Name: Bushi
Age: 406 (Appears much younger than that, looking in the twenties.)
Gender: Male
Race: Bushi’s appearance may be a human one; however, he is actually the Kami of a legendary sword made sentient. The Kami were the spirit gods of Japan, with the ancient Japanese believing that every object had a Kami, or spirit, to appease: in the hopes of gaining fortune and currying favour. Bushi’s sentience was the result of demonic machinations. The result of a demon contract that left Bushi alive, but without his ‘true’ self, namely the sword he was Kami of.
Being a weapon-kami gives Bushi a number of talents. Perhaps the most useful is his inability to die. For so long as one half of the Kami lives, so too shall the other. Without destroying the original sword Bushi was born of, the man cannot die. That isn’t to say he can’t be incapacitated though: a ‘lethal’ blow would have Bushi comatose until his body repairs, re-forges or regenerates itself. He is also made flesh, meaning that he can have bones broken and skin sliced: just like a normal person. Should the sword ever play a part in his life again, and should someone hold the sword’s scabbard in Bushi’s presence: they will gain a control over than man that is like master and slave. Unlike a normal person, Bushi is unaffected by needs of the stomach. He doesn’t need to eat or drink, however he does partake of meals when he can: enjoying the social aspect and the taste.
Job/Skills: Having lived a number of years, Bushi has gained a number of minor talents: cooking, blacksmithing and basic surgery being amongst those small talents. None though, compare to his modus operandi: Metal-mancy. This power allows him to re-form metal at will: changing a rod of iron into a sword at a single touch, or willing a shard of copper into a bullet. The skill is incredibly useful, and, when used imaginatively, incredibly powerful. The skill is not without limitations though; the most obvious being the requirement for a source of actual metal as a catalyst for his powers. Bushi needs an equal amount of metal to make an equally weighted sword. If he tried to make a dagger into a sword, the sword would be weak and flimsy and useless in a fight. Conversely, if he made a sword into a dagger, the dagger would be stronger and sturdier.
Items: None yet. It should be noted that Bushi’s powers directly correlate with whatever weapon he is wielding. A sword in the hand makes him a balanced, keen warrior: whereas an axe will make his a physical juggernaut with lesser speed and finesse. Not only is the type of weapon important, but as is the quality. A no-name dime-a-dozen dagger means his powers are not much more than a trained human. When wielding a sword with a heritage and a name, Bushi’s powers are amplified immensely.
Personality: Bushi is a man bound by honour and held up in the lofty code of bushido that is, nowadays, so outdated. For his convictions, Bushi would risk his life gladly (Although Pseudo-immortality helps, on that front.) If an honest man is what you seek, you will find none more honest, stout hearted or fair than Bushi. Despite this sense of duty-bound honour, Bushi holds professionalism towards any Peacekeeper mission. The council are his Daimyo, and he would not fail any of them: whatever disgrace people might levy against him.
Outside of talk of honour, Bushi is a very brash individual. Always one to speak his mind, loudly more often than not, and quick to offer words of advice and wisdom, Bushi can have an almost intimidating air about him. He holds an intensity and magnitude that often scares off lesser men. Such as his dedication to wearing the patch over his perfectly working left-eye.
Despite his air of intimidating intensity, Bushi is a genuine, affectionate and charismatic figure: especially if he learns your first name. The kami is eager to share stories with the people he likes, just as eagerly as he is to share drink, something he always seems to have on his persons, even when the situation demands otherwise.
Overall, Bushi is a larger-than-life individual who has lived for a long time. His natural charisma, intensity and charm are matched only by his wit, his blunt-ness, and his forgetfulness for people, as well as his fondness of reverie. Bushi is unflinchingly driven towards his goals, none more-so than his quest to recover the blade he was birthed from.
Years in the Peacekeepers: Bushi has been a part of the peacekeepers for six months now. Prior to being part of the peacekeepers, Bushi served as a Ronin-for-hire. He has constantly pursued the sword he was born from, and offers from the elders of the Peacekeepers were enough to sway him.
Why you joined: Bushi quests of self-recovery, as opposed to self-discovery. His sword is the thing that makes him both powerful and vulnerable in equal measures: yet it is not the reason he hunts the blade so readily. Bushi seeks the sword because he, in a way, is the sword. Every killing stroke is a kill he made: every innocent slain or villain vanquished is a notch against his own spirit. He doesn’t have a way to atone for the sins committed by the sword, or to benefit from the good deeds wrought in its use, but he is honour-bound above all else to recover it, lest it: and he, be used by someone with wicked intent.
Bushi first came to the attention of the peacekeepers on a mission. Sadly, at the time, he was playing for the wrong side. A group of goblin drug-runners had hired Bushi as extra muscle, and he performed the task admirably. So admirably in fact, that he managed to knock out several peace keepers on his own with only a lump of iron. It was only when the drug-runners sought to use a hostage that Bushi’s personality overtook his duty. He delivered a righteous thrashing to the goblins and saved the hostage: whilst simultaneously gathering the attention of the peacekeepers. Ever since, Bushi has torn a rather successful path through the Peacekeeper’s ranks: racking up success after success on increasingly important missions until he was offered a job with the ‘A-team’ as it were.
Personal Arc: Bushi’s sword is the crux of any personal arc. The sword holds such a mystical power over the man that its discovery would drive him from near enough any tasks to achieve his four century ambition for the reuniting of spirit and sword. The day he is reunited with his blade is the day he removes his eyepatch: for that is the day he will become whole again.
