History
Marygold was born in Berlin, and her mother was a Botanist, and her father was a biologist, causing them to name her after a flower. She lived with them in Germany for the first 5 years of her life, causing her to be bilingual and fluent in both German and English. She always helped her mother in the garden outside of their house, and she enjoyed it.
When she was 5 years old, her family immigrated from Germany and moved to the United States. They moved to the small town of Lake Placid, New York. It was a beautiful little town, and it served the purpose for both of her parents professions. Her mother helped out in the community with environmental projects and such, resulting in several community gardens springing up around the town, and Marygold helped out with the projects too. As she got older, she was able to do more in the gardens around the town and the one in her front yard, and her life was great.
Then came the discovery of her mutant abilities, and her life got turned upside down. No one except for her parents knew about it, but she was afraid of what might happen if others found out. When she was 12, a man in a wheelchair came to her home and asked to speak to her parents. The conversation that ensued was a life changing experience for her. The man identified himself as Charles Xavier, and he had a school in the countryside outside of New York City. It was a school for children with extraordinary abilities, kids like Marygold. He offered her the chance to learn more about her abilities, and she decided to attend the school.
Her life was ruff those first few months at the Institute, but as she aged and gained better control of her abilities, she started to enjoy her life there. When she was 16 years old, she officially joined the X-Men under the leadership of Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops. Mary worked with the team, though many of it's members were not too thrilled of the idea of having a kid join them, she proved that she could fight. Her very first mission with the team was in the deserts of Nevada, and the only thing she could use her powers on was a cactus. During the fight, she had decided to improvise. The cactus had grown to an enormous size, and she yanked one of the pins out to use as a weapon.
After that first mission, Mary had formed a strong friendship with the one and only Remy LeBeau, also known as Gambit. Their friendship shifted more into a sibling relationship, though they did make an odd pair. The Cajun and the German were practically brother and sister, and they spent a lot of time together. Usually on missions, she ended up going off partnered up with him and Rogue.
The first time she fought the Brotherhood was also when she met the girl who would eventually become her best friend, Guinevere Stark. They were attacking the boarding school that Guin was at, and the X-Men had gone off to stop them, wanting to protect all of the students there. Mary had been told to get Guin away from the school, but she ended up running straight into Pietro Maximoff, Quicksilver. She nearly lost her life fighting him, her first time during the incident was outside, and she was still fine and able to function, it was the second time where he nearly killed her. Mary was fighting him on the fourth floor of the dorms, when he sent her flying backwards through the window. The entire incident nearly resulted in her death, but she survived. Mary had to spend over a month in the hospital, another month in a wheelchair, and a few weeks doing physical therapy before she was allowed to go on missions again.
At the age of 19, many of the older X-Men had decided to leave the mansion, as they felt like they needed to try and move on with their lives. Scott and Xavier offered Mary the chance to lead the newest team, and she went along with it. She was sad to see them go, but she knew they had to see if they could have normal lives outside of the mansion. She spent the next year forming the team, and training them to fight, eventually leading to her first mission as the team leader at the Hanson Power Plant.
Then came the incident with OMEN and the Sentinels, causing Mary to be a little more hesitant for any sort of aid from anyone not at the mansion. She found out about the experiments that SHIELD was doing, and decided to try and do something, maybe even see about getting them out of there and take them back to the mansion.

"The Incident" more or less changed Mary's life, and in her opinion it wasn't for the better. The device used to draw the Phoenix out of her body before she seemingly lost all of her mutant powers. She doesn't know if that is a good thing yet or not, but she very much couldn't stay around the mansion or really near anyone from there. She felt horrible and her faith in just herself was basically shot and completely gone. How could she stick around when she couldn't even trust her own actions?
Gambit and Rogue had offered her to come live with them down in New Orleans, and she took them up on that offer. Mary basically stayed in the house most days. In part because she doesn't trust herself, and partially because Gambit and Rogue didn't want her to wander off by herself. She was trying hard to understand what all was going on, or even what to do with her life, but she had no idea what she was even going to do anymore.
Personality
Marygold can be a deemed a little bit aggressive at times. She can be easily provoked and can go off picking a fight with someone at a moments notice. However, she can be a good leader, since many people can trust her to make decisions and plot out a course of action. Her stubborness however has been known to get her in trouble, since she isn't too keen on budging from what she thinks is the right course of action.
She is laid back though, which helps her get to know and understand those around her, and making her seem more approachable to others. She can be a bit snarky and sarcastic, but usually not at anytime that truly matters. She'll make the occasional sarcastic comment and that is the end of it. Marygold is loyal to her friends and those she trusts, and will do anything in her power to protect them.
Though after what she dubbed "The Incident", Marygold is more or less a bit withdrawn. She doesn't trust her own mind anymore and is a bit less likely to go out of her way to make new friends over all. She's definitely a lot more self conscious about everything with herself, and feels like a part of her is missing since she lost her powers.
