Five years ago, the Hypnos Corporation released their highly anticipated game, Digimon: Emergence. By utilizing augmented reality and real-time GPS tracking, players could use their smartphones to track down Digimon in the real world, and battle against and alongside other players. The game quickly became a worldwide phenomenon, and Hypnos Corporation became one of the most profitable companies in the world in the span of six months. Of course, the game wasn't without its problems, but after being cooped up by global pandemic, people were looking for any excuse to get out of the house. As time went on, the bugs were ironed out, but the game still has little issues here and there.

As with any game, there have been all kinds of stories tied to it. Some are sweet, wholesome stories that were featured on the news, like "I met my husband during a boss raid!". However, other rumors and legends have been swirling around the internet.

"My Digimon said my name!"

"I saw a real Koromon in the park!"

"Guilmon stole my sandwich!?"

Most people dismiss these stories as outright lies, or guerilla marketing for the game. However many people insist that these strange stories that tie back to Digimon are true. One rumor in particular has reached the status of urban legend in the city of Tokyo after it was posted on the anonymous forum Nichannel.

I was playing D:E in the park near his school after the sun went down. My friend told me that he'd found lots of rare Digimon there, and they only came out at night. I waited for so long, but I didn't see a single Digimon on my phone. I was about to head home when I saw a glowing blue flame among the trees. I was mesmerized. Something about it seemed to want to come close to it. I drew closer to the flame, but it began moving away. I started following the fire until it came to a stop at an old shrine. Sitting there were two women in fox masks wearing outfits like shrine maidens'. They were singing in a language I didn't understand.

When their song finished, they turned to look at me. I had no idea who they were, but being near them, I felt a sense of peace. One of them, whose outfit was red, asked me a question: "Art thou a Tamer?" I was confused by what she meant, at first. The second, dressed in black, blew a smoke ring from her pipe, and said, "What my sister means is, do you play Digimon: Emergence?"

I was confused. Why would they want to know if I played a game on my phone? I simply answered, yes, and the two shrine maidens smiled. "We have a gift for you," the woman in black said. "But you must answer this question for us: do you want your Digimon to be stronger, or do you want them to have new abilities?"

"Why not both?" I asked. The two mikos chuckled, and the woman in red wagged her finger at me.

"Thou art too greedy, little boy," she chided. "Come and find us again when thine heart is purer."

There was a bright flash of light, and I covered my eyes. When I opened them again, the two mikos were nowhere in sight, and the air felt charged with electricity. I have no photos or videos to back this story up, but it actually happened. If you see the two maidens, don't make the same mistake I did.

Hypnos has made no comment on any of these stories beyond, "People have such vivid imaginations!" But are all of these accounts just stories fabricated to entertain fellow internet users? Or is there a kernel of truth to them? There's only one way to find out...

Digimon as a Franchise in Materialization

The Digimon franchise started as a line of virtual pets in the mid-90's. Due to the V-pets' popularity, Digimon swiftly gained other forms of media, including trading card games, anime and manga, and several light novel series; curiously enough the powers that be seemed incredibly hesitant to branch out into the video game market. That changed in 2016, with the release of Digimon: Tamers' World, an open world MMORPG. The next successful video game was Digimon: Emergence, released on the heels of worldwide Stultuvirus-19 lockdowns being lifted. As of 2026, Digimon: Emergence has become one of the highest-grossing mobile games of all time.

Digimon: Emergence

Digimon: Emergence comes with many features, including collecting and battling Digimon. When a Digimon is encountered in the wild, its data is scanned. When enough data of a particular Digimon has been collected, the data can be turned into a DigiEgg, which hatches after traveling a certain distance. Extra Digimon collected are kept on Farm Islands, where they live and play, as well as work to produce items for their Tamer.

X-Antibody Digimon

Certain Digimon have forms related to the X-Antibody, and a select few Digimon lines naturally occur with the X-Antibody in their Digicores. Digimon that have a large enough concentration of X-Antibodies in their Digicores can transform into their X-Antibody forms. These forms are more powerful than their base form, but behave in a much more animalistic manner, and are more difficult for a Tamer to control; Digimon that naturally have the X-Antibody seem to be immune to this, and behave more like normal Digimon.

Digivices

Gifts from the Mikos given to a select few Tamers, there are two Digivices available. Both variants are able to induce Digivolution in a Tamer's partner, as well as store and access items from Digimon: Emergence.
  • Digivice SP: A Digivice transformed from a smartphone. When Digivolved to another level, a Digimon gains a 20% boost in power.
  • Digivice VB: The Digivice VB allows Tamers to make use of Digital Modification (DiM) cards to provide a Digimon with attacks and abilities that it normally wouldn't be able to use. DiM cards can be obtained by defeating different Digimon, from Digimon living in DigiFarms, or by purchasing them from [REDACTED].

Took a little bit of liberty with the setting and such, so please let me know if I overstepped or did anything wrong.

@The World Looks good. I wasn't expecting a bio or personality section that in-depth, but that's a pleasant surprise. Approved.

Ah fuck it, I'm in! Idea seems fairly dope and I can't help myself when it comes to Digimon

How many digimon "partners" can we have? I saw @The World has 2 but is there a limit to how many we can have as "main" partners? Any specific kind of circumstances for multiple partners?

@metanoia 2 main partners maximum, and they have to start out as Rookies.

Oh bitchin'! This will be fun to think about which two i wanna use. I tend to put a theme of some kind on my tamers/digimon partners, so with two, i'm gonna have some fun with this.

EDIT: Another question: Are we limited to data/vaccine or can we go virus too?

@tobiax Okay, I've read it. Approved.

@The World@tobiax Since all three of us have opted for X-Antibody Digimon, I've taken the liberty and added a section about X-Antibody Digimon to the opening post. Review that briefly before the RP begins proper, if you please. ^^

Sick, love it. It suits me just fine. Although, is it alright if I have my Greymon X be an homage to the OVA Greymon in its size?

@tobiax I'm afraid that's a bit too large for a Champion level. It's been a while since I've seen the movie, but if I remember correctly, that particular Greymon was around three stories tall (or around thirty feet/ten meters). For reference, the most complete T. rex ever found, Sue, measured 13 feet (almost 4 meters). I would accept a Champion level Digimon being around the ten foot/3.05 meter range at most.

I remember that being mentioned, although I can't find anything to confirm it.

From this shot here, it appears that Greymon is ten feet at the shoulder, and in more of a long than tall stance. I understand not wanting Digimon too large at the beginning, though I was only looking for a visual reference, and not any kind of attack boost out of being that large.
And at least I'm not trying to pull this off :P

Although I do find this scene very funny.

Although on further inspection, Greymon is right next to a car overpass/underpass, it seems, which, if we can find the average height of one of those in Japan, should give us a general shoulder height of the Greymon from the OVA. But that's kind of off track and unnecessary.
The point was, OVA Greymon rarely talks, as does the big Agumon in the OVA, and that was more of the lead-in, tbh.
EDIT: I'd be happy with a ~3 by ~7 meter Greymon X. Smaller than a T. rex, but still considerably large without being absurd.

@Crimson Flame Approved.

Boy, we got us one dysfunction junction coming up. I could use it to plan out some shorter story arcs.
