playlist so far, but it's pretty small atm, more will be added later
Relationships: [Blank for now, but I'm very open to brainstorming possible current or future relationships!]
Appearance: Lawrence lacked any jewelry, piercings, or tattoos on his slender and fit body. Yet he was often mistaken for a spoiled rich kid anyway, whenever he put on the elaborate and paint-stained clothing that his auntie had sewn for him. Rarely not wearing the various bright and bold colors that helped him stand out in a crowd at 5 foot 9. But unlike certain poisonous creatures that did the exact same thing; his soft golden eyes and carefree smile made him look harmless enough to approach.
Usually spotted while running alongside his motley crew, in and out of restricted areas and dead-end alleyways. Not-so-stealthy carrying around some of his art equipment, in the same leather bag that held onto his Pokeballs and other travel provisions. Thus, it seemed like Law was always on the move, and enjoying whatever he was up to…
Personality: Lawrence had always been adventurous and high-spirited enough to make up for being an only child. But he was cursed with a boundless creativity, and teenage compulsion to rebel against authority figures in his life. Having the tendency to be disruptive towards others in pursuit of his own goals and interests. Law tends to be too freethinking and intuitive for his own good; which can cause him to behave like a toxic person. Having no issue with badmouthing and lying to those he opposes, and outright stealing from adults who have wronged him.
So it wasn’t out of the ordinary for Law to be by his lonesome. Developing a variety of skills for his relatively young age. Yet the runaway remained optimistic and ambitious to a fault. Even when most of his relationships couldn’t be any more strained. Since he had a genuine appreciation and care for his second family—his Pokemon team and the aunt who was incredibly tolerant of their collective shenanigans.
Giving him reasons to work on his flaws of insecurity and lack of trust toward strangers. So he could become the greatest trainer, artist and coin collector in the whole Paldea region. Though Law still had a long journey ahead of him—and even now—he can’t seem to help but encourage his troublemaking companions. After all, “Chaos is the aftermath of true artistry”, or so he says…
Backstory: Lawrence was adopted into the Goode family at a very young age. Now having a last name that had garnered a certain negative reputation over the years. In that most of them were thought to be a bunch of cheats, charlatans and legal crooks. Considered cursed to be the fresh apple of such a rotten family tree, that had a whole forest's worth of stories written about them in the papers. But whether he liked them or not; Lawrence learned plenty about his parent’s previous generations and their poisonous deeds. Perhaps more so than many kids knew about their own closest relatives. But even worse still, he’d be told absolutely nothing about his real birth parents, or the details of his adoption, until the day that he had already decided to run away from their house somewhere in the Paldea Region.
Though when his parents had already moved at least a half dozen times in his first twelve years; Lawrence never really had a permanent place that he called ‘home’. Meaning that he had barely any good memories worth reciting in those days. Instead, growing up around a wide assortment of Pokémon and professional liars. Helping his father manage his surprisingly successful traveling Pokémon circus business. With the staff members teaching young Lawrence how to work, use tools, paint sets, cook food, and clean up after himself. Spending his early childhood without much strict parental guidance from his actual legal guardians. Often learning to do most things himself, and playing with the Pokémon performers whenever he wanted attention.
Not that his mother didn’t try to spoil Lawrence with hugs and kisses—or by singing at his bedside until he fell asleep. She just happened to be busy running her “timeshare cruise line”, and preferred being the one who always said “yes” to Lawrence’s wants. In contrast to his stricter father, who had someone in the family homeschool him—an aunt who'd do it for free—because he ironically had zero trust in the public school system. However, this ill-advised freedom of his, had eventually led Lawrence to befriending a small group of street hooligans in his preteens. Soon getting himself into frequent trouble with them and committing petty crimes; like stealing something without getting caught. A particular rite of passage in his so-called circle of fellow delinquents.
