Death wanted to pull his hair out of his head. This was turning into a right mess! At least he was out of that cage and they were out of that man's house but that was really the only good things he could point out. He was so stuck in the stupid mortal body, in the mortal world, with no idea how to break the centuries old spell. He just wanted to grab the magician and rip him apart! Oh right. He can't. Cause he can't use magic! Death groaned loudly as he flopped down on his back on the floor, splaying his arms out to either side in defeat. How did he ever end up like this? Him? Death? All powerful god! Ender of all things! Trapped within a mortal body. He sighed as Kaia placed a mug of something in front of him. He contemplated not sitting up at all but figured that would be considered rude, so with a grunt, he sat up again and picked the mug up. He wasn't sure what she was trying to give him to drink but it had a strong smell to it, and when he took a sip he found it had just as strong of a taste as well. He wasn't a fan and the disgusted face he made after trying it proved that. He set the mug to the side as he listened to her explanation of their options.

He grunted as he crossed his arms, pondering hard on what they could do. She made a lot of good points. The way he saw it, they could work on multiple different fronts to try and get the runes sorted. That way they were not putting all their eggs in one basket. They could send the runes to her father to try and decipher while they sought out Thoth. After all, there is no guarantee that he would even help them after they go through the trouble of tracking down his study. In the meantime, they could do their own research to try and decipher the runes as well. It would probably be the safest bet for them. That way, if one path failed, they weren't left with nothing. They still had some ground to stand on. He was about to present his thoughts on the matter when she suddenly stood up with a yell.

He watched as she scrambled to perform the spell, watching as she walked over to hand him a small jar. He eyed it with a deep frown on his face. So this was what his life was reduced to, eh? Relying on the spellcraft of a witch to keep him hidden from a mortal man? He sighed as he set the jar in his lap. He may not like it but he wasn't going to go anywhere without it. There was no way he was going to let that magician capture him again and shove his ass in a cage.

“So, two things.” He started as he reached out to take the shirt from her. He slipped it over his head and pulled it down, thankful to have some kind of decent clothing on at least. “Why does that man have your blood? And we should most definitely send the runes to your father while we try and sort them out on our own as well. If getting help from a god doesn't work out for us, it's best to have at least some kind of help in that regard. Best not rely solely on one plan.” He twirled the jar around in his hands as he spoke.

Picking up her lukewarm coffee, she sipped with a frown. She really was no fan of cold coffee. She eyed the other mug, it seemed Death wasn't a fan at all. She couldn't really blame him, coffee wasn't for everyone. Kaia sat down on the edge of the couch, her eyes scanning over the runes in the carpet. "He has my blood because I used it to set you free. I didn't have time to outsource blood to alter those runes around the cage. I realize now how immensely stupid I was, but I couldn't not free you." She felt as though she was trying to convince herself. "But if he's half as intelligent as I expect, he'd know the bloodmagic he used had to be altered to set you free. The only way to do that is with more blood. I mean, if I was in his position, I'd use that blood for more than simply finding the one who set my prisoner free." The more she speaks, the more uncomfortable she becomes with the situation, "I'd use it to curse the owner." The concern came through vividly across Kaia's face. She felt all she could do is hope that the magician saw more worth in finding them and that her protection spells were strong enough.

"I don't wa-" she stops herself, reconsidering her words, "My father is a difficult person. I'm not certain he will help. He's a busy man and quite particular as to what he gives his time and attention to. I can ask one of the help to send me access codes to the family's digital library instead. That might aid my decoding efforts." She'd prefer to avoid involving her father, she realized. Hell, she might even choose struggling and failing over asking his aid. She hoped Death would somehow forget of that as an option.

Her eyes fall to the jar in Death's hands, "Two nights from now there will be a full moon. I can perform a ritual to reach out to Thoth. If I weave some of the energy you gave me throughout, I'm certain it will draw the attention of any god. Considering Thoth is a god of wisdom and magic, we should have luck in piqueing his curiosity enough. At least, that's what I'm hoping."

She downed her disappointing coffee, getting to her feet again. Bringing a notebook and pen closer, she started replicating the runes into the paper, taking extra care of their spacings and placement. She didn't want to accidentally cast a spell with these runes she knew absolutely nothing about. Not a single one of them looked familiar to her. She scribbled a few additional notes down in the back, wondering how long this world will remain deathless.

