Greetings to all of you in the RPGuild, it's a pleasure to be here and meet you all. It's also a bit surprising to see that this site is still active after so many years of service. Congratulations to the site owners and staff for keeping this place alive for almost 2 whole decades now. Pretty sure that's a world record for RPG forums.
Allow me to introduce myself. You can call me LivingFossil, for that is what I am to most text-based/turn-based/forum-based roleplayers nowadays. I hail from a time period since before this site even existed, and in fact, I find it slightly humorous and ironic, as some of my old usernames are referenced in some of the archives on this message board which is what led me to find this site again and decide to join it in the first place.
I first started on-line roleplaying in chat rooms around 1998, back when Yahoo! Chat and Multicity Chat, Eden's Era and Geocities, Comicity and ProBoards forums were very popular, just to give you an idea of how far I actually go back. I can vaguely still remember places like Metawerx and Anime Capsule, Sailor Moon Chat, Anime Forums, Dragon Ball, Gundam Wing and all those places were still a thing. Indeed, I am a living fossil.
I remember when this place first got started. Although it has changed slightly, I am astonished by just how little it has changed over the last 20 years. Kudos to whoever is responsible for that remarkable accomplishment. It's good to see that after all this time, people are still taking an interest in our prehistoric literary art forms. I feel old as hell LMAO but it's good to see that the new generation hasn't completely forgotten its roots or where they came from, and that they are still running around with our old tattered battle-worn banner of RPG that has outlived even some of our greatest pioneers.
Thank you all for making me proud, and for allowing me to be here. I'm sure some of you probably have many questions for me. Just know that I am 40 years old now and that my memory isn't what it used to be. It's been a very long time, and a very long journey. In honesty, I'm just grateful to be alive and to be here now to share in the experience with all of you. Thank you for remembering all of the artists and writers and collaborators who grew up with us throughout the years. There have been many battles, many relationships, many love stories, poems, songs, sad stories and epic adventures. But not all of us are dead yet. Some of us are still kicking, and I'm proud to sit here with you now and continue the good fight.
Bless you all and have a wonderful day.
Sincerely,
LivingFossil ❤️