His first instance being the very Pokéball that he used to capture his Toxel with. A chance encounter, turned kindred spirit, who seemed to like everything about him. Happening to be the one to discover her on his way back from the crime; where he’d find her sneaking into his father’s circus tent, in order to search for some food. Lucky enough to avoid any serious consequences in the meantime. But his continued poor decisions had escalated into many more fights with his disapproving father. To the point where he threatened to release and confiscate the Toxel for his business. Finally provoking Lawrence to become a runaway at the ripe old age of fourteen. With nothing but his Toxel, and whatever else he could fit into his backpack.
But his troubles were only just beginning at that point…

Since he was burdensome enough to be abandoned once by another human already. It was a miracle that he seemed to grow fond of his trainer and big siblings as quickly as he did. "I’m a little busy right now, sorry."
Full Name: Alyssa Hudson
Age: 17 (3rd year)
Favorite Color: Purple
Favorite Subject: Math, as she finds it comes naturally to her.
Favorite Teacher: Jacq, as she admires his work on the Pokédex.
Appearance: Alyssa is on the shorter side, standing at five feet, with a small build. Over the top of her uniform, she wears a large green coat, originally belonging to her father, and on her feet she wears a pair of black combat books. Around her neck, she wears a necklace with a purple gemstone attached, handed down to her from her mother.
Personality: Upon meeting Alyssa, your first instinct may be to just say that she’s shy and move on, which isn’t entirely false. She can be quite a reserved person, preferring to keep to herself and supposedly not having much of an interest in making friends, though in general most would consider her a nice enough person, if a little quiet. But when she’s alone, or around people that she trusts, her true self shines through - she sees all sorts of beauty in the world, not just in the landscape or the wildlife of Paldea, but also in the little things, absolutely fascinated by how things work, why things do what they do. She speaks passionately when it comes to her interest, often going on long rants even if the other person has no idea what she is talking about, and when it comes to her pokémon she couldn’t be any closer to them, enjoying every single moment spent with them.
Backstory: Whilst she was originally from Galar, both her parents being international students in Papas Academy before moving back to their home country, Alyssa grew up in Madeli in the Paldea Region, having moved there at the age of three. She doesn’t have many memories of her life back in Galar, so always considered Paldea to be her home. Especially as a child, she loved to explore the landscape with her parents, the family of three often going for picnics or walks through the countryside - perhaps in her parents case to relive their school days, though Alyssa was always happy just to spend time with them. Even more so as she got older and they got busier with work, those quiet days wandering along winding paths and through the fields were the ones she treasured most.
Moving into her pre-teen years, her parents only grew busier, and she ended up spending a lot of time alone, though she found that she didn’t particularly mind. Around this time, she gained a particular interest in pokéballs, teaching herself how to pull them apart and put them back together again, trying to learn and understand their inner workings. This interest expanded into machines in general, much to the slight dismay of her parents as she began to take apart household appliances for fun (she stopped after they explained why that was a bad idea, but they still supported her interests, instead seeking out already broken beyond repair machines for her to mess around with). Later, she began to actually study mechanics, reading whatever books she could get her hands on though mostly just waiting in anticipation for her time to attend Papas Academy, already knowing that the STEM track would be perfect for her.
She finally got her first pokémon at the age of thirteen. After her parents had finally deemed her old enough to explore on her own, provided that she stayed away from areas with the more dangerous pokémon, she spent a lot of time out in the fields of Paldea, often just sitting alone and fiddling with some machinery in the fresh air, or even sketching out mechanical drawings. And often on days like this, a few pokémon would surround her, sitting at her feet as she worked, and she never really minded - pokémon had never been something she had been super interested in, other than finding a few of them cute, though catching and battling had always been more of her parents thing, and something that they’d never quite managed to instill in her, but she was more than happy to let the local wildlife flock around her, as long as they weren’t bothering her. One Mareep, however, took particular interest in her, always sitting by her side, especially if she offered head scratches, and eventually she followed her home, refusing to leave her side. Her parents allowed her to keep her, and she named the Mareep ‘Rosie’.
