@Digizel Actions required!

  • An Interact action to collect the ichor
  • Another Interact action to present the ichor to one beetle (and one only)

Oh, less important extra question: is the desk the kind that's completely hollow underneath, allowing you to pass under it? I presume it's more like what I usually expect to see in a school office setting and it's got a solid side to it facing the door. Do you know what I mean? Not actually important and entirely flavor since Saur would prefer to use his size to go under the desk rather than vault or climb over it during his movement. xD

Teacher Ot's desk is made of solid wood, but let's say the middle of the desk is open. I'm all for flavor.

Okay, that is Saur's turn complete, which means it's @wanderingwolf's time with the beetles!

Time to see if Saur gets swarmed by beetles~ xD

Oh dang, for some reason, I thought Avert Gaze was a reaction not an action. Not that it would matter, he would've failed regardless. Oh well, figured this was gonna happen anyway; Fortitude is his weakest save. But it's what Saur would do~ Drawing fire and taking the hits for his allies while trusting them to get the job done~ xD

EDIT: Whoops realized I didn't actually post this, so Fortitude is a 12 so Saur is officially BEDAZZLED, not having enough time to shield his eyes.

Also dang, creatures in Pathfinder have a much larger attack bonus than I'm used to in 5e, good to know xD Probably because of the MAP I suppose? Still, was not expecting to get hit by 25's. That was just ONE away from critting him xD

EDIT 2: Oh actually @wanderingwolf I was curious. Is it fine to make a reaction post to what happened as long as it doesn't actually effect the action economy/combat situation or interrupt the flow or anything? Just, like...reacting to the hits, guarding against the attacks that missed, etc.

@Digizel LOL at "BEDAZZLED" :D I'm just picturing Saur covered in fake plastic diamonds. Just for reference: 2e.aonprd.com/Conditions.aspx?ID=65

Yes, P2e is huge on the attack bonuses for creatures. In P2e, AC for a tank is not about "not getting hit." It's about "not getting crit." Those hits would definitely have crit some of your other party members. You should be able to rely on your party for healing mid-fight, even if you're taking all the hits.

And yes, it's totally fine for you to post Saur's reaction to these events, even if it's not really a "Reaction" action.

Yeah, I'm getting more and more glad that I am in this now, learning so much more about PF2e in an environment where I can take my time to think, understand the rules and put it into practice at more of my own pace than I could at an actual table~ I'm kinda liking this combat system. I can already see how it emphasizes more on teamwork than 5e really does. xD And now I'm pretty curious how it goes at higher levels compared to 5e....

And now I'm suddenly glad I made sure Saur could repair his own shield with the tools he's got because I'm pretty confident it's gonna get broken a lot~

@Digizel I'm glad you're liking the combat system! It takes some getting used to coming from 5e. It's got a lot of strategy and conditions, as well as just different modus operandi in some cases. It really emphasizes making use of things like the Cover system, as well as being Concealed or other vanishing. Also, there are some cool ways to save your action for a trigger, or delay entirely to wait for something to move to you, then act. :D

Hm, I should maybe take a closer look at that conditions list I saw before on the Archives. And probably give the Actions list a more thorough readthrough for the non-Activity options. It'll be interesting when Saur actually does want to use his weapons against enemies so I can consider his many combat options and tricks. xD

It's particularly interesting that movement takes one of your three actions. Honestly, I feel like the biggest thing that'll throw me off is not being able to split a Stride around your other actions without a feat that tells you you can. Unlike in 5e, I can't step into somebody's face, down them, and then step into somebody else's face and attack them too without certain feats. Definitely changes a pretty fundamental part of the combat I'm used to~

Here's a quick question about Cover now that you mentioned cover, though: Let's say Saur is in combat using his bow against a distant target. He hides behind a pillar in order to Take Cover at the end of his turn. Then, a round goes by and it's his turn again. Does he have to use an action to Stride/Step out from behind the pillar, use his second action to take his shot and then his third to move back into cover again? Or are you allowed to just peek out from behind cover to take the shot without having to use the action to step out? Or is this more of a DM ruling kind of thing?

What if he were just crouched behind an overturned bench or something, where instead of having to actually peer AROUND the object, he would just be standing taller to look over it? It's a different scenario, but rules-wise, does it change anything?

These are the questions plaguing my mind as I try to think about how Saur may be fighting in PF2e. xD

@rush99999 Quick question:

Jenk has 3 actions:
1. Move to the desk
2. Interact to pick up the ichor
3. Interact to present it to Flash1

But the way you've written the post sounds like you want him to also move back to the Northern most corner square which would be a fourth action. We can have Jenk stand beside Flash2 and still interact adjacently to Flash 1, but if he wants to move to the square above, he won't have enough actions to present the ichor to Flash1.

@wanderingwolf

Can other actions not be taken mid-stride then?

@rush99999 No, in P2e, we don't split strides except in very special cirmumstances.

I can alter the post I just made in case Jenk does not want to stay where he is at the moment. Just let me know :D

Here's what the GM core has to say about splitting movement: 2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=2560&Redi…

Yeah, as I was researching the rules, I found that same thing. It's also not really something that can be homebrewed away very easily because there are feats that allow you to attack while striding, like Fighters and Barbarians get Sudden Charge or Martial Artists get Path of Iron. Usually these are feats that use 2-3 actions, so they would suddenly become MUCH less useful if moving and attacking at the same time were just something anybody could do.

Honestly, Jenk's movement there is still pretty good. Barring some kind of unforeseen new enemy showing up, he shouldn't be in any danger; if nothing else, Saur will have his turn before 2 gets its turn, so even if nobody can reach it to pacify it, Saur will be able to. So as long as 4 is dealt with before the end of the round, we should be good~
