History – Edmond Daring was born into a modest cottage on the borders of modern day Renalta and had very little outside contact with the world during his childhood. His parents were both sell swords and often tried to convert their sickly and weak child to follow their path as well. Edmond wasn’t physically or mentally built for the militant lifestyle however and all of their attempts ended in failure. Whether if it was out of shame or misfortune, one day Edmond’s parents went out hunting for meat and never returned.
Thus Edmond was blindly thrown into the world like an innocent lamb to slaughter. He had never had to provide for himself before and had no idea how he was supposed to support himself. Though he was already fourteen when this happened, he was a very sheltered child and was not ready for the real world. Fortunately, by an extraordinary stroke of luck, he managed to catch favor of a local leader of vagabonds roaming the borders after saving one of their members from a bloody death by a pack of wolves with a well timed spell. Edmond was out in the woods gathering berries when he had caught sight of one of their members getting chased by the wolves. He knew very little holy magic at the time but the quick spell was all that was needed in order to turn the tables against the savage beasts. After he saved the member, the vagabonds took Edmond in and helped to teach him a less than conventional way to survive in the world. Taking up robbing, kidnapping, bribing, and murdering as a lifestyle, Edmond did what he had to do in order to survive with the crew until they were eventually apprehended by the local law authorities.
He was, by then, a young man of barely twenty years, doomed to rot in the miserable prison for life. The prison was ridden with all types of deplorable characters such as assassins, murderers, and even vampires, but Edmond eventually formed a friendship with a monk named Richelieu. Richelieu converted Edmond into his faith and taught him to stay his hand from blood. He studied Holy Magic extensively with the monk, though the monk insisted on focusing purely on defensive magic instead of offensive.
Richelieu never revealed what he had done to deserve his place in the prison and acted as a fatherly figure to Edmond.
Edmond learned philosophy, social etiquette, poetry, and most importantly advanced forms of defensive Holy Magic. Edmond learned from the monk how to cast simple defensive spells quickly and effectively and the fundamentals of all defensive holy magic. After four years of training with the monk, Edmond learned how to cast spells without a word leaving his lips or moving his hand. The monk called Edmond his greatest prodigy though he always chided Edmond when he felt that he was getting cocky. Edmond not only became a master of defensive holy magic in the prison, he also grew exponentially as a person. He had all of the mannerisms and etiquette of the most refined gentlemen in the lands, along with volumes worth of knowledge in Holy Magic.
Despite his friendship with the monk, Edmond wished to see the outside world once again. His wishes were answered on his twenty fourth birthday, by once again, another incredible stroke of luck. Deep into the night while Edmond was studying his religious texts by candlelight, he found himself leaning against a certain wall of his cell. What he did not most certainly expect was the wall to crumble underneath his weight and send him spiraling into an unused and forgotten tunnel underneath the prison. Edmond used the tunnel and the road it eventually exited into in order to flee to the growing capital of the newly revived kingdom of ‘Renalta’.
Edmond’s well of luck wasn’t dried out yet however. Along the way to the city, he discovered a destroyed carriage along the road he was walking along. It had seemed that an assassination had taken place earlier in the day due to the dead noble in the carriage and his massacred guardsmen. Edmond quickly outfitted himself in the noble’s robes and even found a small coin purse in the ruins of the carriage that the assassin had most likely missed in his/her hasty retreat. Once he reached the city, he began his life anew under the identity ‘Count Richelieu’ in the honor of the monk who had taught him in prison.
He gained a reputation as a friendly member of the upper echelons of society who was willing to help escort nobles through the shadier and more dangerous parts of the lands, for a price. Though it did not happen overnight, ‘Count Richelieu’ ended up setting up a vast network of social contacts and gaining a rather steady paycheck. He had gained his initial clients through mainly bluffing them into thinking he was a noble by his fine robes and educated mannerisms, but he eventually grew into his new identity. His Holy Magic was quite useful in his escorts, saving him and his clients more than once from certain death, though he ended up learning a bit of Lightning Magic as well to gain some offensive capabilities.
Hearing of his talents and well bred reputation, a messenger of the Queen’s Blades extended an invitation to Count Richelieu to join the famous troop of men and women. Count Richelieu was originally morally conflicted however, he did not wish to walk the life of a soldier for he personally despised violence. The monk had taught him to walk a path of peace and neutrality, not one of blood and death. After thinking it out however, he decided that the Nine Hells were too large of a threat to be ignored and it was only by joining the guard that the path of least bloodshed would be acquired. He still holds certain reservations against killing and only uses partakes in it as a last resort.
Motivation - Richelieu does not do it for the money, nor the fame. He sees the Queen’s Blades as the path of least bloodshed and that is the reason he joined.

The Best Offense – Is a good defense. Richelieu excels mainly in defensive holy magic, his simple yet sturdy spells shield him from all but the heaviest blows. Thus he hardly ever dons armor and relies purely on defensive spells to keep him from harm. He can even cast simpler defensive spells without the usual incantation or a single movement of his hand, allowing him to cast spells with lightning speed. For more complex and powerful spells however, he does have to initiate some kind of movement or words though he can cast all defensive holy spells much faster than the average mage.
Personal SectionRomance: I’m fine with romance as long as it occurs naturally.
Play style: I prefer missions that require thought to the stereotypical hack and slash genre. I also prefer choices to linear progression.
Does the Kouri Plushie exist? I offer no answers, only more questions.
Signature: I, Athos, agree to the terms that the GM has set aside and find them fair.
Thanks~
