Writer of the Month #2 Flash Fiction Voting

Theme: Despair
Explained: The main focus of the story is despair, in any fashion.

Components:
  • The despair is caused by an event that the despairing character had no control over.
  • The despair is caused by first world problems (remote is on the other side of the room, no milk for your cereal, etc).
  • A character inflicts or causes despair rather than feeling it personally.
  • The story reaches some sort of happy or positive conclusion for the protagonist.
  • The story is not set in the modern day.

  • Rules/Instructions for Voting:
  • Follow the links provided to read each entry.
  • Read ALL entries before voting.

As a reminder, entrants are not only permitted but encouraged to vote on an entry, so long as you don't vote for your own.

If you're concerned about voting for your competition, as I understand some are, then feel free to vote in the category that you didn't enter. And if you're willing, voting in both categories is more than alright with us! The more votes we get, the better the contest turns out! So feel free to tell your friends about the contest, too - just don't give yourself away! ^^

So... I'm assuming that the "despair" bit in the first entry is from having to use IE?

Bumping this to the top. I may do reviews again this month, but no promises because my schedule may get very busy in the near future.

Both of these had quite the amusing ideas going. I quite frankly burst out laughing on both of these. Then I started to wonder if the "Universal Chain" one was supposed to be funny or depressing. The mix made me confused, and when it continued on it seemed not to end anywhere notable. "World Wide Web Woes" was however pulled off like a perfect joke, with a well placed line that made it clear what emotion was expected from the reader and in the end made me appreciate it the most.

My vote goes to World Wide Web Woes.

my vote goes to world wide web

i enjoyed them both but world wide web is more relateable, and it made more sense.
universal chain was a little hard to follow, though i suppose it could just be too deep for me.

either way both were interesting and i enjoyed them.

My vote goes to W4, the first entry. What despair must being forced to use IE bring! I can't even imagine how horrible that must be D:

...No, seriously though, I vote for W4.

I have to jump on the bandwagon an vote World Wide Web Woes. Both entries are good, but the style and humor of Web Woes is more appealing than what I found in Universal Chain which, while appealing to me in tone, was confusing and slightly rambling.

    Congratulations MissAddler!

A nearly unanimously-voted win in WOTM is rare. But when it happens, it’s something to celebrate! In this case, MissAddler’s World Wide Web Woes won with the story of what happens whenever we use the world’s worst web browser from the makers of Windows. The entry may have been short, but made the voters laugh in its simplicity. So congrats to MissAddler on her WOTM win!

I now encourage all writers who participated this month to use the next couple days to reveal themselves and respond to comments/critique given.

Note: There will be no WOTM for the month of May. Instead, WOTM #3 will be posted at the beginning of June.

Hopefully though, we'll be able to make plenty of improvements to the contest during the downtime!

Also, feel free to discuss votes and reviews in this thread for as long as you like. (Speaking of which, I apologize for having forgotten to post the winner announcements with the WOTM account. Some of you probably didn't even realize winners had been announced. ^^")

    Hey!

Sorry; I have been ridiculously busy with exams (EXAMS, EXAMS, EXAMS, ARGHH) but let me start by saying thank you to each and everyone of you! I am overjoyed that so many of you get my quirky sense of humour! I read each vote for me with a huge grin on my face - and, yes, that grin was bigger than Ron Weasley's!

And a round of applause for my competition; Universal chain! Some well-written descriptions with an incredible range of vocabulary there!

    Thanks again!

    MissAddler ;)
