Chapter 1: Inquisition

@PaulHaynek@Polaris North@Hammerman@Enkryption@Silverstein@The Irish Tree@Frozen0Titan

It was morning and the recruits were gathered in the mess hall for breakfast. Along with them, were some of the other reavers: Namely Roze, Rue, Lapis, and Eve. Of course, Bellum was also present, being that she was the dietary manager and only cook for the Tower currently. The other staff members of the Tower opted to eat breakfast in their offices, wanting to get a heads up on their work. Lapis and Eve were sitting with Rue and Roze, who were talking about their previous missions, whereas Shavis was with Scarlett and both were catching up from yesterday.

”Get outta here.” Said Ruecian. ”I knew she was a weirdo, but I didn’t realize she was a cannibal too. AND she swallowed some of the waste??”

”It’s all true!” Lapis said, assuring her brother. ”She did the same thing to some of the Makara. But, at the same time, it was thanks to her that we were able to make an antidote and restore the Makara to normal. ”

”Still though, that’s really gross..” Eve chimed in. ”I’m surprised that she’s even still alive.”

”Perhaps we shouldn’t be gossiping about someone who’s sitting right near us?” Roze said, scolding her teammates.

”Eh, I don’t think she minds.”” Ruecian said, jovially. ”Besides, she probably takes pride in it.”

Chucking to himself, Rue reached for his cup of drink to wash down some of his food. However, before it reached his lips, he would find it immediately snatched out of his hand. The perpetrator was revealed to be a feline belua male, who wore interesting tribal-like garb and had a snide expression on his face.

”Aaah~” The beastman made a satisfying expression of refreshness, slammed the cup on the table with such force that plates of everyone present jump up a few inches, and put his face a few centimeters from Ruecian’s. ”Mate, you get uglier every godsdamn time I see ya!”

The feline individual began to break out in a hearty chuckle, before promptly having the moisture on his lips suddenly frozen, causing him to topple back a bit as he covered his mouth with a confused yelp. ”It’s barely the crack of dawn, can you not act like the crack of a Rhydrogon’s ass?” Moaned Rue in a tired tone. ”Honestly…” Lapis looked over around her plate to make sure no food was spilled. ”Hello Xashan. I see you’re back from your trip to the mountains.” Said Roze calmly, taking a sip of tea. Evelyn responded with a chuckle of her own. ”Bumbling troglodyte!”

Quickly wiping the frost from his mouth, Xashan snarled at Rue with an annoyed gaze. ”I expected a better welcome after a long and treacherous mission, little man!” He said.

”I figured a big man like yourself could handle such a job. But, I guess your stature is not as big as your ego, unfortunately…” Ruecian retorted. At his quip, the tension in the air thickened as the two began to square each other down. That is, until, a gentle but authoritative voice broke through their stalemate.

”Though I’m pleased to see everyone so lively, perhaps you should settle down a bit.” The two belua turned to see a familiar woman with long silver hair, her milky complexion almost seeming to shimmer in the morning light. Her crimson eyes appearing like rubies, she had a smile on her face which didn’t detract from the scolding expression her squint suggested. Beside her was standing a fairly tall, fair-skinned man whose garb suggested that he was a traveler of sorts.

”Oh! Lady Selini!!” Evelyn became starry-eyed at the arrival of the woman. To be fair, the famed Chaos Witch had many an admirer both far and wide. She responded with a friendly wave. ”Eve, you needn’t be so formal with me. Brun is fine, it’s not like we’re strangers!” She doubted she would ever take heed to those words, having repeated them to Eve several times since she graduated from the academy. ”Aside from that, where are my manners? To all the new faces her, my name is Brunhyldia Amelia Selini, and I serve as an administrator of sorts for the Eon Tower. Here with me, we have a new potential addition to the team. She gestured to the young man standing with her. ”His name is Damian Florestas, a world famous photographer, some know him as the Beast Whisperer.” She looked toward him, making an inviting gesture. ”Breakfast is currently being served if you wanted to partake and get to know everyone, Damian. Once Arteus returns, you two can have your discussion.”

Turning her attention back to everyone in the room, her tone became a bit more serious. ”Arteus is currently dealing with a few matters in regards to some…disburbances in some local regions, so I’ll be here to answer any questions in the meantime. I’ll also look over some requests and see which ones would be best to divvy out to you all, in the meantime you can handle any other affairs you may have for now. Ah there is one more thing… This week, there will be an inquisitor from the Holy Church visiting.” Her tone was now dead serious. ”This is part of their bi-annual inspection of all magus sects, and while we are autonomous we are no less subject. We ask that you all remain on your P’s and Q’s.”

After that, her expression turned back into a more gentle one. ”Still, as I said, take a bit of time to settle some of your personal affairs and further acclimate yourselves to the Tower. In the meantime, I’ll be in the meeting area. There’s a young woman who wants to discuss a few things with me.” With that, she left the mess hall, leaving Damian alone with all of the other reavers.

”Another newbie, eh?”” Mushed Xashan. ”Well, you think you have what it takes to join the Tower?”

”Still can’t help but be an ass to everyone you meet, can you? Rue said. ”Still though, the work we often do is quite dangerous. If you can’t hack it, perhaps it’s best you not bother. I think Selini said something about you being a photographer? Perhaps you’d be good with joining Naomi over in the taxonomy department?” While one could argue that Ruecian’s statement wasn’t too dissimilar to Xashan’s, it was at least perhaps more pragmatic.

