There is a plot planned... *fades into the mist waving hands mysteriously*

I am genuinely writing up the post, honest! I am also looking at the very church this is set in as I type. If i don't get the post done this breaktime I will take a tour around in the church for accuracy then post from the town centre. I am very disappointed in myself for being one of slowest posters in my own setting... Usually i am much faster than this to reply. Not gunna make any excuses.

Haha well I don't mind - always watching and waiting (like a pervy ninja)!

Just on lunch at work myself - I work in matrix house, the big greenhouse looking building just on basing view near the roundabout in the centre of town :p

It amuses me we were within like 200meters of one another then.

Posted! How fast do you guys wanna move? I figure the journey and the church might be a good time for a little character interaction so I haven't detailed the journey yet or the arrival. If prefered i can do that though.

I think I might just be having a dumb moment, but can I get clarification on something?

At first you said our objective was five miles southwest, but then you said the Solar Tower we needed to get a guy inside of, was five miles north. So, what is where, and which way we gonna go? XD

there last line of defense is a rusty padlock?

Personality: Mike is a light-hearted, sarcastic, but loyal individual who places friends before himself. he has walked into burning buildings without regret to save friends and complete strangers. he moans about it time to time, but he'd do it again.

Biography: born in a long line of firefighters, paramedics, and cops, the Nawlin line had served in nearly every facet of emergency response and mike was groomed accordingly. between his dads push to be a paramedic, and his moms to become an officer, mike would often look up to his older brother David. having dealt with the same issues growing up, David would find some way to extricate mike from the claustrophobic argument, and looked out for him. to mike, David was his idol, his stories and videos from volunteering for the fire department would leave him awestruck. How could someone stand in front of something that devours everything it touches without exception. wood to cinders, bone to ash, metal warping and glass melting. to mike it was unfathomable. A man with a gun could be reasoned with or shot, a crazed patient could be sedated or restrained, but fire... Fire could only be doused with water, and choked by foam while brave, possibly insane individuals armed with air tanks and nomex lined suits attempted to wade into the belly of the beast to rescue those most would already deem lost. The only answer David gave mike why they did what they did, confused mike for a long time. "Because no one else will"
Mike learned the what he meant when he volunteered for Engine company 13, commonly called "lucky company" in an effort to ward off bad luck, but mostly as a joke. it had been a lazy winter day and most of the time was spent joking around while mike made dinner for the group. the short peace was ruined by a blaring klaxon and the collective shouts of the crew. this is what they trained for, the minuets of chaos interspaced with hours of boredom. mike ran to the bay and threw on his turnouts and yanked on his boots before grabbing a helmet and climbing into the cab. the race to the fire didn't seem fast, but the several ton water-tender stampeded down the streets bellowing its challenge to the other vehicles as the crew joked weakly to hide their anxiety. the call was for a residential fire, standard procedure.
The plan was simple, mike and David on medical duty while the others dealt with the fire. that changed when they turned the corner to see a crowd on frantic neighbors. the half-hearted jokes came to a dead stop as the trucks doors opened and the crew stepped out before the horrid spectacle. a two story building was rapidly being devoured as the family huddled in a window, screaming for help. mike sidestepped awkwardly as 2 men with the main hose started a fog and advanced on the flames. the chief hollered for the ladder to get in position and for a moment mike thought it might work, until the ladders hydraulics failed.
the flames were too hot for the backup fiberglass, the only other way would be to risk the house. the firefighter mantra found its way to his mouth. "risk little to save little, risk allot to save allot." he muttered, dropping the med kit and stepping forward, he finally understood what David said. he turned to yell for David to follow and caught a sucker punch the sent him reeling, his helmet flying, and his head giving a steel mailbox a fond hello. blearily he watched as his brother shouted an apology and dove into the flames. a heart stopping couple of minutes later the family turned away from the window and sobbed happily David had made it. mike dizzily rose and stumbled forward, one of the crew grabbed his shoulder and hauled him back, shouting at him to fall back. that was when he finally heard the groaning from the house, his chest grew cold.
