GEARs is now open for new players!

GEARs is the story of the Arvaran people.
A human-like race of many species of Anthropomorphic animals, they exist on the planet Arvara, a world with a hi-tech, scientific and rational culture.
Their history as recorded only stretches back the last two hundred and fifty years, when they almost gained an almost overnight awareness of their history, but they were aware their culture and society was fully formed around them, complete with machinery and the apparatus of government, and even social support.
This lead to further questions and chaos, as the questions around their own origins lead to the formation of various different groups overnight, as new ideas took root about how their society should be lead and governed, as well as many varying ideas of their species' origins came to the fore.

These varying ideas and concepts lead to the formation of nations and power blocs, with the two largest - The Oppressive Varellis Empire in the North, and the Isolationist high-technology Southern Alliance. Sandwiched in between are the independent nations, trying to carve out their own existence from the world around them, and to survive as the world around them teeters ever closer to the brink of warfare.

Amidst these political and social questions stand the technological warriors of the Arvaran militaries, and in particular of the Landren Defence Force, the largest of the Independent Nations.
Strapped into their hi-tech bipedal combat machines, known as GEARs, they are the front-line of defence and discovery, and will be at the heart of the oncoming storm, when it inevitably breaks over the surface of Arvara, and sweeps everything along in it's path.
It will be the GEAR pilots of the Roughriders, the 101st Tactical GEAR Unit of the LDF Landcruiser Parvan's Claw who will have a hand in deciding the ultimate fate of the Arvaran people, and instrumental in discovering their origins and the fate of their creators.
Their story will become an epic, and they will be regarded as heroes of their people - who stood against amazing odds, and terrible enemies, and rose from near obscurity.

You are the 101st, and this is your story...

Yeah, it's a pretty detailed background, but from what my returning players tell me, it's good stuff.

Yeah, mine will be a while too. But there's no rush - we won't be starting until we have a good few characters up, and that will likely take a while.

Character Sheet

Character Name: Raisa Yurievna Biryukova (first name, patronymic name and surname, respectively)

Age: 22

Species: Corsac Fox

Appearance: Raisa is rather short, like most others of her kind. However, there are some key differences between her and others of her kind. While others might have a kinder expression, Raisa's facial expression can be quite intimidating, with a sharp glare and a straight face, despite not especially wishing to scare those around her. She keeps a straight posture at all times, however in regards to womanly figure, she is somewhat lacking, to her chagrin. She wears a pair of thin rimmed glasses.

Personality: Despite appearances, Raisa is kind of heart and tries to be at least somewhat friendly with those around her. She can be slightly hesitant in regards to social interactions at times though.
Raisa has a positive view on life, though she sometimes gets worried when it comes to thinking about the "big picture", wondering if all that she does is for naught or if it serves a purpose. She has a somewhat neutral perspective on war, deeming it a natural state of living beings though she certainly doesn't support it, condemning it for the huge losses of life and material it brings. Even with this unsure opinion on the subject, she feels that in a morbid sort of way that she is 'at home' on the battlefield, but she certainly doesn't share this opinion with others.
Other than these personal opinions, she is rather intelligent, but she tends not to rub it in other's faces.

Personal History: Raisa Yurievna Biryukova was born in a small independent state, called Iyuli, that made most of their money off of state owned weapons designs bureaus. Her own father, Yuri Yakovich Biryukova was a head designer in one of the premier bureaus in the state, the Sukhoyan-Ilyushevich Design Bureau, primarily responsible for GEAR related developments. Spending much of his time away from home either working on a new design or demonstrating one of his designs at shows and expos throughout the world, Raisa thus spent most of her time taking care of her mother, her two younger sisters and her older brother who was born a cripple.
For most of her childhood, Raisa had to play a juggling act of taking care of her family and attending school, leaving her little free time to make friends or attend extracurricular activities. Instead, she occupied her free moments by reading through her father's personal library, filled with books not only on GEAR engineering, design and use but also on famous battles, told through eye-witness accounts and interviews with veterans. It was in this way that Raisa built an interest in soldiery and began aspiring to becoming a GEAR pilot after an acquaintance's uncle, a military recruiter, convinced her that the pay earned would be enough to keep her family afloat for many years.
At the age of sixteen, she entered her country's military academy where she became adept in many different facets of warfighting, such as the basics of shooting, CQC, survival but also of advanced GEAR piloting.
Shortly after graduation, she served a short five year service with the Iyuli military, during which she participated in prestigious activities such as parades, group training and patrols. Searching for a more exciting fate, she requested a transfer to Landren to join as a foreign volunteer. After numerous tests, which she passed with flying colors, she was assigned to the 101st Tactical GEAR Unit of the LDF Landcruiser Parvan's Claw, "Roughriders".

