Welcome to the City of Angels
For those unfamiliar, the world of Vampire: The Masquerade is our own. Many of our myths are real, but not as we imagined, and global issues such as global warming and international crime are exaggerated, but they are still our own. Humanity is ruled and hunted on, although unaware, of a ruling class of powerful supernatural beings known as the Kindred. Vampires for the less poetic. Vampires remain hidden through the Masquerade. It is both a set of rules and a lifestyle and as time has gone by, with the advent of global media and cameras, the dance has become only more intricate.
In the world of the Kindred LA is a battle ground. The three main groups of Kindred, the draconian Camarilla, the rebellious Anarchs and the twisted Sabbat all hold some amount of sway in or around the city, neither able to push the other out, infighting a persistent problem for them to effectively fight their rivals. In recent years, a tenuous truce held between the Camarilla and Anarchs, each agreeing to hold sway over certain regions of the city and its suburbs. No longer fighting each other, the two groups have forced the Sabbat out of the city proper, relegated to underground operations and the occasional attack. This peace was broken two years ago when a string of attacks killed the Camarilla Prince of Downtown LA and the Anarch Baron of Hollywood, along with various other important members of both factions. The origin of the attacks was never traced, but a combination of distrust and a desire among the Kindred to exploit any weakness soon plunged the hidden world of the Kindred into war. General allegiances collapsed as individual bands of Kindred struggled to improve their own positions, irregardless of previous labels such as Anarch or Camarilla.
At the same time, the human world of LA suffered, its administration secretly dependent upon orders from Kindred who had been slain or preoccupied with the fighting of their own kind, the already tenuous hold on order began to slip. There was an initial surge in crime as local police forces were unable to secure funding, which the city has not yet to recover from. Immigration control equally suffered, leading to rapid population growth, particularly in areas such as China Town. This cultural ghetto has since expanded, along with other regions of the city seemingly given over to various cultures from the Far East. All in all, LA has gone through two years of conflict and change, for both the Kindred and Kine. The worst seems to be over as Kindred once more remember their bonds to each other, but there are new threats stirring in the shadows. The Kindred of the Camarilla and Anarchs are not the only predators of the night.
OOC
Greetings and welcome to the interest check for an rp set in the world of Vampire: The Masquerade. Details of the setting can be found here;
Clickity
The tone of the rp is, as you can likely tell, quite dark. Vampires are evidently and unashamedly predators. They are, however, not cold and dead (well, they are technically). Strong, admittedly often what humanity would call dark or sinful, emotions drive them and most are defined by an ambition that pulls them ever higher, until their foot slips from the rung.
Players will control factions, anything ranging from between one and six Kindred and their, usually expansive, network of servants and assets. Some factions may sit beneath others in the general hierarchy of the night, but each is limited to the same number of kindred for direct control. Player factions will either be tied to the Camarilla or Anarchs (there are a few kinds of Kindred that are of other alleigances, but they should be discussed with the GM first) but the Kindred world is not quite two factions fighting against each other, factions from both side will align together for their own ends, it's just the system they find themselves within that changes.
Rules
1. GM's word is law.
2. Collaboration is the key, expect to do it, or be left out of some of the key plot points.
3. Metagaming is boring and rubbish. Don't do it.
4. Taking control of another player's character without their permission is boring and rubbish. Don't do it.
5. Don't flame the thread, take your arguments that become grievances elsewhere.
6. Issues, be they simple questions or a problem with the rp/another player can and should be brought to me. Don't let it fester.