With that, the reavers could finish their meal and take some time to delve into their own personal tasks. For example, they could perhaps visit the alchemy lab or library to procure some more materials and supplies for the coming work, or obtain some more magical weapons from Childes shop. Renee and Lanus may have raised a brow when Brun mentioned that she had to speak to a young woman about something, it was a long shot but perhaps they would become curious enough to investigate.

By design, breakfast was meant to be a meal enjoyed in peace; the first moment of the day given a true purpose. For Scarlett, it afforded that rare instance that she didn't have a million thoughts buzzing in her head, and even her Miasmatic Mistress was quiet.

Perhaps, that's why the scene she found herself in rang so dreadfully of a highschool lunchroom with designed cliques of the jocks, preps, goths, and geeks and not the professional lunchroom of a business in the business of saving the world from magical threats and the like.

On any other day, she wouldn't have given enough fucks to the gossip; after all, what is idle prattle for, if not the establishment of the Mean Girls?

Unfortunately, this was not one of those days...

Scarlett was sick; her body was still rejecting what it couldn't take care of. Her DNA and the Makara DNA were dramatically spaced apart, and she was struggling to take care of it over herself. As such, she was operating on a microscopically short fuse, which had blown listening to the Mean Girls gossiping over the mission. Sure, she knew that it would be a topic of conversation, once Lapis hooked up with her clique...

...didn't mean she had the patience for it.

Standing, Scarlett held an iron pot that she created under the table; a gash on her left wrist kitting closed. Almost phantom-like, Scarlett swooshed over to the table that hosted the Mean Girls and some unimportant Belua adorned in gaudy jewels and attire. Speaking no words, she poured a nose-crushingly putrid mixture of bodily waste into the existing bowls, before she puked her breakfast into the pot - slamming it down onto the table.

"I overheard you talking shit, so I thought you were hungry," Scarlett says, before wiping her lips. "Please, enjoy. It's hot and fresh," she offered with a sickening politeness, like a mother offering her home cooking to strangers, as she said, "and made with love."

Before anyone at the table could muster anything to strike back with, Scarlett turned and shuffled off. She needed to find Elaine, and get some antibiotics to bolster her system to help fight off this infection. As she passed her table, she transformed her arms into a spear, and harpooned an apple; looking back, she crunched into it with a wink that one could swear made a *~ding!* sound just to exemplify the signature of an asshole.

Renee Terfiel and Lanus Retily
Interactions: @AzureKnight

"Haah…"

Renee yawned, stretching her arms upwards before rubbing her eyes with her hands.

She and Lanus had just entered the mess hall and already some of the other Reavers could tell that they didn't seem to get enough sleep last night. Both of them had dark circles under their eyes and they looked like they just woke up.

Making their way to Bellum, they grabbed their food before taking their seats besides the other Reavers. Throughout the meal, they mostly kept to themselves, though Renee couldn't resist chiming in to some of their conversations.

"I'm sorry, who's the cannibal again?" Renee asked with disbelief.

She didn't need to wait long for that question to be answered, for Scarlett soon swooshed over to their table before pouring a nose-crushingly putrid mixture of bodily waste into the existing bowls, followed by her own puke.

Thankfully, she left her and Lanus's bowl alone. But it didn't stop the fae from watching her with an open mouth, in complete and utter disbelief with what had just transpired. What a revolting person! She thought to herself.

Lanus, on the other hand, merely chuckled as he took a sip of his tea, finding the whole thing more amusing than anything.

When the beastman arrived, just like the others, she also jumped on her seat when the beastman slammed the cup on the table. She quickly gave him an annoyed look though she didn't say anything, opting to resume eating her bread instead. Apparently his name is Xashan and he just returned from a trip to the mountains.

The arrival of Selini quickly grabbed the attention of both fae, with Lanus quickly sizing up her beauty while Renee fangirling over the fact that the Witch of Chaos herself was here.

She remained silent as she spoke, nodding to every word she said. She didn't really care about the newcomer, having never heard of him, and so her gaze was kept solely towards the woman.

Lanus, on the other hand, did glance towards him. The Beast Whisperer, huh? How interesting. Who knows he out of all people would be joining our ranks? Wonder why a freelancer like him decides to throw his hat with us all of a sudden?

Still, he quickly returned his attention back towards Selini, his gaze ogling her slightly exposed cleavage.

This week, there will be an inquisitor from the Holy Church visiting.” Her tone was now dead serious. ”This is part of their bi-annual inspection of all magus sects, and while we are autonomous we are no less subject. We ask that you all remain on your P’s and Q’s.”

At this statement, Lanus raised his eyebrows. "An Inquisitor? From the Church?"

"That doesn't sound good." Renee commented with an annoyed expression, still holding her half-eaten toast. "I'll try getting out of their way. I'm not good at all at playing nice with obnoxious people."

Lanus had to stifle his laugh, hearing his girlfriend say that. Patting her on the head, he then said, "You can leave all the talking to me, my dear. Still…" He looked back at the woman. "I'd rather not meet that inquisitor either."

The two had a run-in with a Church personnel before. And boy, did that turn out bad.

There’s a young woman who wants to discuss a few things with me.”

Renee and Lanus exchanged looks the moment they heard that sentence. Was that who they thought they were?

The two quickly stood up to follow the woman.

Leon Hyksos

The Dagger and The Grimoire

As a nocturnal person, Leon doesn't have enough energy to socialize early this morning in this gathering. He feels lethargic, almost falling asleep listening to people around him; Sluggishly eating his breakfast and leaning his head against his arm for support. His eyes almost shutting close from exhaustion.

Even half awake, the fae rogue is very aware of his surroundings. He can hear tidbits of interaction and jest amongst reavers, both old and new.