"David, Get out of there!" the chief yelled into the radio. mike struggled against the hands the wrapped around his chest. "DAVID!" he yelled, seeing the bobbing flashlight and the glare of a face mask. he was almost there, just a few more seconds. then with a groan and a deafening crack, the entire front of the house caved, showing everyone with sparks and cinders. stunned the crew leapt to action. the two on the hose began flooding the rubble as mike grabbed a halligan throwing himself into the pile, digging and shifting for all he was worth. it wasn't enough.
from that day forward, mike chose his field. he dove into his studies, earning a job as a fire side paramedic. in his 20th year he was responding to another house fire, this was reported as arson. wary, but undaunted, the crew rolled onto the scene, and set up. mike grabbed his entry gear as the crew started on the flames. once the fire had died down enough he ducked into the pyre. immediately something wasn't right. the door was heavy steel, the interior was bland, and blood streaked into the back of the house. mike let out a grunt as his foot slid from under him, and he fell to his side. the fire glinted from several spent shell casings.
"Chief, call the PD, scene is unsafe." mike said into his radio as he crept deeper into the house. a few moments later, mike grew concerned. his crew hadn't answered and he couldn't hear the water, fear and logic told him to bail and regroup. ignoring that he continued on, finally coming across the two forms, one clearly dead from numerous shots, the other pointed a gun in mikes face. the survivor was bleeding badly, mike would have to work quick and dirty to get them out. "whoa, relax, I'm here to get you out" mike said dropping his fire ax. "we don't really have time for a standoff."
the man grunted and dropped the gun, "you poor bastard" he murmured before passing out. "
"I got a survivor, not sure what happened." mike said into the radio. "some kind of fight, I'm heading out" mike grunted as he hauled the man up into a shoulder carry and stopped a moment to pick up the file he had been guarding. he didn't know what it was, but if the guy was going to sit in a burning building with it, it had some importance. upon extraction from the house he found the area cordoned off, and several helicopters whirling overhead. "Chief, give me a hand here!" he yelled only to be grabbed by 2 swat agents, another group taking the injured man, and a last picking up the scorched file. mike struggled against their grip as the man with the file looked it over, and slid it into his coat.
"Mr. Nawlin, your coming with us." he said, slate eyes unyielding. it wasn't a request. three days of questioning later mike was tired, angry, but undefeated. they kept asking his name, why he was there, what he knew about the man he rescued. he told them the same thing. mike Nawlin, he was a fireman, and that he was there. that was it. in the end they slapped a heavy manila file on the table, pictures of him slid all over the table. pictures of him at the gun range, pictures of him helping backboard a patient, pictures of him picking a lock to an abandoned warehouse. pictures of him with his brother.
"take a look, we've been watching you for some time. you're top of your class, high PT score, loyal, bend the rules time to time, but generally on the level. but." the lady said behind the lamp glare paused and set the singed file he saved on the table. "you've seen this, maybe the documents, maybe not. we can't take any chances." she said. "so ill make you a deal. work for us 2 months a year, and keep your mouth shut, and you can go about your normal life."
"and if I don't?" mike asked.
"the voice continued. "it won't come to that, you'll see we want the same thing, you will have some time to decide."
2 days later mike was sworn into the program and began his training as a sleeper.

I hate to be "that guy" but I could perhaps ask or persuade you not to use the Medical Spec? As we already have one.

Just noticed u had medical written down as a combat specialisation too. O.O my bad. as that was an element of his civilian job that would be part of his civilian specialisation freeing you up to take more combat focussed combat specialisations.

Not gunna press you to change the medical specialisation as I understand with 8 other characters it is hard to find an unused specialisation (and I did approve the character). Traditionally two medics is good practice anyway as if there is only one medic and he/she is injured then the team is screwed. Up to u. Feel free to post IC regardless as hopefully it shouldn't be needed straight away anyhow. If u do decide to change specialisation and are having a hard time figuring it out I am sure everyone here would be happy to provide ideas and act as a sounding board.