The introduction of Rosie in her life came at the perfect time, it just so happened, though perhaps not for the best of reasons. A few months afterwards, her mother grew suddenly ill - to begin with, she was just more tired than usual, finding everyday tasks harder and harder, until one evening she collapsed in the house, falling into unconsciousness. After being rushed to the hospital, she woke back up, but was never really herself again, constantly slipping in and out of consciousness, unable to even get out of bed. No one ever told Alyssa exactly what was wrong with her, but she knew pretty early on that her mother… wasn’t going to make it. She died just a few days after Alyssa’s fourteenth birthday.
After that, Alyssa grew more reserved, spending more time in the house, her father also taking some time off of work but obviously not in the best of mindspaces either. In this time of grief, she pushed back the start of her academic life by a year, despite being due to start soon. Thankfully, Rosie was by her side the whole time, and through the experience she grew very close to her, unsure exactly what she would have done without her.
Though eventually, shortly after she turned fifteen, it was time for her to start her education at Papas Academy, and she immediately got stuck in with her studies, trying to forget about the past year, push everything deep, deep down. And perhaps she studied a little too hard - as seen in her treasure hunt in the first year, which she spent the majority of still in school, reading random things in the library or doing extra work for classes, especially the more science-heavy ones which she did find extremely fascinating. She did head out into the wilderness a few times, having been pushed to do so by a couple of her classmates, who… she wouldn’t exactly class as ‘friends’, since she certainly wasn’t in the mood for making friends at the time, but she appreciated briefly having them by her side at least. In the end it didn’t matter too much, as the first year passed by quickly, and then it was time for her second year.
Her second year went by in a similar fashion, mostly focusing on her studies, though she did make a little bit more of an effort with her treasure hunt, deciding to go out into the world and get a closer look at some of the pokémon that Paldea had to offer. Though she still wasn’t particularly interested in battling or building a team, during this time she ended up catching a Shinx, named Danny, who she quickly grew to love just as much as her Mareep Rosie, even if Danny took a little longer to warm up to her. It was also around this time that her father decided to travel back to Galar, supposedly just for a short while to visit some family, though a short while turned into a few months which turned into a year, and eventually became permanent. Alyssa continued to attend the academy, still, staying on campus during the school year and staying in Galar over the summer.
As summer came to a close, she headed back to Paldea with a bit of a fresher mind, deciding that she would try to make the most of her third year. With the treasure hunt coming around, she figured that it may be a good time to try something new, get herself out there more, and her father had recommended trying out the gym challenge, which is something that he had done during his time at school. Certainly not something that Alyssa had ever considered trying, but she figured it was worth a shot, if only to actually force herself to get out of school for a bit and explore more of the region, maybe catch a few new pokémon along the way, and train up the ones she already had.
Pokémon:
Pokémon: Mareep Nickname: Rosie Personality: Rosie is extremely affectionate, and seems to be quite empathic, always seeming to know when Alyssa is upset and wanting to be by her side the entire time. She isn’t much of a fighter, far more interested in chewing grass or having her head scratched. Ability: Static
Pokémon: Shinx Nickname: Danny Personality: Danny is quite feisty, very active, enjoying running around and causing mayhem. He seems to have more stamina than Alyssa thinks should be feasibly possible, easily able to run circles around her, though she loves him all the same. Ability: Intimidate
Quirks:
She prefers to keep her pokémon out of their balls, letting them run around at her feet or sit with her as she works, finding their presence to be comforting.
She is pretty much always fiddling with something, whether that be a piece of machinery she left in her pockets or the necklace around her neck.
Relationships: (To be filled out as the RP progresses.)
Sam is a taller young teen- standing exactly six feet tall. His build is average with very little muscle definition, which causes his body to be softer looking. He has light skin that is very smooth and without blemishes. With a boyishly rounded face, he tends to look younger than his age. He keeps it cleanly shaved. Golden honey-colored eyes peer out from a sea of darkness created by his long bangs and black eyeliner. The eyeliner makes his eyes pop and draws attention to his indifferent gaze. It also hides the bags under Sam's eyes from the lack of sleep. Silky and straight black hair reaches down to the middle of Sam's back. There's a crimson streak of hair within the long bangs that hugs his left cheek. From the shine, even length, and lack of knots- Sam's hair is obviously well taken care of. It is often worn down with a variety of different hair clips pinned above his ear. A couple common hairclips are a skull and crossed bones and a pink heart-shaped ones. There are occasions when Sam pulls his hair into a high ponytail at the top of his head.