His attention was diverted towards the rowdy bunch at the end of the table, The new arrivals who presented themselves as rockstars coming back from a high-rank mission. Bigshot veterans that have been doing this dance based on how they acted around Rue and the others. well, 2 out of 3 at least. The other one seems to be a new recruit. The photographer. Damian the beast whisperer.

The sluggish fae continues to stare at them unflinchingly while eating a bowl of oatmeal. His cold lifeless stare could come as offensive and rude if they notice Leon watching them from afar.

The chaos witch huh? Looks like Mrs. Evelyn can stop gushing about her. She's like the sophisticated upgraded version of her. I wonder if she's unhinged as she is.

As his moniker implies, you can already tell Damian's an esper designated to speak to animals. Even the rogue fae can't do that. It takes real patience to understand savagery more than people.

And lastly the feral Belua, Xashan. He sure is loud as a lion's roar, huge as a towering mountain, and.. smelly as a wet dog's fur. I'm sure hope he isn't an esper, or else he'll flatten me for the remark alone.

As for the Eon/Holy Church meeting Brunhyldia announced, Leon seems to be unbothered by the news. I haven't done anything blasphemous or illegal lately so I think I'm good. Better steer clear just to be sure.<?>

Speaking of illegal things, I think that hoarder Kiff wants me to sort out his smuggled goods in his inventory. He said there's an old grimoire that only faes can decipher. He said those who can unlock it can change the future. Is he trying to con me or something? I doubt that's the case.

Either way maybe i should drop by the library to sort those out.

~ Eon Tower Mess Hall ~

Poring through the books last night bore no fruit, to Einer's frustration. A shady, pale-skinned man named Kiff offered to help the bard in the latter's endeavor, but Einer politely declined. Leon appeared to need Kiff's attention more than he did so the musician kindly moved aside and focus on his search alone. Einer read and read through the night, but found only vague instructions of the old methods of casting magic in the distant past. Still, Einer was not giving up. There was always another day.

And another day came, the members of the Eon Tower had gathered in the mess hall for breakfast. Einer had foregone breakfast for now, opting to play a cheerful tune for the dining mages of the Tower. An unneeded sacrifice, but Einer was not feeling the pangs of hunger. Rather, he felt the ever-familiar pangs of failure instead. The music he played was as much for him as his fellow mages.

But the tune stopped when Scarlett started a scene, vomiting her bile upon an unfortunate pot before serving it to some Beluan mages that included Lapis and her brother Ruecian. The sight made the bard even less hungry, he was probably not eating until lunch because of this.

Still, Scarlett's lack of tact and manners... nay, lack of respect for anyone and anything that wasn't herself was amusing in a way. "I pity the one who must clean all that." Einer remarked to everyone present. "I'd offer aid, but I don't think my music can dispel the horrid stenches. Unnatural as this may be."

Eon Reception Room

@Hammerman

”I see. So, that’s the reason our team was selected for that assignment in the first place was…”

”Yes, it was because of my recommendation. We-I was desperate and needed an out. Looking back, I can see how pointless it all was. We were posed to be sacrificial lambs from the start, it’s a horrible feeling.”

”It’s fine. You couldn’t help your position, and thankfully our team was more than capable of handling the situation.”

The Fae couple would hear some familiar voices coming from a room they happened upon as they made their way down the hallway. ”It appears we have some guests that wish to join us.” The voice came clearly from Brun. She likely felt the signatures of the two and knew they were outside. Upon entering they would see Brun sitting on an ornate couch, across from a young lady the fae lovers had met previously, separated by a small table. Brun turned to greet them with a smile, while the other woman was seemingly shocked by their appearance.

”Good Morning, my goodness, I thought you two would’ve still been in the mess hall. I was just having a discussion about this fine young lady’s future plans, hopefully involving her becoming a new member of Eon.” Brun said. ”I believe you all are already acquainted?”

The woman in question, of course, was Rana Schuellen, the magus they met during the Necropolis mission and saw home. ”Oh, uh, Good Morning to the both of you. It’s certainly pleasant to see you both again. As for this meeting…” She scratched her cheek, having a sheepish expression on her face. ”This is a bit embarrassing to admit, but I wasn’t able to really come up with anything on where to go from here, so I decided to explore avenues at this tower. Um, that is, if you all don’t mind having some b-list magus researcher as part of your fold. Hehe…”

”I don’t see that being a problem.” Brun replied. ”In fact, I’ve already thought of where we can start you off at. I was thinking of having you perform some operational and administrative tasks around the Tower. In addition to communicating tasks and providing organizational support for the staff, you’ll also be the one to organize and display all requests that Eon receives, ensuring all postings are effectively expressed to the reavers. Of course, you’d be reporting directly to me.”

Rana blinked a few times, taking in Brun’s explanation. ”That…that sounds like I’d be the Tower’s secretary essentially.”

”Do you feel that your skills would be better suited elsewhere?” Brun said. ”Come to think of it, you were researching more effective ways of combining thaumaturgical principles with other magics, yes? Perhaps working under Elaine and Donovan would be a good start.”

”Oh! I’m not complaining by any stretch, I’m fine with wherever you decide to place me! Umm, just so long as it’s not more fieldwork. I…I can’t really…fight anymore…” Rana said weakly.

Brun noticed the somber tone in her statement, which dampened the mood in the room a bit. ”It’s alright, dear, really. I understand. With that, we’d be more than happy to have you as our operations specialist. Of course, you’re more than welcome to act as a research consultant as well.

”Thank you, I’m glad to be here. Rana said, looking toward Renee and Lanus. ”Well, guys, it looks like I’ll be in your hair longer yet.”

