He hums as he listens to her, dropping the dishes off in the kitchen sink, "...we will need a story if I don't have any clothes, food, or a job..." she silently thinks for a while, before looking back over to her, "...if you're my daughter...hm... I need to at least appear to be responcible for you. Any ideas?"

“I can handle the second part. Story is easy. Immigrants. From where is a question you can handle because geography is not my strong suit,” it really wasn’t. She was old but had a rather bad memory for the minor things.

He is silent for some time, immigrants? It is a simple story. He quietly racks his brain for what might be the best one to go with. There is a selection, but it didnt take long, "...I'd say we came from Selza. Its small, nearby, and speaks the same language. Maybe we survived a fire or something...and this country has more work..." he murmurs, then frowns slightly, "...though it's unfortunate timing for immigrants. It'll be tough."

“I… we’ll manage…” She decided not to tell him about what she was fully capable of. He’ll find out if things so South, and only in an emergency, she decided, letting out a quiet sigh. After a moment of quiet she spoke again, more quietly. “Can it not be a fire?”

Her request brings him to a jolting halt, his observation of her strengthening in focus for a moment...before he nods, "I can work with something else, if it bothers you"

Saying nothing else on the matter,as a polite way to let her have her secrets, he steps away from the sink again, attempting to smack more dirt out of his clothes, before giving up with a "Bah."

"Well, are you ready?"

"I don't think I get to say no to that, so yes," she dusted herself off and her clothes appeared to become perfectly clean except for a few dirty spots. For a split second the orange glow at the man's feet flickered. "Damnit, I need to stop using magic already-" she muttered, huffing before walking out onto the porch. She figured he'd follow.

He nods and heads towards the door, closing it behind him.

He is quiet as he nods to her and starts heading back to the road, but pauses, "ah...perhaps you should lead. At least to whatever way you think we should take..."

"I probably should, yeah. We definitely can't head back to the capital, too risky." She paused, thinking for a long moment before she turned and beckoned for him to follow her in a different direction than he had been heading.

After a couple hours of walking in peace, the two drew into sight of the city. Kaiyora was clearly tired, though she was doing her best to hide it from the man. The city border-wall loomed above the two, though the city's gate itself was wide open. Humans came and went, none paying any mind to the slightly odd pair.

He hums a bit after they walk in, taking a look around at what was immediately available at the entrance of the city - shops, stalls, and places to sit. Seeing that no one seemed to pay attention to them, he smiled slightly to himself and gestred towards a couple of benches before moving to sit down himself. Around them, people were milling about with plans for the day and everyday gossip.

AFter a moment of quiet rest, he would look over at her, "..do you want a bite to eat while we are here? We will be here a while, it'll be a lot of walking around, gathering supplies, and asking for work....spreading our story"

She sat next to him, leaning back on the bench with her legs pulled up next to her. "I'm hungry," she whined, deciding to play the part of a rather difficult daughter. If she was going to play a part that hurt her pride, she would make it worth her while. That and she was hungry and tired. She wanted a nap more than food but food would give her enough energy to function.

Ray nods and sighs at her antics. He decidedly made up his mind to not look around at whatever parents might be looking at him in judgement or pity. "Hey now...I asked if you wanted something. Don't make a fuss. If you tell me what you want, I'll see if I can get some." His eyes were already scanning the storefronts and stalls, again, making sure to ignore the people around the. Do not make eye contact, hhe continuously reminds himself.

And what does he want? Its only been a couple hours walk, but a small pick-me-up before getting to work might be nice.

She thought for a moment, scanning the options she had. A small fruit stand caught her eye and she pointed to it. "Fruit," she declared, studying him as she pointed. She figured fruit wouldn't be too expensive, and with the right choice it would give her enough energy to last for a good three hours- her body handled sugar differently than a human's did so giving her sugar was basically giving her caffeine, though for her caffeine did way worse; worse to put up with, that is. She slipped a few extra silver coins she had probably managed to steal or conjure- she'd stolen some from a human in passing- into his pocket. Only three, but probably enough for something small. The girl took into note how he avoided eye contact with anybody and everybody. He really should learn what's he's gotten himself into first, she decided not to think about the fact that she would probably get scolded for doing theft.

"Fruit" he repeats quietly, following her gaze to the stand she seems to have in mind. Nodding to himself, he stands, "I can do that, stay here. right now." he says, perhaps a bit more firm than she would need in private but definitely concerned to a degree. Luckily, fruit is not very expensive yet, two coppers for each apple is sufficient. And so he returns to her, holding out a fruit for her to take.

She waited until he held the fruit out to snatch it. She had obediently stayed put, studying the people of the city and generally trying to learn things. She bit into the fruit, seeming perfectly content and calm. An apple wouldn't have been her first choice but she'd take what was given to her. Better not to drive him too crazy on day one. She paused after swallowing. "Dad I'm tired," she whined. She wasn't that tired. But getting lodging for the night, if they didn't want to have to make the long trek back to the house, would be good. It was only just drawing on afternoon but still. She liked to think ahead.

He hums, pausing after a bite to look at what money he had left and consider his options. As he looks it over, he frowns some in confusion, obviously noticing the extra coinage. But he hasn't yet seemed to have figured out where it came from. It should be enough for a night somewhere. He nods a little, "we have enough.."

Though itd be a tight squeeze, he thinks, following some city maps to find an inn. one silver for them both. The inn keeper is paid without a word. Once they were inside their room, he shakes his head, "having fun?"

She skipped after him, basically claiming the pillows on the bed for herself the moment that her door shut. She stretched, abandoning the magic she had been using on herself for the time being. “You signed up for this. It’s not my fault if you can’t handle a kid,” she gave him a very happy smile, all three of her now visible tails wagging rapidly. The fruit’s sugar was already kicking in. Speaking of the fruit, she had managed to finish the apple in the few minutes she’d had it.

Handle someone who is just pretending? Speak against someone that he owes his life to?

He sighs again and lets the subject go, "So, what do you plan now?"

She studied him, tails wagging. "Can't handle me? Oh I'm fully aware of how annoying I can get!" She giggled. "The plan is find you a job and both of us not dying. I could just abandon you here, let you figure your own life out since I kind of saved it, but that's mean. And I like you! You're funny!" She was either trying to be annoying, or drugged. It was the latter. Maybe don't give her sugar next time? Oh well! He'd already given her enough sugar unintentionally to let her drive him crazy.

Already clearly mentally exhausted, or rather, he had never fully recovered in the first place...Ray hardly reacted to her antics at this point, simply nodding, "You can certainly leave me, I would not stop you" The words may seem cold but they seem to come from a place more out of...depression? respect? His voice is certainly more bland and accepting than insulting or angry. Even the man himself would find it hard to put his current mentality into words.

Maybe in some respects, it would be easier to be alone...but then he doubted he would have much motivation to do anything. He hadn't really deserved to leave that muddy ditch anyways, and would have at most toiled as a farmer, since it was a great way to start over.

"You know what, fine!" she huffed, somehow sounding mad at him despite the fact that she was still wagging. "I'm gonna go do your job and find you somewhere to work. You stay here and do whatever the hell you want!" She got up, shook herself to put the magic back, and glared at him. "And handle your own looks. Not my job anymore," she walked to the door, pausing to tear down the illusion spell she'd given him, and slipped out of the room. If he wanted her to pick a lane, she would pick the turn lane.