Curses were definitely not something anyone wanted to deal with and usually, something he couldn't care less about but since he was trapped in the human body, there wasn't much he could do if the magician did decide to punish her in that way. Perhaps Thoth could be able to cleanse her of any curse if they did manage to get a hold of it. Maybe the magician would just be too stupid to think that far ahead. At least, he hoped.

Death eyed Kaia with a deep frown that only deepened as she began with how she didn't want to deal with her father to only take a pause before she took a different direction towards explaining her father. Death understood, to a degree. He didn't have family or a father but he understood dealing with difficult people. Gods are very difficult people to work with. They were forever stuck in their ways and didn't deviate from it for even a moment. You would have a better chance working them into your plan than to make a plan with them. It did help to make gods rather predictable or at least, Death had thought. With Athena going for the throne, Death was beginning to wonder if he even knew the other gods as well as he had assumed. This whole situation was turning everything on its head. He needed to get back to his godly form as quickly as possible.

“Look, I get dealing with difficult people. Trust me, you don't get much more difficult than gods. Do you know that Zeus has an inferiority complex thanks to humans? That god thinks he's the god king. Which, he is not. We don't have kings or anyone in charge really. There are tiers to our power-” he paused a moment as he looked to Kaia before shaking his head. “Nevermind. It's incredibly complex. Let's just leave it at that.”

“Anyways, sometimes you have to deal with those difficult people if you want to get things done. The longer I'm stuck in this accursed form, the worst it becomes for every living thing on EARTH! You see what I'm getting at? What I'm saying, nicely, is suck it up and do what needs to be done.”

When she said the full moon was coming around, Death let out a deep grown. Deaths, especially death by suicide always spiked by the full moon. And he probably wasn't going to be able to instruct his reapers through it all. It made him incredibly frustrated just thinking about it but she was right about the full moon. That would probably be the best time for them to get a hold of Thoth or make some kind of contact. If she did use his magic, he was sure the spell couldn't be ignored. He just hoped that it was Thoth that would answer it and not someone else who would rather Death not have his throne back.

He stood off the ground, giving a mighty stretch before he tucked his hands behind his head. He wasn't sure what he could do in the meantime while she got to work on deciphering the runes. There was still some time before they contacted Thoth and he really didn't have anything else he could do. It made him feel useless and anxious. Damn, he hated being in the human body and worst, he was hungry. His stomach rumbled loudly and he looked down at it. He had never truly felt hunger before. It was a new experience for him and one he didn't quite favor. “How do you deal with being human! Imagine having to constantly eat to sustain yourself. It's dreadful!”

Kaia found herself interested when Death started explaining about the gods. She had wondered if there was some kind of complex hierarchical structure, but she couldn't bring herself to see Zues, the god that embodies horniness and lust, as a ruler over other gods. She shivered at the thought.

Getting a speech from Death about sucking it up? Kaia sighs, "Very well. I will reach out to him." She takes a seat at her laptop and starts typing away, reading and rereading the email before she clicks on the dreaded SEND button. She already regrets it, leaning back in her chair as she contemplated the situation.

Then, Death's stomach rumbled. He exclaimed in such a helpless fashion, Kaia almost felt sorry for him. She burst out in laughter, the tension she's been holding pushed to the back of her mind. She hadn't even considered food since this all started, much less the other requirements and demands of a mortal body. "I'll order pizza. Not the healthiest option and might lead me to an early grave, but you won't be able to take me there now," she joked as she picked up her phone.

Finishing the call, she stands, motioning for Death to follow her, "Time for a quick tour." She walks him through the apartment, "Grab the guest bedroom when you're tired. There's some books, if you'd be interested in reading. Here's the bathroom, there's some towels in the cupboard. Be careful with the warm water, it is HOT, so start with bits at a time when you want to shower. I'll bring you some more clothes, too. There's the toilet..." She looks at him, "Need an explanation on how to use, or can I trust you to keep things clean?"