Eon Library and Artifact Repository

@Silverstein

Leon made his way to the library quite swiftly, having memorized the quickest routes. Upon entering through the large doors, he would see Kiff sipping on a cup of coffee while messing with some rather peculiar artifacts. ”Back again first thing in the morning, Mr. Leon?” Kiff said in a jovial tone, not looking up as the fae lad entered the room. ”I take it your being here means that you’re on board with offering your assistance?”

Moving the artifacts off to the side, the collector opened a drawer in his desk and pulled out an old and odd-looking book. Dusting it off a bit with his hand, he placed it on the table, making an audible thud on the varnish as he did. I’ll tell you that this was one of my more interesting finds.” He said. ”This tome doesn’t usually find its way into the hands of humans, don’t ask me how I got it! As I’ve stated, I have no way of deciphering it, but fortunately some fae members have recently joined our ranks. So now, I entrust this tome to you. Provided you’re up for the challenge of decrypting its text.”

"That voice…" Renee paused the moment she got close to the door. "That's…"

"That's her voice, yes. It seems our dear mage has made her decision at last. That was certainly faster than expected." Lanus grinned.

It didn't take long until Brun invited the two in the room. And sure enough, they thought right, for Rana was indeed inside the room. Renee quickly gave her a smile, followed by Lanus.

”Good Morning, my goodness, I thought you two would’ve still been in the mess hall. I was just having a discussion about this fine young lady’s future plans, hopefully involving her becoming a new member of Eon.” Brun said. ”I believe you all are already acquainted?”

"Indeed we have," Renee replied, still smiling ear to ear.

Hehe…”

"That's a great idea, Lana!" Renee came over to her and grabbed her hands with excitement. "You'll fit here just fine! Don't you worry! I'll be there if you need anything!"

"And I, too, am at your service, Milady." Lanus gave one of his characteristic bows.

The two took their seats beside Rana, with Renee sending a slightly threatening glare towards Brun, ready to lash out if she gave her a job Rana didn't want to do.

Thankfully, that didn't come to pass, as Brun wisely gave her the role of an operation specialist, a role that she was perfectly happy with.

”Thank you, I’m glad to be here. Rana said, looking toward Renee and Lanus. ”Well, guys, it looks like I’ll be in your hair longer yet.”

"I'll be in your care as well, Rana!" Renee smiled, shaking her hand.

"And me as well." Lanus kissed her hand, flashing her his charming smile.

Hector Wyland

It was rather funny, how much completely exhausting yourself of magical energy made everything a bit of a blur for a few hours. By the time Hector came to, they were already on the carriage ride back, with his consciousness only continued thanks to Lapis' magic.

There wasn't much that Hector could do on the way back or afterwards, and even into the morning Hector was possessed by a certain listlessness that prevented him from getting any meaningful rest. In actuality...what had he done, by the end of their assignment? Nothing worthy of conversation. All eyes and mouths were on Scarlett. For her failings as a human and her successes as a magus. ...Humiliating was a light way to put it. Hector was completely outdone by someone whom he'd barely regarded as human. Enough so that the gossip was irritating him. Perhaps if Scarlett could learn control, he wouldn't have despised her from the outset.

...And then she, literally and figuratively, threw shit at her gossipers and left. Hector's spoon that had almost reached his open mouth would just dangle and fall into the oatmeal he'd been eating, the sniper's appetite readily slain by Scarlett's, let's say, "marking of territory" before he got up and walked away. Shaken from his stupor by the most disgusting thing he'd seen since his eye was slashed from its socket, Hector had something important to attend to.

His firepower had barely proven effective against the Makara, so he thought it might be best to consult an expert at gunsmithing. One Johannes Childes, who was exactly what Hector needed to get an edge in future skirmishes. Thankfully, the smell of chemicals and bourbon was less offensive than Scarlett's leavings, and as such Hector was at least noseblind enough to stomach the workshop. It was strange, seeing magic used in such a scientific manner. The marksman always assumed most magic rituals were chicken blood, devil summoning, and other crude acts. "I've been told you're the person to come for regarding magical weaponry?" Hector asked, hopefully loud enough for the old man to hear.

Eon Tower

Meeting Room - Interactions: @Hammerman @Enkryption
Lanus suddenly kissing Rana’s hand gave her a surprise; her expression twisted into one of exasperation as she blushed. ”My, quite bold aren’t we? Here’s hoping we work well together...” She said in an annoyed tone, quickly pulling her hand away from the flirtatious Fae.

Brun clapped her hands together. ”Excellent!” She said, cheerfully. ”With that out of the way, Rana, what say we acclimate you to your new role?”

Rana looked at the stand-in chief-of-staff with perplexed eyes. ”Umm…acclimate how?”

”I’m glad you asked!” Brun cheerfully said, clasping her hands together with her eyes in a gleeful squint. ”I was finally able to scrounge these up!”

The Chaos Witch revealed a large folder which seemed to be filled with documentation. ”These are some of the requests that came through, please take them.” Handing Rana the folder, the young woman opened them to reveal its contents.

”They’re all neatly organized and ready to be put on display in the main hall! Just as I would expect from you, Rana!” Brun chimed. ”Just in time for a couple of more to see.” She said, having seen Bellum and the crossbreed Belua Lupina arrive in front of the doorway.

”Oh, morning there Brun-dearie!” Bellum said, ”I was just showing little Lupina here around the Tower. At the end of the tour I wanted her to sit and meet with you, but the poor thing’s telling me that she’d famished! So, I reckon I’d better fix her something up in the kitchen first before anything~ Oh! Who’s that fine little lady you have with you right there?” Bell inquired, looking over at Rana. She also waved at Lanus and Renee who were present in the room as well.

