Welcome to the City of Angels

For those unfamiliar, the world of Vampire: The Masquerade is our own. Many of our myths are real, but not as we imagined, and global issues such as global warming and international crime are exaggerated, but they are still our own. Humanity is ruled and hunted on, although unaware, of a ruling class of powerful supernatural beings known as the Kindred. Vampires for the less poetic. Vampires remain hidden through the Masquerade. It is both a set of rules and a lifestyle and as time has gone by, with the advent of global media and cameras, the dance has become only more intricate.

In the world of the Kindred LA is a battle ground. The three main groups of Kindred, the draconian Camarilla, the rebellious Anarchs and the twisted Sabbat all hold some amount of sway in or around the city, neither able to push the other out, infighting a persistent problem for them to effectively fight their rivals. In recent years, a tenuous truce held between the Camarilla and Anarchs, each agreeing to hold sway over certain regions of the city and its suburbs. No longer fighting each other, the two groups have forced the Sabbat out of the city proper, relegated to underground operations and the occasional attack. This peace was broken two years ago when a string of attacks killed the Camarilla Prince of Downtown LA and the Anarch Baron of Hollywood, along with various other important members of both factions. The origin of the attacks was never traced, but a combination of distrust and a desire among the Kindred to exploit any weakness soon plunged the hidden world of the Kindred into war. General allegiances collapsed as individual bands of Kindred struggled to improve their own positions, irregardless of previous labels such as Anarch or Camarilla.

At the same time, the human world of LA suffered, its administration secretly dependent upon orders from Kindred who had been slain or preoccupied with the fighting of their own kind, the already tenuous hold on order began to slip. There was an initial surge in crime as local police forces were unable to secure funding, which the city has not yet to recover from. Immigration control equally suffered, leading to rapid population growth, particularly in areas such as China Town. This cultural ghetto has since expanded, along with other regions of the city seemingly given over to various cultures from the Far East. All in all, LA has gone through two years of conflict and change, for both the Kindred and Kine. The worst seems to be over as Kindred once more remember their bonds to each other, but there are new threats stirring in the shadows. The Kindred of the Camarilla and Anarchs are not the only predators of the night.

OOC

Greetings and welcome to the interest check for an rp set in the world of Vampire: The Masquerade. Details of the setting can be found here;

Clickity

The tone of the rp is, as you can likely tell, quite dark. Vampires are evidently and unashamedly predators. They are, however, not cold and dead (well, they are technically). Strong, admittedly often what humanity would call dark or sinful, emotions drive them and most are defined by an ambition that pulls them ever higher, until their foot slips from the rung.

Players will control factions, anything ranging from between one and six Kindred and their, usually expansive, network of servants and assets. Some factions may sit beneath others in the general hierarchy of the night, but each is limited to the same number of kindred for direct control. Player factions will either be tied to the Camarilla or Anarchs (there are a few kinds of Kindred that are of other alleigances, but they should be discussed with the GM first) but the Kindred world is not quite two factions fighting against each other, factions from both side will align together for their own ends, it's just the system they find themselves within that changes.

Rules
1. GM's word is law.
2. Collaboration is the key, expect to do it, or be left out of some of the key plot points.
3. Metagaming is boring and rubbish. Don't do it.
4. Taking control of another player's character without their permission is boring and rubbish. Don't do it.
5. Don't flame the thread, take your arguments that become grievances elsewhere.
6. Issues, be they simple questions or a problem with the rp/another player can and should be brought to me. Don't let it fester.

Interested. I had a couple of VtM characters on the old guild site, but I could always create a new one.

I might be interested in this. Question : will this follow, or have the characters of, Bloodlines? Like Sebastian LaCroix, Nines Rodrigez, Jack?
Just wondering because I have a character that I created for a VtM:B fanfiction that I would like to use here, but she is heavily involved with several characters from the game. If the characters from the game are not going to be in this rp then I will have to adjust her history.

Nines and Jack exist, along with a host of other characters who are found in both the Bloodlines game and the LA sourcebook for the rp. LaCroix was around, along with Isaac Abrams but both are now dead, killed in the attacks which triggered the fighting. So, you shouldn't have to change much, although your character cannot be the Fledgling in the game, one because of plot reasons, two because it's heavily implied the protagonist in bloodlines is actually of a very old generation.

Oh no my character wasn't the fledgling she was the childe of Lacroix (he sired her) who was secretly working with Nines.
But if that won't work I can adjust her.

