In ancient Greece, the great city states of Athens and Sparta have finally called a truce after a bitter, eight year war. Through Pythia, the Oracle of Delphi, the gods proclaimed that they were displeased with the sin and folly of the city elders of not just Athens and Sparta, but of the cities that have remained neutral. In order to save their cities and protect Greece in the future, they called for the building of a school, where the young men and women of the great cities of Greece would be sent to learn how to rule. With knowledge and wisdom, they would save mother Greece from the failure of their elders.

At the foot of Mount Parnassus, the Greeks pulled their efforts and resources to build the school, collectively called Paideia Alpha. Though many Greeks believe that this school is a waste of time (the Spartans are easily the most vocal), many maintain hope that the young men of the Paideia Alpha will save Greece's future.

For this RPG, Players will take on the roles of young Greek men and women who have come to the Paideia to learn the skills necessary to lead Greece into a brighter and safer future. Expect this OOC to get more and more updates as time goes on, because I am going to be adding more information, both about the setting and the school itself.

Here is some info on some of the city-states

ATHENS


Wisdom, Honor, Democracy

Athens is the great sea port of Greece, but it is also the birthplace of democracy. They are famous for their learned men and brilliant philosophers. While they have a mostly part time army, their soldiers are devoted and strong, though not as experienced or as well trained as the heroic Spartans. They do, however, maintain a full time Navy, which is considered by many to be the best trained and equipped in the world. Each Athenian vessel houses at least 20 Athenian Marines, a skilled force of the best fighters and warriors Athens has to offer.

Sparta

Glory, Valor, Strength

Sparta is home to the greatest soldiers and warriors in Greece. Ares is their favored god, and they are famous for not only a strong military tradition, but for it's athletes as well. The Spartan Hoplite is a perfect warrior, but he does not sully his hands with any other work than soldering. The Helots, who outnumber the Spartans, are little more than slaves. But the will of Sparta is indomitable, and a Spartan with a good spear and a strong shield can change the world. At least, that's what the Spartan's believe.

Thebes

Community, Courage, Nobility

Thebes is the agricultural heartland of Greece. Its fields and farms are the best maintained and the most bountiful. They are humble farmers in peacetime, but in battle, the men of Thebes are the finest light horsemen west of Persia. The horsemen of Thebes are light, fast, and are accurate with javelins. Despite their blood thirsty wartime appearances, the people of Thebes are known for the generosity and kindness towards others. Thebes is also the closest city state to the Paideia, and the school receives much of their supplies from Thebes itself.

Crete

Tradition, Heritage, Piety

The island of Crete is the site of the city of Knossos, a city well known on both sides of the Aegean Sea. Firstly, it is old even by the standards of the Greeks, and was the birthplace of a civilization that predates even Egypt. Many scholars and learned men come to Crete, looking Minoan artifacts and relics. Second, it holds a deep religious significance to the rest of Greece, as it is the place where the hero Theseus battled and slew the Minotaur. To this day, the people of Crete take religion very seriously. Finally, the Cretans are famous for their skill with a bow, and many of Crete's men work as mercenary archers.

Rhodes

Genius, Insight, Ambition

The men of Rhodes are the great builders and architects of Greece. They have built strong cities, fine harbors and the mighty Collosus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. When not building, Rhodians are stout warriors, famous for their use of slings. Though they have a strong military, they remain peaceful and are usually the ones to call for peace when Athens and Sparta flex their military muscle. Like Athens, they are learned men, but they are also ambitious men, ready to take the fate of the world into their own hands.

No, not necessarily, but singing is certainly something they offer at the school.

Personality: A timid and shy young girl, she usually hides in corners when feeling threatened or scared. She is known to be kind if you can get her to speak to your.
History: She used to live in all female household, where men were demonized, but when she reached 15 her sisters decided it was time to send her to the school.
Dream: To become a singer in the colluseam, or fight in it, but hopefully singing.
Fear: She has a fear of men, due to the fact that they were demonized as she was growing up, if she tries to speak to one she'll start to stammer and appear awkward before running off as fast as she can.

Weapons: Bow and arrows, though will take up her cities preferred weapon of spear and shield if called upon.
Appearance: Very short black hair that just barely reaches the bottom of her ears, tan skin with a few small scars on her arms and legs, and one fairly good sized on on her shoulder. Dark green eyes. Has a very athletic body and is 5'8"
Personality: Head strong and confident, she's a strong spartan warrior and she knows it.
History: Born the only child to a strong Hoplite and his wife, Ademia wasn't destined for a soft cozy life, not that she minds. Her father started to teach her how to defend herself and fight at a young age and she often got into fights with some of the other kids around the town (one which resulted in the big scar on her shoulder). Her father decided that eventually, it might be a good idea for his daughter to learn something other then how to beat someone else up and shipped her off to Paideia Alpha.
Dream: To become a proud warrior for her land.
Fear: To become someones wife that just sat around all doing nothing important.

Brown, wavy hair of medium length, and a bit of facial hair growth. Dark brown eyes. Of slim but somewhat muscular built.
Personality: A composed young man, which does not show much emotion, no matter the situation. At first glance he seems friendly and modest, but he can be quite arrogant. Hesperos is not one who likes to get his hands dirty (in the literal sense), and mainly wants to focus on learning rhetoric, philosophy, and arts.
History: Hesperos was born in a relatively wealthy family where eloquence and rhetoric was seen as one of the most important values of men. All of his family members – his father, mother, and two younger brothers – succeeded in speaking with the grace and vocabulary of a poet or king, whereas for Hesperos it really wasn’t one of the things he exceeded in. On top of that physically not too strong, his father decided to send him to the Paideia Alpha, to improve and become a better representation of their family as their eldest son.
Besides gaining a better skill in rhetoric and battle, Hesperos also wants to learn more about philosophy and arts, as it has had his interest from a young age.
Dream: To improve on all fronts and become a decent representative of his family. After that, maybe try to impress the girls with his newly gained rhetoric skills...
Fear: Failing, Being embarrassed.

Appearance:
Blonde, small, and petite, Aura is able to slip by unnoticed if she wishes.
Personality: light hearted and caring, Aura easily makes friends and is liked by most all she meets. she is often turned to when having trouble for advice, despite her age. She takes careful thought and consideration to her decisions and is careful when sharing her knowledge. Aura is not afraid to get down and dirty, especially when it comes to the horses. She is focused on learning agriculture at the school and training for battle. when it comes to fighting, she is more likely to talk her way out peacefully, but if forced, she is light on her feet in combat and is not afraid to harm her enemy.
History: as a child, aura dressed as a stable boy and helped with the horses, up until she became of age she could no longer help, her father reluctantly accepted that she was not a woman to stay home with children. Instead he allowed her to work with the men, and taught her to hold her own in battle, and against those who challenge her ability to work. she has 2 sisters and 2 brothers, all older then her.
Dream: Aura dreams to help her family and city in making the most bountiful of harvests and crops as well as the import and export of livestock/crops. as well as learn the best way to train War horses.
Fear: being caged in, being locked up, not being able to see the sky