Brun and Rana looked at the pair of the forest witch and dire sheep/wolf belua girl. ”Good morning to the both of you. My name is Brunhyldia Amelia Selini, but most people just refer to me as Brun for short. I serve as a counterpart administrator to Eon alongside Arteus. This fine young lady is Rana Schuellen, she’s a bright magus who will be serving the Tower as a administrative and operations assistant.”

”Good Morning, a pleasure to meet you both. I’m quite new, but I hope we work well together.” Rana replied.

”Well Lupina, feel free to eat and make yourself at home as needed. Bellum’s quite the accomplished cook, so you’re in for a treat! I’ll be around if you want to meet and talk with me about anything. Now then, Renee and Lanus, what were your plans? You're free to peruse around the Tower for any of your needs. If you want to get out and stretch your muscles, we now have a few tasks available as you’ve seen.

Tower Workshop - interactions: @The Irish Tree
Hector would find Johannes sitting at the makeshift lab table in his workshop, chewing on a piece of fatback whilst fiddling with some sort of contraption. Upon hearing the sniper’s voice, he jolted up for a moment and replied with a loud ”Eh?” Apparently he wasn’t expecting visitors this early in the morning. Turning to Hector, the wayward noble would see the man wearing strange goggles that made Johannes appear bulbous-eyed. Taking them off, his appearance was now its normal aged and wrinkled fare.

”Sure, I’d like to think I know a thing or four youngin.” He replied. ”Whatcha needin’ in particular?”

As he spoke, he closely eyed the rifle that Hector always carried with him, having an expression of admiration for the weapon. ”That der rifle’s a mighty fine piece of craftsmanship ya have there, ah…? Think yer name was Hector, right? Wanna have a shot of whiskey, don’t have anything thing more rich tragically.” It appeared he was able to deduce that he was of noble birth based on his weapon alone.

"Of course we shall work well together, Milady," Lanus replied with his flirtatious smile. Before Renee slammed her left foot onto his right, earning a pained yelp from the fey.

The discussion then moved into the requests that Rana was supposed to handle. There were three of them and the two feys were given the option to take them, if they so choose. After all, the requests were far above their pay grade, and were more suited for ordinary adventurers.

Before they could choose any of them, however, Bellum and Belua made their appearance. Lanus bowed at the former's wave while Renee just waved back. Lanus, however, proceeded to whistle, followed by leering at the wolf belua from top to bottom.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss." He walked up to her with a smile. "I believe we have yet to be acquainted? The name's Lanus. Lanus Retily."

"And I'm Renee Terfiel," the other fey followed, walking closer as well. "It's a pleasure to meet you." She lifted the hem of her skirt for a curtsy.

After their short chat, Rana finished sorting out the request documents. And the two proceeded to look them over.

"You're right, Miss Lana." Lanus smiled. "We should take that request." He pointed at the "We definitely should take the escort request! You have no idea how useful it is to have connections with the upper class!"

"Hmph!" Renee huffed, crossing her arms under her chest. "Don't lie, Lanus! You just want to be around a pretty girl! No, we should take the missing kids quest instead! Those poor kids need to be saved as soon as possible!"

"Hmm, I dunno. The prospect of mucking around in the sewers searching for some brats doesn't seem to be a tantalizing one…" Lanus scratched his chin in an obviously exaggerated manner. "Oh, I know! Why don't we settle it with a game of rock paper scissors?"

Renee stared at him blankly. "...Are you serious? We're not five-year-olds, you know."

"Aw, don't be like that, my lovely Renee!" Lanus grinned. "You just don't want to because you always lose to me!"

Renee's eyes stared daggers towards her lover. He was right. For some reason, she just could never win against him in the contest. It was the same whenever they decided to play cards. She always lost and whenever she did, he would always make her strip her clothes piece by piece…

"Urghh, fine! Let's just get this over with! In three… two… one… there!"

She took out scissors.

He responded by paper.

H-huh? I… I won? Her mouth fell open as she stared at her hand in disbelief.

"...Ah, what a shame." Lanus shook his head. "You won. As you want, we shall save those poor kids…"

Renee looked up to Lanus. She knew he was only pretending to be disappointed, thanks to his bad acting.

Is he… is he purposefully losing to me?

A smile formed on her face. He did. He didn't want to abandon those kids either.

Leon Hyksos

@Hammerman @Enkryption@AzureKnight

These markings won't go anytime soon.

Leon takes a good look at himself in the mirror. His skin was all wrapped up in writings and shapes no mortal being could comprehend. The rogue fae can sense it's lingering corruption coursing throughout its strange symbols. Whispering. Watching. Reacting to his every thought.

He felt power ingrained in these symbols and knew his senses were taken over. Perhaps he can use this curse as a blessing? Perhaps he can control it?

The knife-eared elf was playing a dangerous game to gamble with the unknown.

He clads himself in bandages to conceal his new look and went to the meeting room.

As soon as he enters, Leon tries to avoiding eye contact with everyone else and acts to be less suspicious as possible, especially the 'chaos witch' Brun who is known to exorcise malicious beings.

He can hear their thoughts as he skims through them. Some of which are just focus on the mission. and some are just way too inappropriate use of playing cards and wishes he doesn't have these new mind reading powers.

"Ehem.." Leon clear his throat, making his presence felt.

"I'll accompany Mrs. Renee and Mr. Lanus in finding those missing children. Us feys got to stick together right?" Leon said while pointing at the document.

"Tell me when we're leaving, I'll go get prepared."The rogue fae sternly said and left in a hurry. hopefully, his actions doesn't strike him as acting weirder than usual self to those people in the room.

