I was wondering if an attempt to make a JRPG-like roleplay complete with a semi-linear story and epic battles (sometimes) would be met with approval or disaster. I would take care of the Narration, the NPCs and the monsters as well as craft a plot with the input of all who wish to give it. This would obliviously be a pretty involved project, so I wanted to test the water before diving in.

I need four dedicated players and maybe a co-GM or two, as well as lots of ideas. Would anyone be game?

I'm really interested in this, but a bit wary about throwing in my hat, because I'm not sure if I would be as dedicated as what your looking for.

Thank you for the interest, and just think about it, there is no need for pressure just yet. :)

I'm very interested, but I have a few questions.
For starters, what genre of roleplay do you have in mind? How similar do you want the whole experience to be when compared to pen-paper roleplaying games of the same genre? I guess I shouldn't be asking about story-specifics quite yet, but I am curious. Regardless of the answers, I'm quite interested to see what can come of this.

I'd be interested, but I'll need a plot outline to be sure.

I'll actually be taking inspiration from video games, as my pen and paper experience is limited. There will be a tale that starts with peace, a series of strong monsters and enemies to defeat, a land to unify and finally probably a world to save. As far as battle go, I will be giving everyone a set number of hits to not exceed unless they want to be defeated and be the judge of whether a blow hit or not. There will be rewards such as experience points, currencies and items, both consumable and equipable, as well as resting areas complete with sleep and shop areas.

What would you like to see, Mizuho?

Hmmm, while I feel that this roleplay has the potential to take off, it also had the potential to become an extremely god-modded roleplay as well.

When you say "basing it off if video games", I'm assuming that you mean basing it off the bare essentials that has created the JRPG genre with probably turn-based battles? I guess my question would be: how much of this roleplay will be GM moderated, and how much will be character based?

And in terms of plot, you could go two ways: the traditional "evil is taking over, we have to stop it" plot that is the staple of JRPGs, or you could bring this a completely different direction (although it'll probably be very similar to the former anyway. I personally can't think of anything that'll revolutionize JRPGs) I probably have some ideas in my mind, but I can't seem to recall them at the moment.

Battles will be regulated, as that while most hits will take as if not moderated at all some will fail if too outlandish. Basically, I will merely be controlling the monsters and you can do your thing within reason. As for the plot, I will urge you forward with events but that too will be up to you, say you hear that an enemy is attempting to destroy a town, you can go to the town itself, try to find the enemy before they get there or just ignore it and continue what you were doing and wait for the result because that enemy is too strong or scary for your taste. Battles will indeed be turn-based, to be more manageable.

I can think of two ways to start, your characters will all come from the same wandering tribe or from different areas, depending on who you all want to be.

I personally think people from different areas would allow a more creative cast, but this would depend on what exactly the plot is.