Both of you have my apologies.

Well as for my reason as to making it both a civi spec, and a Combat Spec, is because there is literally a field difference between Civi Medical training, and Combat Medical Training. Someone who hasn't had specific Combat Medical training isn't actually qualified or certified to work as combat medical, or even preform medical procedures on the move or in the field. Plus, the emphasis on being a medic is a key trait to several situation undisclosed within his biography.

No, I know what you meant with your phrasing man. I am just explaining, because of where people tend to make the misconception that Civilian Medical Units are qualified for Combat Medical tasks. That is all I was doing.

Edit: Well, sorry for causing a problem by saying anything about it.

Combat medicine tends to be more quick and (no offence) dirty. you don't have time to play around with layer after layer of gauze on continuous bleeding, you throw a tourniquet 2 inches above the wound and tie it off. you don't have the luxury of a 30 min hospital ride, your nearest mash unit might be 3 hours or more away. I understand that well enough, seeing some of the equipment and shortcuts my dad had the ability to use in the army, instead of the civilian gear and regulations was eye opening. ill change it around.

That is my point, there is a large gap in the training, and that is why I had my character take both spec's, and both forms of extensive training in his Bio. Accumulating those years of training is a key to him as a character altogether, not just a spec he uses.

Edit: You know what, I am sorry. I can see my words seem to be perceived in an ill-manner, when they aren't meant that way. You do whatever you want with your specs. I need to just go for right now.. I have some things to tend too, my apologies.

naw, its fine, its hard to write inflection on words, so I try to take everything as neutrally as possible. I didn't mean any anger, nor read it as such. I was just saying i know where you are comeing from.

aside from that, do you know how frustrateing it is that quick clot products aren't certified for field use for EMTs in the northwest? GAH!

Yeah, it is a shame really. I find it hard to actually understand why they don't allow it. It would make things like Arterial Shunts work much more effectively in those situations.

Edit: I still have to go though, I honestly have some things to attend to at the moment. Also, if you want, just like everyone else. If you have Steam, add Pandaman9571(ignore the name being all weird. XD) If you want, and maybe we can chill on a game or something, maybe get to know each other. (Like I said, it is if you WANT to, not an obligation. I am just trying to make some new friends. )

my house has sat net right now, ill get back to you on that when I get home.

Incase anyone missed it when going through the OP here is a description of a solar tower along with a video concept (in link) as to what one would look like.

Solar towers
Solar towers are a form of clean, renewable energy comprised of a chimney, turbines and large greenhouse structures of which the first was constructed in 2015. The greenhouse at the bottom cumulates heat and humidity which causes the warm air to rise up the chimney which, in turn, turns the turbines and thus generates electrical power. Due to the lush, tropical nature of the land inside the greenhouses agricultural companies encouraged the construction of and even started building their own solar towers seeking to gain the benefits of a double income. By 2030 these structures dominate whole countrysides in some countries.

Haha, first I forgot to put my normal OOC post whenever I create a slight confrontation. This is my character's actions and I do not in anyway (mostly, nothing wrong in your case) have any problem with your character or you personally.

Second, Oh I feel like there may be a slight bit of animosity between these two. If she can read people well, which she should be able to, then she may pick up on these things. Also, I feel gestures are more than appropriate :)

Edit: and none of these things were spoken, just a reminder. I don't think you missed that but I will cover all my bases.

XD It's cool. I love how there's animosity being sparked. I'll get a reply up later. Just waiting on others to have their turn before me. She can actually read people very well, and if she does pick up on that notion of John thinking she 's a hoodlum, I'm pretty sure sparks are gonna fly...in the other direction lol. XD

Hahaha! I expect nothing less, I'm sure there may be a fight or two at some point, nothing that would jeopardize the mission of course, but we'll see how things play out.