This mission was the perfect test to prove how far Leon can see through the future with his new gift by finding out the fate of those missing kids and unravelling this case.

The two feys didn't sense Leon's presence until he coughed, being busy talking with Lana and all.

"Oh, you're joining us, Sir Leon?" Renee spoke. "Your help would certainly be appreciated."

"I doubt we would need your help though." Lanus chimed in with a smug smile on his face. "After all, it's just a simple finding lost kids mission." Secretly, Lanus preferred there wouldn't be another guy tagging along with them. Now, he wasn't the jealous type, not in the slightest, but that didn't mean he wouldn't prefer being alone with his cute girlfriend. "But, I suppose the more the merrier."

Once Leon left, the couple also declared that they would need to prepare. Half an hour later, the two were ready, and Leon would've gotten the message, with Lanus ordering a servant to send a message that they would be waiting for him at the lobby of the Tower.

Shavis followed Einer as they both awkwardly shuffled out of Nadia's wrecked office, bidding the woman farewell and good luck with arranging it back to how it was originally. What a disaster of a situation and she was no closer to understanding what Nadia was going on about when it came to the combination of Galdr and Alchemy. As the door closed behind them, Shavis let out a breath and looked down at Einer, and offered him a half-hearted grin.

"Crazy day, huh?" She commented with a shake of her head. At least requesting to get her clothes cleaned up wouldn't take a long time; though, it was much more convenient when she had Patia around. Then again, if she hadn't tried to become a Reaver, she probably wouldn't be in a situation where she had to take care of Scarlett for an elongated amount of time. "You know what we need, Einer? We need a breath of fresh air! I'm gonna head over to the job boards and see what's up. You coming?"

Upon receiving the affirmation, Shavis began her trek toward the main hall with Shadar shrinking in size and draping himself across her shoulders. When they arrived at the main hall, it was to catch the tail end of Renee and Lanus's conversation about which mission they'd have to pick which ended up in a rock-paper-scissors competition to see whose mission they'd go on. Renee ended up on top and they would undertake the missing children's mission. Leon apparently would go with them.

"Well, if you're not taking the escort mission..." Shavis said as she walked up to the requests, giving a greeting to the administrators and what seemed to be another new recruit? She turned her attention back to the task at hand. A rather pricey reward, low rating and a big chance to see more sights? "Yeah, definitely signing up for this one. Don't know much about nobility, especially in The Republic, but the rule of thumb is just to act polite and respectful and you should be fine, right?" Though it seemed like she was addressing no one in particular, she did turn back to her earlier companion. "You in, Einer? We can discuss Miss Nadia's crazy synergy research if nothing happens."

"You in, Einer? We can discuss Miss Nadia's crazy synergy research if nothing happens."
Shavis Namiste

"Hmm, I suppose I'll take you up on that offer, Miss Namiste."

Einer and Shavis exited Nadia's office after the... debacle with Scarlett back there. Shavis led the bard back to the main hall after suggesting they take a fresh breath of air after witnessing such a scene. Einer agreed, and followed the Belua without question.

The main hall was filled with faces familiar and unfamiliar. Einer had no time to observe all of them in finer detail, as he was with Shavis looking over the current requests. The Belua eventually settled for an escort quest: a Republic noble on a business trip needing some guards due to an increase of reported monster attacks. An easy mission and a hefty reward... on paper. Einer feared there might be more than meets the eye like in the previous quest her undertook.

Still, he had the mighty Shavis Namiste with him. She looked like she can handle a monster or two or maybe even a dozen. "Indeed, that is a good approach to the general nobility, Miss Namiste, but worry not. If Lady Molnar decides to be rude towards you, know that you also have a noble at your side."

I don't know what's more awkward. The fact that I'm harboring and borrowing a malicious entity's power residing in my very skin. Or the feel of third-wheeling a lovestruck couple in this mission. Either way, this is going to be a hellish experience that's for sure! Leon mentally sighed, the thought of these complications already exhausts the rogue's urge to go on this trip.

The rogue fae received Lanus's invitation and went to the lobby. He carries the cursed grimoire behind his cloak and his sharp knives intact, preparing for the worst in this retrieval operation.

Before he approach, Leon heard a soft eerie whisper in his head. He paused in the moment.

He can suddenly see invisible lines coursing towards the couple as Leon sighted them from a far. Its thread is sturdy and unbreakable that carries chain of events both tragic and joyous to Reinee and Lanus. The bond between the two are inseparable.

Ofcourse, these are just probabilities that the cursed grimoire is projecting to him in his head.

Like, who can really predict the absolute future?

~

"Ready?.." Leon said, snapping out of his stupor and greeted the two.

"I've done some little digging and it turns out Rana's notes were wayyy too outdated. The waterworks around these parts continues to expand as the city continues to develop." Leon scratches his head.

"It makes you wonder what mrs. Rana's real age is? she seems more mature for her youthful looks."

"In any case, Finding the missing children might not be easy as we think." The rogue ponders.

"Oh, and don't worry about me tagging along, i'll leave you to your own and trail you from the shadows, you won't even notice i'm even there!" Leon assured the two, Especially Lanus, who seems unenthusiastic to him being there.

The duo arrived at the lobby not long after Leon. After saying their greetings, Leon brought up the fact that the map Lana had was most likely outdated, owing to the growth of the city.

"Well, that's not good…" Lanus scratched his temple. "Without a complete map, the chance of us getting lost will increase tenfold."

"We can mitigate it by leaving down markers on the path we have taken." Renee folded her arms under her chest. "But still, this may mean we'll have to spend more than a day down there."

