DAY 1: MORNING, 9:00 AM





The mists gather around your feet as you meander along the old path leading to the Castle. The cool mountain morning air nips at your exposed face. It has been a good four hours treck from Tours-en-Savoy, the local town, a bustling hub of trade and miscreants. Coin is flowing in these parts, prices are high, and banditry abounds. Everyone is looking to make it big, one way or another.

Adventurers as you are, you are not too different. The haunted Castle was known throughout the region, a place of horror but also treasure. You had heard enough stories of celebrating parties buying rounds in the local tavern, enough to know that it was possible, even when their number was less in the evening then the morning. Still, the risks seemed worth it. And some of you had even nobler reasons for approaching this place.

As it was you stood at a crossroads:
before you, the cobbled path ended at an old masonwork bridge. The trench it covered had no water, but a thick layer of stodgy mud. Beyond, a ruined gatehouse flagged a lonely entryway. Where once there may have been a gate, now lay only rubble. You see the arrow slits in the two towers flanking this entrance. The north one in particular looked so ruined it could be entered; pillars of pasty morning sunlight filtering down through a half-broken roof. The road also meandered southwards, turning a corner beyond your sight. The road was downhill, but seemed slightly better travelled.

One could always explore Northwards as well - you spy
two windows that could welcome an intrepid climber, but one would need adequate tools.

Your party have arrived at the castle nice and early. We'll say you have probably adventured with each other from level 0 to level 1 and know each other well.

You can see thick castle walls encasing the manor beyond; though they look old and not very well looked after. In the middle distance you see a towering donjon somewhere deeper in the grounds, with balconies and an upper bridge. Both the North side of the castle and south side of the castle sport multiple stories, and you reckon their may be windows you could enter through if you wished. You would know the castle is protected by a huge lake on the north and far east sides.

More information and actions are always available to be taken, just like in dnd. Welcome to the game, my friends.

Neil wasn't a huge fan of the cold. But he was a huge fan of the gold.

The trek up had not been too bad, by his estimation. He was glad he had chosen the doughty dwarf to accompany him. Dwarves were pretty consistently hardy and unflappable when it came to toil. Ironically, Neil felt they complained a lot when there was nothing to complain about, but remained silent during harsh tasks where others would do naught but complain. Which meant right now, Gorald Splitskinner was right at home.

Neil glanced northwards, spying the two windows. That seemed like his most likely entrance, unless he wanted to make a true entrance and call out for any monsters to come out. But he was not too keen on those sorts of theatrics, at the moment. Plus, for the former option, while he was a good climber, he needed to stick close to Splitskinner and neither of them had the proper tools. Even if he made it, the dwarf likely would not.

"Guess we'll head straight in," Neil told him, but as he moved forward, his intrepid curiosity got the better of him. He was very certain nothing was in there, as adventures would have picked it clean, but he wanted to check inside the broken northern tower very quickly with a once over look to see if anything new had crawled in there, or perhaps he could see something no others would. "Watch my back, Split," Neil told the Dwarf, and then lithely stepped past the mud and poked his head into the broken ruin of the tower, brow raised as he glanced around.

Gorald nodded as the pair of you carefully navigated the fallen masony. As you kept an eye out for weak stonework above you, you notice a murder of crows watching silently from the ruined ramparts. You head towards the ruined tower, allowing your eyes to adjust as you peer into the gloom. You can still see your companions on the other side of the nearby bridge.
The sunbeams drifting through the gaps in the rotting wooden ceiling don't touch the North wall,
where you can see a wooden door, banded with iron. It looks old and worn. Other then that and the rubble, the room appears empty. You hear no sound.




HOW DO YOU PROCEED?

► Search the Room (10 mins)
► Look through the arrow slits
