I am fine with restarting. It means I can go back and edit my initial post some more, and repost that 18 page monster. We can even use that to intimidate the timid away if you want LJ. :D

Hiya everybody!

Sorry for my lengthy absence but looking after my new son has taken it out of me of late. My son was born on the 26th February at 01:55 by emergency c-section and has been doing well over the last month. I have to be honest and say that I have never known tiredness like this, it is exhausting and awesome all at the same time. As I am now getting used to everything I am hoping that I will start to be able to post again, I can type stuff up in the early hours of the morning once he has woken me up.

On an RP front I have not been able to find any of my character stuff for Mal so if someone does have a copy of it, even in its first inception, that would be fantastically helpful. If not I remember most of his character traits and flaws so would be able to re-write him if it is required.

Good to be back.

I think that format would be capital LJ, seems the best way to organize a restart.

Congrats again Orion, I've made it to 29 without a child yet and my wife is of the same opinion but I am excited that you are finding that sort of worn out new child joy. Good for you and the Mrs.

Congratulations again, Orion. ^_^ Good to have you back, kinda - certainly looking forward to having you around! :D

I think restarting would be the best option as well, if we didn't go the mentor/mentee route... Plus, having the old cast as side characters who left for El before ours would be interesting... Hahaha, Avery is so right XD it's become such a beast that it has its own canon now.

This is a bit premature (I was saving it for the new OOC) but here's the history that Avery created for the people of Omestris. It's a long read but it's pretty amazing I think.

Oh god, Avery... you're writing novels for this RP. XD I think we deserve an anime at this point - seriously. Hm... Not a bad idea... if only I knew an animator... XD It would rival, or perhaps surpass, something like Attack on Titan! XD Especially with the effort put into it...

Thanks, I enjoy creating stuff like this, maybe one day it will all coalesce into an actual novel or series, who knows.

XD I think it'd be funny if somebody saw it and was like "I'm gonna make an anime for you guys" and we'd be like "CRAP! THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO FEEL REEEAAAALLLL" XD

As much as it would be cool to see LJ's idea get launched into something like that I wouldn't know if I could watch/read it in that format. I am not an anime/manga fan, nothing against it... it is just that something in my brain hurts when I see it. I am drawn more to that vibe LJ (I think) is going for, that sort of gritty, decaying steampunk, dystopian, grist mill grinding world and as dark as animation can get I think it loses something in the animated nature of it.

I have always drawn my inspiration for the Inquisitors from the Grammaton Clerics in the movie Equilibrium or the sort of setting from the movie Dark City or almost a steampunk Blade Runner if ya know what I mean.

Yeah, I do, I think this would be soooo cool in a live-action film, especially with today's effects - or as a video game. XD I love anime, but I wouldn't wanna see Embers as an anime nearly as much as I'd like to see it for real. Hm... I wonder who would get cast for our characters... :o

I am definitely not going with the Grammaton cleric (loved the movie) because of how emotionless they are supposed to be. Need some more classic anger and angst, so I am more going with the Warhammer 40k idea of danger here.

Warhammer 40K is an awesome reference for this as well, especially with the religion infused world of the Imperium of man. I have no shame in my influences, read the Omestri history and culture and then read about the Eldar and Dark Eldar schism and you can see where a lot of that came from.

I've never gotten into Warhammer. Always been interested but there are just so many books that I've always been a bit intimidated by it all. As far as inspiration for the RP goes, I was actually inspired most by stories that a friend from college told me about traveling through South America on a missionary trip. I've also taken influence and inspiration from a lot of other stuff:

The novel City of Thieves by David Benioff (about Russian conscripts going on an odyssey through besieged Leningrad during WWII)
Star Wars (the Jedi)
The videogame Lost Planet (takes place in an ice world where heat is the most important resource)
The anime Fullmetal Alchemist (the magic system mostly),
A lot of HP Lovecraft and other cosmic/eldritch horror stuff (for the Broken Pantheon)
Band of Brothers/The Pacific (for the military brotherhood side of things)

... And way too many other works to list. And as far as the dark steampunkiness of it all, I've never actually read any steampunk that's as brutal as the world we have here. Most of the steampunk I've come across has been a bit whimsical in nature, and nothing much like the Last Embers world. So yeah, I didn't consciously use any reference from that particular genre, I kind of just envisioned the world as this necessarily dark and mechanical place, so that's how it got there. :p

Those are stories with great bedrock themes that transition across most genres, specifically the first two and last two. If anyone is ever interested these are some steampunk books I have on my shelf that tend to be a bit darker, though you are right LJ, the genre as a whole has a lighter more imaginative flair but there is some twisted and devilishly dark/creepy stuff out there.

Homunculus by James P. Blaylock
Heart of Veridon by Tim Akers
The Giving Mouth by Ian R. MacLeod
The God-Clown is Near by Jay Lake
The Steam Man of the Prairie and the Dark Rider Get Down: A Dime Novel by Joe R. Lansdale

It is interesting how we have all been presented the same body of info and background and how we all see it through differing lenses.

I would recommend any Warhammer 40k Ciaphas Cain books as your intro into the whole universe LJ. The main character is unique, funny, and really only works in that universe as written. It looks like I will need to read some more novels.

Hi guys. So I've been really busy lately. Still working on the new OOC (complete with new art!) but work and personal stuff has gotten in the way. I'll hopefully have it done in the next few days.