"Thankfully, we've brought with us a tent." Lanus smiled. "Along with some supplies. We can share the supplies but not the tent. After all, it won't do for you to intrude upon our lovemaking after all." He smirked, earning an embarrassed glare from Renee.

"Now now it's extremely rude to ask for a woman's real age, you know." Lanus replied to his question. "In my eyes, all beauties in the world are eternally seventeen years old. And yes, that includes you too, my dear." He smiled towards Renee.

"Hmph, I prefer if you see me as a more mature woman." Renee huffed. "I'm not the same girl that you rescued all those years ago."

"I know you're not. After all, these days, you want to make love with me almost every night. Unlike your old self, who was all shy about what she secretly wanted." He grinned.

"Idiot!" Renee blushed. "There's no need to say that in front of him!" She pointed at Leon.

When Leon declared that he would just stalk them away from their sight, Lanus laughed. "No need to do that, friend." He patted him on the shoulder. "You're now our partner so we should work together."

Seeing the man leave Damian huffed to himself, smiling with a shake of his head. Not feeling that hungry himself he made his way out of the mess hall, opting to simply venture about for the next while, see what some of the other places here was like...

Leon, along with the Fae couple of Lanus and Renee, had gathered in the main lobby as they prepped for their accepted quest. Before they set out, they would see Roze walking up to them with a quite peculiar young Belua girl. She appeared to slide across the floor as she walked, wearing a pale yellow robe that was obviously worn with a few holes here and there. Her hood hid some of her facial features, but they could see her crimson eyes and a row of sharp teeth with her adorned smile. The group could also see a few tentacles sticking out from her robe.

”Good Morning Renee, and Lanus.” Roze said, greeting the couple. ”To you as well, Leon was it?” She gave a friendly wave to the jagged-eared Fae, noticing his new bandaged appearance.

”I saw on the job board that a pair of kids got lost in the underground sewer system. I thought I’d help out since I’m a little familiar with the area, though I’m aware they’ve expanded upon the system as the Republic grows in size.” She then turned to the tentacled girl. ”Then there’s the matter of her…”

”I heard a strange sound coming from outside. When I went to see what it was, that’s when I saw her blowing a trumpet as if her life depended on it…” She said, an annoyed expression adorned on her face. ”She tells me that Arteus had invited her, so I presume she’s another new member of the team that he recruited in secret. I sort of wish he’d stop doing that…” Roze held a hand to her face

”After that I invited her in, and told her that I wouldn’t be able to give her a tour because I was about to go on a quest. Despite that…she wouldn’t stop following me around. So, I guess she’s coming with us?”

After the tentacled girl introduced herself, the group would set off for their current objective. Since this quest was local, it only took the group roughly half an hour to reach the entrance to the waterway. The location matched the information that was given on the request.

”Here we are.” Roze said. ”Man, this place sure brings back memories, my folks used to yell at me all the time when I went out and played here. It’s also gotten a lot bigger since I was last here!” She looked around, taking in and inspecting their surroundings. ”I wonder if it’d be better if we split up into teams and searched that way?” Walking further into the system’s interior, the group would see various tunnels and pathways that lead to every which way. Roze peered down on of the pathways for a moment, as if eyeing something of interest. ”There.” Walking with a hasty step, she picked up what appeared to be a torn jacket. Aside from the damage, it didn’t look that old. ”This must belong to one of the kids!”

The most concerning thing was that the tears and holes in the jacket looked to be from some sort of animal attack. ”This doesn’t bode well…” As she inspected the jacket, strange sounds could be heard from all around them. Roze looked up, scanning the environment for anything. It sounded like a tipping sound, like something clanking against metal. Suddenly, with a high-pitched gurgling squeal, a large arachnoid creature jumped out from one of the vents, hurling itself at Roze. Roze promptly dodge, retaliating by slicing it in half with a blade of wind she fired from her hand. ”Shit!” She spat. ”This species shouldn’t be here!” They were white widows, a dangerous species of giant spider that are known man-eaters. They usually make their habitat within deep forests and large caverns lacking ambient light, so what were they doing here? Needless to say, their poisonous fangs and horrid webbing made them ferocious predators. They also bred quickly, making getting them away from settlements top-priority.

”Everyone, watch out!” As Roze warned the party, more of the creature’s kin came crawling toward the party from the other crevices around them. About a baker’s dozen of them, and two barred their fangs and charged at Leon, another two came for Haaselle. A few stayed on the walls and began shooting a sticky web at Lanus and Renee, they had enough time to dodge, but that didn’t stop them from firing a barrage of their silk at the couple.

”Please, don’t let them bite you!” She cautioned, dealing with a group of the arachnids that came charging at her.

@Polaris North @PaulHaynek

”Now that ya mention it, you are originally from Flugell aren’t ya?” The two Reavers would turn to see Ruecian walking up to them. ”Good thing, like what Shavis said, I’m not too keen on noble etiquette or whatever. Don’t think I’ll ever care to be either.”

Ruecian gave the request on the job board another look over. ”So, this Imre Dorothea Molnar is requesting some bodyguards on a business trip huh?” Rue made a sigh, scratching his head as he always does. ”We’re just glorified baby-sitters then? Lame. The only reason I’m taking this mission is because I lost a game of rock-paper-scissors to Roze. The girl’s really requesting someone who participated on the malfested plains mission, and the other three are now spoken for.” Crossing his arms, he made a huff.

”But, nevermind that. As your combat instructor, I should be monitoring your battle progress anyway. You two look sharp! Don’t slack off just ‘cause this mission is supposed to be easy!” He said with a stern tone.