Death watched her as she finally got to work to get in touch with her father. He stood up off the ground, leaving the jar where he sat and made his way over to glance over her shoulder and read the email she sent. He didn't get very far into it before she sent it on its way. Nonetheless, it was off and they would be getting some help in that regard. He rested a hand on her shoulder before giving her a stern nod. “Thank you. I know you were reluctant but this is more than just you and your father.”

With the reminder of his mortality, her offer of food seemed reasonable enough. Pizza was an option, he supposed. He never had pizza. To be fair, he never really had any kind of food, period. Unlike the other gods who might take some time for themselves every now and then, Death's job was constant and endless. He couldn't just stop or pause his job for a bit. The very current events were a perfect example of why Death needed to always be working. People died every second of the day. If he took even a moment off, they would get backed up and the world would be thrust into chaos. And he was in this mortal body for more than a week now!

The world was teetering on the brink of collapse. The only thing he could think of that didn't cause it to completely implode upon itself was that his reapers were still out in the world, trying to do their job to the best of their ability. Mind you, the best of their ability was still shit because he had made them to have little to no intelligence, but it was better than nothing. With each new soul they reaped on their own, they shifted the balance just slightly back to where it was meant to be. However, that was like trying to bail the ocean at this point. He could feel the imbalance within his very being. It pushed against him to the point that it was almost painful. It was just on the brink of fracturing.

He had half a mind to call someone and hand his throne over. He could instill his throne onto someone who could run it for him until he got back, but who could he even trust with such power that would be willing to give it back? Death has to be impartial. There can be no killing one person for the good of another. You must take the soul when it is their time, not sooner and no later. Did he even know a god who could be that impartial, except maybe Life? But he couldn't just drop that burden on Life's shoulders, especially not with how much they work as well. He would have to find someone else to do it. He quietly grumbled to himself as he tried to sort through the gods who might have a meager chance of actually doing the job right. The list was quickly dwindling.

He was pulled from his grim thoughts when she motioned for him to follow her. She was going to give him a tour of her house. He sighed loudly before he followed behind her, only half paying attention as she explained the different rooms and the bathroom. When she asked if he needed an explanation of the toilet, he looked at her through the lashes of half-lidded eyes. “I think I can figure it out just fine, thanks.” He was in a foul mood. He didn't like the thought of giving up his throne, let alone the fact that he was having a very hard time figuring out which god would be a good fit to take it for the time being. “I need some fresh air.” He left her there in the hallway as he pushed past. He made his way out of the house through the front door and stood there on her front porch. He sighed, slipping his hands into his pants' pockets as he took a deep breath.

“What am I going to do?” He asked himself as he closed his eyes. He had never felt this helpless before. This was a new and very unwelcome experience for him. He couldn't deny the imbalance anymore. It had been too long. If he waited for even the full moon, the world may be torn asunder or some other unwanted god may take his throne. If he wanted things to at least go how he wanted them to go, he needed to do something about it, now.

He took another long breath as he made his decision. He would pick a god to take his throne for him, temporarily. Who, he wasn't sure. But at least he knew the next step. He sighed as he went to go back inside to tell Kaia of his plans when he felt a dark, vicious presence manifest just before him on the sidewalk. He paused, his hand having been extended to grasp the doorknob, and peered over his shoulder to see what had just appeared there. The shadows condensed and swirled in a spot just before the steps. He slowly grasped a hold of the doorknob as darkness began to build, slowly taking form on the sidewalk just before him. When a deep growl escaped the forming beast, a growl that vibrated deep within Death's bones, the color drained from his face. “No,” he whispered as he turned to the door and ripped it open just as a HellHound finished materializing and barreled up the stairs after him.

He slammed the door closed, catching the dog's head in the threshold. The snarling beast lashed out at him, snapping its jaws at him, its teeth being nearly as long as Death's hands. Its blood red eyes swirled with the fires of hell and smoke plumed from its nostrils and it struggled to free itself from the door. Death braced himself, one leg braced firmly outward and the other with his knee pushed against the door. He had his shoulder and whole side pressed against the door as well, straining to keep the beast crushed firmly between the door and the doorframe. “HellHound!” He screamed out before the creature inhaled deeply and unleashed a large breath of fire into Kaia's front room.