Sam has adopted a gothic style of clothing, so his clothes are mainly black, leather, and tight-fitting. He does often wear dark red accessories as an accent as well. A typical outfit he wears is a black long-sleeved fishnet top underneath a black skull shirt, leather pants with red belts wrapping around his thighs, and tall belted leather boots. Due to the school dress code, he doesn't get to wear his preferred outfits all the time but will still accessorize with black fingerless gloves, tons of silver chains and belts around his waist and neck, and a spiked collar choker. Sam has multiple piercings in his ears and a nose ring that are all silver in color. Whenever he needs to carry a bunch of items around, he wears a leather single-strap bag that's black and red.
Personality:
Sam gives off an insociable and tough first impression. Standing with his chest puffed out, arms crossed, and an unblinking glare- makes others think he is not one to mess with. That first instinct is not one to ignore. The teen absolutely refuses to sit down and push around by other people. He'll choose to leave the situation, most times, but there are times when he'll have some choice words. His words are blunt, sometimes cutting deeply without a care about how the other person may feel. He is often unsympathetic towards others' minor difficulties and complaints. Even when Sam isn't uncaring about something, he just depressingly states how harsh the situation is. He has a habit of judging others based on their first impression of him.
Generally, Sam is neither hostile nor friendly. He won't suddenly bite someone's head off, but he won't attempt to make conversation either. The teen will respond when addressed but will typically keep to himself. Sam tends to have more snippy and sarcastic remarks, when he becomes annoyed. Deliberately, he will say things to invoke irritation in the other person. There will also be moments where Sam will add unneeded impolite commentary. And there are the rarer moments when he is tolerant of others. Although he still seems indifferent, he'll start a conversation without being prompted. Offer to help or listen if it's nothing too troublesome. He comes off as a very quiet acquaintance who is pleasant to hang out with. It isn't a friendship with Sam, just him being willing to minorly deal with someone.
Sam is slow to fully warm up to others before putting them into the friend category. Rather than getting hurt by flighty friends, he simply doesn't make any. When deemed as a friend, Sam is an excellent one. No matter what is the problem, he willingly listens and even brainstorms ways to solve them. Troublesome things that he absolutely despises, he's willing to do for a friend. In friend groups, he is the leveled-headed, responsible one that always talks people out of doing stupid or reckless actions. Sam is truly a caring, loyal friend if one can breach his walls. The teen is generally not interested in love. Since his trust is a lengthy process to gain, most crushes on him don't last. Sam has never had that level of trust to be completely vulnerable to anyone other than family. That's not to say he doesn't find people cute or attractive. But his feelings haven't yet developed beyond that. Sam shows disinterest when directly flirted with.
Sam is a pessimist that hardly ever sees a good outcome. Thus he never set his expectations too high and is not affected when things go wrong. Calm and collected in the direst situations, this helps him think and maybe find a solution. When others try to force their optimistic views on him, he finds it annoying. Which causes him to ignore it altogether or find flaws that could cause it to turn out badly. He doesn't dislike positive thinking; he just doesn't like to be told how to feel. Sam hates pretty much anything that tries to change him into something he's not.
Sam likes to be by himself and just let his thoughts wander. While he cherishes his alone time, he tends to have fun whenever he hangs out with others. It's just that he gets worn out pretty fast being around a bunch of happy and hyper people. He absolutely loves flowers, cute things, and sweets- and he is not embarrassed to admit it. At the same time, he also really likes- gothic clothing, piercings, and chains, even though it create a bad image. Either way, Sam just stays true to himself- loving and doing whatever he wants without being restrained by other opinions.