Personal Weapons and Equipment:
-Iyuli GEAR Pilot Gear, with helmet, survival tools and sidearm.
-Locket with photos of family.
-Laminated photocopy of her father's company ID card, used as a sort of ornament in the cockpit of her GEAR.

Personal Theme: Putting this as a direct link in case the QQCode Youtube function doesn't work.

Favorite color: Blue

Mecha Sheet
Main GEAR:

Gear Name & Serial Number: Sukhoyan-Ilyushevich SuI-27 Flanker

Appearance:

Role: Close Quarters Enemy Engagement & Combat Superiority (CQEE&CS), Anti GEAR combat.

Normal Loadout:

1x Avto-15 fifteen millimeter anti-infantry machine gun (built in, on right wrist next to missile pod). Miniaturized version of the Avto-30 full sized thirty millimeter autocannon, available as a hand-held weapon for the Flanker and Fulcrum.
2x Wrist missile pods, non-removable. Capable of using different kinds of missiles (HEAT, anti infantry, anti air...). Despite being non-removable, the missile firing system can be switched out to instead be used as an extending and retracting wrist blade for close quarters combat, though only on the left wrist due to the presence of the machine gun.
2x Mounting points for various weapon types on the shoulders (extra rocket pods, cannons, extra anti-infantry machine guns)
The hands of the Flanker, like most other GEARs, can use GEAR sized personal weapons (assault rifles, combat rifles, large scale shotguns...) and melee equipment.

Other Systems & Equipment:
-Iyuli designed combat computer, including radar, various sensors and a simplified ECM and anti-ECM suite.
-Standard comms systems.
-Mounting points on the legs for tools and carrying items (infantry supplies, extra ammunition...)
-Anti-missile flares.
-Parachute mounting points for air drops.

Other notes: Info such as the background of the GEARs design and purpose, or history of the design in LDF service, as well as any personal info about the GEAR.
The SuI-27 Flanker is the newest GEAR built by the Sukhoyan-Ilyushevich Design Bureau and is currently being proposed to militaries such as the LDF and a few have been bought by the Iyuli Ground Defense Force. Despite being specialized in anti-GEAR combat, it is also effective in many roles, though it is more effective in the aforementioned role.
Raisa's Flanker is the only GEAR of its type currently in LDF service, serving as her own machine while she is working as a foreign volunteer for the LDF. Aside from serving as her own combat machine, it is also used as an indirect advertisement from Sukhoyan-Ilyushevich to the LDF. Raisa calls her own Flanker "Sanya" after her older brother.

Spare GEAR:

Gear Name & Serial Number: SuI-29 Fulcrum

Appearance:

Role: Multi-role.

The hands of the Fulcrum, like most other GEARs, can use GEAR sized personal weapons (assault rifles, combat rifles, large scale shotguns...) and melee equipment, though it is limited to lighter weapons than the Flanker.

Other notes: For the last ten years, the SuI-29 Fulcrum has been a main-stay of the Iyuli Ground Defense Force, despite its light weight. Easy to produce and highly reliable, it is planned to remain in service long after the introduction of its larger brother, the SuI-27 Flanker.
Only a few were bought by the LDF, and this one serves as Raisa's replacement GEAR in case of emergency. Despite its size and age compared to the Flanker, it is a superior GEAR outside of anti-GEAR combat, capable of better performing reconnaissance and anti-installation interdiction. Raisa used this Fulcrum for a long time before switching to the Flanker and has something of an attachment to the machine, naming it after her youngest sister, Rozaliya.

Character Name: Kradis Topha
Age: 29
Species: Jackal
Appearance: .

Personality: Kradis is a loner by nature, who doesn't enjoy the company of others for too long, acting cold and annoyed towards those who approach him in social circumstances. He keeps a lot of personal details to himself, and his secretive manner of conducting himself has lead to rumors that he is, in fact, an Empire spy. However, the only passion that dwells within him is his absolute hate of The Empire, and to see the Varellis Family burn for what they did to Kradis and everyone he has ever loved. This is what makes him loyal to his new Landren comrades, and you can always count on Kradis in a fight, even if he hates your guts. He rarely smiles, and is a known addict to a popular illicit substance known as Overdrive (Similar effects to cocaine, but with a powerful hypersensitive effect, resulting in twitchy but precise, quick movements). He is very spiritually inclined, though does not believe in an afterlife, rather a more harmony with nature and cycle of life, death and rebirth concept.

Personal History: From a young age, Kradis was alone. He was born in the slums of Verellis City, and his parents were killed when he was 4, during a raid on a known terrorist hideout, where a stray mortar shell hit their home. As such, he was stuck in the foster system for many years, moving from house to house and having many different caretakers. When he was 16, he signed up for the Empire's Military Academy, being gifted in mathematics and engineering. It was at this time that he met his only partner, Montakus Frigten, and they were in a relationship for six years.