With that, the trio left for their mission, which took them just outside the town’s borders. There, they would see an elaborate carriage adorned with crests, no doubt the symbol of whose house it belonged to. The lack of horses and its make suggested that the vehicle was magically-powered. Two figures stood in front of the carriage, one was likely the requester of the job - Imre Dorothea Molnar. She greeted the Reavers with a wave, seemingly excited at their presence. The other figure was an elderly gentleman, wearing a traditional tuxedo, likely a house servant who will act as the group’s chauffeur.

”Greetings! Thank you all for taking my request! She said. She looked at Ruecian first. ”Oh! You must be Ruecian Valeniquen! They say you performed marvelously as that ghastly monster was defeated! But for someone of your standing, I’d wager it was a walk in the park!”

Rue responded with a shrug. ”I helped, but it wasn’t just me who was there. I presume you’re Imre Molnar, the one who requested us?”

”Oh my! Where are my manners? That would be correct, my name is Imre Dorothea Molner, heiress to the Molnar Viscounty within the Republic. This man’s name is Nathaniel, a long-time servant to my house and will be serving as our driver for today.” Both bowed to the trio of magus. ”The pleasure is all mine” Said Nathan, the man spoke with an expected defined accent, though his voice was rather raspy given his age.

Imre then turned to Shavis and Einer, eyeing them with a bit of perplexity. ”Referring to what you said earlier, I believe the Triad Witch, Rozemyne Levina, was with you during that mission. I…thought that she would be joining you. Um…not to be rude, but, who are you two exactly?” She looked at Einer in particular, who didn’t impress her that much. She didn’t let his height bother her, as Ruecian wasn’t exactly the tallest guy around either, but even so his appearance suggested that he was just as fragile if not more that she was. But, she also had to remember that he too, must be a magus.

”You appear to be a magus as well, one that perhaps uses magical music notes? She said to Einer, eyeing the lyre he was holding. ”And I see that you, miss, appear to be a powerful Belua Magus much like Sir Ruecian. She was now looking at Shavis, who with her well-tone frame put on much more of a good first impression to the heiress.

”Tell me, what are your names? Please forgive me if I sounded rude earlier.”

@Frozen0Titan

Damian walked the halls of Eon, patiently awaiting the return of Arteus where then he’d make his official decision of whether he would join the Tower as a new recruit. As he made his trek, he would notice the offices of the various staff members: Elaine, Nadia, and Johannes to name a few.

Eventually, he would inadvertently bump into a figure while still roaming the halls. Or rather, the figure bumped into him, several books fell to the ground at both their feet. The figure was revealed to be Naomi Schueller, the Tower’s top researcher in regards to magical beast theory. With a surprised squawk, she stumbled back a bit as her tomes fell to the floor. ”Oww…” She said in a low voice. She looked up at Damian, but didn’t seem to want to look the towering man in the eyes. ”Sorry.” She said in another low voice.

Damian may notice that the books that feel on the ground were in regards to some interesting subjects, to say the least. Reptilian gestation periods, pheromone therapy, and ecosystem replication for egg incubation. Naomi sheepishly began to pick up all of her tomes and documents, mumbling to herself as she did.

"Ah, good morning, Miss Roze." Lanus bowed with a smile. "Don't tell me you'll be joining us for our mission? That would be a delight indeed!"

His eyes then shifted towards the young Belua girl. Oh, what's this? Are those tentacles I see her walking on? Or rather, sliding on?

"Well now, you're an unfamiliar face." He smiled. "A newcomer, I presume? Welcome. My name is Lanus Retily. It's a pleasure to meet you, little miss." He bowed towards her as well.

"Good morning, Miss Roze." Renee replied. "I see." She glanced at the girl. "So she will be joining us as well." She walked up to her and offered her hand. "Let's work together nicely, alright?

The waterways were, as Renee expected, not exactly a pleasant place to be. It was less dirty than the fae predicted but the air was still damp, with a slightly unpleasant odor making its way into her nostrils. Still, it was nothing she couldn't handle, especially when the lives of kids were at stake.

"You liked to play here?" Renee glared with disbelief towards Roze. "Didn't you have anywhere else better to play in?" As a child, she, like any other fae child, played mostly in the forest that they were raised in. Not in a cramped, damp place like this!

"Splitting up? Is that really a good idea? It's easier for us to get lost if we each go our own way," Renee argued. Not because she was afraid of exploring this place on her own! Definitely not!!

When Roze notified the group about the torn jacket, Renee rushed forward. She stood as close as she could to Roze, examining the jacket as well. Those holes… they don't look natural! It can only mean—

Her heart sank.

Her sharp fae ears—they were picking up a grotesque sound she was all too familiar with.

White Widows! Here, of all places?

"Careful, everyone! There are—"

SCREECH

She was too late! One of them jumped out from the vents, hurling itself towards Roze, who thankfully managed to defend herself in time.

”Shit!” She spat. ”This species shouldn’t be here!”

"You're right!" Renee shouted, taking her bow from her back. "I saw this creature all the time back when I was still in the forest! What's it doing here?!"

Of course, Renee knew very well that when there's one, there will always be a dozen more. More and more spiders crawled out from each and every hole around them . She swiftly took out an arrow from her quiver, aiming at one of the spiders crawling on the walls.

"Transform! Firebird!"

The arrow flew, transforming into a phoenix before piercing the creature, burning it into a crisp. However, it wasn't the only spider there. There were still two more remaining and they retaliated to the death of their comrade by spitting out sticky webs towards her.

"Get behind me!"

Lanus stepped in, using Glindrung to cut through the webs before they could land on his lover.

"I'll keep you safe. Snipe all those spiders off the walls!"

"Got it!"