Backstory:
Floaroma Town, Sinnoh, is where Samuel was born. His parents were a carefree and lively couple who rarely considered the consequences of their actions. Despite their boisterous and cheery attitude, then son grew up as a quiet and serious kid that could take him of himself. His personality never brought any worries to his parents as he was a well-behaved even if wasn't very talkative. Unfortunately, kids his age saw him as eerily silent and unsociable, so Sam had no friends in his small hometown. He spent most of his free time sitting and taking in the sweet scent of flowers in the meadow north of the town. He had just turned seven when his parents' work moved them to Goldenrod City in Johto.
Sam was also unpopular with his peers in this new city. Being used to having no friends, he was indifferent toward the treatment. When he started to get a taste for black and darker shades of gothic clothing, adults also began to think he was up to no good. What was unexpected was despite the many rumors about him being a troublemaker, a boy named Marquel began to approach Sam in a friendly manner. Having zero experience with kids his age being nice to him, the boy took a more defensive stance toward him. But even that didn't deter the stubborn boy. Although after their random meeting while he was visiting the local flower shop, the fact Marquel didn't find anything odd with it caused Sam warm up to him. Even though it seems one-sided on Marquel's side to others, to Sam, he was best friend. However, his parents were transferred to another region after only a little over two years. It hurt Sam a lot to leave behind the only friend he had ever made, but promised that no matter what they'll always be best friends.
His parents were transferred two times before settling in Hau'oli City-Alola as their new home. The moving from place to place really jaded him to forming connections with others, since he could move at anytime and be forced to leave them behind. Even though Sam's gothic aesthetic taste in clothing clashed with the colorful Alola atomsphere, people here were actually quite friendly regardless. However, their overwhelming friendliness and generosity rubbed him the wrong way. It reminded him too much of Marquel, which still hurt a lot to separate from. So Sam found himself not getting close to anyone. Probably due to the birth of his twin brother and sister, his parents job stayed in Alola for longer than usual.
Sam was around twelve at the time and would often venture out unsupervised into pokémon-infected areas without having a pokémon of his own. It wasn't that he didn't want a pokémon, just the pokémon selected for him didn't choose him back. Though he brushed it off it was actually a pretty big blow that not even pokémon wanted to be near him. He eventually found his favorite place on the island, Melemele Meadow. He would just sit there and take in the sweet scent of the yellow flowers. It reminded him of his hometown and Goldenrod city's flower shop, so it was relaxing. He would spend hours sitting there- from early morning to nightfall. It wasn't uncommon for a group of Cutiefly to flutter over him. One particular Cutiefly would always fly really close to him. He stood out from the group because the pokemon was a spot of pink upon the sea of yellow. After this happened so many times, it eventually just started perching on his head and going home with him.
Manly the Cutiefly became his pokémon. With the tiny fairy bug by his side, his hardened exterior softened up. His defenses were still up, but it became more common to see his kinder side. With his more girlish liking of cute things, he would brighten up with his cute little pokémon of his. Most likely due to his Cutiefly's presence, teens his age began to approach and talk with him more. While he never truly bonded with another human in Alola, he could have conversations and had minor acquaintances. So much so, he was even a little sad leaving them when his family moved to the Paldea.
Sam expected just another stop where he would occasionally meet kids around his neighborhood before having to move again. But this time, he found himself being enrolled in the Papas Academy where he would live in the dorms. He wasn't very excited about it, but he's finding some of his classes entertaining. Sam is trying his best not to get his hopes too high.
Pokémon: Cutiefly Nickname: Manly
Personality: Despite being the tiny little bug/fairy he is, Manly is quite the sassy bug. The bold little critter has no fear of standing up to beings over 100 times bigger than it. He doesn't prefer fighting but will definitely pick some when he feels insulted or people treat Sam rudely. When Manly isn't fluttering around flowers to gather pollen and nectar, he loves to perch on his trainer's head and observe his surroundings. The Cutiefly often tries to get Sam to be more sociable by going over to what he considers an acceptable human.
