@AlternateMan Ranged classes such as gunslinger don't participate in hand to hand combat as that would impede on other melee classes, especially monk. If you're stuck on how your character should fight, you can look at other gun classes in FF!

@Vertigo Gunblades are kinda their standalone thing in this setting, think of Thancred from FFXIV or Squall from FFXIII ^^ But I like your ideas~

Also guys, please considerate of the gender ratio! We don't want all females or all males. Also, discuss what kind of character you might go going for. Remember that classes marked with * are rarer than usual!

Looks like gun-kata is out of business then.
I had this weird idea of a man that can make healing soup, but didn't really have a clear combat class in mind.
I'll be rolling my brain around tryna think something up.

@Ambra I'm brainstorming ideas and the only idea I can think of thus far is a mage who only uses water and ice magic out of devotion to Danube. Since there aren't any priest or cleric sort of classes, I'm wondering if that's okay? I'm thinking though a series of events, my character is convinced that Danube has helped him and his family (whether real or coincidental is in the air) and so he feels he must live his life with devotion towards the God.

Also, I am awful at finding pictures for my characters, so would a written description be okay?

@AlternateMan You can always make someone who likes cooking as a hobby.

@Zapdos You're probably thinking of white mage if you're thinking of a priest or cleric, though I'm making one ;_; and we are kinda getting a lot of messages already lol

@Ambra I meant priest or cleric in terms of religious affiliation, not in terms of the type of magic. I was thinking more offensive magic rather than healing, actually. Although maybe he can throw snowballs at people to heal them :p

Jokes aside, I wasn't trying to steal your white mage idea, and I can bow out if there's not enough space in the roleplay.

Oops when I said messages I meant mages, heh. You're more than welcome to make a character.

As for offensive mages, we already have a black mage and red mage in the works. If there's anything we need, and of course if you're up for it, it's the physical classes ^^

I got this weird idea just now of pulling out a machinegun to rain bullets while using the barrel heat to stir the soup at the same time for Limit Break

Hygienes are, of course, kept in mind.

Aw, okay, so variations don't really exist! Also might be a stupid question but-- can you actually shoot with a gunblade? From what I read it seems like you just use the gun portion to power up the blade itself ): (haven't played any FF game that had them, so never seen them in action).

As for sharing ideas, I know I'm making a male Viera, but kind of flip flopping between two very different personalities atm. Speaking of, got some questions about Viera in this AU specifically:

- Are the males and females separated still, or do they all function in the same tribe, just with the females in lead roles?
- Do male viera tend to be submissive by nature or is that a cultural thing? I'm sure exceptions exist either way, but just to know what's the norm!

@Vertigo From what I've reviewed, gunblades don't really shoot projectiles but create a targeted explosion that goes off by pressing a trigger once it makes contact with the target.

"In Final Fantasy VIII gunblades have a blade with a firing mechanism built into the hilt, the barrel running inside a part of the blade. They are mostly used like normal swords, but triggering a round causes the blade to release a targeted explosion as the weapon passes through an opponent to boost damage."

And from XIV: As of the Shadowbringers expansion, the Gunbreaker job introduces gunblades more in the vein of Final Fantasy VIII, defining itself from similar Garlean weaponry through the use of enchanted cartridges to produce magical effects.

As for your question about Viera, they are still separated and the males are just more submissive in a cultural sense. ^^

Hmmm
Would it be possible for a bard to use a crossbow instead of a traditional bow?

That makes sense. If I can think of a physical class sort of character, I'll submit a CS.

@Ambra
Two questions.

Is materia limited to the spell types, or can we have the more passive, "stat"y materia like MP Turbo?

And do Faye age similarly to Sollans, or are they long-lived like Elves in other media?

@Cu Chulainn Passive materia is allowed as long as you have an idea how to incorporate it into writing.

I've got the notes for my character mostly written out. Will try and squeeze some time in to get my sheet up while I'm at work.

Does Ether exist in this world btw? I'm thinking of making my casty boi addicted to it.

I completely forgor about this earlier, but since you mentioned jobs being available later back in the int check, does this mean there'll be job changes/multiclassing later on?