100% interested. I used to storytell VtM a long time ago. My large group were the prince and primogen of the city we lived in. I LARP'd for a few months, but it didn't stick, either. REALLY broken combat system, where a 7th Gen Fire Tremere can WASTE, and I mean totally annihilate, a full pack of werewolves without so much as a scratch. Didn't get much into the game after Ravnos woke up.
Are you intending this RP being in Masquerade or Requiem? Got a few character ideas in mind for either. Either way, if it's in Requiem, then I'll have my vamp waking up from a long torpor or something like that.
Anyways, 100% Rock and Roll :)

Since it says players will control factions do people have ideas of which clans they will prefer to play? Seems like there's enough interest now to start an RP, so maybe if people list there top two we won't have too much overlap which should make a more interesting RP.

I've an old Ventrue character I'd love to bring back, but she could be tweaked to be a Toreador quite easily, so I'd say: Ventrue,Toreador for me in that order.

OOoh, people and questions. My favorite.

Firstly, the RP is set in the world of Masquerade, it's the setting I'm both more familiar with and personally prefer.

Secondly, a side note, factions don't have to be all of one clan, nor can a player control a whole clan with a faction, so you can have multiple nosferatu factions etc, however, it may in fact be wise to discuss which clans people are going to have in their factions, simply so we don't end up with everyone playing the same thing. I myself am playing a Toreador with potential for a few taggers on from other clans.

The idea of a vampire sired secretly by LaCroix works fine, but that connection won't mean anything beyond the power in your blood, now that the Camarilla consider him a failure.

Any other questions?

What time period will we be playing in? Are there any restrictions on what clans may be represented in the factions? I assume that there will be one main character that we will be roleplaying and then the others will be 3rd person'd?

My idea is to play a Nosferatu that controls a large portion of the sewers in the Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Glendale, Burbank, and Downtown areas. He'd be an information gatherer with 3 other Nosferatu, one Malkavian who thinks he's a Nosferatu, and an Assemite, for the dirty work that may be necessary.

Yesss. Finally, a VTM roleplay. I miss those. As you can tell, I'm very interested.
One question though, can we have independent characters? As in no allegiance? Probably no, but I just want to know

Bweoti:

1. The date is 2006.
2. Feel free to have a main character, but each Kindred of a faction should be fleshed out to the point that they are a full character. It's not forced, but I generally prefer all writing to be in 3rd person.

In regards to your idea, if you can provide a convincing explanation for an Assamite to both join the faction, and willing live in a sewer (rather goes against their cultural ties) then I see no problem with that idea.

RedDusk:

It is possible to play an independent faction, there's just very little reason to. The two allegiances are very loose in the first place, particularly the Anarchs, who are generally just anyone of a Camarilla clan who doesn't follow it, so choosing to be independent essentially just highlights to all the mean people of the night that you have no friends to protect you.

Okay thank you for answering my questions. Since this is an interest check I will wait to post my character until the actual OOC is up. But I will say that I plan for my character to now be an outcast of the Camerilla, since Lacroix failed, and is not seeking refuge with the Anarchs, whom she was secretly working with and feeding information. The fact that Lacroix was her sire will be a secret that only a few people know.
If that gets GM approval I will start to work on adjusting her CS to fit this particular rp, but as I said I will not post it until the OOC is up.

Wernher:

DT is more acceptable than the Baali, given that they have no real presence on the West Coast of the US, I can imagine members of the Camarilla/Anarchs willing to dabble in such arts to use blood magic. So, you probably couldn't do a faction of just Baali, instead maybe a single member who is teaching a coterie of other Vampires the darker ways.

Myst:

I don't see why she wouldn't want to see shelter with the Anarchs, a lone Vampire with no ties to either allegiance probably wouldn't last long.

Side Note to all, enough interest that I'll begin working on the OOC, still looking for more players though.

I'd be interested, but I don't know about this whole "taking control of another's character is rubbish, don't do it" thing. Given, simply telling the other person what his character does is BS because it should be up to them to RP it, but basically three quarters of the clans have some form of mind control or psychic influence type disciplines, and without actually being able to use them--i.e., tell PCs its up to them to decide if they are strong willed enough to resist a PC that specializes in breaking peoples' wills, which everybody does the majority of the time whether it makes sense or not--most of those are at a severe disadvantage, particularly when it comes to going up against the combat-oriented characters, such as the Brujah who have celerity and potence, or the Gangrel who have fortitude and shapeshifting. I mean, can we at least get an agreeance of no god-moding by people who are overly attached to their fictional characters? Just a thought. In a game like this, characters would definitely drop like flies if realism came into play.

We can use some sort of dice system, if you don't want that to happen.
