The weather in Chicago left much to desire. The wind blew across the waterway, increasing the humidity until the wind left a permanent chill within the body. Raúl pulled his jacket in tighter as he stood next to a white sheet that lay on the ground. It was strange, the use of white to cover a dead body. Raúl wondered if it originated from Asian funeral rites.

Regardless of where it came from, the white sheet currently covered a body. Raúl managed to gain access to the crime scene thanks to his ID, which declared him as law enforcement from Spain. Although, the term law enforcement was a stretch. Raúl was more of a bounty hunter for the supernatural community.

Raúl crouched down and lifted the sheet. The witch simply looked like they were asleep. Their face was unblemished, and the face lay free from stress or wrinkles. However, the lack of a heartbeat and breathing pattern was enough reason to know the witch was quite dead. Not to mention the blue colouring around their lips to indicate the cold.

Raúl ran his hand across his face, rubbing his moustache before he set the sheet back down and stood. Something was off. It was the only reason why he had been called in. But what had happened,d and who did it? Those were the questions Raúl needed to answer before more witches died.

Amara was on her way home from work she parked her car in front of a local coffee shop to get a little pick me up after a very long day, she noticed a number of police officers nearby with a bunch of tape around an area. She was curious but she wasn't law enforcement and Amara knew that she could get in trouble if she tried to look past and see what was wrong. Amara entered the shop and there were a few voices of people talking amongst themselves, that they had found a body where the police were which was a little bit interesting.

Amara got in line and eventually it was her turn she ordered a black coffee and a turkey bagel sandwich off of the menu, after waiting a little bit Amara's order was up and she was given her food. Though the curiosity was getting the best of her and Amara decided to wander a little bit closer to the crime scene.

She noticed someone looking at a body as a few news reporters were trying to get more information from one of the officers, while a few other people had their phones out to record the entire thing. Amara noticed someone lifting up the cover to look at the body as the forensic team were doing looking over the body as well to.

Raúl's eyes scanned over the crime scene. There had been no signs of a struggle and a witness claimed the victim was walking before they suddenly dropped. There was no reason not to believe the witness, but when Raúl had arrived on scene he had scented the area. There was no other scent around the witch but there was something strange about their scent.

As his eyes took in everything once more, they landed on a blonde woman who was watching him. She had no interest in the other police officers or reporters fighting for attention and answers. Raúl missed the days where cell phones could only be used in certain places because there were only a few towers that could transfer signals.

Raúl walked over to the woman who stood on the other side of the police line. His eyes roamed her, taking his measure of her. There was something other about this woman as well. Perhaps a witch as well.

”Good evening, miss. I'm certain you will hear all about this on the news. Perhaps you should move on.” His tone was even, but it didn't leave much room for negotiation.

Amara turned to see someone approaching her as she looked at the body once more she still couldn't get a good view of whats happening really or what the body under the tarp looked like. "Hi there, I was just curious what happened is all." Amara said as she glanced at the tarp once more. She then turned her attention back towards the man in front of her, she didn't see any kind of uniform on him and assumed that he was either a detective of some kind or a private investigator.

"Is there anything weird or off with the body?" Amara decided to ask hoping to get a little bit more information from him, there was also something off about the man standing in front of her, but she decided to keep that to herself. She didn't trust vampire or werewolves all that much if he was either one of them.

Raúl looked at the woman curiously, wondering what could possibly attract her to a crime scene. Of course, the new things these days seemed to be those true crime podcasts. Perhaps she was another avid listener.

”I’m afraid I can’t disclose that sort of information to the public.” Raúl had glanced back at the crime scene while he spoke. He looked back at Amara now and gave her a tight-lipped smile. ”Do you live near here? It would be better if you weren’t alone and headed home.”

Amara's eyes wandered back to the body once more she still wasn't really buying the man's story as she turned to meet his gaze, he wasn't wearing any sort of police uniform which meant he was either an undercover officer or a detective of some kind.

"Do you happen to have a badge on you?" Amara asked him waiting to see if he would show her one or not Amara crossed her arms over her chest as she stared at him when he asked if she lived somewhere nearby. "I have an apartment a few blocks away yes I parked my car nearby." Amara answered him.

Raúl slowly smiled when the woman asked to see his badge. He supposed she had every right to, even if she was just a bystander rather than a witness to the crime. Raúl slipped a hand inside his jacket and pulled out a card. He flipped it over and handed it to her.

”Raúl Alonso. I’m a private investigator. I was called in to assist with the case,” he briefly explained to Amara. ”I would suggest heading home. The streets at night won’t be safe until whatever did this has been stopped,” Raúl stated.

Amara took the card and started to look it over as he handed it to her and took it. "Amara Crane it's nice to meet you." She said as she looked at the scene once more and nodded slightly. "I hope that you have a good evening." Amara said to him as she turned around and started to head back over to where she had parked her car originally.

She pulled out her car keys and started to unlock it and got inside, she put the key into the ignition and started it up. She still wasn't sure what happened exactly as she looked at the scene from where her car was and started to head back to her apartment which luckily wasn't to far from where it was and made it back to her building without to much of an issue.

”Take care, Amara.” Raúl bowed his head slightly, watching Amara walk away before he went back to the task at hand. He stayed with the investigative team until they gathered all the information they could from the street. The body was then collected and moved to the morgue downtown. However, Raúl didn't follow.

A few hours had passed since the investigation started and Raúl had yet to quench his thirst as it were. Thankfully, Chicago had a busy nightlife. Raúl managed to find his next drink easily.

Raúl prided himself on self-control. He only took a little blood here and there, compelling his creatures to forget before moving on. Of course, there was no way to keep from marking his meals, but he had been given a way to speed up the healing process. Not all witches were difficult to work with. Unfortunately, this time, Raúl's dinner plans were cut short.

A familiar scent that he had picked up at the crime scene caught his attention. He quickly compelled the woman he had been drinking from and sent her back before he stalked down the street. Whomever carried the scent moved with purpose, but they were not easy to track. They moved erratically, up one street and down another before doubling back through an alley. Raúl hadn't realized how many side streets there were in Chicago until that night. Eventually, he tracked the scent to a building that wasn't far from the crime scene.

Raúl watched the building from the shadows across the street. Perhaps the killer lived nearby. That was a common scenario for most human serial killers, but Raúl wasn't sure that ideology translated to the supernatural community as well.