With the training in the Honors program came standard GEARs operation, and Kradis excelled at these courses. Soon, he received advanced training in Specialized GEAR training, and joined the Imperial Army assisting with raids on rebel encampments. With each passing day, Kradis became more and more uneasy with what he was doing, as they attacked families, executing men, women and children to make examples for others. After counselling with Montakus, he decided to resign, and together they joined a resistance cell, that was smuggling convicted innocents and displaced refugees into the Independent Nations. It was extremely dangerous, and they were nearly caught many times, but it was rewarding work.

Then, came the great betrayal: One of the most trusted members of the resistance cell was in fact an Imperial spy. The hide out was raided, and Montakus lost his life during the fighting, buying time for the others to escape. The rag tag group crossed the border, and Kradis parted ways with them, wandering alone in the deserts, for weeks, grief stricken and fury burning in his heart. So Kradis defected, and joined the LDF as a GEARS Pilot, specializing in long range bombardment and artillery fire. He hopes to exact revenge on the spy one day, and bring The Empire to it's knees, even if it kills him. It took many months of assessment to identify if he was a spy, but after much deliberation, he was given the all clear and assigned to the 101st, where he currently resides on base.

Personal Weapons and Equipment:
-Compact 9mm Caseless SMG, with 2x magnification
-Combat utility knife
-Binoculars with 10x magnification (useful for identifying enemy positions)
-2 Plastic Explosives charges, for demolition jobs on foot.
-Three days of rations
-Small, namd sized container with Overdrive Tabs inside
-Always has a packet of cigarettes
-Pendant, with a photo of Kradis and Montakus, worn around his neck at all times
Personal Theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nTwBF7dM7g
Favourite Colour: Purple

Mecha Sheet
Gear Name & Serial Number: Truiss Heavy Industries, M-Series, I.D. 5873-990 (Nickname: 'Gammorah')
Appearance
Role: Long Range Artillery Bombardment
Normal Loadout:
-70mm Shoulder Mounted Cluster Rocket Pod (10 Unguided Rockets, 4 HE Bomblets per Rocket)
-40mm Shoulder Mounted Mortar Tube (Drum fed, 16 Air-Burst Frag. Mortars)
-22mm Built in Semi Automatic Heavy Carbine (4 Magazines).
-7.72mm Anti Infantry Auto cannon
-Retractable Vibro-Bayonet
Other Systems & Equipment:
-Atmospheric and Weather Sensors Suite (AWSS): For gauging wind speed and other environmental factors that could impact on artillery accuracy.
-Magnetic Wave Mapper (MWM): Can use magnetic resonance waves and receiving sensors to identify hidden and entrenched vehicles and GEARS, range 2 km clear sight, 400 m through dense foliage and structures.
-Thermal Decoy Chaff (5 pods, 10 flares per salvo)
-Persistent Laser Guide Map Overlay (PLG-MO): A complex software program that allows for the updating of the tactical map with specific target locations from laser guided fire requests, received from infantry laser guides to GEAR and other vehicle laser guide systems.
Other notes: An earlier generation GEAR, it was built to carry heavier loads than standard GEARS, as well as to have the capability to operate under extreme conditions reliably. Truiss Heavy Industries revealed their entry into the market, the M-Series, which was an instant hit with many governments and corporations. Despite being expensive and slow moving, the M-Series is unparalleled with it's high load capacity and survivability, without sacrificing it's range of view or too much mobility. Kradis' particular unit Gammorah takes advantage of this feature with large artillery weapons (large for a GEAR, anyway) to provide fire support from afar against entrenched infantry and GEARS in urban environments (Dangerous combat zones for GEARs), as well as forested and open areas, though with less effectiveness. Unfortunately, Gammorah has little in the way of close range offensive power, and lacks the mobility to effectively fight in close quarters/melee range. When in artillery mode, Gammorah will fold out stabilizers from the back of it's legs to help reduce the massive recoil of it's armaments, rendering it immobile until deactivated.

I notice that everyone has completely missed out the free anti-infantry machine-guns from their loadouts, as well as the free melee weapon, which amuses me greatly.
Secondly, only Kyelin's character is approved. The other two are missing a piece of information, so I can't approve them.

Mister Roman07 - are you sure you want to play? Because every other time you have joined in on GEARs, you've dropped out about two posts in after saying you can't take your character seriously, or just dropped out without a word. If you're sure that's not going to happen this time, then welcome. But I'd rather not get into things, and then you change your mind or drop out once we've got started.

No problem at all, that would fit in very well. Although there is currently no optical stealth cloaking technology (or if there is, it's something the South would have and no-one else), but you can still create a very stealthy machine, all the same.
