I saw this news article on the LA Times and I was like "OH HELL NO.". This is the end of of a free and open Internet. We have lost this war of keeping the cable and phone companies off of our free Internet.

Yep, I guess I'll be moving to somewhere that's less oppressive about their communications, like Antarctica. You only get 1 hour of contact time with the world, but nobody's going to shut up the guy living in Antarctica.

I think it will happen only in America and no where else (but it will give other countries inspire to make laws to kill off their own Net Neutural).

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA! Sure, ISPs elsewhere may not restrict the speed, but they restrict the content. Americans will pay through the nose for the freedom of saying, doing and surfing whatever, while the rest of the world gets cheap internet that's censored. Even developed countries aren't excused, the UK has already set up a morality censor that you must opt-out of if you want to see porn or anything "objectionable" (defined, of course, by the government).

That's missing the point of the issue. And to make a petty complaint about a topic only semi-related. No one even made a comment about any other rights issues. The other rights issues are important, too, though you could argue a lifetime away about the difference between the liberty/rights of an individual versus its deserved regulation because of the resulting impact on another individual. This is an issue of freedom of speech and the freedom to choose the content you use. That should matter to you. I would argue the first matters more. If there's a problem, and you don't have the freedom of speech, you can't argue that something is wrong. You can't have an unfavorable, minority opinion. And that leads to stagnation, oppression, and no question of the norm or standard.Another thing: This won't get remotely the same kind of press those issues do (except maybe aspects of privacy issues). Which hurts the chances that anything will be done about it or anyone will know or care. That automatically creates a bigger problem for the whole population. However much you value one right or another.

Wait... This article is dated January 14th. When were/are the effects of this ruling supposed to come into play? It's possible that all this won't affect the average internet-user as much as we thought.

So, you're fine if a greedy company comes and makes your Internet speed slower and you have to pay lots of money to make it go faster.
